Calamari.
Really, the calamari appetizer is like crack. Not sure what it is about the sweet and sour sauce, but it is highly addictive. It's really why we end up here once or twice a year, usually for birthday dinners. In the beginning we had family feuds over the last few bits, so now we just order 2 plates for 3 people. It's just less violent that way.
Ok, ok, the rest of the food is very good, too. I like that they have something for everyone. You can have your sea bass with mashed potatoes, or you can just order the pretzel bread sandwich. They don't judge.
The Diner is more upscale than one might deduce from the outside. They don't take reservations, but I've never had to wait longer than 10 minutes for a table.
Fun place, good mix of elegant and casual. Take your buddies or go with Grandma. It's all good. -

We stopped at Buckhead Diner before heading to the airport. Some reviews compare it to NYC Diners, but this place is far from that. There is valet service, and the inside is upscale with white linens on the tables, but not the booths. The jacketed wait staff is friendly and helpful. The prices are not as high as I had expected based on the reviews.
We ordered the Buttermilk Fried Quail for an appetizer which was done to perfection. The coating was light and did not over-power the taste of the Quail at all. For our entres we had a Burger and a BLT with Two Fried Eggs. Both were very, very good. The burger was ordered medium and came out as such. Juicy and full of flavor. The fries were kind of non-discript. I was expecting something a bit more from the fries to be honest. The BLT was on a nice Italian bread that was toasted and not soggy at all. -

I felt like I was back in NYC at one of their wonderful diners. Who would have thought that Atlanta would have a real diner!
The weight staff was wonderful, the food excellent Suggest making a reservation. -

It has been a few years since I patroned Buckhead Diner, which was one of my go-to places for special dinners before we moved overseas. When Buckhead Restaurant week rolled around, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to try BD again, especially because their $25 menu seemed like the best value out of all the participating restaurants.
I made a booking via OpenTable for our party of four. BD doesn't actually take reservations so you are actually placing a "call ahead" seating. For 7:30 on a Sunday, it sure was crowded! Lucky for us, there was a spot at the bar and my "best champagne cocktail ever" lived up to its name deliciously. Heaven.
My menu consisted of:
-- Grilled Artichoke Bruschetta (yum!)
-- Shaved fennel and baby spinach salad with citrus vinaigrette (very clean and refreshing)
-- Mini lamb burger (tzatziki plus lamb in miniature size? yes yes yes!)
-- Butter Cracker crusted Hake with garlic spinach (de-lish)
-- Key Lime Pie
Everything was really yummy and delicious. Our waiter was very kind, prompt with drink refills, and provided exemplary service.
BD does require some patience, but its such a relaxing atmosphere that I found it worthwhile. Its not my first recommendation for an ATL dining experience, but I definitely wouldn't steer someone away from the wonderful service and tasty food. -
Review from Amy C.
Great menu selection with an atmosphere like a diner, but quality and prices like much finer dining. To sum up my experience, there were some high highs and very low lows. Read on for more details.
About the food...
I had my first deviled egg (that I can remember), and it was shockingly delicious. I'm not going to lie though...I did find the concept of a deviled egg to be strange and a lot of work for a small bite of food. I was in Atlanta, so I had to get the fried chicken with macaroni. I thought the chicken was slightly disappointing (a little dry), but the macaroni was amazing given that I don't even like milk products. I tried the crab cake off my friend's plate, and that may have been my favorite part of the main entree. Appetizer was ceviche, which had a great assortment of seafood though I still like my husband's ceviche more. Dessert was a disappointing red velvet cake that was just too dry, so I also got the creme brûlée which was way better. -

The first time I visited this restaurant was a number of years ago. After valet parking, we entered and checked out the menu. Wait a minute...this is not real diner food. And the prices are a bit steep (for a poor college student at the time). So back out the door we went.
Now well informed of what I would be getting into, I visited again. This night was not very busy and we didn't have to use valet parking (I don't even remember a valet being there that night). We parked on the Peachtree side of the restaurant.
We weren't that hungry so we shared a dish. We got the mahi mahi. It was very good. The best thing about this place, based on this one visit, is the service. Our waiter was absolutely divine. He was attentive and hilarious! The night was so cheery because of him.
Good food and good service. I will definitely be back. This time with more of an appetite. -

I have enjoyed the Buckhead Diner for nearly 20 years. I was in over the weekend and the interior has maintained the décor all these years. It's warm, a little dark, cozy despite how big it is and welcoming. The floors likely have been replaced to still look so fresh. It's absolutely a diner but a diner you can wear an evening gown to should your night require such attire before or after eating here. Come in your jeans otherwise. They welcome it all.
Still packing them in on a Saturday after decades is a great sign. I got there long before my reservation but still had to wait a bit after my appointed time. I was happy to observe the GM so actively engaged with customers as well as helping do every job that needed to keep things flowing smoothly. Cheery hostess and the staff seemed to be moving things along nicely.
The bar area and front waiting area were quite packed! There is plenty of seating in the restaurant but there were just too many bottoms requesting one of the many seats so it was standing room only for 2-3 dozen people. We all wait with a smile knowing what treats await.
Once seated our waiter set the tone. He was odd and later learned he completely disregarded me ordering the signature starter of blue cheese chips (you must get these. They were the first in the city to offer them and may be the only restaurant that still does and the main reason I chose to dine there). The food runner and GM were quick to remedy this after our entrees arrived and I announced the starter hadn't been delivered. That put a damper on our experience the rest of the evening. I expect flawless service from a Buckhead Life restaurant.
Food:
The wine list is very decent for a "diner" - but this is no run of the mill diner. Do not let the name fool you.
I saw pimento cheese fritters at the pass and regretted not getting those alongside the blue cheese chips. I have to return to experience these golden delights.
The veal mushroom meatloaf is a must have comfort food elevated to Buckhead Life standards. It's a long time signature of theirs for a reason.
"S & S" Florida shrimp & Maine lemon sole: I have mixed feelings about. The sole was unimpressive in flavor. Texture was lovely and fish is fresh but the crust didn't really compliment the delicate fish. The shrimp was quite exquisite though. Very tender with a sweet almost lobster like flavor. Fantastic tartar sauce. Fries are nothing memorable but are obligatory on a fried plate of seafood.
Grilled Niman Ranch Pork Chop & arborio risotto with parmesan : One fine plate of food. Tender savory pork and the risotto was perfectly cooked and seasoned. If I lacked manners I would have licked the plate. Seriously. Umami flavors at their best.
I am officially disappointed that the incredible chocolate cake they used to serve is no longer offered. It's without question the best one I've had by a mile.
I may go back just for that and another piece of the white chocolate banana crème pie (and those pimento fritters). My dining companion and myself still are thinking about that pie 2 days later.
Shame on service but I will return. I have had many excellent experiences in the past and hope to have many more in the future. -

I have been told that this place has historical significance, so my team and I decided to have our team dinner here.
I was impressed with their cornbread (yes the little breads they give for free). My mahi-mahi was a bit dry and flavorless, but the grits were good. The chicken was overcooked and their famous fries with blue cheese was good, but nothing special. We did try their white chocolate banana cream pie, that was good, but didn't live up to the James Beard award.
Also, the parking is VALIDATED. Just FYI. -

This is a diner?????
White linen jackets, exemplary service, wine without a screw top????
Man it was good. Calamari rocks!!!! What a wonderful sweet and sour concoction that was! Sweet sauce and yet the calamari is still crunchy. YUM!!!!
Caesar salad with a flat iron steak instead of chicken??? Oh yeah, that was good!!!!
Quiet and relaxing. A great place to go with friends. We did lunch and I can't wait to go back for dinner! -

I'd passed this restaurant a million times and I frequent a number of the other Buckhead Life Group restaurants (Bistro Niko is one of my favorites) so my son and I decided to give this a try last night. To make a long story short, I was SERIOUSLY underwhelmed.
I found the service to be mediocre at best. Even though the restaurant was not full, it took 15-20 minutes for a waiter to show up and ask "what we'd like" without even explaining the Blue Plate Special. I ordered a burger and fries and my son was excited about the Grouper. The Burger was ok but it came without the fries I'd ordered and our waiter never came to check on us until I'd just about finished my meal. When he finally made his way back over to us, he never said anything about my fries and I didn't mention it - what's the point.
The food was ok. My burger was acceptable and my son enjoyed his Grouper. I'd been looking forward to trying one of their desserts but the lack of service just made me want to pay our bill and leave as soon as humanly possible (which is exactly what we did).
Needless to say, I will never go back to the Buckhead Diner but I wil continue to frequent Bistro Niko and other Buckhead Life restaurants. -

Went here with another couple because they had a giftcard.
I will say that the food was tasty, I got the brisket ravioli but the portion for a pasta dish was rather small and the price was rather steep. I would have put the portion size more akin to a tapas restaurant.
Let it be known that the food was good just a misalignment of expectations.
They don't seem to take reservations but you can be put on a preferred waiting list to speed up your seating upon arrival. -

Love the old school, diner decor. Too bad the service staff wasn't moving around on roller skates.
Started off off with the blue cheese homemade chips, which were tasty. For main, I had the pork chop with risotto cooked medium. It was wonderful and believe it didn't come too far, TN I think. Server took good care of us.
Had fun and enjoyed ourselves. Will be back! -

The Buckhead Diner was recently our choice for Dad's 60th birthday dinner. It did not disappoint! The food is classic, flawless, and super super tasty. Our server had the perfect personality. He mixed great service with jokes and charisma. I love that kind of approach! Our table got the crab cakes, steak frites, pork chop, and NY strip. Everything was to-die for. My only complaint was the wait time. We called ahead and still had a 20 minute wait. All in all, though - a great night. Thanks to the Buckhead Diner for making Dad's 60th special!

This place has slipped. We came in at a slow time; late lunch and were seated in a nice booth but the service after that was spotty. The waiter spent most of his time chatting with other customers. We never got a second offer of coffee or tea. We had to ask other people to help us.
The sandwiches were good for my other diners-probably 4 star. My hamburger would of been good but they put mustard on it-a small amount but I am a purist on hamburgers (i use ketchup) and a purist on hot dogs (I use mustard). So while the meat was nicely cooked the overall experience was not great.
They have a great potential to get back on their game but someone is not watching the management here. -
Review from Brian K.
Those who know me are well aware that I have a perpetual disgust for diners. I've certainly dined at my fair share of said establishments in pursuit of the occasional culinary novelty; however, for all intents and purposes, diners are nothing more than legalized foodborne disease mongers staffed by silver foxes, ex-cons, and illegals. That being said, Buckhead Diner is a welcomed deviation from the norm.
Food: Buckhead diner serves traditional American diner fare with a gourmet twist. However, this is no surprise considering that most of the offerings are the brain child of famed Atlanta Chef Kevin Rathbun, who resurrected this place from near destruction a decade ago. The menu is comprised of a diverse array of appetizers, flatbreads, salads, burgers and sandwiches, classic entrees, and desserts. My personal favorites are the blue cheese chips (warm in-house potato chips doused in warm maytag blue cheese), chicken breast pretzel club (grilled chicken and applewood smoked bacon in between warm pretzel bread), and the white chocolate banana cream pie (dubbed the country's best dessert in 1994 by the venerable James Beard Foundation).
Service: If a restaurant is pricey enough that you need to remortgage your home to dine there, then the service should be impeccable. This is certainly the case at Buckhead Diner, where they will essentially kiss your ass to kingdom come. In fact, they will even give you a black linen napkin if you're wearing dark pants, so as to prevent lint transfer.
Atmosphere: The atmosphere of this place is mildly reminiscent of an average American diner, but sophisticatedly upscale. The booths are well maintained, the metal fixtures are polished, and the floors are clean enough to eat off of.
Cost: Yes, this place is markedly more expensive then a typical diner. However, this is Buckhead, so I wouldn't expect anything different. Most entrees cost between $15 and $30, so even a lunch for two will cost $50. If you're looking for a place where you can order a combo deal by the number, then I suggest you dine elsewhere.
Other: Most patrons assume that there is only mandatory valet parking available, which will set you back $2 + tip. However, the lot along the north side of the restaurant is always self-park and there's typically ample street parking along East Paces Ferry. It's also important to note that they don't take reservations per se; however, you can request "Priority Seating" via OpenTable, which usually results in prompt seating upon arrival. -

I'm not sure who thinks this is a two $$ restaurant... It's definitely more like a $$$ if you ask me!
I wasn't expecting it to be anything spectacular and based on outside appearance, I said, "We made reservations for this?" then we walked in and it all sunk in.
We had the blue cheese chips as recommended by so many Yelpers, and we weren't disappointed. Just know that they are $9.
We split the steak ($30) and it was delicious. We split out dinner to have room for dessert.
You have to try the white chocolate banana cream pie... While it's expensive ($8), it is so delicious. Don't waste your money on a soda... You'll be given an 8oz bottle (it's not fountain pop). Save yourself money and get a water instead.
Overall, I'm glad we went, but our total (after tip) was $70!! It's pricey, so if you know that going into it, you'll probably have a good experience and won't be shocked when the bill comes! -

I recently visited Buckhead diner (02/04/12) again. I believe the food and service has been improved since my last dine. I had the Asian noodle salad + fried shrimp appetizer. My friend had the crab cakes w/ asparagus. Both were very tasty and the server could not have been more polite. Again, the banana cream pie is killah !!!

I am seriously spoiled by the new Boyfriend. Yes, I used the word. Spoiled, that is. Oh, and Boyfriend.
Yeah, we've done divey Mexican and bar burgers (we both love both of those) but the places we go tend to be along the lines of Buckhead Diner most of the time. It's so awesome to date someone with my same taste in food and spots and who is always up for our next culinary adventure. Even better, I "won" our running ordering contest (only by a hair, though) at the latest lovely meal.
[Aside: did I mention how polite he is, always opening the restaurant and car door, having me order first and all that kind of stuff?? Smart, funny and cute don't hurt either. Yeah, I might be a smitten kitten.]
The Diner was pleasantly busy last night, which makes sense for a Sat and a holiday weekend. I think the Mart's in town, too and Buckhead Life restos always get a lot of that traffic. We had a short wait at the bar and got to people- and food-watch; the lady sitting right in front of us at the bar got the blackened cod with this amazing looking succotash. I was tempted . . . and it was hard to decide what to get!
I ventured a little out of my comfort zone this visit (the pork chop and the steak frites were very tempting as I know they're yummy, and I'd usually start with the awesome and huge crabcake). He wanted to get the calamari, something we both enjoy trying most places and both had enjoyed here before; it's called "Sweet & Heat" Thai chili lime calamari and comes with green beans, peppers and shallots. While it was good, we thought it tasted a little different than we recalled (we had a two-top right by the kitchen and the Chef heard us discussing this and assured us nothing had been changed...hmm), as it was a little "juicier/oilier" than we remembered and not quite as crisp. Same good flavors, so no big deal- maybe just how this particular order came out. I picked the other side, and after having the yummy deviled eggs at H+F a couple days ago, thought it would be fun to try Buckhead Diner's white truffle version, served over Bibb lettuce. Yummy!! For a Southern girl, I am a very recent convert to this old school staple and love the fact that nice restaurants have picked up on sophisticated versions of a down home classic.
Entrees were delicious. He went with the braised beef brisket ravioli - I tried one and it was perfect, with tender meat and a delicious browned butter jus. I went out on a little bit of a limb and got the Chili Mahi Mahi, asking them to make the spicy tomatillo vinaigrette a little less spicy (thanks to Chef for that suggestion if I was concerned about spice-factor) and smoked tomato grits. I like Mahi but felt a little adventurous given the set up and spicy-potential. He's the one who voted me the winner, so I feel confident in my ordering skills again (I was down a couple of rounds!).
Our server, Joe, was great and it was fun sitting in a cozy little booth with eye-access to the kitchen.
Since he brought it up, I am really looking forward to whatever we do for Valentine's dinner this year!Listed in: You say 24/7 . . . I say…, A is for Appetizer, Dates 'R Us, Calamari

I first ate here during my visit for the Olympic Games. It was featured on a restaurant show called dining around. Soo not the place you can just pick up and go. Expect a wait because this place is that popular. Ambiance is key here and this in not your momma's meatloaf or maybe it is, just a ittle dressier. When you enter through the door, you are transported to a 1920s rail car and the experience picks up from there. Wait staff wear jackets and bow ties. So if the heart of Atlanta, give this not so typical diner a try.

This is not a diner at all - it may look like one on the outside, but inside it's a really nice place. The price point is a bit high for lunch - OK, a lot high for lunch, with lunch entrees ranging between $15 and $30. The service is good and everything we tried was yummy - with the exception of the homemade chips, which I was not a fan of. Overall, not a bad experience, just not one I'd have regularly due to the price point.
Also, not a fan of the $2 valet (plus they expect you to tip). -
Review from Stella Y.
I recently went to a group dinner outing at Buckhead Diner and finally got to try this place. Things that come to mind:
-The shrimp and grits entree is amazing, small to medium portioned
-Their famous veal meatloaf entree is on the fancier side (presentation wise) but extremely salty. But good nonetheless. You just have to get over the sodium overload.
-Their turkey breast "Jardiniere" is really not good. Bland and boring, but a very healthy option. The turkey breast is pounded paper thin and it's dressed with arugula and a light vinaigrette.
-Get some appetizers, mainly the pimiento cheese balls and the spicy pow pow rock shrimp. Skip the Deep fried potatoes/chips stuff - that was totally unmemorable except for how bad it was.
-Banana cream pie is to die for. Really. It's sooo good.
-Valet park - it's a pain to park out there. But on busy night, you'll have to park across the street in the empty lot.
-Atmosphere wise, obviously not a true dingy diner feel (it's in Buckhead after all), but it's a good mix between a standard diner and an Olive Garden. -

Beautiful luxury diner with good food, but overpriced. I've been passing this diner many times and finally visited. The exterior and interior is totally stunning. There are tons of servers who are very friendly. Despite their constant check-ins our waiter made the amateur mistake of forgetting the specific request for no onions and tomatoes. I had the open faced salmon sandwich and it was cooked beautifully, but I expected some nicer sides for $15. I also had one of their shakes to go which was very delicious. All in all, this is a place to get upscale versions of all American fare. With all the options in Atlanta, I probably won't be back.

I must say I was pleasantly surpised by this place. Not your typical "Diner". While they may have some traditional Diner type food on the menu - this is certainly more of a high class restaurant than a Diner. And their prices reflect that. I went on a Tuesday night and it was packed. Plan on a wait. The bar was full of buckhead blue bloods and there was a variety of ages but I would say there was certainly a cougar crowd.
I had the asian noodle & Scallop salad and it was around $16 (one of the cheaper items on the menu). Nevertheless, it was delicious and the scallops were cooked perfectly. All in all the atmosphere was upbeat, the server was very energetic, and it was a nice place to come with a friend and chat. -

I ate here recently on a business trip, and let me note up front: despite the name and the outside, THIS IS NOT A DINER. It's actually an upscale restaurant nestled in a classic-style diner building.
So that said, it's a little pricey, but if you know that going in I think you're in for a pretty good experience. The meal I had was the Chili Spiced Mahi Mahi, which was only slightly spicy but was a very nicely prepared fish dish (and I say this coming from Boston) nestled in "smoked tomato grits", which were awfully tasty.
There were six of us at the table and everyone was happy with their food, so based on that one experience I'd call this a win. -

It's only a diner in theme, a good restaurant at heart.
I'll give it a contentious 4/5, but a few of the specials I've tried were not quite cooked to how I'd expect a restaurant of this caliber.
It's still good, and a place to go for people that like fancier fare in the area's limited selections, but it can't compete with my favorites back home where I'm from in either price or quality. -

I've been here a few times before and was never really compelled to write a review. The service has always been nice and the food has always been satisfying. Boyfriend and I are celebrating our 4-year anniversary and my parents generously gave us a Buckhead Life gift card. I am slightly intimidated by most Buckhead Life restaurants and since we've been to the Diner before, it's where we decided to go.
I reserved our table on Open Table, which the Diner is sure to mention is not actually a reservation, but a "Priority Seating Request". Either way, I'm glad I did it. When we pulled up, the lot was full and the valet said, "You called ahead right?". It was nice to be able to say "Yeah", but I wondered if we'd have come in a car other than our Chevy Cobalt, would we have been asked the same thing? When we stepped inside, an older gentleman was arguing with the hostess about, I presume, his wait being too long. We were glad to be able to say we'd semi-reserved our table online, and we were rewarded with a 40-minute wait time, as opposed to the hour-and-a-half being quoted to walk-ins.
We grabbed drinks from the bar and waited and people-watched. The wait wasn't terrible, but there is no good place to stand so I felt like we were constantly in the way. When we got seated, we were relieved and ready to relax.
Our waitress, Georgia, was cute and friendly. She told us Maureen (we don't know who that is, but hell yeah!) was sending us a calamari appetizer. We were surprised and thankful--especially since we weren't sure why exactly it was being sent. The only thing I can think of, is when I reserve a table on Open Table, I always compliment the staff in the "Maitre'D Requests" box. So far, it has paid off every time--I recommend you do it, even if you feel like a suck-up. No wait person or hostess is mad to hear, "You do a good job", I promise.
We also ordered the blue cheese chips, the Chicken Parmesan, and the Mahi Mahi Tostada. Every single bite was delicious and satisfying. My chicken parm certainly wasn't a new take on an old classic, but was more of the classic dish done exceedingly well. The chicken was crispy and juicy, and the sauce and cheese were rich, tangy, and tasty. The tostada had a great fiery flavor and the fish was perfectly done.
In the course of the evening, we had mentioned it was our anniversary. I promise I wasn't trying to get anything for free, buuut....they did bring us a free dessert, woo! They even wrote, "Happy 4th Anniversary" on the plate in delicious melted chocolate (no Hershey's syrup here!). I am more of a chocolate dessert person, but the Peach Bread Pudding they brought was insaaaaane. No lie. I have previously been known to make the "Braaagghhh" barfing sound at the mere mention of bread pudding, so trust me it was good stuff. And beggars can't be choosers, so I will eat my free dessert and I will like it!
Before the check came, Boyfriend and I took turns guessing what the total would be. Whenever we have a gift card or coupon, we end up way overspending, under the illusion of wealth. I was sure the tab would be $90, pre-giftcard. We were shocked--SHOCKED!--to discover the bill was only $55. I consider that a pleasant surprise, especially since our breakfast at the OG Pancake house was $30 yesterday, and it sucked.
Buckhead Diner has made a serious fan out of me. I went from "God I hate these stupid fancy places" to "Aww I LOVE Buckhead" in 2.5 hours. They really made my anniversary special....and tasty. -

I agree very much with the overall 3.5 star rating for Buckhead Diner. My friend and I came here last weekend for dinner. It was later, around 9:30, and we were seated right away. The "bread basket" actually contains miniature corn muffins that were so buttery and moist. The kernels of corn added a complementary sweetness. (The other bread sticks that arrived with the corn muffins were unremarkable, however.) We devoured everything in about 5 minutes (and still wanted more; those muffins!).
We weren't quite sure what to order. In the end, my friend opted for a cheeseburger with fries and I got a portabello mushroom melt. My friend very much enjoyed her hamburger; it was cooked to her specification (medium) and was a huge burger for the price. My veggie melt was also delicious. The sandwich, in addition to the mushrooms, also had roasted red peppers and, if I remember correctly, arugula. They were roasted in some sort of balsamic mixture so on the sandwich they were simultaneously sweet and savory. Very good. The cheese (might have been Cheddar) was properly melted but it unfortunately congealed rather quickly and hardened melted cheese just did not seem that appetizing to me, so I ended up leaving some of it behind. I only wish the sandwich would have been served on something besides the fluffy brioche roll. A hearty sandwich like this cries out for a heartier country loaf.
I was equally impressed with the sides. Too often at restaurants the sides for a sandwich are afterthoughts. Not so here. My field green salad was wonderful. The bright citrus dressing was applied in the perfect amount, so the salad was perfectly dressed. The homemade potato chips (surprise! didn't see those on the menu) were also wonderful. So crispy - I definitely couldn't eat just one.
Throughout dinner, service was wonderful. Our waiter was very professional and so nice to us girls.
I won't hesitate to return to Buckhead Diner again. (On a less-related note, I WILL hesitate to opt for valet parking here. We did (it was rainy and dark and complimentary) but in the 30 seconds the valet drove my car he for some reason turned the automatic headlights on. I didn't notice until the next day, when my car battery was dead. Boo.) -

Came here for brunch on a Sunday and I was not disappointed. The poached eggs and grits were fantastic. Truth be told I'm not a big fan of grits but this place may change my mind. A little pricier than I expected as other yelpers have noted that this is not your traditional diner. This is a good thing but you pay for the difference. Wife and mother-in-law were also impressed. We'll be back.

Buckhead Diner is a fun place to take visitors, but I can't say that the scene is something that I crave on a regular basis. This place screams old Buckhead and the blue hairs take it by storm. "This is the nicest diner that I've ever been to" and "I feel like I'm on a cruise ship" are two common responses that Buckhead Diner elicits. It's a hokey place with good food and hefty price tags. I always want to laugh out loud when the host takes my arm and escorts me to our table... really? In their defense, the service here is excellent and it's safe to say that your water glass will never be empty.
The food is consistently good. The mahi mahi tostada is my favorite, and the white cheddar grits that come with it are to die for. The chile sauce is what makes this dish; it's so flavorful and adds a little spice. Most recently, I had the portobello mushroom and veggie melt, which came with a small salad and housemade chips. It was okay, but I wouldn't order it again. Most of their desserts are unremarkable- definitely skip the white chocolate banana cream pie. If you go, I would suggest parking on the left side of the restaurant to avoid having to pay for valet. -

Want a classy diner? I never expected a glammed up diner but you've got it here at Buckhead Diner. Spacious and attentive service. Loved the goat cheese fritter appetizer. Fried chicken entree didn't have much flavor but the meatloaf was pretty good. It wasn't dry or soggy - the mushrooms worked well in the meatloaf.
Peach Breaded pudding was very well presented but couldn't taste the Southern Comfort.
My 4 stars really go for the ambience and service :) -

Amazing food and great atmosphere. Blue cheese chips are a must. calamari Asian style, phenomenal. From burgers to over the top entrees, everything is excellent. Brian was awesome; he made our night. Second time here and can't wait to go back. This is a great restaurant, expect the bill to match the quality.

A bunch of coworkers and I ended up here for a late dinner last night, and I had an exceptional entree. I got the crabcakes (large lumps of crabmeat, not too much filling but what was there was tasty, pan fried) and asked for the cheesy grits instead of the whipped potatoes (they were AMAZING- creamy without losing their slightly gritty consistency, had a nice cheesy flavor) and asparagus in a mustard cream sauce.
I also sampled the calamari appetizer- it was a sweet and sour asian take on fried calamari- very different and good.
I also tried the smoked salmon flatbread- which was really flavorful, but the tomatoes looked a little old... they were diced and scattered over the top.
The service was good, and it's really nice inside- don't let the fact that it's called a diner mislead you- it's got lots of pretty shiny wood.
However, I am taking one star off because the other folks I was with thought their whipped potatoes were tasteless, and actually went so far as to leave them on their plates and eat around them. -

The Buckhead Diner has always been one of my Atlanta favorites. The meatloaf and white chocolate banana cream pie NEVER disappoint!
I can only give 4 stars for my brunch today because of a kitchen mistake made. However the manager apologized profusely, fixed the mistake and comped the meal. Mistakes happen... even to BHD! -

Came for a late dinner with a friend. Even at a later hour, there would have been a 90 min wait. After we almost walked out, the host called after us that "we could sit at the chef's counter". So we did. Basically we were sitting on top of the chef's... it was wonderful to watch them work. It was a little hot sitting there, but not horrible.
We enjoyed our meals, classic comfort food, but didn't enjoy the upscale pricing over $100 bucks for 2. The service was impeccable, and we loved the old-timey feel of the place.
I would return, if someone else were paying. I will search the area for a more casual eatery, if I am to be in the area again. -

So, I go in on a dreary rainy Thursday night and am seated immediately and my waiter, hilarious, which instantly improves my mood. Its decorated well and full with hungry persons like myself. I order the potato chips, which is TOO MUCH for two people and very rich. I ordered the crab cakes, which have little to no filler, and cooked to a golden brown. For my side item, I choose the garlic mashed potatoes which were creamy goodness. The meal was very filling and I'm sorry to say, left no room for desserts. No worries, I will be back.

I hadn't been to Buckhead Diner in years, and was happy when this was suggested for a holiday lunch outing. Make no mistake, this is no diner. It is very clearly a mid to upscale dining experience. The service is great and the prices are a lot higher than a typical diner.
I was wearing black pants and the server happily brought me a black napkin as opposed to the white. We were seated in a lovely corner booth. We took our time and had an absolutely lovely dining experience, never once feeling rushed to order or finish and leave. Now for what I had:
Wine- the wine list was varied and there were plenty of choices by the glass. I had a delicious malbec.
Bread- the corn muffins were meh, but the breadstick was great
Blue cheese chips- these are worth every calorie and go great with a glass of wine or a beer. Matter of fact, I wish I had some now!
Meatloaf- at first I wasn't interested in the lamb and mushroom meatloaf, but our server highly recommended it. I'm so glad I tried it because it was great. The veggies that came along with it were crisp. The whipped potatoes were a little bland and needed some salt and pepper to be sure.
Banana cream pie- Despite being James Beard award winning, I thought it was just okay. The slice was huge though.
Overall, I had a fabulous meal. I would try a different dessert next time, otherwise it was perfect. My companions also loved their crabcake entree, though the portion was small. Don't be fooled, although it says crabcakeS, you only get one small one.
I would definitely eat here again, and I look forward to doing so. -

The 2 star is entirely related to the reservation policy or lack there of through Open Table and being told it was more of a priority seating than a reservation.
Seriously.............................
The food was above avg but soooo not worth the dissapointment of having to wait. Next time I will just pay more and go to a top tier place where my time is as valued as the appearence of trendy and exclusive.
Hey somebody has to eat it.........................eventually it was me.
