Cool dive bar for cheap drinks!
If you want to get the good awesome drinks / cocktails, not counting beer, that you can't buy at other places, come here!
I got an Irish Car Bomb for $4! Epic win! Two for $8. I'm down! : D
Had pool tables in the back. I think I saw a dart board there somewhere, lol. -

What can I say, it's right across from rehearsal, of course I'm going to go!
All the pirate art is hilarious, and seriously this is the cleanest dive bar I've ever seen. The pours are big, but if you get straight hard liquor, as I am wont to do, they water it down. I wasn't sure whether to be offended or not when I ordered a Black Label on the rocks and the bartender asked me if I wanted a glass of water as well. First thought: do I look like that much of a lightweight? But I was informed by my friend that lots of people order scotch with a water back. Interesting, I've never been asked before. And seriously, it was watered down so that I hardly needed it. Still a decent pour tho, and since that and my friend's rum & coke were only $8.50 altogether, I ain't complainin.
VERY mixed crowd, which makes for some fun people watching. I enjoy the fact that it's not too loud, and they have non-obnoxious tvs. Pool tables in the back, and smoking patio that I wish they would close the door to - sometimes it smells smoky in the bar (Yes, I'm a spoiled California singer, what do you want from me?) -

As far as neighborhood dive bars go, this place is solid. Cheap stiff drinks, darts, pool table, pirate mural behind bar. It's small and cash only but there's a Chase across the street. And one of the bartenders (his name escapes me but he's usually wearing Izod polos) does card tricks! He's great. Good time when you pack the place with friends!

I really liked this little place. Sierra Madre is like a little mountain community. I felt far out of LA. Little dive bar with darts and CHEAP drinks. Wow 4 bucks for a blue moon in a glass and I bought shots for 6 for a total of 24 bucaroos! Gotta love that

I have lived behind The Buccaneer since 1994 but had only been a handful of times. Due to a DUI earlier this year I had to start looking for a closer place to go so I decided to give The Buc another try. First of all the drinks are dirt cheap. You can get pretty smashed on $20 in this place which is great during this economic depression. Tony the bartender makes the drinks strong. For a dive bar it's pretty clean, the ladies' room always has toilet paper and the smokers still have to go outside (unlike First Cabin in Arcadia). The only reason I give the place 4 stars instead of 5 is the average age is 25. As a 40-something single woman I have nothing in common with guys young enough to be my son. Also the jukebox needs to get rid of Miley Cyrus and put in some hair bands. Def Leppard and Guns 'N Roses will stand the test of time long after Miley goes to Celebrity Rehab for pot addiction. Also all my attractive cougar friends can deal with the youngsters if they put in our music. Pour Some Sugar On Me!

I've only been here once. It made a good impression on me even though I was definitely one of the youngest there. Since I was in the military, people seemed a lot nicer.
Good environment. Everyone there was there to have a good time meaning they weren't there to hook up or get wasted. I hate that. they have a pool table, some tv's etc, but you're better off going there and hanging out with various strangers.
The drinks were awesome and the price wasn't bad. -

So the last, and only, time that I've been here must have been like 3 years ago or so but besides the drinks being cheap everything else about this place was bad. The only reason why I'm reviewing it is I've heard that recently it's become somewhat of a hipster bar. But I really wouldn't know.
Anyways, this bar was filled with 40-50 year olds (probably even older) which I don't mind at all, but they were all d***s. I hate going places where people have a sense of entitlement. Like they belong there more than you do. As soon as we walked in you could feel the eyes watching you.
The bartenders were bad and the customers were even worse. Not a place where I felt comfortable at all. Seemed like I had to constantly watch what I said and made sure I didn't accidentally bump into someone.
During one incident, I went to the bar to get a drink and some old dude had his bar stool titled forward and a drink with a coaster over it. So I get it, that's your spot. Anyways, I go get a drink behind it, and the guy starts getting crazy with me, mentioning that's his spot. I told him I knew and was only getting a drink. Total a**hole. I don't like chains, but I rather go to Lucky Baldwin's. -

So maybe just cuz I have this tiny little age-long pirate fetish, I have always wanted to just set foot in the Buccaneer.
So on a lazy and lovely Sunday afternoon, while others enter a church, I often enter a dive bar. And this day (arrrgh!!), the "Buc" in quaint Sierra Madre it was. While there were no pirates in physical 3D sight, there were many adorning the walls. The sun rays lazily beam through a large front window giving the dim interior quite the cozy atmosphere. Enjoying the sunlight, an older distinguished man lounges at a small table with his newspaper and cocktail and his darling little doggy accompanying him on the adjacent seat. There is a group of young kids at a middle table and two groups of an older crowd conversing at the bar.
The bartender is friendly and has a Brit accent that goes just perfect with the pirate murals on the wall behind her. Makes ya feel like you're at the Renaissance Faire! She answers a call, "Buccaneer!" and ends the conversation by telling the caller, "Oh, you left your walking cane here last night!" I find this amusing, since apparently, much alcohol probably gives this person the magical pirate abilities to walk with out their cane.
The mural on the wall behind the bar entertains me for some time. It is packed with pirates and bare-breasted and half naked wenches in a tavern and on a ship. Blackbeard and friends have portraits on the opposite wall.
My drink was stiff, just the way I like it.
Bands play here.
There is a pool table and a juke box. Bathrooms were clean with a big mirror and full length mirror. Just what we ladies like.Listed in: My Dives

Ill always love this place. You come here when you just wanna hang out and not be fancy. The bartenders are always cool and the drinks...SUPER CHEAP! Even when you order the good stuff. On weekends it gets pretty busy, but during the week, be sure to bring a crew, because its just locals....which are older mountain-esque men :)

Avast! Thar be pirates in Sierra Madre! The "Buc" is a cool little neighborhood dive bar located on the main drag in Sierra Madre. Drinks are CHEAP. Atmosphere is laid back & unpretentious.

When we go to The Buck, as we affectionately call it, the bar is a pit stop on the way to more drinking in L.A. My attraction to this place is the pirate/sailor motif. And if you have the sticky fingers, you are welcome to swipe one of the Newcastle pint glasses.
There's really not a whole lot to review about this place, because it is your typical neighborhood bar. Beers are on tap or in the bottle. And there are cocktails on the menu too. Mostly my nostalgia draws me to mention this bar. The friendly bartenders, the roaring jukebox, the pool table, the tiny restrooms and the good times I've had here.Listed in: Alcoholics-are-none-of-us

Okay... let's be completely honest. This place is the epitome of neighborhood dive bar. The pirate motif is incredibly entertaining and the crowd is just about as entertaining. This place always seems to have people in it though whether it be a random weekday or a weekend.
This isn't somewhere to necessarily go to meet your soul mate... for those in their 20's this would probably be a place to go before you went and ventured out into Old Town or elsewhere. For what it is though it's great and it gives you that small town feel that is usually hard to come by in Southern California. -

This joint excels as what it is and what it should always be. A dive bar filled with local flora and fauna getting sauced at all hours of the day for next to nothing prices. Coming here after a "normal" bar may leave you feeling like you're practically drinking for free, but the glow in the dark pirate boobs will remind you why its cheap. Wait, that should make it MORE expensive. Expect it to be packed, sweaty, and loud on live music nights, and totally dead other nights. Cash only bar, cheap mixed drinks and domestic beer on tap. A definite hometown dive bar.

so, you know.. if the place doesn't have monday night football, and the cocktail waitress isn't all T & A, then it's totally not cool, and you probably wont find the majority of people in pasadena in it. they'll be at the yard house, AGAIN.
and everyone else can go to the Buc. have a beer with some wenches and locals. listen to some adam ant, pixies, bowie, buzzcocks or the damned on the jukebox. or come around on saturdays for live music.
the bartenders are friendly and heavy on the pour, because that's what friendly bartenders do. spark up a conversation with either tony on tuesdays or mike during the weekends, they've got great stories to tell.
there's adequate parking for the bar on either the street or the rear lot, but sierra madre pd is a frequenter around those areas post last call, so be safe, bring a DD.Listed in: notable watering holes

I love this place. The drinks are cheap, the people laid back, and the whole vibe is unpretentious. Yeah, I suppose it's a dive but a great one. I went with the hubs one night when a local (?) band was playing 70's rock. We had a nice evening listening to music and drinking. I recommend this place for anyone looking for a low key evening of drinks that won't break your budget!

When I went here in the early 90's, it was the place to go if you "partied" (and those of you who "did/do", know what I mean!). I broke off my engagement with my ex-fiance' (um, duh) here, so it doesn't hold the best memories for me. Sierra Madre's a weird town, so what do you expect?!

This is a dive bar located in a cute old town neighborhood like Downtown Covina or Uptown Whittier. The drinks are cheap. It is very small but that doesnt stop them from having live entertainment where the frontman of the band is literally 3 ft from your table. I love the cheesy pirate decor.

My friend, a Sierra Madre native, refers to this place as a "townie" bar, which indeed it is. I've been the Bucc a handful of times now and really wished that it was closer to the SFV. Weeknights are always enjoyably "low-key", which perhaps is a nice way of saying they're pretty empty. My friend and I, both in our early 20s, are usually the youngest patrons by a good 20 years. And even though I recognize my fair share of regulars, I haven't made enough trips to the Bucc to declare myself among them (unfortunately). The weekends, however, are a different story completely. They usually have live music and the place gets pretty packed with more than just the older locals. It becomes almost a little punk rock, with younger 20-somethings in hipster attire pouring in for the cheap drinks and a band that appropriates pretty much the whole seating area for their set. It definitely gets loud and crowded but is still a lot of fun, with a good mix Buccaneers both old and young. A game of pool is generally pretty impossible to play on the weekends, though, so if that's an essential to your bar experience, try this place on a less cramped school-night.
