I am a member of the Spirit Rock community and discovered Evan through an article he wrote titled "Marriage as a Precept" in the magazine Inquiring Mind.  I had initially enlisted a friend to perform our marriage ceremony, but after I read that article I knew I wanted Evan there and from the moment he said he was available, he exceeded our expectations wildly.

Evan is warm, kind, wise, humble and very sensitive to the complexities of relationship.  He was on time for every meeting, very fairly priced, and always present with us, wherever we were at.  I instantly felt like I'd known him forever.

He was open to us writing our ceremony entirely on our own, using his experience as a sounding board.  He helped us research the poems and readings we wanted and didn't balk at our three revisions.  When the time came for him to read our words he inserted his energy beautifully, adding a handful of his own observations about us, which made us feel so loved.  He also worked seamlessly with the challenges we had during the ceremony - such as whirring sirens, chirping birds and rain - and wove it all into the context of mindfulness with humor and ease.

Our family and friends still remark on our ceremony's loving, present and intimate vibe.  It would not have been the same without Evan holding the space he does.  I feel so lucky to have found him, and delight in knowing he is out there in the world supporting other couples  in this special passage.

    Thank you Evan!

Evan has an energy about him that is tangible to those tuned in to it.

My fiancé' and I are wedding Videographers and have had the pleasure of working with him several times. His ceremonies are touching, elegant, and focused on the moment. I have personally shot and attended hundreds of weddings, and Evan's are on the very top of my "favorites" list from the last six years of experience.

Here is a ceremony he performed in June 2011:

Evan's presence officiating our wedding was warm, nurturing, inviting and joyous.  We are incredibly grateful that he became an integral part of such a special event.  We were interested in crafting a wedding ceremony to our own style, being able to express our intentions in ways that were heartfelt and meaningful to us that could be both an expression of the foundation of our relationship and a celebration of our love.  Evan met with us and asked us about our intentions and style and then asked us enough clarifying questions and worked with us to develop what it was that we really wanted, but probably didn't exactly say.  He also helped us find appropriate poems and readings.  The result was a memorable event for us and our guests.  We've received wonderful comments about how beautiful the ceremony was.  Evan is a pleasure to spend time with and most importantly he brought our intentions to our wedding.

We are so happy we had Evan officiate our wedding this past summer in San Francisco.  He patiently worked with my wife and I to customize a ceremony that was just right for us.

Neither of us are particularly religious, but wanted a ceremony that reflected our values and was "real".  He also helped weave in Buddhist principles, but was accommodating in making the ceremony have more of a warm and spiritual feel, vs. being too overtly religious.    With that said, he is open to making your ceremony as traditional or non-conventional as you want - after all, it is your special day and he acknowledged many times throughout the process that he was there to accommodate our wishes.

On the wedding day itself, Evan was a very calming presence in what can otherwise feel like a chaotic day.  We would HIGHLY recommend him for anyone who is looking to avoid a cookie-cutter type ceremony and wants to create a truly memorable experience.

Evan is a genuinely kind and caring person, and we are so thankful to have worked with him.  Thanks, Evan!

Evan was the best officiant my wife and I could have asked for.  We were both a little nervous about finding the right officiant, but from our first meeting he put us at ease and really listened to who we are and what we wanted.  He guided us through the planning and offered tons of suggestions until we came up with a great ceremony we loved.  I completely agree with all of alyson g.'s comments as well, especially the calming influence part.  We love you Evan!

Evan officiated our wedding ceremony in May 2010, and we are so
grateful for the amazing work that he did. When we first met with
Evan, we had only vague ideas about how we wanted our ceremony to be - but we both knew that crafting a personal, unique ceremony was very important to us. Evan was such a skillful guide in helping us create a meaningful ceremony that felt like a real expression of who we are and what we value. He brought wonderful suggestions about how the ceremony could be ordered, rituals and phrases we might use - while at the same time giving us so much space to modify the ceremony in a way that made it uniquely ours. We were so pleased with the end result. On the weekend of the wedding itself, he was a calm, gentle presence at both our wedding rehearsal and our wedding. We heard from many friends and family members that they found our ceremony as beautiful, touching, and honest as we did. This process that we went through with Evan of defining and writing our intentions for our marriage not only allowed us to create a beautiful ceremony for the day itself, but more importantly allowed us to bring this definition of our commitment forward into our actual marriage. Evan gave us a lovely copy of our ceremony that we can keep and refer to over the years. We recommend him highly.

We highly recommend using Evan Kavanagh as your wedding officiator. He was extremely pleasant and professional to work with throughout the entire process of preparing our non-traditional and non-denominational ceremony. This included advising us on the flow of the ceremony to editing the text for our vows. You will be especially glad at the ceremony itself when you are standing next to Evan as he creates an environment of warmth that makes all of your friends and family feel welcomed and included in your celebration. If you want to work with someone who is extremely flexible and enthusiastic about helping you create a very meaningful and personalized experience then Evan is the person that you want to work with!
