After a most excellent dinner at Sushi Sasabune, what better way to finish off the evening than dessert at Bubbies.
I've only had Mochi ice cream once before and it was a horrible experience for me because I was unlucky enough to get a mocha or coffee tasting mochi. I don't drink, nor do I like coffee. I love tea but that's besides the point.
Anyway, ended up having a strawberry and a guava mochi and I have to say it was pretty good. I enjoyed both but I have to say that I like the guava more than the other. I liked how the outer layer blends well with the soft cool inside and how it tastes, period. I can now say that I like mochi ice cream. I like mochi ice cream. -

"ice cream?"
" BUBBIES!!! "
Their mochi ice creams are amazing! I usually stick to the green tea and sakura or some chocolate one as i find a few of the others like lychee to be a bit sweet for me, but very good as well. I'm a HUGE fan of their strawberry cheesecake. if you're lucky, you'll bite into chunks of cheesecake :)
Came here last night and discovered the LI HING MANGO mochi ice cream. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMM :) i regretted only buying one. this is my new FAVORITE flavor. I think we all agreed on that last night when we each bit into our own li hing mango.
Parking here can be crappy at times. but i always seem to find parking if i wait a min or two.
The lines do get long. Out the door to the sidewalk long. But that just goes to show how delicious these are. and def worth the wait. -

Mochi ice cream. Whether you know what that means or not, this place is a must stop on your Oahu trip, just like Diamond Head and Hanauma Bay. They have at least a dozen flavors of mochi ice cream to try, and they're all delicious and better than what you'll find in stores.

The best ice cream shop ever!!!!!!
I love that it is a small mom & pop ice cream shop that makes small batches of really good ice cream and desserts. I have been going there since I was really little so it's a nostalgic place for me as well. Their ice cream is the smoothest, creamiest, and best tasting I've had anywhere. I am in love with their mochi ice cream (my favorites are chocolate espresso, lychee, and guava) and the multiple orgasm cake is AMAZING! They give you a HUGE slice of the dense ice cream cake made of layers of chocolate, coffee and oreo ice cream on a Oreo crumb crust topped with chocolate fudge and chocolate sprinkles. YUM!!!!
I don't think you can find a better ice cream shop anywhere! -
Review from Ed L.
I'm not sure how much locations Bubbie's has, but I know there are 2 and here is the 2nd one. The other would be in Hawaii Kai @ the Koko Marina shopping center. With that in mind, I wanted some ice cream but was turned off by what Frostcity had. I did go into Frostcity and tried to be more receptive of that business, but maybe I guess I just love my ice cream too much, versus anything else in the marketplace this days.
This Bubbie's is located in the Varisty Square mini shopping block, where Burger King is basically nearby, along with Kit N Kitchen, Rainbow Books, and Blazin Steaks, among other businesses in the area. It's great for University of Hawaii students and facility who need to get their ice cream on and don't like fro yo. The shop itself does not take credit or debit cards. Cash or in state checks only! I saw this on the door before I went in, so I made sure that I had enough cash on me.
I tried to get the mochi ice cream, but I just had to get my favorite flavor from their stash: the Dark Chocolate Chocolate chip. So insanely awesome. Top it off with the strawberry cheese cake ice cream on a waffle cone and you have yourself a fantasy of a treat that is bliss. The prices are not that bad, as a double scoop on waffle cone coated me like $4, so that wasn't that bad. Maybe next time I will do the mochi ice cream thing, but I just can't say no to the ice cream. The staff was good and the service was fast, since there was a long line.
The parking can be very scarce, but parking should be ok on the street and on Burger King's lot too. I don't think they check, if you are quick with your Bubbie's purchase. All I can say is that Bubbie's ranks 2nd to Cold Stone Creamery on my short list on where to go for premium ice cream. The others are Hagen Daz and Baskin Robbins, but nothing beats CCC.

Holy Smokes! This is great ice cream. I went to Hawaii with my girlfriend and was told by some friends to come visit this place and have some ice cream. If you visit Hawaii, come by and visit this place. You wont regret it. They even have a website for you to order from.

Must Order: Mochi Ice Cream Specials (key lime if they have it!) & Oreo ice cream
Bubbies fulfills the depths of my sweet tooth like no other. In fact when I was in college I applied to work at Bubbies and declined. In retrospect the con of that was being surrounded by awesome ice cream but the pro (which is a big one) is probably that I spared myself the additional 10-20 lbs that I would have packed on.
In any case, I make enough visits a year to be slightly concerned whenever I get near a scale.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Oreo ice cream. It's not like the typical cookies & cream ice cream you may see at the market. It's full-on Oreo no doubt about it ice cream. It greatly pleases the inner cookie monster in me.
I also love the mochi ice cream. There's no other place that you can find such a wide & tasty variety of mochi ice cream. Definitely check out their specials. I've tried their french toast (tastes like horchata!) and li hing mango (loved the mango!) but my favorite special was Key Lime. I loved it so much that I went back 3 days in a row to get my Key Lime mochi ice cream fix.
Bubbies is the bestesh! -

Bubbies is one of my Honolulu favs. The ice cream is flavorful and creative. The mochi ice is singular. Staff is friendly and dedicated to helping you have a great experience. More than just ice cream.

CASH ONLY!!
Bubbie's is just so much fun. Where else can you walk right up to someone and say "I'll have a Multiple Orgasm, please"??!
Oh yes, the ice cream names are...interesting.
This place is an ice cream lover's dream. They have soft serve, milkshakes, ice cream pies, sundaes, banana splits, and MOCHI ICE CREAM. You must try the mochi ice cream; it's what they're famous for!
If you come between about 10pm-midnight expect a big line and limited seating.
I brought some visiting friends here last year and they still say it was one of their favorite parts of the whole vacation (food wise, I mean). Seriously. -

i didnt realize how good bubbies mochi ice cream was until we tried it. it was so good. so much more than i had expected. every flavor tasted like you were actually eating the real thing. we tried the guava, strawberry dark chocolate chip, lychee and pumpkin mochi ice cream. the mochi soft and the ice cream creamy. if we had a freezer in our hotel room, i would have wanted to take a bunch for later ;) i remember going in the evening time and it was pretty crowded. theres a bunch of tables along the window and towards the back but fills up quick. the workers are very patient, especially since there are a million different flavors to choose from. there is also regular ice cream and i believe sundaes, but forget all that and just get their mochi ice cream! you wont regret it! cash only!

I tried: 2 strawberries, 2 candy canes, 1 vanilla, 1 green tea, 1 passion, 1 guava, 1 red velvet, 1 cranberry, 1 lychee and 1 azuka bean!!
I LOVED ALL OF THEM, but I wasn't crazy about the candy cane, cranberry or vanilla.
All in all, AMAAAAAAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) -

Bubbies probably has one of the best, if not the best, ice cream in Hawaii. There mochi ice cream is delicious! It is also a locally owned store with no tax!
Food: Who doesn't love mochi ice cream? They have many flavors! My favorite is the lychee and the li hing mango mochi! They also make milkshakes.
Service: Great people with great positive attitudes! They are pretty quick with orders.
Location: Near UH Manoa= big plus!
Seating: There aren't a lot of tables, but it does get crowded depending on what nights you go.
Parking: Small lot. Sometimes it is difficult to find parking. You might have to find street parking.
Note: It's a great place to hang out and catch up with friends. They also open late which is a big plus! -

LI HING MANGO MOCHI - number one thing you should order if you are here. It was their special and I had to come back for more!
Lychee and guava was good also but not as good as the li hing mango mochi.

Friendly service, great and delicious ice cream, and clean environment :)!
After coming here a dozen times, I really prefer their milkshakes now, but I get their funny sounding cakes every so often with the girlfriend (I love the "More Than a Mouthful" ice cream cake!). Unlike many other places, they make their shakes the traditional way, and not with blenders.
There's no tax here. The mochi ice cream is a great deal!
However, there is one con about this place! The Parking is HELLA TIGHT! Maybe I'm a little claustrophobic, but coming here on a busy night scares me when I have to park. Otherwise it is definitely a great place for ice cream, and it's close to campus! -

I just about gave up on this place.
Every time I came here, the line would be out to the street. I thought this place was becoming Boots n' Kimofied.
Not giving up, I came here with my wife, brother, and his girlfriend after dinner.
Place was empty! 6:30 Monday night.
I leaped to the counter and asked for as many samples as they would allow without charging me a pain-in-the-ass fee.
The Macadamia Nut ice cream was divine, so I got it. (No pun intended on the B n' K reference). They put it in that little cone that says "Hawaii" on it.
Jollies had? Check!
Protip: Dieters who don't want to gain 4 waist sizes in one sitting get the "fetal" size. It's really small and a quarter the price.
Now back to our story. Mochi ice cream balls are always a hit. Chewy, creamy, cold, ice cream headache goodness. I like it that when you bite into one you can blow steam.
Jollies had? Check twice!
Place got crowded quick just around 7 pm.
Riddle me this: why is it that even though the mean customer age is 16, they still name all their pies after something you would find on a NSFW site?
I guess having a multiple orgasm is so common here, no one thinks twice about it.
Jollies had? Check thrice! -

mochi ice cream !!!
I agree with Maggie C. lychee mochi is pretty awesome. Anyone planning a trip to Hawaii, should fit bubbies into their itinerary, if you are lactose willing/tolerant that is .... sorry vegans and those LI !
I have to admit that the first time I ever ate mochi ice cream, I did not like it. But with a few more trips to bubbies (and bites of friends mochi) it grew on me . . . and that is how I became addicted to mochi. If you never heard of mochi: Mochi is made from rice and can be molded into many forms . . . this case it is rolled into a little ball and stuffed with ice cream ... thus creating mochi ice cream. It has a dough-like consistency and has a sweet taste
Bubbies offers a lot more than just mochi. You can get many delicious types of sexually named ice cream flavors , fantastic ice cream sundaes and shakes. ( I am a chocolate peanut butter fan now and forever)
I always bring water with me to Bubbies . . . ice cream makes me soo thirsty after
What does bubbies ice cream do to you ?? hmm ??Listed in: oahu dazzle

Review from Krystn Y.
I was never really an ice cream LOVER before I had the "Bubbies Experience". Hahahaha
... No really though. I'm serious!
Bubbies is open quite late, has a handful of tables and indoor seating, a small, cramped parking lot right next to it, and usually a line going out the door, HOWEVER, the ice cream selection, the desserts, and the mochi ice cream choices are TO DIE FOR!
It's right next to the University of Hawaii at Manoa, a bar, a few restaurants, and Burger King, so that's probably why there's a never-ending supply of customers, BUT the line usually moves at a pretty decent pace, and the ice cream is SO worth the wait.
The ice cream prices are a little on the expensive side, and I can easily rack up a bill of $30 for a couple of cones, a couple pints of ice cream, and a handful of mochi ice cream pieces. Everything is VERY delicious though, and I can't help but coming back to get my favorite:
Mocha chip in a waffle cone with a pint of mocha chip to take home for later!!! -

I remember coming to Bubbies as a child. I finally returned after years and I must say...its just NOT the same. The quality went downhill. I used to love their Strawberry Cheesecake Icecream and found it very disappointing after eating it. I got 1 scoop in a cup. It was small and there was hardly any strawberry in my cheesecake ice cream. Very SAD.
I still love their Mochi Ice Cream...but I even think that it's gotten smaller thru the years. -

When my travel study group and I arrived in Oahu for our first day of class we were given a list of "things-to-do" by the groups from years past. At the top of that list was a place called "Bubbies", and by the end of our summer we had tried every single mochi ice cream flavor many many times over.
It wasn't always my decision to roll up to Bubbies on the daily, but being 1 of only 4 guys in a class of 28, I usually found myself here going down the list of flavors on their menu.
What to order:
-Sakura
-Lychee
-Green Tea
-Strawberry
Sakura was the most popular flavor for our group, and for a DOLLAR EACH you could go to town on Bubbies without having to worry about breaking the bank.
Bottom Line: if you're a ucla student studying at UH Manoa, you'll likely find yourself here 1...2...30 times during your stay.
Tip: if you're 21+ the nearest bar is right across the street ;) -

About a year ago, I had their Chocolate Hazelnut ice cream, and I swear it was the best--BEST--ice cream i have ever had. But of course, it isn't a regular flavor, so I have yet to ever see it again :( Please make it a regular flavor! At least give us a way to know when it will be available! Because I would love to have it again! I love hazelnut so much....
Every time I go, I cross my fingers to see if there is their chocolate hazelnut ice cream, but if not their other flavors are good too. I love their Oreo ice cream or Espresso ice cream. I'll usually order some espresso, lychee or azuki mochi ice cream to take home. They also have really good ice cream cake you can buy by the slice.
A local favorite--can't go wrong! There is always a bit of a crowd here since everyone loves Bubbies :) -

This is an old-fashion ice cream parlor that is a rare find these days. It is located off a smaller street by the record store and the private parking lot is next to the store.
The mochi were delicious. We got the red bean, lychee, and the passion fruit. Mostly importantly, you should get a slice "MULTIPLE ORGASM" ice cream cake. We followed the advices of other yelpers and they weren't lying about it. This slice was phenomena. We shared it together and we were dying from how delicious it was. If you're two girls, you should definitely share so you can try as much as you can, especially if you are not locals.
When I visit Oahu again, I will definitely be stopping by Bubbies again. -

Lychee.
Green tea.
Chocolate peanut butter.
All were big wins.
But not sure why they don't have standard chocolate ice cream mochi. They only have chocolate espresso, chocolate mint, chocolate dipped vanilla, etc., or chocolate peanut butter. So strange that they wouldn't have just plain chocolate!
Anyway, the mochi are $1 each and they put your order in a plastic bag or container, depending on how much you purchase.Listed in: Oahu Hot Spots

Review from Kenyan K.
Bubbies has awesome ice cream. I used to eat here often when I went to UH but now only come once in a while. My favorite is the multiple orgasm. This has chocolate, Oreo, and coffee ice cream layered in a cake with Oreo crumbs on the bottom and chocolate frosting with sprinkles on the top. All their stuff has sexual names; it's pretty funny.
They have a crazy variety of mochi ice cream which you can buy individually or cheaper in bulk. Some of the flavors are sold in grocery stores as well.
It gets crowded here and they stay open late at night. The seating area inside is also limited. The parking lot is very small and even street parking can be scarce. -

Bubbies ice cream IS THE BOMB! You can't go wrong with ANY flavor of mochi ice cream! The flavors are so rich! My favorite flavor is the chocolate orange... it doesn't come around too often, but when I see it... it mochi or ice cream form... I TEAR IT UP! 3 THUMBS UP FOR BUBBIES!

Review from Bon C.
Last year we came across the bubbies mochi ice cream by chance at a coffee shop. I loved it then. So this time we made it a point to visit this location. My husband, daughter and I bought 6 mochi ice cream to share. Our favorites were the vanilla, adzuki bean, white chocolate raspberry, and green tea. I wish they had this back home. The place is pretty small but when we went on a weekday around 6pm, it wasn't busy. But we parked in the burger king parking lot because their lot was full.

My favorite ice cream shop on the island!
So hard to decide between a simple chocolate ice cream cone and one of their awesome mochi ice creams. Everything else is delicious too, but I keep going back for my faves.
I'm glad we don't live too close or we'd go more often and my diet would go out the window! -

Mission: Mochi ice cream balls
I accomplished that with two stops at Bubbies (this location and the one at Koko Marina).
Flavors are AWESOME and the texture was perfect. NOM! Little ice cream pillows of heaven. WANT TO STUFF ENTIRE FACE WITH THESE COLORFUL CREATIONS.
The regular ice cream is just as delicious. If you can't make it to their shops, they are selling Bubbie's everywhere (saw it at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf). -

I recently came back here with my sister over spring break after skipping this place on our annual trip. As a driver this time, it was so hard to find! I remembered it was hidden somewhere in the back, and then my sister spotted it. Good thing, too!
Ahh. I love their mochi ice cream. It tasted just as great as I remembered years ago. I was a very happy camper. :] I liked the green tea and guava and the mint chocolate chip. :]1 Previous Review: Show all »

ICE CREAM TRUCK NEED NOT APPLY!
Calling all ice cream lovers, and mochi lovers of all kine, gather around the most amazing ice cream you'll encounter with in your life on this island, that right, just this island. Located right off of university, you'll find Bubbies ice ceam tucked away, so people can purposely NOT find it. I've been here numerous times during high school and this place may raise it's prices (this is neither confirmed or denied) but it really doesnt get old or lose flavor. Highly recommend the green tea mochi or ice cream, depending on your mood of the day. It give off that green tea-ness with that creamy feeling that just makes you want more! The milkshake however i'm sadly to report was too milky for my taste. It just took away the essence of the green tea. OH! and you MUST try sakura mochi. it's so good, i can't even explain how it tastes. just believe and eat! -

I am not an ice cream lover, but my friend said I need to try this place out and have to try the mochi ice cream.
I ordered the strawberry, vanilla and peanut butter. It's pretty damn GOOD!
Now I want some mochi ice cream!!
They are strict on bring outside food in so don't attempt it. Also parking is terrible. Very limited and tight. Better off parking at Burger King and walk over. -

Mochi ice cream is the new cupcake and if you haven't tried one yet, then you're lame. If you still need encouragement, then here are a few reasons to go to Bubbies:
*You won't forget your FIRST NIGHT at Bubbies
*Finishing a whole slice of ice cream cake is TOTAL INSANITY, but totally worth it
*I swear, eating a dozen mochies will give you MULTIPLE ORGASMs (if not a stomach ache)
*The line at Bubbies may get long but if you wait patiently, you won't be RUNNING ON EMPTY for long
*Listing off all my favorite mochi flavors is MORE THAN A MOUTHFUL
*Bubbies KEEPS IT UP ALL NIGHT until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays
I L-LO-LO-LOVE BUBBIES!! -
Review from Mike L.
For my FINAL Hawaii review (for now anyways...), I decided to save my favorite place for last...Bubbies!
If you're familiar with the Mikawaya brand of mochi ice cream they sell at Asian markets (the one in the black and tan box), they should give you an idea as to what Bubbies' mochi ice cream looks like. However, they don't taste nearly as good. Seriously, Bubbies blew my mind. I loved how creamy their ice cream was and how the mochi was thicker and more flavorful than Mikawaya's. It can seem like an eternity waiting for them to soften up before you can dive in, but it's well worth it in the end!
Over our two trips to Bubbies (on back-to-back nights!), my friend and I were able to try most of the dozen or so flavors they had available. If we weren't flying out the next day (or if we had gone to Bubbies earlier on), we would have made our way through the rest of them too...along with the other assorted desserts Bubbies sells. All of the flavors I tried were pretty good for the most part, but my favorites were Passion Fruit and Guava, followed closely by the Azuki Bean. Lychee, Green Tea, and Chocolate Espresso were really good as well, but I'd suggest skipping Sakura and Chocolate Mint since they weren't as good as the rest.
Considering they're just down University from the UH campus, Bubbies is pretty popular with tourists, locals, and students alike. In fact, it's probably a good thing I didn't go to UH like how I wanted to in high school since I might have been here all the time! Until my next trip to Oahu though, I'll just have to check out Whole Foods and see if it's really true that they have Bubbies in their freezer aisle. If they do, there's a good chance I'll do all of my grocery shopping there from now on.Listed in: ALOOOOOOOOOO-HAAA!

Definitely great place to get mochi - especially for dessert. Awesome ice cream mochis and ice cream cakes/pies.
The mochi ice cream is $1 a piece. My boyfriend and I got a total of 6 while we were there - chocolate peanut butter, coconut, azuki bean, mango, passionfruit and vanilla. The azuki bean was by far my favorite! The mochis are pretty frozen, so we waited a little bit (until the mochi was soft) before devouring the rest.
Open late, limited seating and can get pretty crowded. -

You can't just eat one.
Mochi ice creams are $1 each or 3 for $2.95. Just go for the 3 order, you'll save yourself from having to wait in line twice.
We ordered: guava, green tea, lychee. Like them all, liked the lychee the best. They're small so it's not hard to eat 3 yourself. They serve them super frozen so you can eat them hard or wait until they soften up a bit. This is also one place open late in Honolulu so it's a great place for a late night snack.Listed in: Brok da Mouf in Oahu
