If you're into unique dining experiences, themed feasts, quality beer, or pirates, you need to put a visit to Bube's Brewery on your to do list. Located in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, this 19th century brewery and museum contains 4 extraordinary restaurants, live events, an unusual store, and an art gallery displaying works from local artists. Bube's has a very rustic, vintage atmosphere, as everything has been preserved as it existed years ago.
My experience with Bube's was in the Catacombs, an incredible restaurant located 43 feet underground in the old stone cellars where enormous wooden casks used to be full of aging beer. The atmosphere is beyond unique, as the quiet stone caverns are lighted only by candlelight atop a number of dinner tables. What an experience! Not to mention that the food was great and the service superb. They even provided a free dessert to help us celebrate a birthday in our dining party. I tried a few of the house brewed beers- an IPA that really threw me off because of it's unique maltiness and a red ale that was just perfect. My date tried a caramel apple martini that was equally delicious, and the prices for everything on the menu were very reasonable. Both the swordfish and the seafood mornay were wonderful.
All in all, dining in the Catacombs was an experience I will not soon forget, and I am already planning a return visit to try the other dining establishments at Bube's Brewery. Those include the original bar called Alois, the Bottling Works, and the outdoor Biergarten. Themed dinners also include Murder Mysteries, Roman Feasts, Medieval Feasts, Pirate Feasts, Halloween and Christmas Feasts.
Bube's is truly a must, try it for a romantic dinner, a fun themed evening, or just for something altogether different.
You can check out their upcoming events, menus and more on their website.

decent bar food...the beer they make on premises is very uneven. Some I like, others I really dislike. Neat old building and outdoor seating....Fun place to hang for a late night.
Okay, I've been here twice and both times were just "okay"...But to be fair, I've only been on the outside patio and in the bottling works to eat.
Their house brews are pretty good, I can't remember exactly which ones I've had but I know one was their belgian. When we ate in the bottling works, it was a weeknight and it was totally void of people, so it seemed a little weird. Food is okay, typical bar menu. Fun to go here with friends, next time I'm trying the catacombs out!

ARRRRR, Mateys!
I've been lucky enough to visit this great old establishment and have dined in the catacombs, bier garden, Alois Martini bar, and the bottling works. Until last sunday, though, I had not fully appreciated what Bubes has to offer! My brother was turning 27, and mom decided a great birthday event would be to attend the Pirate Feast in the Catacombs.
Be forewarned if ye be offended easily: the actors who play the pirates do it well, complete with sexual innuendos and dirty jokes. I almost fell of my chair laughing when one of the quite attractive pirate wenches unbuttoned my usually stoic Dad's shirt and started rubbing his chest at the table! For 10 or twenty bucks (this is where they make their money) they will give you or your unwitting victim a rubdown. Since it was, after all, my brothers birthday we couldn't resist slipping Ruby Wonder a ten to see what would happen.
In the middle of dinner she walked up behind him, pulled of his shirt, oiled him down and gave him a massage, which ended with her sitting on his lap and singing happy birthday. His girlfriend was mortified, and my folks and I were almost in tears laughing. You also eat family style, so you are a large table with a bunch of people you don't know.....or didn't know when you walked in. At one point a pirate was also drizzling hot wax onto the chest of a young lady sitting across from me.
The pirates also sang songs, had a plethora of low-brow jokes and stories, and generally entertained the crowd. I would highly recommend this feast, and I would love to go back for more with a larger group of rowdy friends.
Why only four stars if this was such a great time? The booze. We were at a brewpub, for Blackbeard's sake and they served us the Yeungling Lager! Now, I don't have anything against the ol pottsville swill, but when I know there is delicious micro brews on premise, I would much rather have a pitcher of that instead of 9 bucks for lager. It was still a great time, but at 40 bucks a person I would probably save it for special occasions.

Neat interior when it's not crowded or crazy loud with some awful band. Can't decide if it's a bar or a restaurant. Food is average; they are occasionally out of things.

Boob's? Boobies'? I couldn't understand where my sister said she was taking us!
Ahhh...now I see... Bube's! (I would have never stumbled upon this place if she didn't live here and discover it first.)
soooo, is this a restaurant, a bar, an art gallery, a brewery, a theater, a gift shop, or a haunted old hotel...???
YES
Okay, here's the deal. It's a super cool place with plenty of variety for various tastes in atmosphere and dining experiences...
-Fine dining in the catacombs (huh??) 40 some feet below street level
(they also offer theme event feast nights here...check the schedule in advance and reserve a table)
-Parlor dining with an extensive martini menu (limited hours)
-Bavarian style Biergarten dining centered around the steam generating boiler that runs the brewery (when the weather allows)
-the Bottling Works restaurant and tavern (this is where I ate)
-and tons more...I'll have to update this review after subsequent visits
So, we ate in the tavern, which offers a menu of appetizers, sandwiches, salads and "bar-food." I ordered the steak salad, which was very good. There were 7 of us eating and we all enjoyed our meals. They have an extensive beer selection-I didn't sample any on this visit. The food was good, the service was good-I think I was preoccupied with trying to comb through everything this place has to offer.
Overall, a unique gem tucked into a small unassuming town nestled between Harrisburg and Lancaster. I'd say check it out if you're headed to this region! I plan to go back!

Love this place! Was at a medieval feast a long time ago and it was definitely a fun experience. The regular bar and dining room area (I think its the bottling works, not sure the exact name) has fantastic food and an awesome atmosphere (think actual old bottling works). The drinks are great and everything is reasonably priced and you get your money's worth. They get some good bands and its always a fun time. Can't wait to sit in the biergarten when it gets warmer.

Pronounced (Boo-beez), which is good for a chortle, this is a place I found on a map search engine and am glad I took the time to visit. Tucked away in Mount Joy, the brewery building is a gem of antique architecture whose every nook and cranny have been perfectly utilized. The main bar is like an English pub, while stairs take you past huge wooden storage vats leading down to *catacomb* dining, and for those who are claustrophobic there is a delightful and spacious wooded biergarden open seasonally.
The beer offerings - draft and bottled - are ample and all in good taste - whatever your taste might be. The house ESB got rave reviews from us when we visited. The food choices are well thought out, carefully prepared, and generous despite the utterly reasonable prices.
The staff are friendly and thoughtful, too. This was the highlight of our trip to Cumberland County, and the best brewery we've pretty much ever been to, and we've seen more than our share. We would have liked to take it back with us if we could. I encourage everyone to visit if they are every passing by Mount Joy.

Two words "Cheese Balls"!
Bube's has been a great place to eat, whether it be down in the Catacombs or up in the Bottling Works. Haven't been to Alios' yet though.
The Bottling Works strikes me as an archetypical bar that one should see in a post-apocalyptic movie. Great beer and yummy food.
I've been to the Catacombs for feasts and for just a nice dinner with my husband. The feasts are great. I've been to the Medieval, Pirate and Halloween feasts. They are not for kids, having much quite authentic sexual innuendo going on. Hilarious though! A word of advice, dress lightly. A bunch of people in the caves makes it WARM! Add the hilarity and alcohol and you'll be wishing for a cool breeze, even if it's in the winter.

Very interesting place to visit from a historic point of view. We went there with 11 people and ate in the upstairs brewery section. The atmosphere was ok but is was a bit chilly for some of the people. Being an old stone building and February that is understandable. The waitress was fairly new and did her best. But the food was less than average. The food came out at different times so not everyone was eating as a group. I'm talking 15 to 20 minutes apart. Some of the food was cold. One plate was missing the vegatables. My burger was ordered medium but looked like a hockey puck when it arrived. The waitress did her best to keep us severed with drinks. Over looking the food I focused on the micro brews. Started with the sampler then switched to the Oatmeal Stout. Very good brew. Some of us spent time talking to one of the brew masters as he was grinding the grains for the next weeks recipes. That was very interesting if your in to brewing your own beers. Good tips from him. Overall the place itself was very interesting. But I wouldn't recommend the brewery section for a dinner. Apetizers and beers would be the only things I'd order again. I will probably go back again some time only to see more of the place and sample more of the brews. Since they only have small facilities to do the brewing they only have 5 of their own beers on tap, but they change over frequently to different styles of beer.
Second oldest brewery in PA I believe. What a cool place. I had a blast there. Excellent food. Great portions. Great entertainment. Cheap Eats and suds. Tons and tons of beers. Highly recommend.
