9 reviews for Buca Di Beppo
We hadn't been to Buca in years and had a great experience at our visit last night with our two young children. There was no wait at 6pm on a Tuesday evening--probably because it's Thanksgiving week. Our waiter was pleasant, good with kids and attentive. We ordered a small spaghetti and the wonderful gorgonzola/apple salad. The spaghetti with TWO HUGE MEATBALLS fed our family of four with some left over! The meatballs were flavorful, tender. The sauce was more of a crushed tomato/olive oil/garlic-type sauce than a thick red sauce. Everyone loved it.
The salad was so unique with its cinnamon-glazed walnuts, granny smilth apples and gorgonzola cheese over romaine. The dressing was a zingy, red-wine viniagrette with herbs and onions. Well done. We waited around 15 minutes for our food but gnoshed on rustica bread and olive oil while we waited.
You can't beat the decor for a fun game of I Spy with kids.
I had forgotten how great Buca Di Beppo is until I recently came here. Yes there are Buca Di Beppo's in California and we had a friend with us who had never tried it so we stopped in for dinner. The wait was about 30-40 minutes so we made our way into the bar for some drinks. The bar was pretty much empty so we sat down, enjoyed a few drinks and decided to order an appetizer because were starved and had just flown into Indy. We got to talking to the bar tender "Joe" and he gave us a few pointers on places to check out and to eat while in Indy. He was so friendly and fun to talk to.
We were seated after about 40 minutes and ordered our meals. We had the chicken stuffed with prosciutto and a sample platter of stuff shells, cannelloni, and penne. Everything was delicious and service was great. Definitely recommend coming here to Buca Di Beppo!
A bunch of us were here for dinner during GenCon. Please note, if you are here during a convention, you MUST make a reservation. This restaurant is too popular to just walk in and grab a table. Having said that, we made a reservation for eight and had a very good dining experience.
The wait staff was attentive and friendly. We never had an empty glass. The staff also tells you about their family style portions, and how much to order for the amount of people in your party, without trying to make you spend extra $$$. Family style dining is tons of fun, so go with the flow!
The food was delicious. Too bad we didn't have room for dessert. Next time!
We ordered:
Appetizers
Garlic Bread with cheese
Calimari
Dinner
Spaghetti Marinara
Penne San Remo
Chicken Carbonara (group favorite)
Eggplant Parmigiana
Went with a large group from work and I had great anticipatory excitement from hearing about this family-style Italian restaurant. The portions are huge and the decorum is truly something to take in. However, I was largely unimpressed with the food. I found the pasta to be lacking seasoning and it was, in a word, bland. The salad was fresh, but the meatballs were HUGE and again not seasoned very well. All-in-all it was a nice place to go with a group from work, but I wouldn't dare go back with my family spending my hard-earned cash.
I am giving two stars for our last experience at Buca. Our food was cold when it came out, but so was everyones that day. We had to wait in the kitchen for a while and realized it is freezing in there. No wonder the food was so cold. I think it is a problem with the building.
I think Indianapolis has much better italian food options.
Absolutely one of my favorite Italian restaurants ever. If you aren't into garlic, do not come here.
Yes, the food comes in huge portions. Be prepared that one entree and a side is enough for 2 people normally. This is not someplace to go every week, as it is a bit expensive and kind of a diet killer. I highly recommend this place. Try the garlic mashed potatoes! Amazing.
Buca is a fun place to go if you have a large group. They don't joke about the "family size" stuff. Anything you order will literally be a *ton* of food. I remember coming here with a high school boyfriend before prom, unaware of Buca's MO, and foolishly ordering an entree for each of us. Hah! We had tortellini coming out our ears, and couldn't even really box it up, as we were on our way to a dance. Tragic!
The food is fairly good, I think, but the shtick does get a bit old. And the decor is, in my opinion, overwhelming. It's definitely a loud, boisterous place with copious amounts of food, so be prepared for that if you come here. If you're yearning for a quiet, romantic night out with your honey, keep looking.
Buca di Beppo is great if you want a ton of food for your large party. We had 7 for dinner on Friday night, so we popped in there. The food is decent and pretty consistent.
We ordered the cheesy garlic bread and the antipasto salad to start. For our main meal we had the Quattro al Forno
which is the baked pasta sampler and the Chicken Saltimbocca. The Chicken Saltimbocca is my favorite dish at Buca. Lemon butter, capers, artichoke and prosciutto? Yes please!
With 2 bottles and 5 glasses of wine, and 2 beers, the total was $230. Not too bad. Our server was very pleasant and helpful.
One tip - if you've got a large party on a Saturday night - make a reservation or you'll be waiting forever.
Yes I know, Buca's is chain Italian food. Still, it's done with such gusto that I can't help but be appreciative. The softball sized meatballs on top of spaghetti marinara are delicious, and the booze-soaked tiramisu is what keeps me coming back. The bar is also well stocked and the wine is cheap.
I'm not a fan of the salads, since they're authentic (anchovies in the ceasar) which makes vegetable options slim. Bring a large group and you'll go home happy. If there's only one or two of you in your group, you'll have trouble with the family-sized portions.
