THE BEST BURGERS ANYWHERE!
OK, I'm biased because I worked there and really liked my bosses and co-workers, but now that I'm back in Chicago, I must say that the meat quality, the spices, the build of the burgers, the customer service, ambiance, hours...EVERYTHING WAS 100% A+!
I miss Bubba's! -

Fries are a weak burger's flavor crutch.
The double buffalo cheeseburger here earns four stars from me standing alone.
I'd give it a fifth if the bun were more substantial; but the classic style they have is plenty good. -

I love me a good burger especially when I can get a healthier version. Here I get a lean and mean burger that is juices and plenty flavorful. It is definitely a no frills place but that's ok because I am here for their delectable burgers. The meat is always delicious and juicy on a fresh soft hamburger bun. Don't skip out on the jalapeno potato salad which is tangy and has a fresh kick to it.
The best part....buffalo meat is leaner then Turkey so I don't feel as guilty indulging in one of these burgers. -
Review from Kellie Y.
I drive past here all the time while I bring my sister to school. It's a shack so it looks run down and grungy but I noticed there's always cars there. Now that my sister is about to graduate I finally decide hmmm maybe I should try this place out!
I got the buffalo mushroom jack burger. It's my first time eating buffalo meat so yay I can check that off my bucket list. The burger is a good size and tasted fresh. The meat tastes healthier compared to a regular hamburger. Don't get me wrong, it's still juicy but it was dripping with oil or greasy like most hamburgers. I also got the jalapeño potato salad and I must say it's probably the best potato salad I've tasted. It was spicy yet the potatoes were just perfect.
Overall, the ambiance is really what I liked. Nothing beats sitting under a highway hearing cars pass by while you eat a scrumptious burger and sip on some root beer so relaxing! :) -

If you can go there.... GO! This was my first taste of a buffalo burger and it was FANTASTIC! I didn't know buffalo burgers existed, nor that they were one of the healthiest meats to eats or that they would taste SO GOOD. I ordered a beer with mine and everything down to the chips were awesome. They have great recipes. Service is also great. Hands down, HIDDEN GEM. Don't miss out. ;)

Yes, the food's still good, but I feel like the service is slipping a bit. Last time I was there, my table waited FOREVER for our food. It turned out they had lost our order and had to redo it (after 30 minutes). I was really surprised when they didn't offer to give us our order for free after all the trouble--all we got were a few bags of chips. Not only that, but the guy working at the counter was in a really bad mood and not particularly friendly. I don't know if he was just having a bad day, but that's still no excuse.
Come on, Bubba's; I love your burgers, but I would appreciate great service to accompany great food.1 Previous Review: Show all »

OK. I am now a fan. I had to try this place because it's so close to my work location since we moved.
The location is a little off-the-wall under the over-pass on Westpark at Rice but I think that adds to the character. There's not a lot of seating inside and only a little more outside but it really doesn't matter. This place is about the burger.
The first trip I had the beef burger. The lady behind the counter tried to talk me into their Buffalo Burger but I was having none of that on this trip. If I was going to return and try the Bison, they were going to show me they could make a good all-American beef burger first. They did and it was awesome.
I had the Buffalo Burger on the second trip and now I'm hooked. It was indeed better than the beef burger so now I will only order buffalo from Bubba's.
For the prices they charge, I won't be going to waste money at the fast food burger joints anymore either. Plus you can call ahead and your order will be waiting when you get there.Listed in: Houston, Business Lunch

This place has so much character! It's kind of hard to find and park because it's under the freeway but is worth the effort.
Note: They're veggie burgers only contain lettuce, tomato, and pickle. Personally, I think they should have a more substantive vegetarian option but I understand -- It's a burger shack. In short, this place is not vegetarian friendly.
I don't like hamburgers but my date loves them and I really wanted to see the place, so I agreed on going. I ended up getting a veggie burger with bacon (lol) on whole wheat and it was delicious. It was basically a BLT. I was not expecting it so be so good. The jalapeno potato salad was lacking jalapenos. I couldn't taste any spiciness, but I am happy they offered a side that wasn't the standard french fries.
My date got a buffalo burger with bacon on whole wheat and seemed to really love it.
Everything is served on paper products and the whole place looks kind of run down but in the most awesome way. -

Ok,
So let's begin. This place is quintencential American, so it really is cool. I went here recently mainly to help a friend's friend get a little taste of America while he was in Houston traveling from London.
Americana at its finest. Nothing special, truly just good. Go for the Buffalo burger, they don't serve fries, but go for the chips, any chips, just as a way to enhance the meal.
Go if you are just willing to try something new. Go back again when you realize that this place is great!
I'll see you there! -

As far as burgers joints go, Bubba's Texas Burger Shack has to be my favorite in Houston. Everything about the place; the location, the building, the look/feel, music and of course the food, is exactly what comes to mind when I think of a good burger joint.
The buffalo burgers at Bubba's are quite possibly some of the best burgers that I have ever tasted. They put some sort of delicious seasoning and marinade on their meat that is just unequaled. Now, I've had those fancy Kobe burgers covered in foreign cheese and condiments pressed between a fresh baked bun and while those are good, you can never beat a good old fashioned American burger.
Being in an old shack right under the Westpark Tollway Overpass, the place exudes personality and just begs passerbys to stop in for a bite. Once you step in, you'll surely notice the many photos or the old tables and floorboards, worn from years of loyal patrons looking for a fantastic and flavorful cheeseburger.
If I were to have one complaint about the food, it would be over the lack of fries. Don't get me wrong, their potato salad and their selection of chips are great. But its hard to beat that classic American combo of a great burger and some hot fries.
A word of advice, if you try to go around lunchtime on a work day expect a long wait. The same goes for days when the Houston weather is actually tolerable as people flock to the outdoor tables. If it's raining, no worries, Bubba's IS under an overpass so you have some covered parking. -

What a find! I used to live close to the Sam's Club that's nearby and would always drive by wandering what this place was and whether or not it was worth a stop. It took me a year and a half to finally stop in on a sunny Friday afternoon and it was well worth it!
I had a buffalo burger and some of their jalapeno potato salad followed up by a root beer float. The burger and salad were fantastic. The root beer float was pretty standard, made with Blue Bell ice cream, but delicious nonetheless.
There's not much to be said that hasn't been already...it's a great place to enjoy the weather and killer burgers. Can't wait to go back! -

This is the 7th review just THIS MONTH for Bubba's.
No one may read this, because I'm just confirming what we all already know:
Bubba's: Damn good burgers + beer + great dive spot with outdoor seating.
Do you need me to go on?
No.
But I will.
The food: Burgers are fucking awesome. Beef or buffalo? Cheese? Toppings? Wheat or white bun? It's your choice (but try the buffalo)! It's almost as tasty and much healthier. A single's $6... double $9. Ohhh, and try a buffalo DOG!
They don't serve fries, but there is a wide array of chips from which to choose from. And there's beer! Saint Arnold's, Shiner, XX, and other domestics. About $2.50-4 for longnecks. Grab one and wait for the food to be brought out to your table.
Not much seating inside, but just be glad the building survived the construction of the Westpark Tollway. The outdoor seating is great. A few big, round tables under the patio, and more big tables on the side. Won't be long before you share a table and meet some new friends. And yesterday I heard The Black Keys on the stereo inside. Great music in there.
Parking is in true dive style. It's gravel in front, grass on the side, and concrete from the Tollway further down. You really can't miss it while driving down Westpark Dr. Seriously, you'll wonder how the ramshackle building survived.
So why are you still reading? Get to Bubba's NOW! -

The jalapeno potato salad is muy delicioso...The burgers are standard frozen patty burgers...for beef and buffalo! not fresh like becks prime. my only complaint is that I don't like my burgers mildly pink....I, prefer them hard grilled until they are of course DONE....they were not that busy to not get it right....or to have an excuse...for the rawness...its the potato salad that keeps me coming...now that's well done :)(:

Houston, TX
Over the past 10 years, I have literally passed this place hundreds of times. The other day, my bf suggested that we stop in to this "under the freeway" burger shack. It was a rainy day in Houston so we thought it would be a perfect meal on a lazy day.
When you approach this place, you are immediately struck by the "quaint" exterior. It was evocative of the stereotypical "burger shack". When we walked in, we were greeted by a very friendly order taker. I informed her that we were newbies and she answered each of our questions very courteously. We poured over the menu and decided to order a beef cheeseburger, a buffalo burger, two bags of chips and a couple of sodas. I was dismayed to find out that they don't serve fries, which one assumes would be standard at a burger joint.
Although it was rainy, we decided to take a seat outside at one of the tables on the covered patio. As is standard at a burger shack, the tables were old and worn, but they seemed a little rickety for my tastes. The burgers came out pretty quickly and looked really tasty. I'm not sure if something was wrong with the server but, he seemed to be a little cranky. Nevertheless, we dug into the burgers and were pleased. (**SIDENOTE** We were served by the cook, who I assume had to do double duty as a waiter.)
Both of the burgers were juicy and flavorful. I normally like my food to have bold flavor but as I mentioned, the seasoning was adequate. The burgers were not too salty but just right. In the back of my mind, I still wanted a basket of fries, however, the chips still hit the spot. :)
So, here's the bottom line....this place offers a good burger at a fair price and if you can overlook minor creature comforts, then it's definitely worth a visit. (Solid 3-1/4 stars) -

I lived in Houston for 2 and a half years. A year of that was spent within a 10 minute drive to this place from either home or work. I ate here at least once a week and every time I go back to Houston to visit i stop in.
Sure it looks a little suspect on the outside but I have found, in living all over this country, that these are the ONLY and BEST places to eat.
i always order a Buffalo Burger with cheese - bacon, lettuce and tomato with the jalepeno potato salad on the side and whatever bottled stewarts soda i crave that day - tho it almost always ends up the diet rootbeer or orange cream soda.
I tried the double size once but what ensued was a scaled down episode of "Girl versus Food".
Locals know the place and love it but if you're new to the area or visiting town for either pleasure or business i sincerely suggest hitting this place up for lunch or dinner. They serve Pabst too (and a few other beers if memory serves me correctly) and frankly that just makes me love it even more. -

Buffalo burgers, yuuuuuuum!
Yes this place is under the freeway and this place is kinda old and dirty but don't let the exterior fool you - I like to think of it more of a vintage/classic look...
They make some of the best bison burgers in the area, no lie. -
Review from Leslie T.
Yum...yum and yum.
First of all...if you stop by for nothing more than the potato salad it's worth the trip. (I have actually picked up the potato salad to take to parties and bbqs!)
But get a burger - or I should say a bison burger. Get cheese on it but none of the other fanciness like mushrooms. It's good with nothing but the basic fixin's and besides with meat this good why mess too much with the flavor.
This is one of my favorite meals in town - honest.
Yeah it's in a shack under the Westpark Tollroad. Yeah it's cramped with boxes and tiny tables inside. Yeah it's got some funky ambiance. But that's what dives are for...the funkiness of it all and GREAT grill grub.
The chili ain't bad and the soft drink selction isn not your average Coke or Pepsi. (Try the black cherry soda if they still have it!).
Getting in and out of the parking lot can be tough during the evening rush so just sit on the patio and drink a cold one and munch on some great food while everyone else grumbles in stop and go traffic. -

I can't go by this place without making a stop! When I know I'm headed that way I'll call ten minutes ahead and my burger is waiting when I get there.
Bison burger with the normal fixin's and lots of jalapeños is delicious and pretty good for you! A good bang for your buck, too.
It can get cramped in there and smells a little funky but the patio is nice.
Best burger.... -

Advice for first comers:
Phone in your order, if possible and then eat out on the patio with scenic views of the highway ramps!!
If you wanna BIG burger, you MUST double it, they do NOT have a single thicker patty
Go for the regular beef versus buffalo...Buffalo patties are actually slimmer than the regular patties, but yet cost a few bucks more because of it being a leaner meat...The cook also advised me that the beef has more marbleized fat which will give a better flavor.
They do NOT have fries, so you'll be going Subway style w/chips or getting the potato salad w/ jalepenos.
If you plan on taking your order home, get lettuce and tomato on the side-for obvious reasons:)
Now the good stuff, the meat of the review...I actually enjoyed my experience, I called in my order, and by the time I got there, they were just finishing up my order...I asked for lettuce and tomatoes on the side bc I normally eat a plain burger.. At the sight of how fresh the tomatoes and crisp the iceberg lettuce were, I could not resist adding them to my sandwich....I remind you that I haven't had lettuce or tomato on my burger in years because I do not like when the heat from the meat wilts the veggies....I literally bit into heaven!!! Exceptional!! The bacon was perfectly cooked, crisp and embellished with fresh crack pepper. I also added a fried egg, which was well prepared...I loved my food and my experience...I felt like it was a place where I can go to relax and kick up my feet.
I gave it 4/5 stars bc the buffalo burger patty was thinner than I expected...It was a bit on the dry side, but again the fresh toppings really made up for it...I wasn't sure how having a name so heavy as Bubba's could have thinner patties...I now understand why...Most burger shacks go with the automatic monster patty, but if you truly think about it, you do NOT get the satisfaction of savoring the toppings because the thick meat overpowers them....Doubling your patties is actually better because it isolates the burger taste and makes it thicker in size but not "heavy".
Final thoughts...I recommend this place to those who desire a laid back atmosphere, Texan-style!! -
Review from Tony M.
Wait... we're eating under a freeway? Uh, I don't think so.
That, of course was until I sunk my teeth into the most delicious buffalo burger I've ever tasted. The service was quick and friendly and sitting outside was better than I thought. After a couple of reasonable priced beers, our food came out in a flash and it was on!!
Everything is a la carte (no meal deals here) but well worth it. Definitely worth abandoning the pretentiousness for an hour or two! -
Review from Kathy Z.
Never had buffalo before Bubba's, but now I'm a believer. I love that it's healthier than beef and tastier than turkey. The burger was juicy and cooked perfectly. Also, nice selection of sodas.
The thing that really sets this place apart is the ambiance (or the lack of ambiance). So causal that it feel like the boonies except you're really under a freeway. -
Review from Taylor B.
When they build a highway around the burger shack you know you got a winner. Located under Highway 59 off westpark Bubbas looks like the sort of place you'd expect a homeless person to come crawling of.
The burgers are served as ether beef or buffalo, which is much leaner than beef. I usually go with the buffalo meat, and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to explore this place. The taste is unbelievable I've been to nearly every burger joint in Houston and this one is deffintly one of the best. The meat is flavorful and the portions are big. If you get it with cheese pick the Monterey Jack. I don't know what it is but I love there Monterrey her! For sides the jalapeno potato salad is fantastic. Possibly the only downside is the lack of French Fries.
The staff likes to joke around with everyone. Last time I was here I asked for a double Buffalo burger, and was told "No Buffalo are Extinct" You can really tell there is a lot of personal care at this place, and they seem to strive to keep it small town in a big city.
Quick Tip though a few times a year they serve french fries and ribs . If you go on Memorial day you can order some, and they're well worth it! The Ribs seem to be random, but boy are they good! I'm talking falling of the bone and into your mouth delicious! -
Review from Valerie S.

Always get a tasty burger at the shack under the bridge! So happy they now offer St. Arnolds. Can be hard to find parking and seating at busy times. But always worth it. 4 stars just because there really isn't great inside seating (a couple tables maybe) and it's hard to give a burger spot 5 stars that doesn't offer fries. The jalepeno potato salad is great though!! Go check them out. You won't be disappointed.

Review from Joanna W.
First off, I am a sucker for hole-in-walls - surprising - kick you in the mouth and stomach- AWESOME- food. And this place DEFINITELY offers that! Not only does it give you a bang for your buck, but it's also HEALTHY!
Well, healthier than a burger from Fuddruckers anyway...
Like I said, it's a hole in the wall.. so don't be scared when you arrive. Especially since its LITERALLY right off the hwy. Look at it this way, the shack-like appeal of it is what keeps the southern authenticity of this little joint! :P
If it's your first time going there, I highly recommend you get the Buffalo Melt Patty! I usually just get the plain buffalo with mushrooms (but that's just cuz I like it plain jane when it comes to burgers), but on my cheat days.. I definitely go straight for the patty!
MMM..MM..Delicious! & no guilty feeling after. Definitely #WINNING! -

I read about Bubba's on Yelp and went to check it out with two co-workers for lunch. The place is seriously hidden under the highway on a dirt road, but after one or two wrong turns, we found it and it was so worth the trip. I had never had a buffalo burger before, and decided to try it. I got the one with mushrooms and it was really a lot leaner than a regular burger.
It was an adventure finding this hole-in-the-wall place but I definitely recommend it next time you are in the mood for a good burger. -
Review from Phi L.
Houston, TX
Burgers are deeelicious! What's even better is they offer whole wheat bread if you're a little health conscious. Whole wheat buns and buffalo meat for a burger? Best idea ever! I got the regular hamburger. It's kinda small but you can't expect too much for the price you pay. My boyfriend got the Border. He liked it, but said he didn't really taste the zest it was supposed to offer. He also got the buffalo chili and loved it. But next time we come, he's definitely getting a double meat something to satisfy his appetite.
One downside of this place? No fries! :'(
Don't overestimate the name of the place. It really is a shack. -
Review from Anthony S.

Burger Shack is not a disappointment. The guy makes burgers and doesn't even waste time on fries. Not, the burger is all you'll ever need. It comes in beef and buffalo. I personally tried the buffalo and it was one of the best I've ever had.

Richmond, KY
Yep, it's a shack, and even more dilapidated than the photos online. The "parking" is pretty much dirt/gravel/dust. The entrance is near the restroom doors, which does not help the ambiance, but the place was packed on a Friday night.
The burgers are cooked on a grill/griddle and are uniform in size. They are seasoned well, the whole wheat buns are excellent, the thick tomato slabs are a perfect ratio, and the smoked jalapenos sent this buffalo burger to the top of the list. They have a variety of bottled sodas and Zapp's chips to top it off. -

Hole in the wall as it's under the Westpark Tollway!
Solid place for your buffalo burger fixation.
Eat out on the deck and enjoy yourself! -
Review from Paris J.
This place is literally right underneath West Park Tollway. I think "hole in the wall" is an understatement. But that doesn't affect the food here at all. In fact, it just makes it all the more better.
If you don't already know someone who at least knows someone else who knows exactly where this place is, then yes... It'll definitely be difficult to find. But it's worth getting through all the ridiculous tollway construction.
The burgers, whether beef or buffalo, are supremely juicy and full of flavor. They're a delicious mess. Be sure your table is loaded with napkins, because you'll seriously need them.
I have yet to try the jalapeno potato salad, but after witnessing my company in tow moan over it as they ate, I can only assume that it's amazing.
So yes, give Bubba's a go. Just make sure you have a good GPS around. -

Unique atmosphere & decor, friendly staff, and (obviously) a no-frills environment.
The burgers are TOPS - you never thought bison would be so darn delicious. And no, they don't have fries or onion rings, but who needs them when they have jalepeno potato salad?
Bubba's is my favorite lunch spot & a great place to take a buddy, someone from out of town, or even a laid-back significant other on a sunny Houston afternoon. -

:: 3.5 Stars :: It's a hole in the shack! ::
Looking for an experience? How about a buffalo burger in a shack? But if you want a regular burger in a shack, that's fine too.
Bubba's Texas Burger Shack is located under the Westpark Tollway. It's easily to think you that the GPS took you to the wrong place but it didn't. There's no fancy dancy parking lot so join the crowd and park where you can find parking.
While walking up to the patio, you'll notice the paint chipping off the walls and the place looks like it's falling apart with character. There are a few tables and chairs on the patio with ceiling fans. You'll definitely hear cars driving on the tollway. The inside is small and you'll quickly walk up to the counter. On your right you'll see the refrigerator.
As for the buffalo burger, it was pretty cool. I never had one before so I don't have anything to compare it with. Oh, I did have it on a wheat bun with grilled jalapenos. I also ordered the jalapeno potato salad and it was pretty good, but I really didn't taste the jalapeno though.
Btw, they have a nice selection of soda.
As for service, the people are very friendly. They accept VISA and CASH. -

Very good buffalo burgers! My only complaint is its location (while I understand it's part of its charm) makes it rather inconvenient to eat here regularly. Anticipate a 5-10 minute wait after ordering around lunch time.
I've had the Mushrooom Jack Burger and the Bacon Cheeseburger here. Both are very good but I prefer the Bacon Cheeseburger.
The Jalapeno Potato Salad is good but I'm not sure if I agree it's a must.
One other note on to-go orders: the juices from the burger will probably leak like a BP oil spill to make your bread soggy if you don't eat it right away. Keep that in mind! -

I've been here a number of times and I have never left unsatisfied.
Service: Always friendly, never rude. I love polite people.
Food: Never gotten anything other than the Border Burger, buffalo style. Each of their burgers you can get beef or buffalo. I love burgers that are so full of flavor and juice :) The juice always drips down my hands as I'm taking a gigantic bite, and the flavor is always great.
One of my favorite places for burger. It's down the street from my boyfriend's place, so it's not a hassle to get there. It was kind of busy this one Saturday morning we went, so not many places left to park.
Definitely recommend! -

Once the novelty of eating under the freeway disappeared, I came to the realization that this is just a dive bar version of Fuddruckers. The burger itself is good, I guess, but nothing I'd go out of my way to eat.

Parking is kinda rough when its busy.
Building is not nice, but who cares...its called Bubbas Texas Burger SHACK:)
Now to the important...the burgers.
I got a buffalo double cheeseburger, all the fixings, jalapeno potato salad and a smoked jalapeno.
Burger: eh. Dont get me wrong...I would most definitely eat it again. However, drive from my house to specifically get one?...no. If my coworkers were going I'd probably say "yum" and hop in the car. The meat tastes previously frozen...def not fresh...not that meaty flavor i love. Bread was bagged white, and veggies were fresh. Cheese was awesome and dripping...the cheese made the burger. And, i love buffalo burgers...canyon creek and barnabys are my favvv:)
Potato salad was good...nothing id have to have again. Its a tangy, spicy mayo based salad.
Smoked jalapeno: good and spicy.
I would recommend for a good burger, nice homey tx experience, good prices...and really have no bad words to say. Just not my fav.
