Watch where you walk!  The give out free in the shell peanuts, that gets brushed from the tables to the floor.
Bubs has never disappointed.  It's open during the day and they have a few specials going daily.  Prices are average, and service has always been good.
A great spot to meet up with friends and start your day (or night) in PB.  It's one room so its easy to spot you friends, and it's not too busy early on.

Bubs is hopping on Friday and Saturday with random people galore.

Every other night, unless otherwise specified, it is dead.

    Dee Eee Dee

    Dead.

Anyway, nothing special here, so add it to your list of bars to go to while hopping but for the love of everything sacred to drinking, do NOT make this your sole destination.  Try Cabo Cantina, orrrrrr the place across the street! Or... anywhere.

Cool chill place to hang out with friends. Lots of space and it's not packed on a Saturday afternoon. Lots of televisions for sports watching.

The food is pretty good for bar food. Mostly $10 and under for meals.

On to the bad. Our service was beyond terrible! The blonde server was not friendly at all. She was annoyed to be at work and it wasn't that busy. Even when our other friends met up with us later, the first thing they said was, "Wow, she's really "friendly" isn't she?" She barely came by to check on us. Forgot some drink orders. Ugh, the list goes on, but I don't want to waste my time or yours by complaining about her.

The other people working were super nice and great. We ended up having to get them to help us with our drinks and bill. We will not be back because the girl was so rude and it's not worth it.

This Bub's is way better than the one downtown, if you ask me and I've sat at the bar at both Bub's.

I'm upset that I'm blanking on the bartender's name right now, but I'll never forget her face. She was amazing in that she was personable, efficient, and smiled A LOT - hey, smiles and laughs can really go a long way. When I asked her for a menu, she not only handed me the menu, but she also told me about the taco specials, explaining which ones were $3 and which ones were $4. She was very attentive and always asked if I needed more water or another beer. She was def. an over-achiever. Oh and if you care to know, I ordered the tacos with shrimp, which were grilled not fried thank goodness! Yum!

The other bartenders, who were guys, were super chill and friendly, too. I like the vibe and the personality going on at this Bub's location. In other words, the one downtown is um.. DULL and lacking.

Oh, and guess what! Unlike the downtown Bub's they didn't play music videos on all the t.v. screens, they had a couple sports channels on, which is what I want to see considering it is a SPORTS BAR.

The Bub's in PB is awesome in that you never have to jump up and down and wave your arms in the air to try and catch someone's attention. Before you need anything, someone is asking to assist you and is reminding you that hmm... maybe you should be finishing your beer while it's cold.

Stumbled along this place on a Weds afternoon with my boyfriend..we wanted to grab a couple beers. I like this place a lot. I'm a huge Steelers fans and obviously so is the owner of this place ...Love it...Score ..I just found my Sunday Football hang out spot !!! The peanuts that they give you are a plus after 4 beers.... and I love that I get to throw my shells on the floor ...cheers to being a lazy ! Bartenders are eh.. don't feel like I can give a real judgment on this cause we were there mid day and not when it was super busy. The wings here are horrible so skip on those and opt for a Wing Stop instead if you can.

    Two words: TATOR. TOTS.

Leslie C. and Clara S. said they must be triple fried because they are a crunchy orgasm in your mouth. Need more of an incentive? Check in at Bub's on your phone and get them FREE with a $5 drink purchase. Corona, please!

Came here for St. Patrick's Day and loved the mellow vibe of this sports bar. Unpretentious and a great place to catch a game. I've heard great things about Wing Wednesdays ($12 pitchers and $0.25 wings) so I'll have to come back to participate in that awesomeness to give you that last star.

I swear Bub's, where have you been during my six years in San Diego? And why did no one bother telling me about $0.25 Wing Wednesday?! You so sneaky. But I found you, and it was such an exciting fling we went through.

You walk in after 7pm and the guy is forseriously checking your ID and scanning it through the scanner. No joke. They are serious here. Talk about intimidating. And what sucks after that is walking around like awkward vultures preying on patrons getting ready to leave. And they eventually do. But while you're at it you can watch the ground as it continues piling up peanut shells. Yes, I'm serious here. When a seat opens up, FIGHT FOR IT. MOVE ON IN. DONT BE SHY. There are vicious people out there, young grasshopper!

Now, the options of wings are as follows: BUFFALO, BBQ, SPICY BBQ, HONEY MUSTARD, TERIYAKI, SPICY TERIYAKI, ARCHIE, and "FIRE RING" HOT. They come in baskets of 5 wings so sadly you cant try all but if you come with a hungry group, you can just get a bunch of different baskets and pick and choose!

    When in doubt:
    - In my group of 6 guys, our favorites were HONEY MUSTARD, TERIYAKI, BBQ, AND ARCHIE.
    - Buffalo has a funny taste to it. So unless you're a fan of Buffalo, MEH.
    - Men, 15 wings is a very satisfying and good amount. Please dont be stupid and order 30 for yourself.

    Tips:
    - Come early. It starts at 5. If you're under 21, come before 7! Well, you kind of need to.
    - It's a bar so dont expect any romantic getaway music or softspoken people.
    - Why they were showing old awkward 90's hip hop music videos...is beyond me. You're not the only one thinking this.

    Random Con:
    - The wings were a little burnt. Around 30% of the wings had some of that. And it's BITTER when it's too burnt. You lost a star here.

I cant believe I walked out being way too full on 15 wings and paying $4.50 after tax and tip. I feel like I cheated some system. I probably did. I WILL BE BACK. DUN DUN DUN.

I love the chicken wings here! The honey mustard one is my favorite (mainly bc I'm chicken shit when it comes to spicy things). I like that this bar is very chill and has good beer.

Cons: Hard to find parking (typical in pb), hard to find a seat, hard to place your order in such a poppin place.

just looking for somewhere to enjoy Sunday Night football.  Although seating is limited, if you're here for the game with friends..why sit???  Food is what you'd expect from a bar but that's what we were looking for.  Service was excellent for how busy it ended up being.  we were handed a lost but spirits were high nonetheless.  we are HUGE fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but now even more of this Bub's Dive Bar.

Bub's is just another PB bar. It's a cool spot and close to the beach. It's got the PB vibe, with lots of windows and an open air feeling.
Bub's is known for it's Wing Wednesdays. After 5pm they sell pints for $3 and wings for $0.25, which are actually pretty decent. They have a good amount of meat on the bone and with 5, I was pretty full for: $1.25, that's not too shabby. Their appetizers are also half off on Wing Wednesday, so I would definitely come check out Bub's on Wednesday. However, starting around 6:30/7pm it starts getting ridiculously crowded, so if you're into that then no worries :).
They have a good selection of beers and fast, courteous service.
Also if you check-in on Yelp you get free tater tots with a $5 purchase (not on Wednesday though)

I personally prefer the Bub's downtown but this is a good go to place for some decent beer, decent wings and decent company which is sometimes hard to find in PB. Their wings aren't the best but they are far from the worse. They are an amazing deal on wing Wednesdays when they are $.25 each...makes for an extra cheap meal. Their tater tots are also really good, perfectly cooked, nice and crisp on the outside.

I don't always enjoy bars in Pacific Beach however I have met some cool people in that place and always have a good time. They also serve one of my favorite beers, Magic Hat #9, so that definitely helps me come back. Overall about average place with pretty average bar food. They do have things like atmosphere and happy hour deals that definitely make them worth the visit.

Oh Bub's! Our relationship is so sporadic. Sometimes I love you and sometimes I hate you. I'm sure people feel this way all the time. I often wonder (after having to wait 20+ minutes) if it is worth the wait. Coming here for Wing Wednesday nights is almost like the 21st century hunting grounds. You have to stand by tables for as long as party takes just so you can get in.

The wings are cheap, obviously. Quality of them is average. If you want better wings go somewhere else. Good place to chill though, can get loud with all the drunk people but that's Pacific Beach for you.

Service is on average poor. I would like to say understandably so because it always is so busy but good service is almost always possible.

We walked up and down garnet ave looking for a good place to eat because we were starving and we came across this place. we walked in and seated ourselves, the waitress was very fast to come take our order. We got a pitcher of beer and an appetizer to start. it was really good. they even brought us peanuts while we waited, which we noticed the peanut shells were all on the floor. we felt bad for whoever had to clean the place at the end of the night. the food was great, the tater tots were yummy, the beer was good, it was a good place. a little rowdy at first because the lakers game was on, but it calmed down after the game ended. service was great, food was great, all in all, a good experience.

I've tried wings at dozens of places in San Diego and Bub's buffalo wings have been, by far, my favorite so far. I'd give them 5 stars just for that but it's true that their service is terrible - too many people there all the time. You almost need a flare gun to get an order in. Seriously, best wings ever.

Been here a couple times. I like it, especially because I met Boston Rob from Rock 105.3 here :)

It's usually crowded which means that people like this place! Also, there are free peanuts you can eat and throw on the ground. Food is pretty basic but good. It's dark inside but roomy enough to move around. plenty of tables and tvs. Wed they have cheap wings too.

The con? Sometimes they have a cover which I think is ridiculous...you're not a club and it's not downtown.

I couldn't trust anyone who doesn't like Bubs, at least on some level.

Plenty of reviews here will lay out the pro's/con's, but the bottom line is that bubs is perfectly centrally located in PB (great for the "next" stop, if necessary), has above-average grub, and keeps the drinks priced low.

My favorite way to enjoy Bubs is on football mornings with their do-it-yourself bloody mary bar and lack of "bros".

While you may be hesitant about the authentic "divey" nature of a bar that put "dive" in their name, rest assured this place stays true to the call.

    Cheers.

Trying to find a table here on a Wednesday night is like trying to find a parking spot at the mall on a Saturday afternoon.  Luckily, I've devised a list of handy-dandy guidelines, based on the observations of fellow patrons' actions, on how to successfully secure a table.

    - Circle the restaurant, surveying the crowd and taking note of who's almost finished.  You can walk around slowly like a private investigator for added dramatic effect if that's what floats your boat.
    - Once you've picked out your prey, go full throttle and bombard them with questions, asking if they're done eating yet / if they're leaving soon.  It may seem rude, and it might ruin their meal, but who cares; you'll never see them again anyway.  You gotta do what you gotta do, right?
    - Stand next to / in front of table of interest and telepathically send them messages to eat faster so they can GTFO.  Watch them periodically to monitor their progress; make sure they can feel your eyes burning into their souls so that they can hopefully be intimidated into speeding things up.
    - When they finally leave, quickly dive for the table before another group gets their dirty little hands on it

Wings: Not bad... for $0.25 a piece.  Decently sized wings with a fair portion of meat on the bones.  I paid only $2.50 to be stuffed to the point where my stomach hurt whenever I inhaled.
Sauces: Archie... YES!  Spicy BBQ... YES!  Buffalo... too vinegary.  Honey mustard... bland.  Teri-yucki... too salty.
Service: Bleeech, horrible!  I think I saw only two waitresses on the floor, which meant no water refills and waiting five times longer for them to bring you something.

I walked in with high expectations since my friends had hyped up the place so much.  I walked out feeling like someone had just played a really big and embarrassing April Fools joke on me.

Dive bar? I don't see it.... Maybe San Diego has a different idea of what makes a bar a dive though...? To me, Bubs was more of your typical sports bars, complete with Steeler memorabilia on the walls.

I was in the area on a Tuesday afternoon, waiting to get tattooed a couple doors down at SideShow Tattoo, and I needed a bite to eat. It was a few minutes before hapy hour, when the appetizers are half priced, so I munched on some of the free peanuts and sipped a rum and coke.

Once 4 pm rolled and a waiter came by, I ordered the chicken strips which came with fries. It didn't take long for the food to come out but unfortunately I didn't care much for the taste. The chicken strips just had too much breading, I like to be able to taste the meat! But for around $4 the price was right.

Service could have been a little speedier, the place was pretty dead for a weekday afternoon. Next time I am in the area I may pop back in but if I do, I'll order wings instead of strips.

    Food: Tasty
    Drink: Good
Atmosphere: A little loud on game day
Worth going back to? Of course!

After living in PB for 4 years, there's few bars that I really make an effort to go to.  You-Call-Its at Shore Club is worthwhile on certain nights; but, the only one I love seven days a week is Bub's.  I can't vouch for their sister restaurant downtown; but, here's Bub's PB:

Just a word of warning, Bub's is The VT bar.  If you're not up for excitement or shouts of joy, don't go on game day.

The food made here is the type of food we wish we could eat everyday without gaining weight.  As silly as it sounds, they take classics like grilled cheese, tots, wings, and chicken sandwiches and step them all up a notch.  The Guido Grilled Cheese and The Archie Chicken Sandwich are true winners in my book; but, they will both leave your breath unkissable.  Don't be fooled by the prices as most dishes are very well sized since they are served with a generous helping of tots.

The drink scene isn't too special.  There are places with more beer tabs and they don't pour the liquor particularly strong; but, the happy hours are awesome.  Two of my favorite nights are Friday ($3 wells all day) and Wednesdays ($5.5 svedka-redbull night time).

The place isn't as divey as they try to portray themselves as.  And I have yet to bring a guest who didn't enjoy themselves.  And after visiting a number of times, I have never had a bad experience.  Yay Bub's!

When I think of a dive bar, I think the complete opposite of what "Bub's Dive Bar" looks like.    And just because you allow customers to throw peanut shells on the ground doesn't make it a dive.

I am suprised the staff isn't required to wear "flare" here.

A must for any Steelers or Penguins fan. Show up here for any game and you're guaranteed to be among friends. I was in SD by myself for work and wanted to catch the steeper game. Sat by myself at a table but by the end of the game I had made some friends and even stayed for the next. I've never been here and had a bad time.

The drinks are average price and if you come for breakfast they have a make your own Bloody Mary bar in which they definitely don't skimp on the vodka.

The wings here are epic. They're grilled, not fried and have a great charred flavor to them. Archie sauce is unique and tasty.

Came here for it's renowned wings and they are absolutely delicious! The wings are large, well-cooked, saucy and full of flavors. We each ordered two dishes thinking that the wings will be small as usual, but we were wrong. One serving is definitely enough for one person. I've tried all the flavors, they are mostly spicy and tend to be salty. I highly recommend Honey Mustard for people who doesn't like the spiciness, it is milder and sweeter.

The most fun part of the meal is making a mess on the floor with peanut shells which is on-the-house. It is such a good stress reliever! We did have to place our backpacks at the entrance of the restaurant because of the potential peanut mess. It didn't feel secure as it was open to access by public and did not have an attendant all the time. So don't bring any large-sized belongings.

Bub's Found a hang out place to watch Football ever Sunday, plenty of tv's clean and cool atmosphere.

I came in town in September 2011. Wanted to find a cool sports bar, so I was jogging and came across Bub's. Looked like a cool place. So I took my sister and her husband and a friend of mine. We sat outside, the weather was awesome, of course in San Diego. My friend ordered me a 32 oz Jack Daniel mixed drink, I got wasted on it. I liked this place so much we came back couple days later. The bartender was cool. They were serving last keg. Drink for a dollar, what a deal. Also ate mini burgers for a dollar, of course got wasted.

I would highly recommend this bar, if you love watching sports.

What can I say, I would sell my soul for crispy tater tots (yes, I have very low "soul" standards) and Bub's serves killer tater tots.  It also has a great make-your-own bloody mary bar and all the sports you can watch.  The waitstaff are colorful and fun.  You really get the "beach" experience when you eat/drink here.  I wish Bub's had valet parking, but after downing a pound of tater tots it's a good thing to hike back to the car.  I've also tried different salads and they were all equally delicious.  Jillian the bartender is awesome and I hope Bub's is around for a long time.

Came here for Super Bowl and was pleasantly surprised!  I thought it would be overflowing with PB - DB's (douche bags).  But the crowd was fairly diverse.  My BF and his friend arrived early enough to get seats at the bar, so we all took turns standing and weren't over crowded at all.  Bar service was attentive.  I had a chicken sandwich with guac and jack cheese and tots.  It was a little dry, but it's called "Bub's Dive Bar" so I wasn't expecting a gourmet meal.  Overall the flavor was pretty good.  And they have peanuts too!

    -Wednesday $0.25 wings

-FRESH HOT CRISP tater tots!! Don't be a fool, and make sure to order some!!
-Free peanuts for you to enjoy and throw at people

I came with a group of 5 around 11pm, being a little worried that we wouldn't find seats. It actually wasn't that bad and the service is pretty good for a loud and popular place like this. The waitress was pretty helpful as well being that this was our first time. If you like a blend of smoky and sweet, def go for the "Archie" wings! I loved it and was told it's one of the faves here. :)

If you advertise yourself as a dive bar, you likely aren't. Bub's Dive Bar definitely holds that statement true. It gets pretty crowded, but this place rarely has any kind of line. It is an alright place to grab some booze or bar food if you are in PB. The drinks are pretty cheap for the area, just don't expect anything fancy...obviously. It IS a "dive bar".

It is pretty remarkable that SD and the PB neighborhood have so many bars serving actual food.  Bub's is no exception.  From the complimentary salted peanuts to the fantastic sandwiches and tater tots, this place has a lot to satisfy a hungry visitor.

If I lived near here I would be there every Sunday for football, beer, and those peanuts. They reminded me of boiled peanuts from down south, but weren't quite that soft. The nuts were really well flavored and not over-cooked.

The beer selection is great and offers a wide variety of local micro brews.
The sandwiches were a real pleasant surprise, not only for the size, price, and freshness, but for the great side of perfectly cooked tater tots that came with.

Bub's does a really good take on a traditional chicken parm by offering it with a grilled chicken breast. The non-breaded chicken was a surprise, but a welcome one after my first bite and each successive bite thereafter.  The Archie is another terrific sandwich with a great buffalo wing flavored sauce without the overpowering heat.  Lots of flavor and no burn.

I usually go to the Bubs in Downtown, but since I was in Pacific Beach today, I was in the mood for the must have ARCHIE sandwich.  Archie itself is a combo of honey mustard and buffalo sauce. This is definitely a must try sauce espeically if you're eating 25 cent wings on wednesdays.

The service here was a tad more jiffy than the one in downtown probably because I came in on a monday night, but the food took longer than expected.  They delievered satisfaction with its tator tots and onion rings. Other than that, I couldn't complain!

I have never seen such strict ID Carding anywhere except here.  They inspected my card as if it were a bomb, put it through a black light, scanned it using some pad, and double checked my face.  Even VEGAS isn't as strict. Why Bubs? are you afraid lil kids can't handle your wings?!

Wed night is $0.25 Wing Night! I expected tiny wings with barely any meat, but instead these wings were huge, so they had a lot of meat. I was pleasantly surprised. A++ for food quantity.

    FOOD: 4/5 Stars
    1) Buffalo Wings - It wasn't the typical buffalo sauce you're used to. Instead, it was actually a little sweeter and not spicy. I actually prefer spicy buffalo rather than these.
    2) Hot Wings - we ordered 2 drops spicier and it was pretty damn spicy. Make sure you wipe the sauce off your mouth or you will pay!  It was awesome but dang I got owned the next day and i only ate 3. hahaha
    3) Archie Wings - combination of buffalo and honey mustard. These were my favorite for the night.  DELICIOUS! Must try.
    4) Spicy BBQ WIngs - these were pretty good. slight kick of spicy with the sweetness of BBQ sauce.
    5) Tater Tots - AMAZING! Crispy on the outside soft on the inside. Can't get any better.

    SERVICE: 1/5 Stars
Service wasn't that great at all.  Took forever to greet us. Didn't bring us menus. Brought out our water and sodas way after the wings arrived. Didn't refill our drinks.

    AMBIANCE:
As the name of the place indicates, it's a dive bar, so it's really casual with a lot of TVs for sports. One thing I noticed is that everyone's remains from the peanuts they ate were all over the floor, making it look like a barn. I guess that's the appeal they're going for?

    PARKING:
We were lucky to find street parking immediately. If you go during peak times, it'll be extremely difficult to find free street parking.

So I always kind of avoided Bub's...it seemed, at a glance, like PB Bar & Grill's obnoxious brother. I was dragged in here last week, though, and will happily admit that I was wrong. Bub's is pretty cool.

The door guy was a total sweetheart...he magically conjured up a table for us when we cruised in during happy hour, which wins infinite stars right there. Yay for customer service taken to a whole new level. Our server was a sweetheart, too. The whole place has a totally chill, friendly, casual vibe.

They might have the best happy hour in PB: baskets of peanuts, half-price wings, and $10 pitchers of Red Trolley? Check, check, and check again. Everything was super tasty, too...the big, meaty wings were awesome, and the buffalo-honey mustard sauce was the best flavor combination ever.

Oh, yeah, I'm definitely a fan. Bub's, I'll be back.
