Yay for my favorite ice cream! I love Bubbies! My husband would eat it every day if he could.
My favorite is the macadamia nut ice cream. But their ddccc (double dark chocolate chocolate chip), mint chocolate chip, and strawberry are all delicious. Everyweek or so they bring in new short term flavors. I've tried a bunch and they are all good but always go back to macadamia nut.
Their macadamia nut is the only ice cream that actually tastes like Mac nut. It isn't vanilla with Mac nuts mixed in like most people which is why it's so good.
And you can't go wrong with the Michigan ice cream. My favorites are mint chocolate, mocha chocolate aand strawberry. Lately they've had li hing mango which my husband really likes. And they had a mint Oreo which was yummy.
Oh and i wanted to mention that the Hawaii kai location is awesome because the line is never super crazy like the university location. The ice cream is totally worth the wait either way but no line is just a nice perk.
Mmmm...now I'm hungry.... -

This place should be named BUBBLES instead, because that's what happens to your ice cream as soon as they take it out of the refrigerated case. Why is that you might ask????? Cause its like a g.d. sauna in this place. Paid a visit to this place last night on what was a warm Wednesday evening. As soon as a I walked in this place, ... I began to sweat like hooker in church on Sunday. I even overheard a couple passing on their way out saying "let's get out of here as quick as possible before our ice cream melts". Even the workers there were like we should file a worker's compensation claim for working in this heat. I visit this place less and less for a reason, but when I do go there, ... I can count the heat, limited ice cream selection, dark/dank out dated interior, way too many chairs for how little business they do and also for how hot it is in there, a piano that I haven't seen work in years, and a darkened showcase that is plastered with signage.
Seriously, ... why does this place exist? This place is such a huge waste of space. The showcases that are supposed to display are dark and covered with signs, ... and this has been the case well before my last review 4 months ago. Fix it or get rid of it. This place is hanging on by a thread. Its been a fixture @ Koko Marina for a long time, but we can only sympathy patronize this place for so long before its time to just let it go.1 Previous Review: Show all »

THIS BUBBIES ACCEPTS PLASTIC!!!!
Oh-my-god! I've waiting for so long for this moment! I hate pulling out cash every time I just want to buy less than $10 worth of mochi ice cream. Thank you sooooo much for accepting credit cards. Once the girl behind the counter told me this fact, I was pretty much jumping for joy! :)
Btw- this treat is absolutely delish and a great reward for the post-koko head hike. -

You know what is so great about this place? My husband actually WANTS to go out to ice cream with me when I mention Bubbies. Not that he doesn't like going out with me, but I LOVE ice cream and I love to suggest ice cream for dessert. I'm a big dessert kind of girl. He, on the other hand is a main meal kind of man. He'd eat his dinner and then for dessert order a steak or burger. So for a place to win his heart over enough to actually make him want dessert definitely makes this a great place in my book.
But seriously. On to the important things.
I ALWAYS bring visitors here after being on that side of the island. And every visitor I have brought thus far loves it! I love the chocolate ice cream, plain and simple - but love it. My husband loves the mochi. Any flavor really. Guava mochi is my favorite!
Next on to try for me: The shakes! I had some visitors try the malts and they loved it.
I also love the service. They are always so friendly. And patient, which is key because usually when I bring out of town visitors - it takes FOREVER for them to decide what they want. So I appreciate the patience these guys have.
All around - it is always a big hit with everyone! -

The mochi here are like little balls of love! I couldn't decide which flavor I wanted so I ended up getting a bunch and they were all deeeelicious! Perfect for a light dessert (or, if you're like me, breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner, supper ...)
You can't go wrong with the Oreo ice cream! It's their most popular flavor for a reason! :) -

Bubbies' coconut pineapple mochi ice cream is sooooo stinkin' good. I've also tried the guava and salted caramel but was underwhelmed by both... maybe because the coconut pineapple was so delicious.
Anywho, you should go here and try the coconut pineapple mochi ice cream. Coconut pineapple. The end. -

OMG I love this place love love love! The owner is nice too I have known him for years and does a lot to help out the Hawaii Kai community. This place is open late night until 11 so if you are dying for sugar or ice cream this is the place to go.
I always get their oreo ice cream hmmm omg it's actually a grey color because of how many oreos they have mixed in there. But what everyone goes for is the Mochi ice cream personally I like the chocolate coconut and haupia and passion fruit and lilikoi sometimes they have chocolate mint and it tastes like a frozen girl scout cookie hmmm also chocolate raspberry is good. Everything is good here so just taste everything and get what you want. You will love the grandaddy piano you put a quarter in and the old timey feel in this place.
Def check it out! -
Review from Ed L.
I was craving ice cream one afternoon and I found Bubbies at the Koko Marina Shopping Center. My other choices nearby was Safeway and Kokonuts Shave Ice and Snacks. Being that I was without a car that day and relied on da bus, I decided to check out Kokonuts. The line was super long, which stretched out the door. I peaked my head to see the menu and all they were really known for was the custom made shaved ice. I felt like this was like the Cracked Seed Store in Kaimuki, just a bit more fancier and in Hawaii Kai. With that said, I ventured to Bubbies, since I came here before and knew their product pretty well.
The line was long, as the tourists were there snapping up some choice flavors for their outting in Hawaii Kai and probably Hanauma Bay. The server was cute, but looking at the long line and the work that needed to be done, she had the facial expression like she didn't want to be there, but she smiled to everyone who came to her register. I ultimate had to try the DDCCC, which I assumed it was Double Dark Chocolate Chip. I could be wrong though. 2 scoops with waffle cone came out to be $5.50. Not too shabby.
The store takes credit cards, versus Kokonuts which is cash only. Best bet is to do Bubbies. The store itself was nice. A few tables and a strangely nice decor that would please anyone who walked through the door. They have weird names for their ice cream concoctions though. I guess you just got to go there and read em off the menu for yourselves.
Compared to Cold Stone Creamery, this place is #2 for sure. -

If you like mochi ice cream or are obsessed with it like I am, then you need to get your butt to Bubbies ASAP. Did I mention they now have a RED VELVET mochi ice cream?
That's right I said it.
Just go now.

Review from Dean H.
I was very happy to see Bubbies out there in Hawaii Kai that afternoon since I know that my daughter LOVES ice cream MUCH better than shave ice, whose kid is she anyways??? Ha ha!
She is an oreo cookies and cream kinda girl and she got what she wanted with a smile. The wait staff here was very kind and helpful. She seemed to enjoy the ice cream so I am assuming it was very good. I usually get the green tea ice cream at the university one and I am sure it wouldn't have disappointed.
The only thing was that they didn't have a bathroom. Why do all Bubbies not have a bathroom? Why oh why! OK, I am done ranting now.
Bubbies is a crowd pleaser whether they have a bathroom or not.
Go get yourself some good stuff, go get yourself some Bubbies fat filled ice cream....winner...

Bubbies!! One of my favorite memories about Bubbies is when I went to UHM one summer. Such a happy little place (not this locatoin though).
I got the macadamia coconut which was delicious but I kid you not my scoop was like 2 ounces :( I had brought my entire family here after Haunama Bay and we all had ice cream on our mind after being in the sun. I wish it was a good experience for my family the way I remember Bubbies. Instead the person that scooped our ice cream wasn't very happy even when we told her a few jokes. Never cracked a smile and she served a man that jumped the line. Also, 3 of us had to order a second serving of ice cream just to feel like we had ice cream!
Sigh sigh...I hope this was a one off. I love the ice cream enough to give it 3 stars but the staff needs to cheer up! :) -

It's been over a year since I gave this location a try...
I couldn't see much of the menu because I had surgery on my eye. I had my big sunglasses on. When I approached the cashier, I asked what flavors of mochi ice cream they had left (since it was later in afternoon, & I was told they run out fast). She pointed to the menu; so I apologized that I couldn't see it & took off my glasses & told her I had eye surgery. She was a bit rude after. The guy behind me asked me if I needed help reading anything else.
I ordered a dozen mochi ice cream to-go, but wanted them to hold on to the order until I left. When I went back to the cashier to ask for my mochi ice cream, (the same girl) rang up the total and told me how much it was. I told her, I paid for it already. There may have been about 5 other people after me; but did she really forget me? I told her exactly what was ordered and she looked inside and gave me my bag.
Other than that weird experience...
The menu seems interesting enough for me to step out of my comfort zone of my favorite mochi ice cream. I shall try another time.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Back to Oahu, and where do I go? Bubbies!! After a year away and trying all other mochi ice cream that I could find in LA, I've upped a star for Bubbies because they are the BEST!! My brother even bought 2 tubs worth (~60 pieces) for his wedding. This location is the perfect stop after snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, but the location on University Ave. in Waikiki is open later (midnight I think).
Favorites: Espresso (a must for coffee lovers), Guava, and Lychee
Tip: you can buy Bubbies Mochi Ice Cream at Whole Foods (at least you can in Los Angeles), but they only sell a few flavors: blueberry, green tea, vanilla, mango, and white chocolate raspberry.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Keep in mind I've only been here once, but I'm pretty convinced the one scoop ice cream I had from Bubbies was one of the best scoops of ice cream I've ever had. And I'm kind of an ice cream connosseur -- ok not really, but I'm a big ice cream fan!
I had one scoop of their espresso with chocolate covered graham crackers. After one taste, I suddenly had a regret: that I only got one scoop!
Perfect treat at any time of day! I'll definitely be back to try their mochi!Listed in: Hawaii!

I like this location a lot better than the one by university. First of all there is a chokeload of parking. Its in nice Koko marina and its a great vibe, kind of farther drive if you live in town, but I say if I had the craving for ice cream I would drive here.
The inside is not really cold like the university one also. Employees here are really friendly, to me more friendly than the ones at university. Everytime I come here it is usually not extremely packed and the wait isn't long. Also there is a lot of GOOD eye candy (pretty ladies) that come here so you are not missing out. HAHA Anyway the ice cream here is great, lots of flavors to choose from I usually get the mochi ice cream, it is 6 for 5.75 and i think 12 for 10.75. There are flavors ranging from the traditional chocolate, strawberry and vanilla, to things like guava and green tea. I love the green tea one! Also some advice if you are sharing flavors, pick flavors that don't tend to have the same colors. Like if you get coffee and chocolate or mint, they are all brown, so its going to be like a lottery pick trying to find out which one is the right flavor.
Great place for ice cream! They have all kinds of things from cones to pies, to milk shakes and of course mochi ice cream! Like a good friend of mine said I could just sit down and eat mochi ice cream all day, EVvERY DAY! -
Review from Rob C.
4.5 worth coming here for the mochi ice cream (good size). sampled a bunch of flavors including lychee, green tea, azuki, salted caramel, lilikoi, but I think sticking to the fruit flavors are the best. salted caramel, was slightly too artificial tasting. lychee was the best.
you can get this at whole foods! -

It's strange how I'm writing another review on Bubbies especially when I wrote about the one in Moiliili. Nonetheless, Bubbies will always be Bubbies and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that right? If I'm writing a review on the Bubbies located at Koko Marina Center in Hawaii Kai, then that's exactly what I'm gonna do so here goes nothing.
I rarely come to this Bubbies unless I'm in Hawaii Kai going hiking with friends. If I have friends that wanna eat something sweet, then for sure we're all gonna stop by here and eat a delicious dessert after a brutal exhausting hike. This is the perfect place for a post-hike session and I can't think of anywhere else except Bubbies as the place you'd wanna come after finishing a hike to cool off.
Not only Bubbies is the perfect place for post-hike sessions, it's also the perfect place for post-beach day sessions after you come from the beach and you're craving to eat something deliciously sweet to satisfy your appetite. If you're coming from any of the beaches on the east side such as Hanauma Bay, Sandy Beach, or Makapuu Beach, then you'll definitely wanna come to this Bubbies.
If I had to choose which is my favorite Bubbies on this island, then it's absolutely hands down the one in Hawaii Kai and for a very good reason; it's not as crowded as the one in Moiliil, there's no line out the door, and it's real easy to find parking since this Bubbies is located at Koko Marina Center. -

Awesome ice cream. I'm not an ice cream fan but any time I'm around the area I got to make a stop for some mint chocolate chip ice cream in a waffle cone. Today wasn't the best of service. We were rushed to make our order and while sitting there trying to enjoy our delicious creamy treats the workers were talking about personal problems loudly. Got irritated so we decided to go sit outside. Besides obnoxious workers, the ice cream is awesome.

This was the first time I have ever tried Mochi ice cream and I'm a huge fan!!! It was supa ono! I tried the vanilla, red velvet cake, and the salted caramel. The colder the ice cream the better so you should eat it quickly, when it starts to melt the mochi gets a little doughy to me. I would def recommend the salted caramel SOOOOO GOOD!!!

I don't care much for fancy ice creams or creative desserts. I ran, literally, 2.4 miles just to load up on 3 pieces of heavenly Green tea Mochi ice creams one night... that was my ultimate motivation to get in shape. Seriously though, I have been running more ever since that one fine mochi night.
Bubbies is somewhere I like to go on first date-after dinner- late night-dessert, to flirt and indulge carelessly.
This place is ice cold for heart warming conversations with best friends.
The hot drinks are well matched with the concoction of creative desserts to catch up on the latest gossips and endless sharing.
Despite spending more money than worth @ some fine dining experiences- this place will hit the spot for the much anticipated desserts alternative .
I heart Bubbies @ University Ave. Enough said! -
Review from Sandy S.
The best mochi ice cream I've tasted so far. The outer mochi layer was so thin and the fact that there was a lot of ice cream inside was the best part!!! I would go back for more if I wasn't so mochi-ed out from stuffing myself the last time I was there...
Btw, I have no favorite flavors...I tried the li hing mango, green tea, cantaloup, espresso, lychee, azuki bean...all were good! -

I scream for ice cream especially since this was the theme of the Tweetup that was held at the Koko Marina Center Bubbies Homemade Ice Cream and Desserts.
After my honey and I ate at Teddy's Bigger Burger, we were on time to the Ice Cream Tweetup and stood in line to order our dessert. My honey ordered the dark chocolate chocolate chip while I had the Mocha Chip Ice Cream.
There is something about coffee-flavored ice cream that is my kryptonite. I get weak in the knees and eat the entire waffle cone as well.
Overall experience:
Price--it's in the same ball park as Cold Stone and other ice cream parlors
Ambiance--old fashioned ice cream parlor style that is spacious with tables that can be put together for big groups. Entire place was clean.
Service--great. There were two on staff that night but they handled the crowd with ease.
So, with big recommendations--if you finished watching a movie at the Koko Marina Theaters, hiking, or swimming and craving for ice cream? Stop by the Koko Marina Shopping Center to check out Bubbies.Listed in: Eating Adventures with the…

Review from Sheron C.
I have always adored the deliciousness that is Bubbies ice-creams and desserts.
However, my experience there last week just made me warm and fuzzy and I wanted to share the goodness.
My friends and I stopped in there after dinner and were ecstatically enjoying our sinfully rich sundaes when a family of five, with fairly small children came in. They got their deserts, which they were sharing and were just sitting down when one of the kids knocked over their bowlful of mochi ice-cream to the floor.
The girl behind the counter cheerfully got them replacements at no cost, and without making either the parents, or the kids feel bad. Not every dessert/ice-cream place does this you know! And that is why I am a customer for life.
Thank you for treating your customers like they and their business (not just their money) is appreciated. :)Listed in: Best Small Portions, My Neighborhood

I've been coming here since small kid times for mochi ice cream and the fresh mango and lychee ice cream. They use fresh (and I'm guessing at least partly local) ingredients to make their fruit ice creams! I like that you can pick your own size scoop (it's priced by the ounce) and customize. The mochi ice cream is not cheap, but it is WAY better than that crappy store-bought Samurai brand stuff - the mochi is thin and the ice cream is creamy and flavorful.

So I'm a Yogurt convert, but decided to revisit a place I used to love as a kid: Bubbies. I wish I had left my ice cream loving ways a memory because this was a bad experience.
I ordered 3 pieces of mochi ice cream (because when you stick a ball of ice cream in mochi, it becomes much, much more), the sakura, mint chip and green tea. The cashier gives it to me in a bowl, so I clarify that I wanted it to-go. She hands it back to me in a bag. A mini-size plastic grocery bag.
Let me reiterate: 3 pieces of ice cream mochi. in. a. bag. Has this happened to anyone else? Anyway, the ice cream mochi tasted okay, but ended up not being worth the rush of getting back home to the freezer. I'll stick to my yogurt and leave the ice cream to the Bubbies diehards giving this place 5 stars. -

I wish we had Bubbies in California! The ice cream flavors are all phenomenal and the mochi ice cream just makes it over the top!
This exact location is slightly more expensive ($1.10/mochi) than the Waikiki location on University ($1.00/mochi), but it does serve different ice cream flavors.. my favorite: Strawberry Yogurt! Completely orgasmic! I wish I could have packed it home.
Of all the mochi flavors I tried, my personal favorites would be strawberry, passion fruit, and green tea. The azuki and chocolate peanut butter are also good. I'd skip on the lychee and guava regardless of popularity as their flavors are a bit muted in my opinion.
Definitely though, Bubbies is worth the stop! I stopped by twice on my trip to Oahu! Most amazing Mochi Ice Cream evarrrr. After being Hawaii's 25-year kept secret, PLEASE COME TO CALIFORNIA! -

Everything is delicious. I love their vanilla, oreo, green tea, and azuki bean ice cream. I love how it's weighed so it's fair to everyone. They also update with special flavors that are just delicious.
Their mochi ice cream is the best! I think I've tried almost all of their flavors, and I don't have one I don't like. I definitely recommend this place. It's nice and cozy, and the workers are really friendly. There's always seating when I go, which is a plus! -

I love ice cream! Whenever I'm in the area either after a day at the beach, or from a hike, this place is a must stop at for a treat!
Service is fast and friendly. Parking is free. And there's a good selection of flavors and other items to choose from. Oh, and their menu items have cool names! Years ago, my friends and I shared "Eat My Balls" which is a scoop of every flavor that had. The experience and the memories are priceless!
My favorites: Oreo, blueberry cheese cake, strawberry cheese cake, and the mint chocolate chip.
Bubbies will always be a favorite place of mine. -

I scream, you scream, we all scream Ice CREAM!!!!!
If heaven had a flavor, it would certainly come from Bubbies. If the mood for ice cream or a dessert strikes me, you will certainly find me at Bubbies. They offer the best ice cream I have ever eaten and they offer a quality product of a bygone era.
As soon as you enter the shop, the wooden paneling catches and antique-style chandeliers catch your eye, however it is the smell of a freshly made waffle cone that prompts your nose to enter far before your feet takes you.
While you are greeted by the fragrant aroma, it is the showcase of ice creams that catch your eye. When asked, I respond with the same magical words..."Chocolate, bowl, two scoops." As soon as the words are uttered, I can hear harps and the choirs of heaven rejoicing. While chocolate is my favorite, don't let the thought of other flavors deter you from choosing something else. If you want something different, be sure to try one of their mochi ice creams as well. They come in more colors and flavors than a rainbow and all offer wonderful profiles complemented by pillowy soft mochi.
No questions...go to Bubbies for all of your ice cream needs. Even if you are lactose-intolerant, go there. It will well be worth all the pain and agony you will be in later...
oh to add to some of your pain and agony, bring cash. they do accept credit cards, however there is a small fee involved!Comment from WINTON S. of Bubbies Homemade Ice Cream & Desserts 4/8/2011

I was deciding between an ice cream mochi or just a scoop of ice cream. When I found out that the scoop of ice cream is charged by the ounce, I wanted to try both! I ordered a small scoop of coco-demia ice cream and a guava ice cream mochi (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). Of course you can tell the worker how small or big you want your scoop. The mochi was good and the skin was easy to chew through. The coco-demia ice cream was delicious! There was a lot of coconut flavour in it and there were whole macademia nuts. I wish they were chopped macademia nuts so that it was more evenly distributed in the ice cream.

When I saw that Hawaii had so many mochi ice cream shops, I wanted to try as many as I could. I only got to two because they either closed when I remember or was too far from where I was at. This one closes late midnight I believe and they actually have a deal. i think it was a dozen for 10? Or something or Just 1 dollar a piece. They have some chocolate dipped one that cost a little bit more. I got all them except the dipped ones. Really good snack and its fun just to order it.

OMG! LOOK! LOOK!
Just look at all these faithless non-believers of New Year's Resolutions standing in front of me in this long ass line and taking up space at an ice cream shop!
Everything is great here! I'm the wrong person to ask really about particulars since I was born in a perpetual state of pregnancy food cravings... No really you could walk me in blindfolded and go ini mini miny moe and order whatever, throw in some crayons and a coloring book and I'm a good little well behaved boy for about 10 minutes in the corner.
Can't go wrong with Mochi ice cream though... but getting back to my favorite subject(ME), I really do think they should stab the mochi ice with a chopstick cuz a fork just doesn't do it. I forgot where I saw them do it but a stabbed Mochi Ice cream is super easy to eat, you just gnaw away at the edges without getting your fingers all floury.... this technique is kind of like how I eat Cheetos with chopsticks so I don't get the orange crap on my fingers while snacking on the computer... which is also like when George from Seinfeld eats a snickers bar with a knife and fork... hahahahaha...
All this talk has made pregnant cravings come again... someone go next door to Papa John's and order a pizza so I can pour this milkshake over it and eat it... -

I'm always screaming for ice cream and Bubbies is the place where I go if I'm not in the mood for store-bought ice cream.
Just to give a basic rundown...
PRICE: Is a little spendy.
ATMOSPHERE: Relaxed, but whenever I go it's really crowded. I feel like everytime I go it's my high school reunion... know what I mean?
THE GOODS: ARE GOOD. I'm all for the Green Tea Ice Cream. Really delicious and it actually tastes like real green tea compared to that yucky fro-yo goop at Yogurtland. -

After a long day at Hanauma Bay, stopped by Koko Marina for some ice cream. The ice cream was very good, the staff friendly and plenty of inside seating. Had a variety of flavors to choose from and all that we tried were very good. I know there are other choices in the shopping center, but I recommend Bubbies for a cold treat.
