I've purchased or been a part of a purchase here on three bikes, and each time I got a very fair price and lower than what was offered at larger retail or online shops.
Selection is limited but if you know what you want and it's there chances are you will ride out of there in a few minutes. -

I had a wheel go bad and he overcharged me for a really sub par wheel. I was stuck far from home and agreed. When I went to where I bought the bike to tell them what happened to the wheel they told me that shouldn't have happened and that Trek would cover it.
They did, sent two better wheels. He told me how poor quality the ones Buddys sold me were. I went back to try to get a refund, which I did only after throwing a hissy fit.
I'd watch myself there. Shady business practices. -

A great place to stop if you need air in your tires. Also, they are very reasonable on repair pricing.

I'm a big lover of biking but I hate having to haul bikes anywhere further then I can ride. Enter Buddy's in Long Beach. The guy's at Buddy's were really nice and helpful picking out a bike for you to ride, which is half the fun! All the bikes aren't the same version of each other, so you actually have a large selection of bikes to choose from. The guy hooked me up with a sweet Cannondale cruiser which was very lightweight and had a great ride. We paid for 3 hours and he let us keep it for 5! Long Beach is very fun area to bike in and it's a very bike-able(i think I just made that one up) area. If you get tired of biking the boardwalk there's plenty of places to explore and don't forget to bike down to Marvel if you feel like getting a frosty reward for all of your biking! If you're looking to bike along the boardwalk at Long Beach I highly recommend going to Buddy's.

Just went in to Buddy's for a new chain for my bike. He sold me one and asked if I knew how to make it the correct size and install. It seemed apparent that I had never done it before but I said I could probably manage to pop a pin out on my own.
My fault for thinking I was that skilled - I didn't realize there was a tool I needed to pop a pin on a chain. Fair enough, I call back buddy's and he says "of course you couldn't pop the pin, you need the tool". It struck me as odd that he didn't just tell me that in the first place, or offer to size the chain right there since I had the old chain with me (he knew this since he told me to keep it for sizing). Anyway, he said I can come back and he would pop a pin out for me, but he would have to charge me $10! After I just bought a $20 chain from him!
So I called another bike shop on Park ave (Local Cycles) and asked how much to pop a pin and he had no idea how much to charge, so I offered a few dollars. It took the guy literally 10 seconds to pop the pin and he did it for free... and I didn't even buy the chain from him. I know this wasn't a business move because I never mentioned the ordeal with Buddy's until AFTER the deal was done and he had already said don't worry about it (referring to the few dollars I offered). He was just genuinely helpful. Furthermore, he said that the chain Buddy sold me was cheap, not worth $20, and would probably be rusted in a few weeks.
I understand Buddy is a business and is offering a service, but seriously to charge a young guy $10 for 10 seconds of work using a $20 tool, and after I just bought a $20 product from him, that is a little ridiculous, and is not my idea of a friendly local bike shop. I didn't like dealing with him and I felt like I was being taken advantage of.
I just moved into Long Beach full time and won't be going to Buddy's anymore. It was not a very welcoming experience. The only reason I give two stars instead of one is because he actually had the chain in the first place, which is no great accomplishment anway (it IS a bike shop...) -

I am impressed by their parts department. I needed a bolt for my crank shaft and Buddy delivered!
