Review from Jared E.
Went here Friday night with some people and sat outside in the beautiful backyard.
We shared a bottle of chardonnay and munched on pita bread and tapenade as we waited for the entrees to arrive. I got the surf n' turf as usual, and as usual it was AMAZING. I spoke with the chef/owner about my meal as he always stops by and enjoys discussing the quality of the food he serves. The lobster tail was a cold water South African lobster tail covered in just a dribbling of lobster bisque sauce. According to Emad (the chef/owner) that's the only lobster tail he will serve anymore because they are the only tails where quality is consistent. I also got a good lecture on steak, and found out that he uses "choice" meat, where most restaurants will use "select" or just regular commercial grade meat.
Mom had the romano crusted chicken which I've had before and it's really good. She said it was just as good this time around. The other friend I was with had the soft shell crab special and she loved it. I don't like soft shell crab, and was forced to take a bite of her soft shell crab entree, and I can say that I still don't like it. Especially if it's served atop a rice pilaf that has cilantro tossed into it. To each his own.
We finished off with some chocolate bread pudding that was served alongside some Jeni's vanilla ice cream.
Perfect. Every time.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Luke T.
In the land of Cracker Barrel and Wal-Mart rests a hidden gem called Buckley House. I wasn't expecting to find anything like this on a recent trip to Marietta. Not only am I positive it is the best cuisine in Marietta, it stands apart from most places in relatively-close Columbus.
Occupying the ground floor of a converted, beautiful, Colonial-style home (the owners live upstairs), Buckley House has loads of charm, including original wood floors, woodwork, and more. Considering the space, it is likewise cozy, warm, and somewhat small. They don't cramp too many tables in there, however, so seating is somewhat limited.
The menu is small and concise, with just a hint of a Lebanese influence, as one of the owners is of Lebanese descent. But in all likelihood, you won't be ordering off the menu anyway, as, at least on the night we dined, there were upwards of ten daily specials. Kudos to our waiter for even managing to remember them all, let alone descriptions. After starting with a beet salad, it was time for entrees. For me, it was a toss up between a striped bass dish and lobster ravioli. I went with the ravioli. My better half opted for a giant hunk of lamb. Fortunately, another of our party, who has the same diet as myself, was debating the same two dishes, so we each ordered one and sampled the other. As such, I can attest that the bass was as delicious as the ravioli.
The wine selections were limited, but well chosen. I imagine having a freezer and walk-in somewhere on site limited the possibility of a very large wine cellar. I was debating between a pinot and a malbec, questionable for seafood, but right on target for pasta. The waiter steered me toward the malbec, which is one of my favorite varietals, so I took the recommendation. It was on point. Rich and intense, it paired well with the dish.
I wish we had saved room for dessert, but there was just no way I could have stomached it. We all went home stuffed. I was a bit shocked at our total. Nearly $80, and close to $100 for two after tip; I've had similar meals for $15-20 less in Columbus. I suppose considering the area, there's probably a slight upcharge on quality and service like this. Don't get me wrong, it was well worth it. A lovely meal, great conversation with friends, and a good time all around. -

Simply put, I don't think this place could ever get below a 5, even on a bad day. The Buckley House is by far the best restaurant in Marietta (for both food and service). Also, if you get an opportunity to sit outside, especially in the gazebo, take advantage. I've never been disappointed with anything here. Ok, so maybe I wish they had liquor, and not just wine, but hey, the wines they do have are just fine with me. The restaurant itself is rather small, and I would suggest calling ahead for reservations, because there typically isn't a lot of room for walk-in guests. However, even if you have to wait (no matter how long the wait), it's totally worth it.

Hands down the best lunch in the Parkersburg/Marietta area--affordable and tasty. Great service at any hour. Charming location. This place is not to be missed.

I can not begin to thank my friends who are local Merietta residents for taking me to this incredible eating establishment. Buckley House is located in an old house that would give no warning of the tremendous eating experience that I encountered.
Who would have thought that one would find some of the finest Mideastern food served in Ohio in this quaint restaurant. Outstanding food, great service, and an owner chef that walks around making sure you are more than satisfied with the food. -

So good! We were on our way from West Virginia to Lake Erie and happened into the Buckley House based on the rave reviews. We were not disappointing! My husband and I travel a lot, and love to try different places along the way, and we are both self acclaimed foodies. I would drive out of my way to eat at this place! The Shwarma Salad was excellent, and my husband got the chicken shwarma sandwich that he said was great. The chef came out to talk to us and welcome us to his home/restaurant, and was quite the character. If you are anywhere near Marietta, OH, this is a MUST TRY!

Marietta, OH
The Buckley House has moved into the top spot for my favorite place to eat in the Marietta area.
The restaurant is located in an old bed and breakfast which affords unique niches for diners to enjoy their meal. This does mean that some spots are a little cozy but overall the atmosphere is pleasant and the black and white decor is fashionable.
The menu has a middle-eastern focus that is brought up to fine-dining standards. The food all tasted very fresh, cooked properly and with great flavor. Care was also given to plate present and service was good throughout. -

Best place to eat in the area. I've lived in the area for 4.5 years. A while ago my boss raved about this place. I went there with my wife along with another couple. It was fantastic. Emad, the owner and chef has opened a delightful place for those who want to try truly fresh gourmet food without visiting a large city. I had brazunni

Marietta, OH
The Buckley House has the best food in Marietta, hands down. Amazing chef. This is the place to go if you're looking to splurge on a great dinner that will go down in history for you. Thankfully, they have a very affordable lunch buffet during the cooler months, so you get a taste of the excellent food without killing your wallet. Their coffee is excellent, and their desserts are all made in-house, save the Jeni's (Columbus) ice cream they serve. In the summer months, they use the beautiful, luscious back porch and yard of the historic home for serving areas (which means there's no lunch buffet in the summer due to the difficult logistics of getting into the house from the back). Their summer lunch menu is still very reasonably priced. I always have a wonderful experience at the Buckley House, whether it's the buffet or dinner. If you have a group, be sure to make reservations ahead of time. Space is very limited.

This used to be a B&B, and now the main floor is an AMAZING restaurant. The chef is often out greeting his customers in this 15-20 table establishment, which is great to see. Wait staff is friendly and helpful. The Buckley House specializes in Mediterranean cuisine with an American twist.
First up is pita bread with an olive tapenade; I'm not a big fan of olives but my companions thought it was excellent. Menu is not huge, but there is something for every palate (substitutions can be made as well). I got the orzo salad and was not disappointed - the flavor combinations were great! Next up was the main course - the mixed grill - tilapia, shrimp, and scallops served with a lobster bisque risotto and side of stir fried veggies (in season). The subtle flavor of lobster in the risotto made me savor each bite, the meal was a perfect portion, and all of the seafood was top notch. I overheard the chef say he doesn't believe in frozen seafood - he has fresh flown in! For dessert I had the mango custard, which was light and airy (thank goodness because I was really full), yet had a unique combination of fruity flavors that I thoroughly enjoyed. I also decided to try the Turkish coffee, which is served in a small cup comparable to expresso, yet is thicker and stronger. It wasn't my cup of "coffee," but it was unique and worth the experience. My companions also raved about their meals - salmon served with peaches and walnuts and duck prepared in a berry sauce. One of them also had the homemade Baklava for dessert, which I tasted, and it was equally amazing.
Who knew all of this could be had in Marietta, OH?? Definitely worth many visits!!
