The Tiger Stripe ice cream was the first treat I had freshman year! It's delicious and will always remind me of The Columns.

My dad ate Buck's ice cream back when he went to Mizzou in the 50s...ag majors made their own ice cream on campus. It was closed when I went to Mizzou in the 80s...reopened the year after I left.
At any rate, we rediscovered Buck's ice cream on a recent day trip...go for the Tiger Stripe. Great-tasting rich vanilla flavor. Generous portions at a great price.
I think I have seen Tiger Stripe at a St. Louis grocery store...but can't remember which one! Anyone know? Because now I have to have some more!!!! -

In honor of the beautiful spring weather Columbia has JUST RECENTLY (bout time) started experiencing, I decided to get ice cream.
I typed ice cream into Yelp and saw all the typical ones.. Cold Stone.. Sparky's.. and then I ran into this. Five stars for a place on campus? OUR CAMPUS HAS A PLACE THAT SELLS ICE CREAM?? I was quite curious and decided to go for it.
I got there and smiled when I realized that it wasn't just some classroom inside of the building. It is in fact an ice cream shop ON CAMPUS.
There are a few large tables outside and there are plenty of smaller tables inside. There were two other people in there ordering and from what I could tell this place is a hidden treasure that not many people seem to know about.
They had 12 different flavors to choose from, some of which were pretty unique. Of course they had good ol' Tiger Stripe ice cream, but they also had DARK chocolate, banana chocolate chip, and peach yogurt. I decided to go with one scoop of Tiger Stripe ice cream after seeing the HUGE size of the scoop that the guy before me had received. I ended up paying $1.50 for one GIGANTIC scoop of Tiger Stripe ice cream on a cake cone. Best deal ever.
AND THIS WAS NOT EVEN THE BEST PART.... THEY ALLOW STUDENT CHARGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be getting ice cream snacks here quite often for the remaining month of school. You should too.

Some of the best ice cream in town, and it's made on-site. It can be difficult to find the store, but once you figure out where it is, it's easy to get to. I actually never knew about the place before I found them on Groupon, and I've lived in Columbia for 25 years.
You have the option of buying ice cream in a cup or cone, or getting it pre-packed in half-gallon and pint containers out of the freezer, which is pretty convenient. If you're not a student, try going while students are in class, and you won't have to wait very long. Parking is free for 15 minutes, so don't plan on hanging out for very long, or the horrible MU police will ticket you.
I'd like to give 5-stars for food quality, but because of their HORRIBLE service, I'm only giving 2. I don't recall ever being treated worse at any food establishment in my life, and I've decided it's just best not to return. On more than half of my visits, I've been ignored or otherwise treated like they didn't need my business. I hate leaving a place feeling angry, so I'm just done with these idiots.
Also, if you go, take cash, because they don't accept debit or credit cards. -

It may not always have been called Buck's, but this little hole-in-the-wall ice cream shop has been around at MU a long, long time. How long? My Mom and Dad went there when they were attending MU, 43 years ago. When my Dad went there, it was at the very southwest corner of the campus, but the campus has since grown up around it.
Back then, my Dad said, it wasn't really advertised much--it was sort of an open secret, the kind of place whose reputation spread through word of mouth. I don't know to what extent that is still true today, but it is still tempting to call it one of MU's best-kept secrets.
This ice cream shop is where MU's agricultural department puts to good use some of the by-products of students' educations in the dairy sciences. They make their own ice cream--and they make it good.
They have a dozen or so flavors at their disposal, but the specialty of the house is their "tiger stripe" ice cream. This is vanilla ice cream, colored orange (in keeping with the whole "tiger" theme), marbled with rich frozen fudge. This is pure frozen crack in a cone, and once you've tasted it you'll be sure to crave it ever afterward.
And the best part? At $1.25 for a single huge scoop and $2 for a double, this is recession-proof dairy bliss at its very best! A word of warning, though: be careful with their double-dip cones, they're monsters! -

This shop is super small, but awesome! They make their own ice cream here and it is fantastic. They have their own flavors, such as Tiger Stripe. Check out more info at...

Always a hometown favorite. I went in to taste the new "healthy" ice cream. Both flavors, blueberry and acai were quite tasty but I'm a chocolate ice cream kind of girl so I walked out with a scoop of my favs. Tiger stripe and rocky road are always at the top of the list. Huge scoops, great price. Make this a must go place if you are visiting Co Mo.

Tiger Stripe ice cream. It's just vanilla/fudge twirl dyed black and orange, but it's the best. This is among the best ice cream I've ever eaten.

No dairy-free options, so boo. They do have sherbet and frozen yogurt, though. People love it, but I haven't had the ice cream so I can't comment. Besides being convenient if you're on that part of campus, I don't see the big deal.

Try the tiger stripe ice cream. It's the best. This is located in the the University's food science building, and they do often have interesting flavors not available at your local grocery!
