Great atmosphere but never had good service or anything other than a mediocre meal. No need to return.

It's hard for me to rate this place because the food ranged from Meh to great. There were four of us and 2 of us got pasta dishes and 2 of us got steaks. The streaks were great and the pasta just okay. I personally got the pasta primavera and to me it was under seasoned. It tasted very buttery but bland.I usually don't pick up the salt shaker in restaurants, but I found myself doing it several times. There also could have been more veggie, but they were slightly overcooked anyway. The lobster raviolis were also just so-so. On another note, all the drinks we ordered were very good.

Review from Candi K.
We are always looking for mid-range priced places with a bar in the area...meet Buckeye Tavern! About a mile from the house and very reasonable prices. I was actually very impressed with our service...we were by no means a high profit table (just two of us...one beer, one coke, an appetizer and a sandwich), but our server kept good tabs on us (and was rewarded with a nicer than average tip). It's very country inn feeling...lots of antique-y ness in the corners and the stone walls, but it didn't feel like grandma's house.
Started out with a Blue Moon and a coke, then a plate of the bacon cheddar potato skins. They were very good, but could have used some shredded lettuce (though I can't complain, because potato skins in general seem to be a lost food form in the area). We split a cheesesteak due to local wisdom about portion sizes, and I'm glad we did. The thing was probably on 12", but it looked like 14 and it was piled high. Their marinara sauce has a nice kick to it, and the pepperjack we chose drove it up a notch. We were both too full for dessert, and only had a $20 bill to boot (thanks to a $5 off $25 coupon in a local flier).
We'll definitely be back to try the fuller menu. -

This place is great! They have a very wide variety of food, which made me a little skeptical at first...because I was worried they were trying to be everything to everybody.
We ordered the sampler platter for an appetizer, and it was really good! I don't understand why I can't find a decent buffalo wing in PA (all I have seen are battered deep fried things with no sauce...maybe I'm just not going to the right places) but their wings are pretty good. Potato skins - excellent. Mozzarella sticks...everyone loves mozzarella sticks, right?
I had the chicken pot pie for dinner, since it was Pennsylvania Dutch night. It was really really really good. The portion size was huge, plus it came with two sides. My husband and I could have realistically split it and been completely full.
My husband had the steak colorado or something like that - had lump crab meat on top of it. I tried a bit and it was really good as well.
The waiter kind of disappeared after we got our food, which is really the only reason they are getting four stars. If he had stuck around and continued to be as attentive a he was when we first got there, it would have been perfect.
We will definitely go back again. Their food is delicious, simple and reasonably priced. -

Macungie, PA
A historical building that has changed owners a few times, over the years. Every time owners change, menu tends to change. Now very similar to most area menus. Service good and food good. Has a full bar. Party space upstairs offers a unique setting.

My wife and I ate at The Buckeye Tavern a few days ago and we were pleasantly surprised. I had not been there for several years but will definitely be back soon. Ambience is very nice - service was great and food was excellent! I had the Macungie shortribs which were tender and very tasty. My wife had the Black Diamond steak which was terrific. She doesn't usually order steaks at restaurants because she is often disappointed. She was very happy with her selection and thought it was even better than the local steakhouses. Lastly our waitress was friendly,
helpful and very attentive without being overbearing. -

Better than average selection but at it's heart it's still bar food

My first visit and it was OK but not very good. We came to celebrate my job promotion by rewarding myself with a steak.
Parking was trouble and took us 10 minutes to park
I had the Philly cheesesteak potato skins. They were OK but very indicative of a non-Philly style wannabe. They came covered in marinara even though it did not specify that on the menu. Had I known I would've requested no marinara. I also ordered steamed clams. They were not worth it at all and they had no seasoning or spices... as if they just got them out a steamer and put them on the plate. They were low quality.
For my entrée I had the NY Strip Steak, Yukon mashed potatoes, and green beans. My steak was ordered medium. The steak was terrible. It was very rough, hard to cut, burnt with a black exterior, and not juicy. The edges were well done and the center was straight up rare. No salt/spices/sauce or anything. The green beans and mashed were good but they weren't the main thing I was looking forward to.
My wife ordered Colorado steak (filet mignon with crab meat.) The lump crab meat was very good, but she ordered it medium rare and it came out well done. Her pirogies were left to lay in the steak glaze and it bothered her because it made them soggy.
Service was very slow. We got there around 6:30, didn't wait for a table, and did not leave until 9 despite informing our waitress of time constraints. Our entrées took over an hour for them to prepare. The waitress was VERY forgetful... she forgot to bring out rolls, forgot our forks and knives, forgot plates for the appetizers, forgot the olive oil and steak sauce we requested, and she assumed as a couple that we weren't together on a date. She made numerous prejudice assumptions. She was so bad that another waitress came over just to clear our plates from our appetizers that sat for 30 minutes. This new "fill-in" waitress also even asked us what we ordered so she could check on our entrées.
The beer selection was very macro based, although somewhat broad. They had a few micros, however our waitress couldn't even tell me what they were. I asked what micros they had on tap and she replied Sierra Nevada, Hoegaarten, and Troegs. They also have apparently a special beer from Sam Adams called Buckeye which is really just a Hefeweizen but I didn't try it.
Overall it was OK and I think maybe we just got a bad waitress or came on a bad night. -

Sorry , they know how to take a reservation but they do not know how to hold it . Saturday night past it was a circus there, we left after waiting for a half hour.

The Buckeye doesn't deserve a five star rating for being a slick and polished restaurant for high-class taste. Neither does it deserve a five star rating for grand originality in its menu. It deserves five stars because it delivers on its aim to be a nice local restaurant with a respectable menu and a nice staff with healthy prices. The Buckeye is definitely the local watering hole for many in the Macungie area, but its also where they like to have a nice relaxed family meal or a not overly-casual date. The atmosphere is what you'd expect in a building that's over 270 years old--warm, inviting, but not boring. Last thing to note, the bartenders are great, tip them well.

Party of 3 ate here last night. 2 of us had their Black Diamond skirt steak, which was excellent. Third had some kind of crab thing which he said was very good. All food was good, service good. The pricing was somewhat higher than listed on their website. I like the ambience of this place, especially in the colder months. Rustic, old (very old), warm, etc.. A good place to go for dinner. Not ultra-casual, but certainly not fancy, either. Plastic tablecloths and paper napkins, for example.

Very nice lunch spot, colonial tavern. We had a Chicken Wrap that was delicious and a Thai Salad that my client enjoyed immensely. Service is OK, but early for lunch means a bit of a wait. Worth it, not many options in this area.
