valet parking wasn't that bad. $2.50, I can live with that.  the server was super nice to our party of seven.

the food was way more than enough, actually very good, and hot.

all the servers came out to sing happy birthday and the whole place jumped in with clapping and cheers.

    really good experience.

I've never been to this place until recently, and I guess it is one of a chain.
Roudy little Italian family restaurant, great for large groups.. be ready to soak in the cheesy overkill of everything Italian.. in a fun, silly way.
Was $20 for a family portion of pasta with a -$10 coupon (that I found online)
James was a fantastic server and was very enthusiastic and attentive to our dining needs.
and yes, the place requires valet parking unless you can manage to snag one of a few street spots available.

    Bellissimo!

This huge chain is only best visited if you have either 1. A special occasion. 2. A large group. Or 3. Have a cheesy sense of humor and enjoy the overkill of Italian decor.

If you're just feeling like Italian and happen to stroll by this restaurant during the dinner rush, expect to wait - and wait a while you shall. It's fun for a big group. The waiters get really into it, if it's your birthday. The food, ah, the food. Bountiful. And that's an understatement. You're going to be walking out of this restaurant 5lbs heavier. It's good.... But I've had better Italian.

Otherwise, count me in for the cheesiness of it all.

Came here recently for another birthday. Service was terrible. The food was mediocre; we had the fried calamari, antipasto salad, the veal parm, the eggplant parm, and baked ravioli. The highlight was the calamari.

In addition, parking... valet parking? Are you serious? You can find plenty of parking nearby.

This review was prompted by the slow service (kept forgetting stuff, did not check up on us, etc.), like most of the reviews here.

I love cheesy stuff, which leads to loving Italian food. YUM. Bf finally took me to this restaurant last night. Big portions, just ordered small place of Spicy Chicken Rigatoni, which I LOVED (loved hint of spicy) and seafood platter. It was enough for both of us.

Service wise---eh. It was alright. But I loved the decor and food. I will be going back :)

The weird, and I mean weird thing about Buca di Beppo is that you enter through the kitchen area. My BF told me that this is typical at Buca di Beppos. WEIRD! You can also elect to sit near the kitchen here.

The decor is very eye catching. They have all sorts of pictures and things all over. They have a pope themed dining room haha! The wacky decor is cool. It seems like a place that would have somewhat cool ambience when it's full but it was pretty empty the night we came.

We ordered the Caneloni, Fettucini Alfredo and a Gorgonzola Cranberry Salad. We also got some garlic bread.

    Everything was pretty meh....

The Caneloni were cooked unevenly. Some parts were over baked. They were not very tangy. Same for the fettucini. Not a very tangy and cheesy flavor to it. The salad was probably the best thing but the vinaigrette was not even close to the best I have ever had. The Gorgonzola cheese was very good!

Service was very good. Our waiter was very attentive. I feel bad for him because they brought me a plate with some morsels of god knows what stuck to it.... ugh! Of course it was not his fault. Maybe he should have inspected them first I guess.

Parking is a problem here even though we found street parking right in front of this place out of sheer luck! Most people that come here have to use their valet service.

The food merits two stars but the ambience and service bumped it up to three.

I would given this 2 stars, but because of $10 coupon I gave it one extra star. I must  be in Valentine mode giving away stars...

Pros: Large portion meals and seating. If you have a large group, this is a great spot.

Cons:  PARKING sucks in this area.  Let me take that back. This restaurant wanted to charge $2. 50 for valet parking. If not, be prepare to bring long distance running shoes. Or you can always take some sort of public transportation from your parking spot to Buca Di Beppo... FOOD is ok. From the bread to the pasta to the pizza, nothing really special about it. Warm soft bread would be nice. The pasta tasted dry. Pepperoni pizzas, which I love and can eat all day, wasn't all that. I don't mind it being greasy, but lacked taste. The chicken was the only food that had a good taste... PRICEY. Due to large portion meals, it can be expensive. Add up ALL three... : /

I know there are a lot of people out there who just love this place.  Can't go wrong with Italian food, right?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Buca is the worst place to go for Italian - hence, the three stars.  Also, the antipasto salad is very tasty!  And, the service was prompt and decent.

However, Buca just doesn't do it for me.  Seems to be missing a certain "Je ne sais quoi" of sorts.  I find their pasta to be quite bland and their pizza is just too greasy for my taste.  I may not be a connoisseur of Italian cuisine, but this seems to lack in flavor and texture.  I won't comment on innovation, because Buca is intended to be home-style traditional Italian meals...therefore, not much room for the cooks to innovate, and their clients would probably not appreciate some off-the-wall new dish with all the bells and whistles of a nuveau restaurant.  All and all, Buca is just okay.

The portions are ginormous, but that in my book does not compensate for taste...but it does give you leftovers for your next day's lunch.

I'm relieved that our party didn't get seated in the Pope room!  (photo by Buca:) http://www.yelp.com/bi...
I wouldn't have been able to eat comfortably with him staring at me!

Luckily i was in very good company of my friends at a different section - this place is bigger than it seems from the outside. Love all the fun photos posted on the walls, the atmosphere is lively.

Family style, portions are good. But from the dishes that we ordered, everything was  A ok. One of the pasta dishes we ordered was not supposed to be spicy, but it was VERY spicy. Carbonara was alright. Chicken parm was good.  Calamari was good- marinara it comes with has a kick. I like my tomato based sauces sweet,  not spicy- so the choices i had weren't my fave. Maybe i should have tried the pizzas?

Love that they always have coupons in the sunday ad papers!

I would give it 2.5 stars.

The negatives- Bad service (weird guy, didnt answer questions well and forgot our meatballs).  Food was very expensive and very mediocre.

Positives- Large portions, salad was very good and pizza was delicious.

Could have probably made some better decisions when it came to ordering but dont know if I will be back for a mulligan.

The service we received was impeccable. The food, not so much.

My family and I came here for my brother's birthday and I was not impressed. Just like many people have said, the food is very bland. Not flavorful at all. I was really disappointed because Italian food is one of my favorites.

I also didn't like the decor of the place....it just seemed cluttered because of all the sh*t on the walls. On the upside, the place was live and full of people. We were a party of 10 and we were seated right away.

If you're a person who likes their food to actually be flavorful, this place is not for you. The portions are huge and the staff was very friendly and accommodating.

    Unfortunately, I'll never go back.

Took my mother to dinner here for her B-Day last Friday night. I had started a thread in the Talk section to get some current feedback as I had never been here before and the responses were mixed, from great to terrible. A perfect example of why I always suggest everyone sample a place themselves despite what others might have experienced.

Due to some family issues, only her and I ended up being able to go. Arrived around 7:15PM and valet parked in back. Walked down the steps into the place and immediately the noise level increased significantly. The place was already pretty much packed and there were several large parties of revelers having fun and being loud.

We almost decided to sit in the bar area as it was much calmer in there, but elected to go with our assigned seats on the right side of the restaurant which was a bit more tame. Got seated, I ordered an Absolut Carnberry and her a iced Cappachino with chocolate and whip cream, something they do not offer, but made for her.

As mentioned, this place is loud. Seems primarily designed for large parties celebrating B-Days (and there were plenty), or families. However there was every category of customer present including older and younger couples, large and small groups of friends, families with kids etc..

Interesting decor with old pictures, paintings and murals, mostly Italian themed covering the walls. They also played music in the background, lots of Sinatra-esque tunes. The "Pope Table" in the back was a real trip.

Anyways we ordered an appetizer of Lobster Fonduta, a cheesy cream sauce loaded with lobster and served with thin garlic bread. Outstanding. My mother wanted something once again they really didn't offer-Veal Fettucini Alfredo (don't ask) and I opted for the Braised Ribs in Chianti reduced sauce. The waiter/waitress combo (someone being trained) were very accomodating and agreed to have mommy's meal made special. I added a large garlic mashed potato and a second cocktail, one of their Buca Bella specialty drinks (which was very dangerous)

It took a while for the food to arrive, but gave us time to chat. I didn't mind as I had told the waitress that I had read poor reviews of the braised ribs in the past being tough and undercooked. When the food did get to the table I was impressed. They had told us the portions were large and indeed they were. Ribs cooked perfectly and very tasty. Of course mommy didn't like her meal as soon as she saw it expecting something else. After her complaining that the cut up veal was tough they took it back (no charge) and suggested the Prosciutto & Cheese stuffed Chicken Breast.

So we shared the ribs and potatos while waiting for her new entree. I ordered 1 last Buca Bella cocktail, which they forgot about and in retrospect was probably just as well. The new entree arrived in a bed of creamy pesto sauce and of course my mother didn't like it although I found it absolutely delicious. Ended up having to make them warm up the appetizer leftovers so mom could eat something she liked.

We ate what we could and ended up taking 4 to-go boxes of food with us. Before leaving the staff came over, yelled to everyone around that my mom was celebrating her Sweet 16 B-day and sang their version of happy birthday. The manager came by after to ask how everything was and despite her not liking some of the food, my mother had a good time.

Overall-the staff was great, except for forgetting my drink order. The food came a bit slow, but nothing to scream about. The quality and taste of the food was exceptional, at least IMO. The price, a bit high, but they do give you a lot of food for the money. Not quite 5 stars, but a strong 4+.

On a side note, there were several families who seemed to frequent the place regularly and had a great routine for up to 6 people. 1 Large Salad, 1 Large Pizza, 1 Large Spaghetti and Meatballs, free bread, then share it all between them. Seemed like enough for all and economical way to enjoy this place. I spent a lot, but didn't mind.

WTH has happened to this Restaurant?  I've given it several chances and I keep having the same experience.. small portion sizing  of food at large portion prices. This was the last time.

Yesterday I ordered a small  Veal Parmesan & Small Spaghetti to go.  First of all the restaurant was EMPTY EMPTY EMPTY and I had ordered on line and sent my order in at least 25 minutes before I showed up to pick up.  Had at least a 10 minute wait when I arrived. Didn't understand  that because as I said earlier, the place was empty!  So finally my food arrives packed and ready to go. I notice that the bag feels awfully light for Bucca di Beppo portions but I press on home regardless.

When I opened my containers I was really bummed out.  There were three very tiny pieces of veal with about two tablespoons of sauce in the bottom of the foil container. This was not even a small bucca portion!  Small bucca portions should feed at least 2 people. More disappointment followed when I opened The spaghetti container. It  was also about half of a small order and there was a doll-up of luke warm marinara sauce on top. I seriously mean doll-up. It was about a tablespoon of sauce for approximately 2 cups of noodles.

I used a $10 off coupon but to tell you the truth, even with the coupon this was no bargain.

I was going to go on to mention about another time here when I was with a party of 14 people and the awful service we received but its really not worth it at this point. I just won't be returning unless I hear they have seriously changed .

We love this place for eating with the family, or just the two of us! If we can, we like to eat at the kitchen table and watch the bustle behind the scenes. The servers have always been warm and friendly. The second time we came in on a Tuesday night, our waiter, Drew, actually remembered us and mentioned that we had been there the previous Tuesday! That really impressed me, because I had to think back to get the day. Our waitress the other night, Sarah, was just as great! I'm very impressed with how they send out runners so the food gets to the table ASAP. That's why you often get more than one waiter.

Since they took the warm tomato spinach salad off the menu (I think the spinach scare did that one in), we always share the Apple Gorgonzola Salad. Lately,  I love the mussels, with or without the linguini, and Rob usually gets a pasta. It's a lot of food, but we each get what we like and we take half home for another meal.

I just remembered something that also impressed me... a couple of months ago, we ordered a dish that comes with capers. I think it was chicken with lemon and capers. The capers were one of the things that helped us decide on that dish. When the meal came, the capers were missing. When we realized it, we mentioned it to the manager, who was visiting the next table. Our waiter showed up immediately (I guess we should have waited to tell him), and the manager told him to bring us some capers and our dessert would be on the house! He brought us a big bowl of capers! And the chocolate cake was delicious!

PARKING SUCKS. I hate force valet. Plus the food is way over rated. Its good and large portions. 3 stars at best. Great place for kids birthday partys they can accomidate large groups and its really tough to ruin spaghetti or most pasta dishes. Olive Garden has had huge success with very average food.

Food took FOREVER! Drinks came out wrong. Management came over and said sorry. But it was a horrible attempt to save the night.
The manager didn't came to say sorry. He came to make a point of saying sorry with no meaning behind it!

Imagine if a TGI Friday's defecated in an Olive Garden. That's the best way I can describe this establishment. The food lies on a spectrum between average and terrible. If you ever wanted to eat Stauffer's tv dinner Italian food in a room with random shit on the walls, this is the place. I went to Buca Di Beppo to watch a basketball game and let me tell you...This place has a sweet DVD/VCR combo 21" tube tv. Like I said, this place is awful. I love Italian chain restaurants, but not this one.

Had a very bad date here... The table next to us spilled a bottle of wine on the floor, I had to tell three different servers to clean it up.  When I left the spilled wine was not cleaned. I've been here a few times w/ great coworkers in the past. My husband, had good times with friends. But together, we've never ate here..So last night for our date night we decided to go big..big portions, that is.

Not long after arriving we were seated, visited and entertained by Johnny, the Manager for the night. He took our drink order and brought us two cold, on tap Newcastles and bread to start our night. He was awesome, since our waiter was busy with more tables to handle all by himself.

As hungry as we were, we shared Small portions. I've never noticed it but is says on the menu "Small feeds around 3, Large feeds an average sized country or around 6." We weren't feeling one big plate to share, so we ordered two smalls. A delicious pesto covered plate topped with two  breaded Chicken breasts stuffed with Prosciutto. And a small plate of four Manicotti with marinara. It was the perfect size to keep us stuffed and not able to move or even think about dessert. Loved it, loved our bill ($55), loved our waiter and Johnny (he was the highlight of night other than my Italian dinner).

The only thing I can think of to complain about, are the other customers. They're rude, their kids are rude, their tips are rude. I didn't like the atmosphere of other people that night, they were easy to make fun of, while they complained about waiting 10 mins for food. People, take it easy, don't be so uptight..It's family night!

Buca has always been a reliable stand-by for decent Italian food.  And, that was the case when we dined here last Saturday night.  Even though the portions are huge (we ordered small versions of our two entrees for two people) it just feels overpriced for what you get.

Their wine list reeks of the most pedestrian labels you can imagine.  Absolutely nothing notable--and yes, I know this is a chain but they could still have some halfway decent wine.

We were seated right next to the bar back area for dinner even though the place wasn't more than half full.  I should have asked to be moved but we stayed put.  The smell of spilt beer lingered throughout the evening.

The bright spot of our night was our server who was really top notch.  She was friendly without being overzealous and made the evening pleasant.

I'm sure we'll be back again, when no other options are available.

Get ready for a food coma! The food is good.  The service is a little lacking. It takes forever to get a seat. It seems they never have enough waiters. You will most likely see your waiter five times. Once, to get your oder, the second to bring you your drinks, the third to bring you your food,  the fourth to bring you you bill, and the last time to return your card.
I didn't know it took 20 minutes to prepare a glass of water.

Always a fan for family style eating. Went in here last Sunday for some lunch with mom and fiance. Ordered the pasta san remo and some sample of 4 pastas. Forgot the name. Anyway, bread service was prompt, bottle of wine hit my table in 4 minutes, the server was nice, food was piping hot and all was well!

We left fat, happy and ready for a nap.

On a side note: The bathrooms were clean, the manager was professional and stopped by our table to say hello and thank you.
    I really liked that! :)

Fiance said the Caneloni was VERY GOOD!!

The food is very good and the proportions are generous.

We recently held our wedding rehearsal dinner here and it was great. TONS of great food for the price and plenty of meal and course type options to choose from. The sales person that I dealt with leading up to dinner was easy to deal with and the wait staff was great.

The only minor drawback to holding a rehearsal dinner here is that there is no real private room, but they seemed to do their best to not sit anyone near us and we had plenty of room for our party of 35 which included some kids.

I would recommend it for the price and quality of food for big parties.

I want to like this place but they keep shooting me down.

Food is tolerable but the "experience" is not my thing and the service is passive aggressive, not a good thing.

    Dear god... FAIL.

We ordered takeout last night with the open mind of giving this family style chain another try since it had been years since I have had it.

What a waste of money needless to say......

First off, as a starter, we ordered the mozzarella garlic bread which, SHOULD BE a no brainer, you thrown cheese on bread and toast BOOM.

Well, I really have to hand it to someone here, I really do because what we got looked like something from 7th grade home economics class.

Soggy, overcooked bread with gobs, not diced gloves but full GOBS of garlic carelessly thrown all over it.

    The chef should be ashamed.

Next, we opted to split the small Lasagna. Being that my better half isn't really a Lasagna person, I had hoped that this would be an exception to the rule.

    It wasn't

Matter of fact, I think Stouffers does a better job.

Again with the dry, overcooked pasta, dull, bland flavors and MINIMAL, that's right, MINIMAL marinara sauce for the dish.

Matter of fact, take off even one star because we had to microwave the food to get it warm when we got home....WE LIVE 2 BLOCKS AWAY.

    Don't waste your money.

We had been enjoying this Buca location since they had first opened .. even watched as they transformed from the bank building that it used to be into the Buca di Beppo location. The food had always been very tasty and fulfilling. However, something has changed over the last year or so. It's not like it used to be. For one, the prices have increased and the portions have become smaller. Example: the chicken saltimboca, while still flavorful, the 3 VERY small pieces were unacceptable in portion size for the price. It was the CHICKEN, not the veal. The salad that we used to love with prosciutto and Gorgonzola cheese ... you have to pay an additional charge for the two items that make the salad! Actually, the price increase on this particular salad happened about a year ago, but it still makes the sting hurt with the newest price increases and portion downsizes. Also, disappointing are the baked pastas. The edges are dried out and without the sauce to prevent it from drying during baking. The outer pieces are inedible.  Fortunately, we used a $10.00 off coupon.

Still a very loud noise level atmosphere. It's not the type of restaurant where you can sit and have a conversation, unless you yell over the noise level along with all of the other people. It appears to be more and more of a very large group/party restaurant, not including smaller family units. I still love the interesting artifacts on the walls, but that's about it right now.

I love this place! There's nothing bad I can say about it. Food tastes great. Yes, it can be loud but it never bothered me. Big servings! We always end up taking something to-go. My favorites are the fried calamari, stuffed mushroom, frutti de mare, chicken marsala and chicken parmigiana. All the desserts are also pretty good.
