Good food if you have no where else to go. I haven't had a bad experience with the service but had a hair in my food. I was very grossed out, definitely stopped eat there after that.
My husband and I always complained about "stomach pains" after leaving.
There frenchfries with gravy are good though! -

I don't know where to start. I walked in to this diner and the cashier starred T me looking at me like what I'm doing there. No signs were posted about seating. So she asked me rudely "how can I help you". So I did not how to respond to that. I said table for one. She seated me, she never told me her name and table was not clean. I ordered cheese steak and I got meat on a bun. The best part of the meal was the fresh fries. I posted a pic of my cheese steak. You tell me what u think.
I left I satisfied. The older women behind cashier was very rude. Did not even ask me how was the meal. Never coming back here. -

Waited long to be seated. Waitress came out and coughed all over the table. Ordered a water, it came in a dirty cup. We left without ordering anything. Completely appalled. I will never step foot in there again. I recommend the same for everyone else. Gross.

Three stars for food and service, and an extra for nostalgia. I used to go here when I was in High School.
My kid had shrimp in a basket, wife had a gyro, I had a 3x decker turkey. All above average.
Had breakfast there too. Also good, probably better. -

This has been a local hangout for many many years and its biggest selling point is that it is one of the few area diners still open 24 hours.
The food is ok. Nothing special. The prices are ok and maybe even a little high for diner food.
If you need a decent breakfast or late night coffee this place will serve just find.
If you want a little higher quality food, keep searching. -

The only thing I ever order here are the mozeralla cheese fries with gravy. Yum! The staff is also great. If you want the N.J. diner experience, go here.

The hostess on duty when we went (a Wednesday night) was very friendly and accomodating, getting our infant carrier comfortably into a booth, chatting with our 3-year-old, getting him crayons and a coloring page, etc.
Our waitress was okay, except that when we told her we were done she cleared a couple of dishes and then hung out behind the counter doing nothing for about 10 minutes before she remembered to write up our bill.
My son had the kids' menu spaghetti and meatballs. It was a plate of spaghetti with one huge meatball (very soft and mushy, no chewing required, reminiscent of liverwurscht), and he wasn't served the "roll with butter" that the menu description included.
I had a burger with cheddar, bacon, lettuce and tomato. It came with wonderfully hot and crispy french fries. The burger, cooked medium just like I ordered, was flavorless. The cheddar was in small enough quantity that I didn't taste it. The bacon was generously proportioned, but the good salty smokiness you hope for from bacon was lost in the rest of the burger, I suppose because of how terribly terribly flavorless the meat was.
My husband ordered the tuna salad hot pita with cheddar cheese. It came with deep-fried zucchini sticks that were unimpressive to him but a treat to my son. The pita bread, unfortunately, didn't come as a pocket and so it was impossible to pick up. Aside for this obvious misstep, my husband really enjoyed the sandwich once he started using a fork and knife to eat it.
For how unimpressive the food is, I'd say the prices are too high by about $1-2 a meal. $7 is too much for a kid's diner meal of a half-cup of juice, a plate of spaghetti and one icky meatball, even if it had come with the roll.
I would give the Budd Lake Diner a rating of 3 stars for service, 2 stars for food, and 1 star for pricing. We won't be giving it a second try. -

I love BLD!
My family and I used to go to BLD every Sunday morning after church. Anything on the breakfast menu is very delicious.
My go-to meal would be the taylor ham, egg, and cheese sandwich on a roll with a side of fries.
The service is great and the food is pretty good, gotta love it! -

Went here for dinner with my boss on a business trip. It a cute little place with your typical diner decor. It was easy to identify the family that owns it, like the older Greek (maybe) guy that rang up the tab. So yeah, I am all about supporting the local businesses and such, but I was really not thrilled with my food.
I ordered the baked ziti, which came with a salad to start. The lettuce was just sitting in a huge puddle of water! Such a pet peeve of mine. I mean, use a salad spinner or something, people! So I put on the dressing, but it just turned into bigger puddle. Yuck.
The baked zita did not have any cheese mixed in, rather it was a few slices of motz draped across and melted. So it was very challenging to get cheese in every bite. Plus there was a big watery puddle under the noodles and marinara.
Anyway, not great, but maybe worth another try... they do have a large menu. -

I've heard about this place for a while, since my friend grew up in Budd Lake... so when I went to try out the diner, I had some high expectations.
Budd Lake has that small town feel to it, and my friend was friendly with the owners, so when we walked in and they greeted my friend, it made the place feel more homey. Gotta love the cozy diner ambiance. People were trickling in and by the time we left, the place seemed very full.
The service was suuuuper prompt, and they were able to put in special requests for us, in terms of how they cooked the chicken we had, etc. We got a chicken parm dish and a cup of soup. Both were pretty good, so no complaints there.
The only thing that seemed a bit odd was our bill at the end of the meal... for what we ate, they definitely charged us a little extra. Oh well. -

If you're looking for the quintessential New Jersey diner, you should probably look no further. Lets see all the qualities that make it such: run by people of Greek descent, located along the famed Route 46, open 24 hours, probably safe to only eat the fried food, guaranteed to see scores of smart-ass teenagers any weekend night, and yes, unfortunately as much as it pains me to write, they don't allow smoking. If your looking for your standard NJ diner, BLD's as most people call it, is your place.

Budd Lake, NJ
This place is a typical NJ diner. The breakfast is great and they're open 24/7. The entrees aren't anything fantastic, but when I'm out of food at home and need a quick decent meal at any hour, it's the place to go! The staff has always been friendly as well.

Have been going here for over twenty years. I get the basics, not the 'culinary' attempts at diner food. I get the fries, shakes and cheesesteaks... and always find them to be A-OK!!

Budd Lake, NJ
This diner suffers from the usual problems: too many menu items, not enough of them done well. Entrees are generally bad to ok. Desserts are pretty good. If you are in Budd Lake in the middle of the night, though, this is the place for you!

After giving it multiple trys over the years, sorry to say that the food just doesn't cut it for me. The people are nice enough, but.. Well, I'll just leave it at that..
