Bubba's is at the UTC shopping mall farmers' marketin every Thursday.  I tried their pulled pork tacos with mango salsa dressing last night for the first time.. Delicious!

The pork was tender and tasty.  It looked juicy but because I took it to go and ran one more (long) errand before getting home, the meat dried up a little bit.  My fault for running the heater as I drove home post-shopping.

I heated them in the micro and once the mango salsa hit the meat, they were moist again. I really like that Bubba's chops their salsa finely, unlike the chunky styles I've had in the past, theirs can fall within the small crevices of the pulled pork and give you a nice balance of the smoky pork, sweet mango and spicy chilies.  Which leads me to my next point....they're not messing around with the wimpy stuff, there is serious jalapeno/habanero chilies that packs heat at the end of your bite.

That salsa made me wanna slap my grannie's behind.  Wow.

And let's not forget the black beast they call the smoker/BBQ pit which gets lugged around everywhere.  It's good to see that their ingredients are fresh and straight from the grill and evident in my first bite of the pulled pork tacos.

The modest selection is great; you're not overwhelmed by too many combinations/choices and the lines go fast.  Order the first thing that catches your eye cuz your stomach knows best.

And lastly, Bubba is the owner's dog so don't roll up to the stand shoutin "Hey Bubba, what's up?" Cuz all you're hear is "woof"

    Meh.

Though I didn't feel gouged by the prices, I've just had so much better.  We got a pulled pork sandwich.  It was dry and on a stale bun.  The sauce was practically flavorless.  No smoke taste.  Not appealing.  I didn't like.

Everything came out of giant catering vats, as well, which is never a good thing in my opinion.  Yeah, I get that it's a food cart, but when the first bite is lukewarm I'm thinking diarrhea, not yum.

Maybe it's just my bbq snobbery rearing its ugly head, but I have no idea how this place averages 4 stars.

I ate at Bubba's for the first time at Scripps Ranch Farmers Market on Saturday's.  I went at 1 pm.... closing time.  Joe, the man behind bubba's, was super nice.  Since it was closing time he gave me a bunch of stuff for half off.  During the meal he also asked if we would like a free turkey leg and a ribs.  He told me to come next time around the same time for the same deal!  Pretty awesome, since I love BBQ.

He catered one of my parties.  To sum it up the catering.... Great Food, Super Service, Fine Quality, and Over the top Quantities.

Mom and pop businesses are always the best.

First off i'm a bar-b-q snob. I stopped by the farmers market to pick up some fruits and decided to give them a shot.

I expect alot from bar-b-q shops! Or do I?
I guess I'm asking too much for a bar-b-q stand to slowly smoke their meats, as a substitute to boiling them. Their ribs lacked the wood smoke taste that I am familiar to.

This place motivates me to take out the grill and charcoal...and do it right, for hours! For the same price you can go to Bubba's Smokehouse, Phil's, or Coop's and get tastier bar-b-q.

This is my 200th review and I have decided to review Bubba's Asian BBQ.

The challenge is that this is a new place and has no home as yet.  I encountered Bubba's and his BBQ delights today at the Fiesta de los Penasquitos.  From a previous reviewer it appears that they have attended the Scripps Ranch farmers Market in the past.   We asked the people at Bubba's BBQ at the fiesta what the story was and it appears they are planning to open as a local storefront and are looking for a good location.   I am going to ask my next door neighbor to move and suggest that as the ideal location.  Mostly for me, but it is all about me anyway.

So, why is this my 200th review?  Pulled pork tacos.  Tender pork nestled in fresh and nicely seared corn tortillas with sweet and fresh mango salsa.  AT A STREET FAIR!   Every part of this tasty dish was a work of art.

Bubba, my neighbors are packing tonight,  please be here at 8 am sharp because I need some tasty breakfast tacos.

    Three words:

    Pulled Pork Tacos.

That's really all I've had here.  And, probably all I will have for quite sometime, because they are that friggin' good.  This item is a must have, and when they get their own storefront, they will definitely be a tough business to compete with.

If you are looking for traditional BBQ, then you are out of luck - the sign is very clear, it's a fusion between Asian food and BBQ.  Hence, the name:  Bubba's Asian BBQ.

The pulled pork tacos are straight up TJ street style, except the delicious pork is topped with this mango habanero sauce that sets the whole thing off nicely.  That really good mix of sweet and spicy that Asian food is known for - but on a street taco.

Don't miss out on these little treats from Asian heaven.  Bubba's is usually at the Hillcrest Farmer's Market on Sundays, and if not, they said to check they're twitter to see where they're at.

I went to the Asian Cultural Heritage get together today at NTC.

Bubba was there with his booth.

People know how I feel about Phil's BBQ.

    Well.......

Phil's is the bomb compared to Bubba's!!!

I ordered the pork rib plate which was 4 pieces of ribs and I ordered the spares instead of the baby backs since I know that real BBQ men know how to cook spares. They are more difficult to get right but when they are BBQed the right way they are much better than baby backs.

That being said, Bubba's spares were really tough and they left the membrane on the back of the ribs.

They were not tender at all, not meaty, they needed a few more hours in the smoker and also needed the membrane taken off before they cooked them.

Also it lacked a dry rub, no rub at all.

There was a big line most of the day.

Maybe or hopefully they don't know bbq and were happy...

Or if they are like me.... they would be kind of pissed off and disappointed........

No more going to BBQ joints for me for 6 months!!!!

I am going to make my own from now on.......

I had the pulled pork tacos.  they were ok.  i didn't taste any smoke flavor even though they have that huge smoker trailer.  kinda pricey for what you get.  mango salsa was nice.

the pulled pork i make in my own weber smoker is much better.

I got a pulled pork from this place and like previous post there was no smoked flavor on the pork although they drag a smoker with them. It all looked premade because there was no grilling or preparing when i arrived nor when i returned. The mango salasa was great for the first 5 seconds until the peppers over powered the taste that sent me gasping for water and looking for a napking exposing me to the noobdom of spicy food by wiping the brow sweat from my eyes. I looked down to realize there were two more tacos to eat.

Just came back from the tet festival and shared a rack of ribs with a friend of mine. The service was similar to any fast food. The ribs were on the same pricing as Phil's and weren't as tasty or as juicy. I'm glad I shared this meal, we went over to the L&L booth and finished our day there. Saved the food to pawn off on my dogs. At the end all wasn't lost, and I still had a good time.

Bubba's Asian BBQ is going to be a winner when it gets a permanent storefront location.

For now, you can find Bubba's at the Scripps Ranch Farmers Market on Saturday.

You have to try the tri-tip sandwich, which is served on a pandasol roll. What a nice touch. You'll just have to trust me on this one.

I had Bubba's Asian BBQ for lunch today from the Hillcrest Farmers Market. I had it packed to go so I could eat it at home and man was it good. Most other BBQ places I have tried at either the fair or block party's have been a let down. I had the BBQ rib plate with white rice and the spicy papaya salad. It was extremely tasty and the spicy BBQ sauce I had on the ribs is fuggin delicious. It is spicy for sure which I love. The ribs were cooked perfectly. Maybe the full rack this next time. I'm going to have it again for lunch at the Del Sur Farmers Market..It's a half block from my house. All in all very delicious. I'm looking to try the Turkey Leg and Pulled Pork Sangwhich soon.

Bubba's Asian BBQ is also a proud English Bulldog owner...6 stars for that.

Love this place! Who would have thought pulled pork tacos with mango salsa would have me addicted!  Joe the owner is always coming up with new spins on bbq, while Bubba takes all the credit ;-).  Its good street food, cheap and  easy to hold  while you  walk the market.   Forget what other reviewers say as they plug other businesses. So rude and unnecessary.  Try Bubba's for yourself.  I doubt the other guys have some of their creations.

Best pulled pork tacos ever!  And to the poster comparing him to Phil's, you do realize this is Asian bbq right?  It's not supposed to be like Phil's!  They are at the Hillcrest farmers market every Sunday. If you're in the area, stop by. You won't be disappointed!

I've heard about Bubba's Asian BBQ forever now and had another experience yesterday at the SD TET Festival and I thought it was time to share my thoughts. My initial introduction to Joe from Bubba's was at the SD Lantern Festival last year at Hover High and since then I have been in love with their menu.  The fish tacos are far much better the Baja Fresh, their chicken is delicious and their pull pork tacos with spicy mango salsa is just to die for. Joe and his crew are extremely friendly, kind and warm, qualities that differentiate one's dining experience from fair, good and great! Bubba's Asian BBQ is a must for anyone who sees Bubba's Asian BBQ grill in site!!!
