Had an early dinner here tonight with my Mother-in-Law. We're both in town because my husband had open-heart surgery at the U this week, and we thought we'd take some time to have a nice dinner & relax. Neither of us had been to a Buca before.
We drove around a bit, and finally decided to use the valet for $4. We made reservations through the Yelp app on a smartphone.
Sam was our server, and we can't say enough nice things about him. When he asked "What are you celebrating tonight?" we told him about the surgery and the stress we had felt. It turns out that he had some experience with cardiac patients! Imagine that! He helped guide us through the menu. We chose to have the Shrimp Florentine and it was delightful! We both loved it.
We'll be in town again for hubby's kidney transplant, and we plan to celebrate here after that too. -

I really like all Buca di Beppo's in general. Food is good and comes in huge portions! I personally prefer the Midvale location as it doesn't get as crowded as this one downtown. If you come on a weekend night you'll definitely have to wait a good 30 minutes to 1 hour. Sometimes (?) they take reservations over the phone, but I think they decide that depending on how busy they are. Parking is very tight too. Plan on walking off your big belly full of yummy pasta after eating, or use the valet parking right at front.
I recommend the sangria... ohsoyummy.
Worth the wait if you have the time though :) -

If you've been to one Buca di Beppo you've been to them all just like any other chain restaurant....
.... but this one get's 4 stars from me because they have a bar! In Utah!
Why is this a big deal? Because if you're trying to eat downtown on a Friday night and you are by yourself, none of the other restaurants around have a bar for you to eat solo... you'll be stuck waiting for a table with all the parties of 2+. Buca to the rescue! Sit down right away and start dining before the 30 people ahead of you waiting for a table.
Solo diners tip: You can order normal size portions off the lunch menu when you eat at the bar! -

I could look at the walls all day long, but I would pay NOT to eat here.

Tour of the kitchen before seated is the way all restaurants should start. I was taken back by the high cost. Ordering family style is nice, but italian food is cheap to make. We came because of a coupon, but that didn't soften the blow on price. Food was ok as for taste. Bread could be better. Seasoning is bland. Atmosphere was nice. I would not consider returning unless prices were better.

I've eaten at Buca di Beppo a few times and even hosted a business event there. It is a fun restaurant with a family-style feel and lots of "crazy crap" on the walls as Uncle Moe (from the Simpsons) would say. You remember that episode? There are some really fun and crazy photos and decorations throughout the restaurant. My favorite room is the Pope room with photos of Catholic Popes around the restaurant and a bust of the Pope in the center of the table.
Anyway, Buca di Beppo is more than just decorations, it's also about FOOD and lots of it! Buca di Beppo serves up classic Italian dishes in family-style portions that are great for sharing. Come hungry and bring some friends because there's always a lot to eat.
My one compliant, and the principal reason for my 3 star rating is the food. Although it is good Italian food it is rather bland in my opinion. That's my taste anyway. Definitely needs something like red pepper to spice it up!
For the bargain hunter Buca di Beppo regularly offers coupons and discounts. Look for them. -

The 'Family' style feel of this restaurant is awesome! The feel, the photos! I was in love! The meals are served 'Family' style in portions for 2-4 people(a must know when ordering!) Great for feeding large groups like family gatherings! Our group had the house fav salad, Chicken with homestyle potatoes, and for dessert...Cheesecake! Chicken was moist, potatoes creamy & cheesecake was melt in your mouth!
And if you scan your mail coupons occasionally you find a coupon for this old world style fav...
Now the downside :( I attended the Downtown restaurant so be prepeared for meter parking, parking lot parking, or depending on the hour a little walk to reach your destination...but the atmosphere and food will definitely make up for the parking! Remember your quarters!!! -

We went here with half of our daughters soccer team. It is always nice to find a place that can accommodate a large group. They were able to handle our group of 17 with ease on a Friday night.
What impressed me the most was the fact that our server didn't let us order too much food. With the family style dining, a lot of servers would have allowed us to order too much food in order to increase the check total. We ordered 2 large entrees, a pizza, salad and 2 appetizers. It was just enough for 7 adults and 10 kids.
The food was mediocre with the exception of the calami which was really good. The check was around $240 which included cocktail and drinks.
We will be back with the whole team and see how they do with a group of 40+. Considering the large group, Buca di Beppo was A-OK! -

Ask yourself: Do you love authentic Italian food? If the answer is yes, then you may need to prepare yourself to be underwhelmed. If you answered that you love Spaghetti Factory, then prepare to be wowed!
I love their salads and appetizers. The rest of the menu is your normal stuff and is good enough.
On the down side - their sea food dishes are always too fishy. Gross.
Fun for families and group events! If you are going with just one other person, you can order off the lunch menu no matter what time you go in. -

Buca di Beppo is most known for their family style Italian offerings. This is a gift and a curse. Great spot for a large crowd as their portions are massive, but what about the single diner or the indecisive couple?
The number of Thanksgiving dining options were few. Buca was one of the spots that was open. After visiting Little America and noticing the massive crowds, I ventured to Buca instead.
The place was fairly quiet. I had a quiet early dinner at the bar. I was concerned initially about Buca's reputation. Especially when several of their small menu selections feed up to three. That sounds like food overkill to me. Fortunately, they have a "lunch" menu served all day tailored to the single diner. Thank goodness.
Had a cup of minestrone soup ($3.45). the oven-roasted salmon ($12.99) and a glass of sangria ($4.99).
Overall, I was not impressed. The minestrone soup was garden fresh, but the flavor was not the best. The pasta also seemed a little hard, instead of firm. Though I actually would have preferred if it was mushy.
The oven-roasted salmon was good. But the rest of the dish was not. Tasted overindulgent. The pesto cream was too much. I like pesto, but some moderation of its use in this dish would have improved it. I would also liked to have seen this dish paired with some pasta. Perhaps linguine or fettuccine. It would help soak up the pesto cream a bit.
The sangria was enjoyable, though not very potent. Fine by me. But without the booze, it is essentially fruit punch. Given the lack of options on Thanksgiving in SLC, Buca was okay. But I could not see myself visiting when there are so many other appealing options in the area. Honestly, I would rather eat at the Olive Garden down the street.Listed in: Nom Nom Nom-ing in Utah

Went here for lunch, great menu and portions are still big. I forgot how good the food is, better than Olive Garden. You can add a salad or a soup for 99 cents, a deal! They have Peroni on draft too! Thats impressive. Service was good and attentive. Parking is a headache tho. I do recommend this place for casual Italian.

Lot's of food, nice servers, good place for a large gathering."Average" defines the food, almost non-existent wine list. Don't go for an intimate dinner or unique food.

HUGE portions! I love the way the place is decorated. I am a fan of everything I ate. This would be the perfect place to take a large group of people. We had the Baked Rigatoni, the Lasagna, the Spaghetti with fist sized meatballs. We had the sampler platter appetizer. For dessert we had the Colossal Brownie Sundae. DO NOT let the picture fool you, this dessert is HUGE.

In case you haven't heard, small in Buca means large. So if you are going over there to dine alone, then your next 3 meals are going to be Italian.
Anyway, the last time I was there, the food was average, too greasy. The wait staff seemed reluctant to come to our table and were not particularly friendly. It was around 9 pm on a weekday and there were just a handful of patrons.
Also, there are way too many pictures hanging on the walls. I found it disturbing. I don't think I will be going back again. -

Can't figure out why this place doesn't do better business in SLC - their specialization is FAMILY style dining with enormous, shared portions of food. It's an incredible value for large families dining out that it doesn't make sense why everyone seems to flock to Olive Garden instead.
Overall, food is average to above average, but it is an incredible deal, and has much better atmosphere and customer base than what you'll find at the Olive Garden. -

Service was great , had biz lunch meeting. Upstairs is great especially if you are hosting visitors from overseas (my gusts from asia loved the place)
Food was okay, could be better. we ordered some pasta lunch special. The artichoke was missing and had to really dig in the bowl to locate them. Eggplant was excellent though.
Location is somewhat tough you are driving in, they don't have valet so stret parking only. -

Awesome food and even better atmosphere! The inside reminds me of being inside your Italian friends Grandmas house. It's very classy and comfortable. I like how the hostess walks you through the kitchen for a brief tour before you are taken to your seat.

I guess I'm getting more 'picky' as I write more reviews and see the graph on the left.
This place was perfectly fine. Food was decent and prepared well. I thought a $7 glass of house wine was a bit much. I also thought the decor was more of a pizza place feel...maybe that's what they went for but didn't really do anything for me. -

Food was good, value-for-money; notsomuch.
$25 for the large serving of spaghetti & meatballs...ok, their food cost for that had to be, maybe, maybe $6. Caprese was as good as you can get for trying to get tomatoes in Utah in May. The spicy arrabbiata pizza was excellent; flavorful sausage and superb thin crust.
Place was clean, service was attentive, atmosphere was fun. -

We seem to have made Bucas a part of our road trip tradition- every time we go out to camp in Yellowstone we go via SLC (nice place), stay in the Motel 6 (getting worse each year sadly) and go to Buca's...
It was admittedly my first Buca's experience out here but it has always been enjoyable. The usual huge servings, decent prices, tasty bruschetta, good menu range if not overly varied.
Porcheta rustica was great, different type of dish but quite tasty. The pastas are sometimes overly oily/greasy, even for Italian but mostly quite good.
Service has been good each time we visit, mostly quite on weeknights so not sure about the weekend trade. -

All I can say is YUM! Bucca di Beppo's never fails to dissapoint. From their full bar, family sized entree's, tast dessert, excellent service, and old world decor, Bucca di Beppo is guarantee's to please anyone's pallet, or craving for Italian food.

Had a group of 30 people here last night for a dinner. Great time. Food was good and fresh. Servers were on top of it. Large groups are normally a disaster but this went off great. We had 4 different salads, appetizers and 3 main dishers. Everything was good. They charged us $10 corkage per bottle for the wine we brought which is pretty normal.

Food was very average, nothing great here.
What really ticked me off was the rude service the second time we went there. We sat for about 10 minutes with no one coming to our table to wait on us. The bartender then asked a waiter of he would wait on us... He glanced to wards us and said no. All within earshot !!!!!
I don't know what that was all about, we were polite, tipped adequately on our previous visit. I'm not going to trust these people with my food and they are not going to get my business.
There are better places close by, PF Chang's across the street has great food and they know how to treat a customer. -

We took out two business clients to this restaurant in Salt Lake City and the service was very poor. I have been several times in the Chicagoland area and have always had top notch service. Our total bill was around $200.00 for 6 people so I expected some good service. It took over an hour and a half to get our food and the only thing that came fast was the bill. We have no problem waiting for food but this is not acceptable. I wrote a note on the credit card receipt for a manager to call me but never received a call. Very disappointed seeing I talked the place up to my client.
Food was good but cold by the time we got it. At least the beer was cold! -

While in SLC on business, a large group of us came here for dinner. We were able to get a semi-private room (there were almost 30 of us). While I've never been a fan of large group dinners, the members of our group made up for this, as did our server. She quickly learned the only way to do her job with our crowd was to jump right in to make herself heard. She was effective as well as helpful. Portions are large, as others have noted. The food is OK. They have yet to learn the use of garlic as a subtle flavor enhancer. Was it horrible? No. Particularly with a large group; it was an ideal place...the family style menu meant ordering food for a large group wasn't time consuming. At the end of the dinner, we all agreed to meet here again, so that says something!

Going in a group? Great place to go. Value in the amount of food you get and sharing many entrees. Dining for one? Skip this place. Portions are huge. Food is decent. You will get much better at other places in Salt Lake. They used to have a menu for one or two people, but they discontinued that about a year ago.

If I could give 2 1/2 stars, I would. We went on a Monday night with a group of seven. We each ordered a different thing and shared. Buca is decent food and lots of it. I wouldn't say it's great, but I think most people, including me, go for the kitchy decor. I had a great time but it was the company not the restaurant. I would go again but Buca is just okay. Okay food, Okay service.

Good food. Not too expensive.
One item can feed 4 people.
Two people- order off the lunch menu for less food (a good thing) and less cost (another good thing). Not to worry you'll still get too much to eat.
Laid back attitude.
Good for casual dining. -

little heavy on the flair but nice for a low key lunch -

Very large portions. We ordered off the lunch menu which is available always and the portions were what you would receive for dinner at other restaurants. We each ordered different meals and loved them all. No hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

If you have a large group - ask for the pope table. Nothing better than having the pope in the center of a lazy susan and watching people battle over not having the pope stair at them while they eat. That and it is typically the best most intimate table for a table of 8
