Perfect neighborhood spot! Read the other reviews and I think the one and two star people are uptight jerks that aren't happy in life and like making people miserable. Probably beat their spouses.

The service was fast and friendly. Ambience was just what we were looking for as we needed a local go to spot for a bite to eat and a drink. Prices are under 10$ for a meal and good selection of drinks.  Bartender was attentive and super nice. Glad this spot is here and will definitely be back.

I don't give out 5 stars ever but I really loved this place.

The only reason I gave this place 2 stars is because I love the almonds they serve at the tables. This was my first visit to Buddy's and it will be my last.. They are NOT a barbecue restaurant. I think this place had the worst barbecue I have ever tasted. The meat was dry and flavorless. I was very disappointed in my meal and so was my spouse.

I would save your money and visit someplace else..

I went in tonight for a medium steak.  It came out without a drop of pink in it very well done.  I sent it back and said that I would take it to go.  I got home and they had sent me raw steak. It was colored on the outside only.  What the ---- is it that hard to cook a steak?  Then they were upset because I was upset.

I had no idea this place was even there! Nice little place. We went in on a Tuesday night for dinner just before the baseball game. Only 4 other people there. I had the St. Louis Style ribs. They were a little too med-rare and fatty for me but still very good! I loved the BBQ sauce for the ribs. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich I believe and it was yummy! They have a ton of beers on tap.Server introduced himself and even asked for our names! We will be going back to try something else!

Great service.  Jackie is the best. The brisket was a little fatty but very good. Would be nice to hear the TV when sports are on!!!!!

The food has potential, but I have been served a couple of luke-warm meals here.  The staff is really good, and thus 2 stars instead of 1, yet it usually seems they are understaffed.  I like the concept, the menu needs some work--a couple of healthy choice sandwiches would be nice, and they could definitely mix-up their soup selection.  Also, some of the sandwiches they do have are 'interesting' with some combinations of ingredients you don't normally see together--and for good reason!

All that being said, I'm not sure why, but I really think this place has potential, they just need to tweak some things...

I've  been to this place a number of times and the food is good.  The last couple of times I've gone to have lunch and watch a game as that was one of their attractions to draw customers.  (they have several large tv's  over the bar) We were the only group one time and there was only one other group there the second time.  We asked if they would be willing to turn down the very loud music so we could here the game.  We were told that the owner wants the music on and they were not allowed to turn it down.  When told by our group that in only reason we are here is to watch the game have lunch and a few beers and would go somewhere else if they weren't going to turn down the music (being the only ones in the place) we got little response from the staff.  We left stating that we would not be coming back ever.  They didn't seem to care.

I have  been to this pub several times, I love the atmosphere, it is friendly (both staff and customers), I enjoy the music and throwing peanuts on the floor, the pictures on the wall give the bar great personality as well. I think they have a great selection of beers and they have a large variety of  wine & spirits as well. I like that you can buy a bottle and have it put in a locker so when you come in you can drink from your bottle cheaper than buying shots..it is a great concept. Now I will touch on the food, thus far I have eaten the holy fungus, garlic fries, pulled pork sandwich, ribs, wings, giant hot dog, voodoo pasta, a couple salads and a clam chowder bowl, I have NO complaints about any of it,( in fact I thought it was all amazing), and I have and will continue recommending this place to my friends and family. I do NOT like BBQ sauce generally, however the  BBQ sauce here is WONDERFUL. I would definitely give this place a try if you haven't yet or are debating. :)

I have been here twice. First time was good, I don't even remember what I ate. It was good but didn't stand out. The garlic fry's were interesting, kind of like garlic powdered fry's.

My second trip I had the beef brisket sandwich. It looked like that disgusting BBQ beef (thin cut beef drowned in BBQ sauce) you can buy in the tub at the grocery store and heat in the microwave. It was tough and not enjoyable.

There are a lot of beers on tap. Andrea was very attentive and had a great attitude with the customers. I will probably go back and give it another chance as I do like the feel of the place.

The sandwiches are really yummy.  My favorite is the pulled pork sandwich - just the right amount of sauce.  My hubby usually orders the garlic fries and I get the sweet potato fries and we'll share because we can never decide which is best.  We stay away from the dinner plates which are odd - like sandwich baskets without the bread.  The service is good, but a bit forced and inconsistent.  I don't like when the waitress sits down at the table to chat (just a bit too much) and I REALLY don't like when the waitress asks my name and shakes my hand.  I doubt you're going to remember my name so what's the point (the best way to learn my name is to make me a regular).  And shaking my hand just means I have to wash them again.  The really strange thing is that the other waitress came and sat down to do introductions and handshakes, too.  So who is my server and why are you making me wash my hands yet again???   And then the waitresses seem to disappear.  (I think they do double duty with the sister restaurant next door.)  This place is a nice neighborhood joint with good food and drink, wonderful ambiance and lots of promise.  We keep going back for the food, but the service always seems to come up short.

Prices are ok. Food average. Prices were different than on the menu. Was told that you got 1/2 a chicken, was just a breast. Alright, probably not go back.

Okay, so I realize with only two reviews under my belt that it seems as though I am hard to please, but it's not the case. I had a bad experience with this restaurant and thought I should share.

I heard, as I do for most BBQ places, that this was a great place to go for good BBQ food. The problem was that I never got the chance to try it. I walked in on a Tuesday evening about 6:30pm and waited in the entry area. I was planning to get takeout. Not one person during my wait asked what I needed or if I wanted to sit, nothing, no communication whatsoever. Really?? The bartender and waitress both saw me and made eye contact a couple times, but neither acknowledged my existence, so I left.

It seems like a nice place. They were moderately busy with people at the bar and a few tables with customers, but there was no reason for them to ignore me completely.

I may give them a try again, but was pretty put-off by the whole thing.

Went for dinner one day and liked the peanuts on the floor thing.. Reminded me of a restaurant in Sacto.  I had the lasagna which was yummy. I also tried their garlic fries. WOW! Bomb! I might just go back and get those as my entree'. I'm not much of a red meat person so I didn't try the rack of ribs or anything, but they have a lot of other stuff to choose from. I would definitely go back again.

Went here for lunch not knowing what to expect and i was pleasantly suprised. I ended up ordering the BBQ chicken sandwich it was a bit dry but had it had more sauce it wouldve been really good. The whole concept of eating the raw peanuts in the shell and then tossing the shells out on the floor was a bit odd. I couldnt bring myself to throw them on the floor.. All in all the food was good.. OMG the best part was the beer battered fries....

Buddy's is in Roseburg Square, right by O'briens super market.  If you are a fan of BBQ, this is the place for you, since almost everything on the menu is BBQ (hence the name)! Almost everything is also under $10. Small bar and good selection of draft beers, with two flat screen TVs to watch sports games (and happy hour Monday-Thursday).  Our waiter was very friendly, and even asked us our names since it was our first time in. My favorite part - they bring a bucket of peanuts and welcome you to throw the shells on the floor ! Overall a great place to grab a beer or a good, cheap bite!

A decent small pub $1 off beer 1/2 off apps during happy hour. And all the peanuts you want and just throw the shells on the floor. 2 large tvs always with some sporting event on.  The wings are just horrible.  Besides the wings a good experince.

Cool atmosphere!  Nothing fancy, just a neat hang out with good food and great beer on tap.  The BBQ was not the most authentic that I have ever had, but it was some of the best BBQ that I have had in the Central Valley for sure.  The HUGE BBQ chicken salad  that my wife had was delicious, and had a pretty low price too! Plus, they were excellent with our 2 year old little girl.  We will go back for sure!

Went in for the first time on a sunday to watch some baseball, I was pleasantly surprised  by the warmness of the atmosphere. Not only was the bartender Chris awesome, but his bloody mary's are the perfect sunday morning pick-me-up. Speaking to the other patrons there everyone seems very happy to have such a great place in their neighborhood. Great beer selection, yummy BBQ, and great service what else could you ask for.

Buddy's Pub & BBQ is located next door to Appetez in Roseburg Square. The same great quality and service that Appetez provides has gone in to the Buddy's experience. Buddy's is your neighborhood Pub and BBQ, even if you don't live in the neighborhood. The food is great, the atmosphere is fun, it's a great place to bring the family or a group of friends for lunch or dinner.

I have eaten here several times and the food is good.  I love the BBQ beef brisket sandwich, although sometimes it's prepared differently and that's kind of annoying.   Cool atmosphere and decent service make this a fair place to get a bite.

We were so excited to have a pub/bar in the college area!  But then we went to Buddy's and had possibly the worst service in Modesto!  We had our beer order taken right away - great!- except that it took 15 minutes to actually get the beer.  Food orders took even longer, and then we sat with empty beer glasses for 40 minutes (no kidding) until finally the owner/chef? came by and asked if we wanted another beer.  By that time we just wanted to get the hell out of there, go get some beer at OBriens and go home. This was our final attempt to give Buddy's a chance to work out this service problem.  Delivery seems to be the only way to go for them, and even that food isn't that great but at least it comes to your door in 15 minutes and you don't have to exchange glances with your neighbors about how you are both waiting for more drinks that will never come.

After reading the positive reviews I was expecting a much better experience than what I encountered. First let me say that it was not a completely horrible experience. The atmosphere was great (nice little pub setting) I always love places you can throw peanut shells on the floor. The problem was with the food. I ordered the brisket which was very dry thankfully the BBQ sauce was good. My fries were cold but the few warm once that I had were probably the best part of the meal, the coleslaw was disappointing but not horrible. My girlfriend got the tri tip sandwich, everything on her plate was cold and the tri tip was lacking flavor. Maybe we came on a bad night but it was not busy at all. I might try this place again in the future.

Yuck. All three items my husband and I ordered were awful. Spaghetti had meatballs that were like rubber, I could not even cut them with a fork. I ordered a salad with BBQ chicken and the chicken tasted like tuna. You'd think a BBQ joint would get BBQ chicken right. Lastly, potato skins were stale and inedible. The only positives were the BBQ sauce and creamy Italian dressing. I've never tried appetez, but if they are associated with Buddy's, I'll stay away. Tummy ache followed this food :(
