6 reviews for Buca Di Beppo
If you're looking for good Italian food, don't go here. If you're looking for a TON of mediocre Italian food... this should be your first choice.
We got a coupon in the mail. $10 off $30. Sounded like a cheap date to us.
First off, the emphasis here is on service. Every person I encountered was super duper friendly. From the hostess to the server to the manager. Propers to Buca.
The food? Meh. What can I say? It's not overly tasty. It fact, it's pretty one-note. Alfredo is creamy without any complexities or hint of flavor. Green beans were kind of mushy and over done. Prosciutto stuffed chicken was basically the same culinary feat I mastered in college in a dorm room.
Some of the pictures were kind of funny. Some had boobs in them. Yes. Real tits. I was a little surprised in my puritanical American way. This is Maitland! There are no unsheathed female mammary glands in Maitland!
At the end of the meal the manager brought us a coupon. Next time? $10 off $20. I think we'll use it when we're in need of another cheap date.
I've eaten at Buca di Beppo a few times and I have yet to be truly impressed. When you first walk in, you're taken aback by the amount of stuff hanging on the walls. The restaurant is pretty cramped and "busy" looking. Buca serves all of their entrees family style - so you definitely need to go with a group.
I went with a rather large group and we ordered a few different appetizers, salads and entrees. The first thing I noticed was that our Mixed Green Salad w/Prosciutto & Gorgonzola was DRENCHED in dressing. It had big globs of Gorgonzola cheese also (TOO much). Our garlic bread wasn't anything special - just a few slices of Italian bread smothered in butter with big chunks of garlic. The Fettuccine Alfredo and Spaghetti we ordered were pretty unmemorable. The chicken dishes tasted like something I could probably whip up in my kitchen with a few simple ingredients. Again, nothing memorable.
Their drink prices are quite ridiculous (8 bucks or so for a glass of "house wine" and mixed drinks are even more).
I'm not a big fan of Buca... but I guess if you're looking for something simple to fill you up (they give you a ton of food), then give it a go!
If you're not familiar, Buca is a place you go with large groups. Every item on the menu comes in either "Small" (2-3 people) or Large (4-6 people). That way, it's a family-style meal, and everyone shares off of big center plates. It usually opens at 4:00 pm.
The restaurant's walls are covered with over 1,600 pictures, and the place has an over-the-top feel to it, which I personally like.
I recently went with 3 other people. We ordered a Large Antipasto salad and a Large Quattro al Forno sampler. It was $55.
NOTE: They recently introduced the Buca Mio menu, where you can get something all for yourself. But it's usually only a couple of dollars less, and you get half of the amount of food.
ALSO: The parking lot is really small, but there is additional parking behind the restaurant.
This place was the location of the former Bubble Room - where everyone took their prom date once upon a time.
Now it is reincarnated as a kitschy Italian restaurant, where the walls are covered in photos of Italian actors/actresses, or anything even remotely Italian.
I can't say much positive about the entrees my husband and I ordered - each had its own problems. Mine was very salty, and his broccoli was like lava and he burnt his mouth (couldn't see the steam in the dim lighting).
The portion sizes are super huge, so if quantity is your thing, you'll love this place. I doubt I'll be back, it just wasn't worth it for the bland taste of the food.
We had:
Chicken Saltimbocca - with prosciutto and artichokes
Macaroni Rosa - with sliced chicken, broccoli, mushrooms, peas, rosa sauce
I love their layered eggplant, the bread loaf cut like a pie is pretty good too but you gotta try the eggplant each piece is breaded and they are layered it's super YUM!
Would be fun to sit in the kitchen sometime too.
I second and third the other reviews of Buca Di Beppo. The food is super salty, which makes me think it is not fresh. Buca is one better than Olive Garden, but not anywhere close to authentic Italian. The portion sizes are family style, but they have recently added single-size portions to the menu as well. The chocolate cake is huge and definitely the best thing on the menu.
