I can not stop raving about this diner. They are BY FAR the best diner in NYC (yes, all of NYC)...and I've been to quite a few. FIRST, the staff is great. Very friendly and good service. They're always smiling and attentive. They remember me when I walk in and already know what I'm going to order. SECOND, the food is incredibly fresh. I never ever had a bad salad there. They use good fresh green leaf lettuce (not tasteless iceburg). The vegetables are steamed and not over seasoned or swimming in oil. As a health coach I'm very particular and I've always been able to eat very healthfully here. THIRD, the price is right. They dont skimp on the portions and I dont feel like I've been robbed in the end FOURTH, they are very clean and well organized, what I order is what I order and no surprises.....I sometimes go out of my way to go to Buccaneer because I now have less tolerance for other greasy spoon diners. At times I'm there as often 3 times a week. Darn great place and I highly recommend it. Good job Buccaneer. Keep up the good work!!

Great Diner! Probably the best in Queens. Order the fisherman's platter one of their best dishes. Lobster tail, stuffed clams, stuffed shrimp, stuffed filet of sole, then come the side dishes...

I have been going to the Buccaneer diner since I was a kid. It used to be across the street where Walgreens is now...yeah that's taking a stroll down memory lane.

The food is awesomely priced and dinner/lunch specials are great. My faves are the Roumanian steak and eggs for a brunch meal and the surf n turf for dinner with a Greek salad. The Roumanian steak is super tender and juicy strip steak marinated to perfection with your choice of eggs. Most mornings they have fresh cut fruit salad as part of their breakfast special (also very yummy)

We love John he is a long time waiter and somehow no matter what time we go he is always there! I think he has a cot in the back! He always has extra feta and olives for our salads ready for us.

They have cozy booths and larger tables in the rear for larger parties. (We are anywhere on average from 2-6 people when we go) The booths still have jukeboxes in them even though the decor is up to date.

Classic diner! Big menu, good prices, huge portions, good staff. Better food than you usually see in a diner.

Been going there for a lot of years now, whether it's pancakes, a good burger platter (theirs is very good) or stuffed flounder dinner with friends.
Excellent place if you have kids.

Not white linen and french cooking, just good food and a pleasant clean place.

I hesitate reviewing this place, because I kind of want to keep it my little secret!

What I love about this place is that it's real. Eclectic, yes, but real. The food is good, the prices are good, the service is good. Your table has a personal jukebox so you can jam to Beyonce as you eat your breakfast. And I'm so curious about that little alcove stocked with all kinds of potent potables. I never get a chance to sample it, as I'm usually here for breakfast before a flight, but someday...

Buccaneer Diner is a snazzy diner (more like full blown restaurant) in Astoria that will leave you with a smile on your face and a full belly.

Large menu (with a few confusing price mix ups) including daily specials. Prices are good for the incredibly large amounts that you're given. I had a BLT with cheese fries and my friend Alyssa had a rueben that she claimed to be the best rueben she had ever eaten. My daughter had the kids grilled cheese and fries that came with a drink and choice of jello or ice cream for dessert.

The entire staff, from the management, to the servers, to the bus boys, were incredibly friendly and made us laugh and smile the entire meal. I would make a point to return.

Been wanting to go here and haven't had the chance.  Saturday we ordered in and YES they deliver!  We were worried about it being cold by the time the delivery guy got here on his bike and to our amazement it was very hot!
We had an omelette.  Tasty it was!!!  The salsa on the eggs was just great with the right amount of spice.

We will go to the diner sometime.  Their King Crab and Steak looks great!!

    Happy Eating!

Friendly staff and fast service.  Not much to say.  Ordered the farmers omelette.  It's 3 eggs with ham and sausage inside and half a plate of home fries.  Good toast with lots of melted butter.  Portion was so big that I couldn't even finish it.  I don't mean this in a bad way, but I did feel like I was in foreign country sitting in there.  Cool name as me and my brother do have an affection for pirates.

Decent local diner in an otherwise boring side of town.

What's NYC without your classic diner?

The Buccaneer DIner -Restaruant in the East Elmhurst area of Queens is right on Astoria Boulevard. It has it's own parking lot, which is nice, although signs encourage you "to not play your music loud".

It is actually pretty high-tech looking, with gleaming stainless looking decor and a very polished and clean look, not your typical diner that you see on Seinfeld.

They have a huge menu, with all the usual suspects you would expect in a diner. But it is a slightly  upscale, because they don't just have Farmer's Coffee, they offer Espresso, Cappucino, other exotic international coffees, even exotic cocktails like frozen Daiquiris and Pina Coladas (no making love in the dunes of the Cape, that is enemy Boston territory, not New York!).

We had a party of five and we all had something different for dinner. We split fried Calamari first, which wasn't that great, as the squid seemed frozen and a bit tough.

My Salmon dinner was a little different. It was served with skin and grilled a little too much, looking more like a cheap tlat steak from Sizzler's than Salmon. But the taste was ok.. It was servied with green mashed potatoes (WTF? Food coloring for your mash potatoes? It wasn't like it was St Patrick's Day!) sitting atop some sauteed mushrooms. It came with a salad, which was quite large, and plenty of bread in the beginning. That was a daily special, for about $17.

Everyone else got very full, but not necessarily completely satisfied.  The crowd is very mixed, from Caucasians, to Asians, to Hispanics, to African Americans, young and old.

For a Diner in Queens, It is an attractive  place (on the inside) with decent food, but nothing to write home about. Service was good.

Came here on a crowded Sunday. Superbowl Sunday morning actually around 11:15am. Seating took about 5minutes. I was seated in a booth by the kitchen door but my waiter came quickly to the table and immediately asked about beverages.
Wait time (after having difficulties ordering because they don't have additional prices if I wanted to add a extra piece of bread or a extra piece of Bacon) was 30mins. The food was great! Flavor was on point and so was the temperature. Low prices and good food.

From the skinny, in her mid-60's-but-could-kick-your-a**-in-a-knife-fight, waitress to the Formica and steel walls, the Buc is almost all you could want in a classic diner.

The hubby actually taunts me when he has to lay-over at LaGuardia by calling and saying "I'm eating at the Buc." It's not that the food is overwhelmingly fantastic, it's just that the Buccaneer is everything a diner should be. The portions are large, the coffee is *really* good, and the service is to-the-point and speedy. The Buc offers food comfort  and atmosphere like a diner should.

The Belgian waffles, challah french toast, omlettes, homefries, and quintessential bagels & lox are winners. American portions that can fuel you all day long for a reasonable price.

The other cool feature about the Buc is it's location in Queens. It's a simple, neighborhood diner...not on the Zagat's list or a "must do NYC tourist stop", but a neighborhood fixture, tucked away in a corner parking lot. It's local and homey and if you like hearing a good NY brogue, rapid Spanish, or the occasional Greek...it's an aural heaven as well.

The Buccaneer is a treasure worth digging up if you have some time to kill and don't mind taking a walk through Queens while on a long LaGuardia/Marine Terminal layover.

I've been to this diner before and I always tell myself "I'm never going back there". But lastnight I got home late and needed take out ASAP. I didn't make the decision on menu, so I can't say it's my fault that I hate this place.
The young lady who took the order over the phone MAY have been born half retarded, WHICH IS FINE. But please don't have a half retarded person taking phone orders. The whole phone call was in slow motion, or so it felt.

    We ordered the following:

-6 chicken wings, extra blue cheese and hot sauce on the side
half retarded's reply: the wings don't have hot sauce on them.

    breath
OK! That's fine...can you just put it on the side?

    -moz. stix
    no issues there

-a hot roast beef sandwich with melted moz. cheese on a toasted roll.
half retarded's response: it doesn't come on a roll

    breath
ok that's fine.. can you PUT it on a roll?

Hold on....(hold on??).....yeh ok it comes on a roll

    WOW!

We then asked how much it was. MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!! Half retarded kept us on hold for ATLEAST 2 minutes....

    breath

The food took about 45 minutes to get to an apt. building 3 blocks away. The delivery man, who was also the cook by the looks of his outfit, was in the basement of a building 3 blocks away. He kept calling from the building 3 blocks away. Did I mention he was 3 blocks away??
Needless to say, the food got there cold and I was pissed. Half retarded wrote 84th street, when I live on 81st. That's 3 blocks away.

    Never again...

A kind friend (Thanks, Mike!) took me here on a Sunday morning before my noontime flight. The decor is old, but is reminiscent of diners of the past...so I guess change isn't necessarily a good thing. The pancakes were decent - not the best tasting but the portion was well-suited.

I should've had the sausage instead of the bacon, since the former (ordered by my friend), was rather huge. My bacon was just ordinary.

To tell you how valued this place apparently is...there was a kid's birthday party in the other side of the restaurant!

...kinda like "Denny's" grandfather...very old school and worn out...

I came here at around 4:00 a.m. It wasn't too busy, so the service was cool.
I ordered the Fajita Chicken Omelette (with bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, and cheddar cheese)...It came with a side of "hash-brown" potato chunks and toast.  Perfect sized-portion!

I'm going back if I ever fly in to LaGuardia...

This diner is right by my house and I like ordering from here once in a while and when i come home from a night of partying.  My fav are the silver dollar pancakes, chicken tenders and mozarella sticks are pretty good. Nice portions of entrees. Food overall is pretty good, and service is good too. I don't usually stay to eat I just order to pick up ( they don't deliver, which sucks).  I'll continue coming here as long as I live near by ;-).

What else could you want out of your local diner?  The menu is gigantic, the portions large, the service quick, and the coffee good.  It is pretty much locals only (who the heck travels for a diner?), but there are always people inside.  If you happen to have some time to kill at LGA, walk the few blocks up to Astoria Blvd and gorge yourself . . . Way better than airport food!

Came here for a late night snack. It was one of the few restaurant located near LGA that was still open at 11pm. A few of us stopped by on Monday Movie night... they just play movies in the diner area all night long. Some recent movies that even the staff enjoyed watching.

I saw the previous description of '"Denny's" grandfather...very old school and worn out...' which is pretty much how I would describe it, except Denny's doesn't have a shelf of Alcohol in the back and the feel is less commercial. I got the cheeseburger deluxe which is a combo with criss cross fries which I enjoy. It was $9 +T&T. You could probably spend between $6 and $15 on most dishes here. The food wasn't the spectacular, but it was open and very chill with ample parking.

it seems like there are a lot of mixed reviews of this place, but in my opinion, i really like it here, and it's the only diner i'll go to in the area. it's also a diner that i've been consistently going to for the past several years. i don't think their food is bad, and i sure don't think their service is bad either. some of the employees have been working there their entire lives -- that has got to say something. i'm telling you, there's something special about this place...can't quite put my finger on it.

I've been going to this diner ever since it was called the Buccaneer Diner. Yes, I am a native of East Elmhurst and those of us who've lived in the neighborhood for decades claim it as our own.  Without being biased (because the diner really does "belong" to "us"!!! LOL), the food really does surpass other diners I've visited.  I love the grilled Salmon over tossed salad. The wings, the wraps, etc. everything is great.  And might I add that the opening salad which comes with most entrees is ALWAYS fresh with an assortment of greens and fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. I've been to so many places, including "real restaurants" with iceberg lettuce or just a few variations of greens. The food is restaurant quality with diner atmosphere and service -- including the loud, talkative waitress. The real upside is that they deliver--they didn't always deliver, but this new piece of info was welcome. Note they do NOT deliver after 9pm, as I discovered one hungry night at 9:20 pm....... However, no matter how late I'm getting back to my neighborhood, I can call ahead from my cell and my food is ready for pickup.  Their drinks can be spotty, though.  I'm not a "drinker" but I do love a pina colada every now and then.  A Monday night pina colada was awful and I had written off pina coladas at "my" diner.  I was convinced to try one on a Thursday evening though and it was much better. Their food is pretty consistent, why can't their pina coladas be the same way???

Been going to this diner since the 90's but more so lately since I moved to the neighborhood only 3 blocks away in mid-2000.  The food is always delicious and fresh, and service is great!  I've tried pretty much a little of everything in their menu, and haven't been disappointed yet.  They have a lot of variety too - from American to Italian to Greek, etc.  Burgers are big & juicy and always cooked the way you want 'em.  Their fried calamari is awesome - always consistently served in big chunks (not tiny lil' frozen pieces) and fried to a golden crisp but not oily.  I always ask them to make it extra crispy though ('coz that's just how I like 'em).  Trust me, their calamari is better than a lot of high end over-rated seafood restaurants out there!  What else can I say?.... great selection of foods and good prices!  Love Buccaneer!  It's become a staple restaurant for me and my husband, we go there at least once a week.  And by the way - he's a huge foodie and he absolutely loves this place more than I do!  Need I say more?... ;P
