My absolute favorite place to get lunch at work in the area.  There's always a huge variety or prepared food and the sandwiches are always made with really fresh ingredients.

The prices are cheap and the staff is really, really friendly.  Plus it's got a great patio that gets plenty of light so I can get some sun before heading back to the fluorescent jungle that is work.

I always think to myself, "No one ever serves egg salad sandwiches. Whenever egg salad is on the menu, order it."
I know, I have limited creative abilities, so I think of all the challenges I have with food and then all of the possibilities of ordering when time.

Anyway, trying Bubi's for the first time, I stood behind several other patrons trying to convince myself that since there was egg salad I should order it:
"order it with horseradish sauce, it'll be good!"
"order it without cheese since there's hella calories already!"
"order it since you insist on it instead of an avocado sandwich."

    Here it goes!
"I'll have the egg salad on dark rye with a some horseradish sauce and hold the pickles, please."
I stood to the side and admired all of the pastries in the window. Then I saw what I heard several others order on the whiteboard: Hot Plate Special Mac n' Cheese. Oh, DAMN! I want that! Too late...
My sandwich was huge and priced on the board as $4.75 plus $.50 for Horseradish sauce, but it rang-up as $6.50. Hmm.
Despite being too mayonnaise-y, I really enjoyed this sandwich! The rye bread was soft and strong-flavored, the lettuce was green leaf and not iceberg, the tomato slices were thick and juicy. Yummy.

...and then an hour later, I HAD to "talk to the president"/"drop the kids off at the pool"/read The Onion in peace - like, REALLY bad.

Never again will egg salad be the focal point of so much drama with myself. I really shouldn't argue with myself anyway. Besides, the Woman Within knows better and she said avocado sandwich.

Bubi's is great. I really love the staff and the way they treat their customers with genuine politeness and consideration. They offer many varieties to choose from for lunch and from what I've seen, their portions are generous. I'll definitely give this place another try by ordering something off the hot menu.

I have a client just around the corner from Bubi's and I've gotten simple deli sandwiches from them a few times now. They're good, straightforward sammiches. Today I was craving something a little more adventurous.

The adorable Keira Knightley look-alike working behind the counter made me a delicious curry chicken salad sandwich today. It's a little bit spicy from the curry and a little bit sweet from the raisins. The vegges are all fresh, the bread is nice and soft, and the price was right.

    Thanks!

PS: You were awesome in Pirates of the Caribbean, but I totally fell in love with you in Bend It Like Beckham before you were all famous and stuff.

Hmm...I just ate half a turkey sandwich and some curry chicken salad and now I my stomach's gurgling. This ain't the first time...

I used to go here once if not twice a week when I started working in Berk years ago. Then I stopped going, when, on one of those weekly trips, the lady was mopping the floor and then proceeded to make my sandwich, sans washing.

Hmm...I think this happened today too. The girl rang someone up right before me (cash), took my order, then made my sandwich. Sans washing, sans gloves...

Ok but on the upside, the (deli meat) sandwiches are always tasty (and not squished/soggy like Westside) and their bread+ingredients are always fresh. Baked goods are always safe delicious as well. I'm not fond of getting the salads that have been sitting in that fridge (is it at the right temp.? kuz the drink fridge isn't) or the food that has been sitting the counter (pizza, calzone, etc.). Freaks me out to eat stuff that's been out in the open for hours, especially with all the flies in the patio wanding into the place.

I guess the price is OK for the choices in the area. But I still don't like shelling out $11 for lunch and then getting a stomach ache. Oh and their credit card machine is broken as of today, so it's cash only.

Yes, the staff is friendly and warm. The older lady is a right laugh and I like that I see her havin a drink @ Brennan's occasionally (and it's barely 3pm). But if you eat here, do your tummy a favour and stick w/the baked goods, the hot food specials and (maybe) the sandwiches - hope they sanitize before making yours. =)

I often forget to go here even though it's just a slightly longer walk than westside.  Sometimes it's because their CC minimum is $10 instead of $5.

Anyway - the food is pretty good...the samosas are great as are their sandwiches.  It's all pretty standard deli fare.  The baked goods are really great - the lemon square is TART (which I love)

What makes them special is the customer service.  They're so sweet here.  Last year, they had a great sweet potato soup.  They made it twice and then I kept missing the days that they had it so they offered to call when they did.  And they did.  They just called me today cause they have it again.  Really - that's service.

$5.35 for a lunch-time sandwich of your your choosing. Not bad.  Just wish they had more vegetarian options besides cheese.

That said, despite a stomach ache, I couldn't resist the chorizo mini pizza ($4.50).  Yummy.  But hurting my tummy now.

They do a little bit of everything here and have some outside seating so I'm sure that I'll come back on busy days (like today - wait... why am I on yelp?) at the office.

Enough apricot and custard kolachys and swiss twinkies...If I have one complaint about bakeries in the Bay Area, it's that I wish they had more down-home baked goods.

That's what I love about Bubi's. The best snickerdoodles and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies around...and moist and chewy at that.

It's an odd little place, tucked in between some random West Berkeley homes, and across from an auto body shop. And the name too, I thought it was pronounced "bubbys", but no, it's "boobys".

I've never tried the deli food they have, but it's worth it if you're in the area to stop off for some cookies.

Bubi's is RIGHT around the corner from where I work so when I'm too lazy to drive somewhere, this is where I go. They have typical deli items (soup, salad, sandwiches) along with some not so typical dishes. Their food options change a lot but sometimes they have pizzas, calzones, curries, pot pies, etc. My only gripe is that they're pretty pricey but still yummy so they get 4 stars.

90 cents for a slice of cheese. =(
$3.75 for a TINY cup (AKA shot glass) of soup. BOO!

Soups (I've been told many times that they don't make the best soups but I keep ordering them anyways... I'm stupid.)

Clam chowder soup: Bleh. Creamy with big chunks of veggies and quite a few clams but it was just boring. Needed salt, pepper and more clam juice. Definitely not worth $3.75 for a tiny cup.

Mexican lentil soup: Tried it. Tasted like mushed beans. Nothing else. Didn't order it.

Potato leek soup: Surprisingly good! The potatos were cooked down to a creamy texture and the broth was refreshing and light but flavorful.

    Onto the food...

Asparagus, mushroom & tomato salad: YUMMMY! Order this if they have it! The sweet cherry tomatoes went well with the tangy vinegar sauce and the mushrooms soaked up a ton of flavor. It was surprisingly filling too.

Overall the sandwichs are really good. How good can a plain deli sandwich be? I'm usually not a huge fan of sandwichs but theirs always seem to have an extra bit of yum in them. I've had turkey, tuna, pastrami and chicken here. ALL were very good! My fav would be their pastrami with swiss cheese. I don't even like pastrami usually! Try it. =)

Sidnote: Their ATM machine was down and I bought a sandwich and cup of soup for a total of $9.35 but only had $9 cash on me. They said it was fine. SCORE! I saved 35 cents today!

Great for coffee in the morning or a light hearty lunch!

They have beef and veggie empanadas and fresh baked goodies too!

It's across the street from work so I deffinitely hit them up on my coffee breaks!

    YUM!

They catered my wedding, my 30th birthday and both my sons' baptisms - definitely some of the most important days in my life.  But the best thing they did was cater my Mom's funeral.  You think you want your wedding day perfect, but you can get over that.  No way do you want any hassle or mistakes at your Mom's funeral.  Bubi's took care of everything and they were so kind and helpful.  They're the best caterers for any occasion, large or small, happy or serious.  Two thumbs WAY up!

Really great chili on Fridays- not to be missed. Good pastries. Stay away from the tuna sandwich though- disgusting!

The best deli lunch option in the area... and the staff is SO warm and friendly.  Like family.  The outdoor seating area is glorious in the summer -- the intoxicating lilac and jasmine perfectly compliment a turkey sandwich and coconut macaroon.   And as my co-worker likes to say: "Bubi's baked goods are like crack.  Especially the thumb print cookies."

Bubi's is the best priced lunch in West Berkeley. In the realm of tiny yet overpriced meals, this is an oasis of reliably good food and reasonable portions. Sandwiches are solid, specials can be fantastic. You'll feel like family.

Compared to Westside......Better service, food made with love, kind staff, and quick.  The food is good, soup excellent!!! Yummy treats in the case or a yummy special of the day ready to go.  There is a $10minimum for CC but they were very kind to tell me after they charged my card just so I would know for next time.  I don't blame them, the CC fees are difficult to justify for small businesses.  The entrance is awkward the first time you are there but sitting in the sun outside there little cafe is a great way to break from the work day!

I love Bubi's!!! The hot brunette behind the counter always lets me know when my favorite hot specials are. I love the beef chili, chicken enchiladas, mac n cheese, and calzones. Sandwiches are also good and the chef salad is great. My favorites, though, are the cookies. Sooo good. Raspberry thumbprint, lemon, oatmeal chocolate chip, everything's delicious.  But what really makes Bubi's awesome is the staff. Check out the pictures by the coffee and  you'll know what I'm saying.
