Bub's  has been around for as long as I can remember.

They have the BEST gyros in the city.

The ribs, cheesefries, and hotdogs are pretty good as well.

This is a nice place to stop for greasy, Chicago style food.

    Service is speedy, too.

You ever seen a hot dog shop in Chicago. You know the one's that serve all the basics and your standard array of fried apps. This is the same thing, and it delivers in the same way. Just right.

BUBS! I've seen you there on Irving, looking good. But i've never stopped in. But you deliver! And you have good Yelp reviews. Monday lunch - check! We ordered perogi with cheese and potato, chili cheese fries and cheese sticks.

I freaking love perogis but I haven't had one that was home made in years, so when I saw them on the menu - I said Yes please! They are good! They are not drenched in butteryness as much as I like but they are cooked perfectly. They are soft and moist and chewy and tasty. Some of the best i've ever had!

The chili cheese fries - Another good choice! These are crinkle cut fries smothered in cheese and chili. SMOTHERED. In a good way.

The cheese sticks. Cheese sticks are virtually the same everywhere I go. I've never had one wow me before. Bubs was no different. I liked them and we will eat them just fine. The only problem I had was the marinara sauce - it looked and tasted burnt. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it was a one time thing because everything else is delish!

If it's your cheat day or you just feel like nomming on some goodies - Call Bubs!

While I was definitely tempted by the fresh perogi offerings (and make sure to ask about these if you want them, because they are not easy to find on the wall menu) and the pulled pork sandwich special, I stuck with my gyros guns and got me one of those. Served nicely rolled in paper, making it easy to eat by hand, after forking off a few slices, the meat was succulent, fresh and the sauce and onions were nicely distributed for maximum bite-to-bite satisfaction. Accompanying fries were OK,. The combo ran around $7-8.00. So a good value.

The decor won't disappoint you if you are hoping for that Chicago fast food orange and yellow formica formula with dropped ceiling and flourescent lighting. Feels like a place where you'd meet your high school chums and hang out. Nice folks behind the counter. You order, but they bring your order to the table. A little out of the way here in Porkage, 'er Portage Park. But I don't know, I kinda like it out here every once in awhile. And I will remember this great gyros source. Oh, and my friend had a hot dog. It looked beautiful. He ate it fast.

I admit it.  I have those lazy days where it's 7:00 pm and I'm still in my PJs.  I've already had a PBJ for lunch and I wander to the kitchen, searching the cabinets for something, but decide that I'm not up for the effort of making mac n' cheese.  An official 100% lazy day.  So I peruse Grubhub and think...."mmmm, I could really go for something like cheese fries right now."  And there it is, offering delivery to me (for a minimal fee) - Bub's.  Fried food epitomized, Bub's is like having access to delivery from your favorite greasy spoon.  My sis and I ordered a feast and our total came to a whopping 20 bucks....with tax & delivery!  And I can't forget to mention the service.  Our food came in 20 minutes and it was piping hot.

The only thing I wouldn't order again were the desserts.  We ordered the chocolate and comfort cake and both were on the dry side.  Other than the slices of cake everything else was totally satisfying and I wouldn't hesitate to order from Bub's again!

    Mmmmmm...Pierogies...with sour cream...and applesauce.

Yes...this "hotdog" joint has some of the BEST Pierogies in this WHOLE city. And the prices...you just can't beat them.

I have a very good friend who lives right around the corner from here and it's almost a tradition of ours...if we go out for a couple of cocktails or have a party at her house...Bub's Pierogies are sure to be included in the celebration.
My favorite...the Sauerkraut.. But the meat or the potato...so yum!

Now even if I do make it all about the Pierogies...they do have other tasty treats.
Their Chicken Pita, their burgers and fries are pretty good also...

but it's always all about the little doughy pillows of fattening goodness.

I love these little mom and pop shops, sometimes they are the best places to feed that certain sin... gluttony. They are the best places for what I call slop food (i.e. greasy fries, burgers, and hotdogs). I always try to justify it as maybe I need to put on some pounds before a Chicago's winter, to keep warm you know and then my stomach goes "well maybe you do too".

Bub's has always been kind of hit or miss for me when I lived in the area, but when it was good OOOOOOH it was good. I always wished they would be open later then 8:30 on the weekends (nothing like some cheese fries after a few drinks!). For awhile they did have the best pierogies around but I can't say that anymore. They were always friendly and it was always a cheap meal, check them out if you're in the area.

    I'm full.

I've had so many pierogies I think I can smell them on my skin.  We ordered what seemed like a freakin case of pierogies.  Potato and cheese pierogies, as well as meat pierogies.  They tasted so fresh - and just oh, so delicious.  I am not a expert on pierogies by any means, but this are probably the best pierogies I have had in a long, long time.

There they were in front of me, swimming in a pool of butter - just screaming to be dipped into sour cream - and I humbly obliged.  Each bite just seemed to get better and better until my stomach was stretched to its limit , and then it happened.  I ate more - and I was completely satisfied.  They hit the spot in every way - and it made for a great way to end a long, stressing day.

    More please!

I ordered from Bub's again last week and chose three different types of perogi.  I have to tell you it were some of the best perogi I've ever eaten.  They were light, delicate and full of flavor, and each arrived wrapped separately and steaming hot.  It doesn't get much better than that even at a sit-down place, so kudos to Bub's for such consistently high quality.

Holy Cow...that is one big gyro!

Ok, seriously you can't go wrong if you are serving Krono's or Grecian Delight gyro meat. Gyro meat is pretty standard all around Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. With that said, it is hard to find a place with good sauce and a the right pita (not too bready, thick, and dry) and this place hits it on the spot with those 2 points alone.

I ordered the Big Gyro because they have a $10 delivery minimum, but this thing was seriously 3 lbs! I also ordered a house salad, which could have been better, but I also wasn't expecting much. They could improve on it by using Romaine instead of Iceburg and if they continue to use Iceburg, they should remove the rusty colored pieces. I had "Bub's Italian" for the dressing and it was a little too sweet for my idea of an Italian Dressing. But I get it... it was my fault. Who the heck orders a salad with a gyro, should of just stuck with the fries. But I was think the fries would stick to my hips and that's not fun either.

Overall gyros get 4 stars and the salad gets half a star for effort. Delivery was SUPER FAST and I got my order in about 15 mins!

I've been going to this establishment for more than twenty years -- originally called Hub's -- and I have yet to have a complaint.  In all of those years, there were only two occasions when the food wasn't exactly what I ordered, and on both occasions they corrected it with a smile.

My favorite is the Gyro's-  you won't finish it there, the meat is piled high.

We just moved here over the summer and went to the closest restaurant we could find one day (which happened to be bub's).  From that very first day, myself and my six other roommates have been so infatuated with it.  Everyone who works there is so nice and the food is so great.  Sometimes we find ourselves eating there more than once a week.
It was an absolutely great introduction to Chicago and we will continue to always go there.

I went here yesterday for the first time since living less than a half mile away for 19 years, and I'm glad I did! I got the Philly Cheesesteak with fries & a drink combo, decently priced at around $9. It was really tasty and delicious - not dry at all. Whoever said it in the past reviews is right, the serving sizes are big! That's a good thing, though. You can customize your sandwich, which is great for picky eaters like me. Overall a very good experience. I will be back soon! :)

ALSO! SIDENOTE: I was there yesterday 06/04/2011 and THEY DO ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS! Just so you guys know, & not to hassle over it.

Cub fans, perogie's and cheap...I think I'm in love. i've been coming here for at least a year and have had consistently good food and service. I normally get the sweet cheese perogies, but on the occasion that I want some junk food I load up on the bbq chicken, corn on the cobb and cheese fries. These guys know how to do carbs right.

This is not your typical fast food joint. Sure they have all the usual suspects like hot dogs, burgers and gyros. What surprised me was to see pierogi on the menu. Apparently, they have a Polish female cook who is amazing. They offer a variety of sweet and savory dumplings cooked to your liking with onions, bacon or sour cream on top. The portions are large here so come with a healthy appetite. Also, if you can manage to leave room for dessert, they are all homemade. Customer service is outstanding. Warren and the crew are the best!

I never would have believed that service at a "hot dog/gyros joint" would be so attentive!  I was actually blown away!  I have described our first experience (been back several times and haven't been disappointed yet).  If you want to read just the facts, skip down to the end of this review....

So my husband had just gotten out of the hospital (he's fine) and was totally jonesin' for a 'great big cheeseburger.'  So we pick up the kids at the sitter's and swing in to Bub's.  Here is our experience from beginning to end:

Parking is a bit wierd, but you'll figure it out.  We walk in, and it is really quite typical of what you would expect to see.  Booths, counter, gumball machines, menu posted over the counter... y'know, the usual.  But a few things were not so usual and actually quite surprising.

First of all, the guy behind the counter greeted us pleasantly.  Really friendly.  Even though we had our rambunctious 2 year old boy and our whiney second grade daughter with us.  And they were starving.  The guy was unflappably kind.  So we order, and another guy suggests the kids just split the hot dog special since it comes with two dogs.  Sounds fine, and I'm a cheapskate, so I tell the kids they are going to share a drink, and the first guy whispers that he will just give them each a small drink so they don't have to split.  He says he will give them each their own tray so there won't be any issues.  He doesn't even make a fuss about ketchup-only hot dogs.  He also offers me the choice of letting the kids put on their own ketchup or them doing it.  Which would be better for us?  And is it okay for the kids to have candy after they eat.  Huh?  Pinch me, I must be dreaming.

So we finish ordering, we pay (cash only) and the guys say, go ahead and sit down, we'll bring it to you.  At this point I figure my hubby and I must look really ragged and are getting some serious sympathy, but then we notice that they bring everyone their trays of food.  So in a blink of an eye, out comes the trays of food.  Each of the kids get their own tray, with a hot dog, fries, their own drink, and a Blow-Pop.  What a treat!

My daughter, now that she is fed, starts talking about how this is the best place ever, and asks for a pen.  She writes a little thank you note on the place mat (I know, it's only cute if you are the mom) and gives it to the guy at the counter.  Now, he played the game and went through the whole "what a great kid" routine.  If it were me, the second the kid left, the place mat would be in the rubbish bin.  But what does he do?  He hangs it up with other thank you notes.  It is still there.

So here is the real review:
    Service:  GREAT!!!
    Prices:  Great
Food:  The dogs are great, burgers good, pierogis (yup!) are very good, Italian beef is okay, fries are okay, and the desserts are FABULOUS!!!  (Home-made and cheap as heck!)
Decor: Typical of what you would expect, but a cute outdoor seating area which seems like it might be loud with traffic noises.
    Extras:  Kid friendly, they DELIVER!!!

I live just west of this little place. I passed it plenty of times not knowing what I was missing. Great food, good prices, solid value and a staff of really nice people. Gyro sandwich was huge. I ordered the large rib eye steak sandwich which was cooked perfect exactly like I ordered it. Great addition to my local quick places. Can't wait to try some more of their food
