Amazing! I'm such a fan.
Only $10 to replace 2 brake lights! AND it only took 10 minutes! No joke, seriously. They're also open until 8 - which is a HUGE bonus. And, the man who helped me was super, super friendly. He even assured that I was backing out onto a clear street...as opposed to leaving me to get into an accident. Nice.
Ya see, I came from Jiffy Lube - who had the audacity to want to charge me $12 PER BULB. Are you serious? Rip-off, totally. I plan on coming back to Bucaro for more of my car needs. (And I'm sure I'll have them. Let's be honest.) -

I had a VERY bad experience at Bucaro Brothers. I went in to get my brake pads changed, and was told that I needed almost $1000 worth of work done on my car, which other than needing new brake pads, was running well.
Of course, when you get an estimate that high for work you've never heard of, you should have it checked out by another shop. I took it to the dealership. They told me that none of the repairs suggested by Bucaro Bros made any sense. I have a feeling that they saw a young woman who may not know anything about cars and tried to take advantage of me. They obviously have no idea who they were dealing with!Listed in: Do You Wanna Ride in my…

I've been using Bucaro Brothers since I moved to Chicago and have never had a problem. Oil changes are cheap ($23 while most are $30) and fast (about 30 minutes). I've taken the car in two or three times for repair and have never been sold repairs other than exactly what was wrong with the car. Their service is fast, their prices are standard (but never excessive), and they are all around nice guys.
I've considered taking the car Ashland Tire & Auto (a Lakeview auto shop that has rave reviews on Yelp), but they always have a wait of at least two days and no parking (besides street). Bucaro Brothers have always provided same or next day service and they let you drop it off whenever you want. They also provide their own tower ($65 where most Chicago towers will charge $80+) and will drive you home if you live within 5 miles or so of the shop. -

I never had work done on my car in Chicago up until my check engine light had been on for several weeks. Bucaro is relatively close to where I work so I thought it would be convenient to try them.
I took my car in one night 3 hours prior to their closing for them to check out my light and mind you, I had called earlier in the day to tell them I was coming, the man who was working the desk was not approachable whatsoever and very bluntly said there was no way for them to look at it that night and they would the next morning. I was hesitant, but left my car and did not hear from them until I called them myself at 4pm the next day. Still hadn't looked at it. 5:30 I got a call that I needed new spark plugs, wires and a coil for a ridiculously high quote of $430! I knew right then I wasn't going to have them work on it - that price is quadruple what it should be!
Later that night I went to pick it up. He tried to charge me a fee for looking at it which I managed to get out of. He showed me the damaged wires and I agreed I needed them changed, but there was no way I would pay that much and at this point, I really didn't trust this guy at all. Took my car and got a call the next day: "Our mechanic realized he left a plug tester in your car...sorry, could you bring it back in and we'll take it out?" I was shocked and confused as to how the hell this could happen because it is not good to be driving around with your spark plugs not attached and can cause major damage to lots of other things. 2 days later, I noticed the lever for my trunk/gas beside the hood lever inside my car was broken off, probably from them trying to open the hood..? who knows...
Long story short, I ended up having people (family) I could TRUST work on my car, and installed new plugs and wires on the street for $55 in parts. Finished. Check engine light is off and the car is running much better.
Bottom line: These guys are careless and a disgrace to all decent mechanics. -

I had brakes and rotors which I had bought myself installed by these guys. Very nice waiting area...apart from one of the brother's chain smoking fouling up the air. The result was a disaster which in the end cost me $200 extra at another European car repair shop. They said they were familiar with European cars and had a euro car mechanic. Total lie, I had a constant ABS break light on, they took my car apart and said it was the sensors and that I needed new sensors. I went for a 2nd opinion and found I didn't need new sensors, it turned out that my rotors and brakes were simply misaligned. They were such jerks about the whole thing that I ended up filing a complaint with the state.
If you have a pretty common Japanese, Korean or American car. I think these guys would be a safe bet, but if you have any of the European or luxury cars, go somewhere else!
***EDIT-apparently there is a new owner who emailed me apologizing. So perhaps there's a new start for this place. -

I've had work done at Bucaro over the past few years.. and I've even talked to a lot of people who have visited Bucaro Brothers in Lincoln Park.- they also definitely did not have the experiences that some of these reviewers had (besides Martin C. I guess)... They only had good things to say about this place. They took care of them and even did some work for free.
...so I guess the saying is true.. when a person has a "bad" experience they love to tell everyone they know and make posts and reviews on internet sites like yelp.. but when they have a good one, they tell very few people..
This is not the "cheap" chop shop.. they do charge a bit more than other places.. but they do the work right the first time.
One of the reviewers (B.V) said that the part failed.. now, how is that their fault?? that's a manufacturer defect.. not labor related at all!
Angie M. said that they quoted her too much and that the "trusted" stealer-ship didn't think they had quoted her the right repair... Sure.
Anne didn't like that they were busy and couldn't work on her car. How is that bad? That's not their fault.
These reviewers have a weird way to judge.
I highly recommend going to Bucaro Brothers. It's a super clean, high quality auto repair shop that definitely fits perfectly into the Lincoln Park area.
High end work for an up-scale neighborhood.
Stop in and see for yourself. You won't regret it. -

I had been reccomended to try out Bucaro Brothers by a lady i met at a nail salon; I looked them up and decided to go there for a transmission flush, oil change. The work was prompt and efficient then, though perhaps a bit high. I wasn't sure on the pricing standards, however, so I decided to again go to bucaro's. This time, however, my experience was HORRIBLE.
I had been in a car accident, and did not have collision insurance. I emphasized to the proprietor the little amount of money I could pay, and how important it was to fix the bare minimum. He gave me a estimate that was about 2500 dollars. I argued and argued, and yet the best claim he gave me still was 1800 dollars to fix my car. Frustrated, I called around and found a mechanic who could fix my car adequately and efficiently for about 1000 dollars, and did not insist on nearly on the repairs that Bucaro did.
I am sure that Bucaro brothers does adequate work, but they overcharge excessively and are rather unreasonable in this regards. My extreme frustration with them during the duration of this experience has definitely convinced me that I won't be going back there for anything ever again, not even for a routine procedure for my car. Not worth the aggravation. -

WOW!!!!! that's all i have to say.....
or maybe i'll say a little bit more. This place reminded me of this billboard I'd seen a while, and was thinking it could never be true (http://www.values.com/...). well, looks like it could:
took my car here cos it needed some work. A friend recommended the team at Shell on Wrightwood, and after looking around for that non-existent team, found they had relocated here. I called first, were very friendly over the phone. spoke to OKAN (who apparently must be the nicest car mechanic on this planet). He gave me a time estimate, and kept his word on that. Prices were VERY reasonable, charged just under the quote he initially gave, which is rare in this industry, and was very timely. I WILL DEFINITELY COME BACK..... (only if i need to, though;-))
On another note, I think the previous reviews are not truly reflective of the current staff and management, as they moved there recently. -

These guys went above and beyond when I brought in my volvo. Besides installing new brakes and an oil pan with parts I provided(which most places wouldn't do because of deals with their distributors), they charged me the exact price they quoted over the phone while also doing some extra work on my car. They fixed my car hood(which had some latch trouble) and a side panel that was starting to fall off, without me inquiring. I was pleasantly suprised.
