My hubby is a burger aficionado and loves burgers, but I don't. So I usually reluctantly agree to Buck n Loons, because we would eat here every day if he had his way.
A good start is with the fried pickles and jaleps plus their "cheap beer", which is usually Coors Original. It's less than 2 bucks, so there is no reason to complain. The fried pickles get salty after a while, so what better way to wash them down?
If you like greasy burgers, theirs are as big as your face and they are pretty fantastic. If you are vegetarian, then they make their own veggie burgers in-house and they are pretty great too. They sell a "cheap salad" for your frugal side and it's plain jane lettuce with tomato in case you aren't hungry or are saving your appetite for the beer. The fried catfish is always my second choice but If you pay attention to anything at all in this review, then pay attention to this: ORDER THE MEATLOAF! It melts in your mouth and in my humble opinion, there isn't anything better on the menu. It comes with super smooth mashed potatoes as well as bright and crispy steamed veggies that aren't smothered in butter or salt.
I don't have a recommendation for dessert, but I tried their highly touted fried pie and was sorely disappointed, so don't go there. All in all, you leave fat and happy.
This is a good family place, the owners are great, the staff friendly, good food and fair prices.
They have a lunch special M-F, and the menu has everything from huge burgers, chicken fried steak, catfish, salads and such.
Low key fun place to eat..try them.
My husband & I ate here on a Monday afternoon and it was great. The place was quiet and we were on our way out of town. I have many food allergies and the waitress/cooks accomodated my needs. I ordered the 'Citris Chicken' w/no citris sauce or butter, and the meat came out juicy & tender. The veggies were steamed w/no butter or salt. Delicious. I also had a side salad with cucumber, onions, and Balsamic dressing. Very crisp & fresh. My husband said that his bluecheese & jalapeno hamburger & fries were the best he's had in a long time. Our waitress was very friendly & helpful. Needless to say, we gave her a good tip :)
