I love this location of Bubba Gump Shrimp!

We usually come here for dinner after our day at Universal Studios.

Food is always good and the servers are awesome (most notably, server by the name of Chris Brown)

    Love Love Love this place!!!

P.S.... Strangely, they do not serve Dr. Pepper O_o

Right in the heart of CityWalk, this place is a bustling restaurant.  There was a wait when we went, but it was a Saturday night so that's to be expected.  When we were seated, it was a 6-top table for the two of us.  Plenty of space.  They have a policy where if you want help you flip a sign from Run Forest Run to Stop Forest Stop.  We used the sign once and it worked easily.

The food was decent.  It's a little expensive for what you're getting but CityWalk is a tourist trap so you have to expect it to be pricey.  I had the Shrimp Po Boy, it was good shrimp, crispy and well cooked.  The bread was crusty on the outside, soft on the inside, like it's supposed to be.  I thought it needed hot sauce to really have a Po Boy flavor but there's sauce on the table so that was not an emergency.

My friend had the Shrimp Scampi pasta dish.  She said it was good.  I only tried one bit so I can't speak too much about it.  It had plenty of shrimp in the dish and the pasta wasn't overcooked.  Overall, it seemed kind of bland to me but I only had the one bite.

I had a mango mojito and it was terrible.  This place was going to get a 3-star review but the syrup disgusting drink lowered it to 2.

We were seated in a small room off the main dining room with no one else in it. It took the waiter about 5-10 minutes to arrive to take our drink orders. The drinks had zero alcohol in them! The waiter made up some BS about pineapple juice. *whatever, not listening*

We ordered the appetizer sampler, the "chilly" shrimp hadn't been cleaned properly, so we had to remove the end trails ourselves *yuck*. The spinach dip had an oil slick on in it *bland*. The garlic bread had no garlic on it. We ordered the shrimper's heaven ($21) and the shrimp had no flavor! And they "ran out" of the decorative baskets that hold and separate the shrimp so everything was mixed all over the plate and I really didn't know what was what. You'd think the waiter would have just told me. The stuffed crab shrimp ($18) was just plain awful. Bland, super weird texture. It looked like wet, balled up paper mache. Both of those were sent back. No manager came to our table to ask what was going on and check the chef.

So disappointing! I'd been here before and my guest hadn't, so I was a little embarrassed.
To add insult to injury, the big novelty glasses we were given to take home had a chip on one of them. Not going to waste my money here again!!

This a cool spot. Me and my friends went and had lunch on the patio on Saturday and the view was real nice. The food was good, but would have been better if it was warmer and a lil faster. I did find a couple of shrimp improperly cleaned but I took care of it myself. No biggie. Wasnt too pleased with how I ended up paying up to almost 40 bucks for a $20 meal. Despite the snags and our waiter taking forever, those fried shrimp and hush puppies was gooood! I might come back next time with a separate check and requesting a faster waiter.

My throat is like a fresh shellfish detector. It's super sensitive to shellfish that aren't fresh.

    Service is attentive and fast.
It's a fun place to eat, it's pretty smart idea to open a restaurant using a movie theme, there is already a subject to work with, everything is about  Forrest gump, the framed wedding dress in the movie, table tennis racket as the cocktail menu, blue and red car licence plate to call/call off the waiters/waitress. It's fun!

---Best ever popcorn shrimp is hard to find. There are more fried vegetables instead of fried shrimps. The shrimps are not crispy and it tasted bland. My throat felt a bit itchy, deep frozen shrimp meat for sure.

-++Shrimper's net catch in Cajun spice is tasty, sweet, juicy and fresh, I had a few and everything is alright.

--+Shrimper's heaven is smaller that I expected. Coconuts shrimp tasted best of all. It's crispy, the shrimp meat is sweet and surprisingly my throat didn't give any warning sign. Fries aren't crispy and lacked of flavor, fried shrimp was boring like the ones that you can get from frozen department from any supermarkets, Shrimp tempura lacked of flavor and it's not crispy. The shrimp meat is thin. My throat start to get tiny tingling, again, there is something from the frozen section.

--+The best sampler of the desserts. The hook, liner &sinker. The mama's bread pudding is warm, fluffy and not too sweet. This dessert is pretty good. Chocolate chip cookie sundae is way too sweet, it will kill your teeth for sure. Mama's shortbread cake with fresh strawberry was chewy like a rubber ball  and fresh strawberries? Are you seriously? The texture was mushy and it tasted like syrup. I don't understand the idea of eating a chewy scone that was topped with mushy overly sweet strawberries.
The manager should scratch this dessert from the menu.

+++Cocktails are great, they were not overly sweet.

Overall, this is a nice place to hangout with friends and family. The food is okay, drinks are nice and the atmosphere is cozy.

Came here with my wife, it was the first time for the both of us.  We were definitely not disappointed.

First, the decor is great.  Gift shop is a great place to stop by for a few pictures while waiting to be seated.  When we we sat down the waiter came and introduced himself to us and went over the menu and how things worked.  He was very funny and pleasant.

The food is good, however not great.  Although, to be honest we didn't come here for great food.  First we had the shrimp mac and cheese and it was great, nice crust...delicious.  Then I ordered a shrimp pesto pasta which came in a generous portion.  The wife had some sampler, might have been the bucket of boat trash.  That was actually very delicious, but a friend food overload!  The desert was great, it was the bread pudding.  Cocktails were amazing!

After dinner we were given a free souvenir glass which is actually a really, really nice one.  Overall a great experience.
This is a very touristy place, not the type of place you visit all the time, but definitely a great fun place to eat.

My favorite option at CityWalk, but at three stars, I'm not sure that's saying much.

We always order the  "Bucket o' Boat Trash" to share (lobster claws, fried fish, fried shrimp, and fries) and despite the fact that I don't like fried seafood, it's pretty darn good.  The other night we visited with a group of friends and we decided to venture out from our "norm."  Not our best idea to date.

We tried the calamari and although it was tasty (mixing the app with fried pepperocinis was brillliant), it was FAR too small to suffice.  My dish was tasty (the new Tilapia topped with artichoke hearts and capers).  I don't even like capers and the meal was still somewhat impressive for a chain seafood restaurant.  But the hubsters ordered fish and chips, which is his go-to meal if nothing else looks entirely appetizing.  HUGE bummer.  The pieces of fish were tiny and soggy.  We weren't impressed.  He loved my dish but I was too hungry to share much.

I guess if we go again we'll make sure to order the ONE dish we both like....  The most redeeming quality was the service.  Our waitress Monica walked me through about ten dishes, giving me her thoughts on each one once she recognized I'm somewhat of a picky eater.

I love Bubba so much that three of our family vacations have been planned around Bubba. We have been to the one in Santa Monica, Hollywood, Florida, Maui and Cancun. However our fave will always be Hollywood. The service is always good and the food is always great! Our usual is a 1.5lb half cajun/half garlic shrimp, the Shrimpers Heaven, Cajun Shrimp, Garlic bread, and my favorite, the Salmon Veggie Skillet. I was a tad dissapointed when they took it off the menu for a while and replaced it with Mahi Mahi...I don't like fishy fish. So glad its back though. The cookie sundae is also a must!

So I was pleasantly surprised! After writing my previous review, it was just a matter of about an hour before I was contacted by a social media coordinator who decided to reach out and attempt to correct our previous experience.

I was put in contact with the general manager of this Bubba Gump's location, who suggested we revisit. We did so about a week later, and our service was nothing less than exceptional. Our waiter was incredibly helpful and attentive. The general manager, Marnie, met us in person and made sure we had a fantastic dining experience. She even stopped by a few times to make sure. They also gave us a steep discount on our bill. We were really happy with our experience here!

This is the only time (in my limited experience) I've personally seen a company reach out to customers on Yelp and really try to resolve a past negative experience. I'm sure it happens more than I'm aware of, but either way both my fiancée and I were very impressed. It's great to know that some companies out there really do value their customers.

Shrimp. Shrimp cocktail. 13 dollar shrimp cocktail. Not so cold 13 dollar shrimp cocktail. Buzzkill from the not so cold 13 dollar shrimp cocktail.

Waitress, cancel my order, I would like my check, if you can't get my shrimp cocktail absolutely worth 13 dollars, I'm done.

C'mon, it's the staple on the menu, the name of your joint, Forest would be ashamed of this.

Fist time here with the hubby, i love how this place was decorated with all the Forest Gumps stuff... the service was ok, a lil disappointed when they told me they ran out of ICE...ICE?? really? anyhow, i ordered the Pop Corn shrimps on a dinner roll...the Pop Corn Shrimps was really good....it was crunchy and great taste.  However, the dinner roll was a completely disappointment,  it was so hard that when i tried to bite at it.. make it hard to eat it.... i ended up eating it with a knife and fork like an open sandwich.

My hubby ordered the scampi, which taste a lil different than the normal scampi that he would get from other places.  This scampi has a little lemon taste to it which is a very nice offset to all the shrimps on the place.

I would definitely come back to try the other shrimps dishes...

The food was mediocre and I was pretty disappointed when I got my meal.  BTW I got the "Shrimper's Heaven"($20.99) and in the description it listed four different types of shrimp yet I only got three different types. I also got the mashed potatoes($2.99) and tried the net catch shrimp($~12)?

    Pros:
    - Good Service
    - Big Menu
    - Mashed

    Cons:
    - Shrimper's Heaven
-3 types of shrimp instead of the 4
        -Sauces were not very tasty
        -"Chilled" shrimp had no flavor
        - Should have had sweet n' sour sauce
    - Pretty Pricey for me ($40 for 2 people)
    - Bland food

    Bottom Line:
Not worth the price.  Food was okay.

Why is it so difficult for chain restaurants to cook consistent good quality food?  Why do I keep going to these places?  Well if you are stuck in Universal City for lunch or dinner your selection of choices is limited to chains.  The food is blah...the drinks are average....the atmosphere is well....like a them park so fits perfectly into the area.  But for the price...the quality...much better places if you can hold your hunger and go somewhere else.  If on a bright sunny day...eating outside....chilling with food and drinks...I guess you can give this a 3 for atmosphere.

While wandering around CityWalk we ended up eating here. I've been to quite a number of Bubba Gump's and this location was alright. Roomy, clean and good service.

I got my usual dose of Blue Moon along with some Fish and Chips.

The fam enjoyed their fair share of yummy Shrimp Combo's as usual.

It's not a cheap place to eat but for some reason we keep coming back. Thanks to Forrest Gump I guess and the pop-up shrimping boat the kids love.

I gather Lieutenant Dan must be around here somewhere...

We don't have any Bubba Gumps where I come from.  I did pick up a pilsner glass at the Goodwill a while back, but until last week that was as close to a Bubba Gump as I'd been.

After a long full day at Universal Studios, we walked down CityWalk trying to decide what to do for dinner.  It ended up being down to BG and Hard Rock Cafe -- we chose BG.  I was expecting... mediocre everything.  Portland is all about the local, independent, farm-to-table scene these days, so big theme chain restaurants are almost shameful to admit going to.  Guess what Portland -- I went, I ate, I loved it, and I am not ashamed!!

We had: hushpuppies (yum), shrimpers heaven (yum), fish & chips (meh to yum), and fried chicken (yum).  I had the sparkling mango drink minus the sparkling (yum).  And the water was yum!

We received excellent service, but even so I LOVED the stop/go signs on the tables.  Talk about a good way to ensure, say, drink refills ASAP!  No trivia though kind of a bummer after reading some of the other reviews here.

All in all, really good experience.  If there was a BG in PDX, we'd be customers.

If I didn't love Forrest Gump so much, I'd give this place one star.

The food is just bland. My Shrimper's Net Catch (cajun/garlic shrimp) tasted like sausage? Yes, sausage. It was not even a little bit good, and it was nothing compared to the Boiling Crab.

I could have made garlic bread that tasted better than theirs, and the chicken sandwich looked unappealing. The only good thing about my meal was my Sparkling Mango drink.

Okay. Bubba Gump is good! I really like their mahi mahi, fried chicken, onion rings- to DIE for-and their drinks are all good. The thing that I don't like about Bubba Gumps are their prices. I mean for me and a friend, we spent about 100 bucks. WHAT? I mean the food is good, but damn.......

Basically I wouldn't go out of my way to go to Bubba Gumps; its just not worth the price.

I guess this place is just for tourists.
I've had Bubba Gump's in SF and now in Hollywood. Can honestly say that it's just... ok...
I'd rather have Red Lobster and that's saying something.
It's nothing special, not even the service was anything memorable.
Our server was very surly and did not seem like she wanted to be there.
We started off with the Run Across America sampler- too much buffalo shrimp and shrimp cocktail (meh) and not enough hush puppies :(
I had the top sirloin steak med well (a little tough), mash potatoes= cold, and I never figured out with that tomatoes were there for.
Friend had the dixie fishwhich (too fishy) and other friend had the shrimp scampi (not enough shrimp, questionable green vegetation that left a bad taste in the mouth)
and my cup runneth low way too much. Server never got around to refilling my soda. Whether or not the "STOP FORREST STOP" sign was on or not-- you need to acknowledge a freakin' empty cup.
I've tried Bubba Gump enough to know that the food is overpriced, not tasty, and service was inadequate.

For me to give 5 stars is rare...and I work in customer service! I have worked in the restaurant business so I understand how our experience at restaurants should be. And 3 weeks ago my boyfriend and I received amazing service!

We've been to multiple bubba's across the country and our experiences were pretty fair. But none were like the one in Hollywood. We walk up and the host was very nice. He asked how many our party was and told whomever he was telling on his headset. So by the time we arrived in the restaurant, there was someone to seat us inside.

We came at a pretty slow time, but about an hour and a half before they closed. We know that at this point is when you'll get not-so-great service because everyone is tired and just wants to go home. But our server was Zeke and he was great! He made jokes, was in a good mood, made us laugh, answered our random questions about the restaurant and just made us feel very welcome. Of course when we paid we left him a $25 tip and said we didn't need any change. He did come back over and ask to make sure we left the correct amount (very honest!) and we told him he deserved it.

We don't live in California, but when we go back to Universal Studios, we'll definitely be eating there again and will be asking for Zeke!

It's okay! I think it's more hype then it actually should be. The food was good but not great and way over priced for what you get. There was also a yelp special with check in that they did not honor which was a disappointment . And when I had asked about it they had to ask like 5 different people cause no one knew what I was talking about. That's okay, you can keep your bottle of hot sauce.
For the 3 of us to eat it was like $130 and was not that impressed. I would go back if I had someone with me who was dying to go there. Other wise, I don't see us going back anytime soon.

Done with this place. Not what it used to be :(
I normally order the Cajun Shrimp appetizer which used to be delicious. I noticed today that is was overcooked which was no huge issue. I would have been happy to have sent it back in exchange for  a properly cooked order. We informed our server, Alan, about the issue and he informed us that is was actually not overcooked, rather, Bubba Gump switched the type of shrimp they use and the texture of this new species of shrimp was a bit chewy and tough. If this is the case, and Bubba Gump recently did switch to a new species of shrimp, it completely ruins the quality of food that Bubba Gump once stood for.
The next issue was one that has occurred before and a manager had to get involved in the first case a few months back. There is an ongoing misleading marketing scheme I have been presented with. On two occasions, one of them being today, I ordered two 22 ounce Blue Moon beers. When the check arrived our server Alan informed me that the first beer includes a "free" pilsner glass. Upon examining the receipt I noticed that there was a charge for the glass. I fail to understand how the pilsner was free when I was paying for it. Also, I did not ask to purchase the pilsner and I did not appreciate the misleading representation of the "free" pilsner. Upon informing Alan that I did not want to purchase the pilsner glass, his demeanor completely changed for the worse.
Today's experience was the last time I give Bubba Gump the benefit of the doubt. Your restaurant used to be an experience that kept me coming back for more. Unfortunately things have changed. I am disappointed at the changes Bubba Gump has made regarding their "new type of chewy shrimp" as our server Alan had put it

I've come to this one and the one in long beach. I guess I really don't care for it. I don't eat shrimp, but do like fish. The first time I got a grilled fish dish, don't remember name it was over a year ago. It tasted good but not worth the price. This last time I ordered fish and chips again it was good but not worth the price. Everyone in my group agreed that the prices didn't match quality/ quantity. Service was ok, we had someone in training and they messed up the bills at the end.

Disclaimer: I'm not a seafood fan at ALL. Honestly, most of the time, I avoid seafood of any type because I dislike it so much (actually, on the verge of hate it). With that said, I'm quite surprised -- and happy -- that I found a seafood place that I actually like!

First off, I love, love, love how the whole restaurant is decorated in Forest Gump theme! I'm a HUGE Forest Gump fan, so I was in love. Staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean too. Bubba Gump, you're impressing this non seafood lover!

Now, lets get on to the food. For an appetizer, our party of four ordered the Shrimpers Net Catch ($12.49). This plate is a 1/4 pound of shrimp that you could order with either Garlic Spice sauce, the Cajun Spice sauce or get half and half. We ordered half and half. The Cajun Spice is REALLY spicy and takes some getting used to. The Garlic Spice is more my style. If it wasn't for the sauces on the shrimp, I honestly don't think I would have liked it as much. The four of us pretty much cleaned the whole dish off (there were only about 4 or 5 shrimps left when we were done). It was really tasty!

As for my meal, a friend and I split the Shrimpers Heaven ($20.99), which is voted the #1 Guest Favorite! I must say, it was REALLY good! And this meal is really big enough for two (I couldn't eat it alone). This dish came with: Breaded Coconut Shrimp (A++ in my book, drool!), Chilly Shrimp (C- in my book....these were too bland and too cold for me), Fried Shrimp (B+, good if you like fried goodness since that's all you can really taste...but, still good overall), and Tempura Shrimp (A-, I really enjoyed these, but not the best of the bunch). Overall, the meal was great. I'd highly recommend it and it's big enough for two! I can understand why it's voted Guest Favorite!

Overall, great experience! I'll for sure come back here since I'm just that impressed. Only downside is that they are expensive. Total for four people that ordered: 2 alcoholic drinks, 3 meals and 1 appetizer was $109 (tax included). I nearly passed out! But, the food was delish, so it made up for the prices!

    Happy eating!

I wanted to go to Bubba's for a looong time & after Universal Studios all day ended up here!! I have to say the food is the only thing awesome about this place! Everything before being seated was confusing! Put your name in, wait til they called your name, THEN wait in line til they call your name again ughhh! Good food, poor service!!

Outgoing service here.  The food itself was decent, my bf shrimp po boy was nice and crisp.  The bisque was quite good as well, but for the price, I didnt feel it was anything special.

Scene: big shopping area outside Universal Studios, large movie themed restaurant.

Actors: 1. Shrimp and Crab Bisque. These are 2 heavy hitters who dont mess around. They pack a powerful flavor, yet still manage to have a creamy texture.

    2. Bourbon Street Mahi Mahi. Not shy at all! Mahi is a crunchy tasty character who was delivered steaming hot! And Mahi is a spicy player.

    3. Mama's Bread Pudding. She's a sweet old girl, who will have you smiling. But then, she delivers a 1 2 punch of cinnamon and rum sauce that will have you in a coma in no time!

    4. The server.  This guy is serious about getting down to business! He was right there when needed. He lets no soda go unrefilled!

    5. The price. This character is often misunderstood! Yeah, he seems a little high, but hey, look where he lives!

Story: A guy walks into the restaurant, tired and hungry. The characters all decide to team up, and he leaves happy!

Sorry about the above story, but this is Hollywood after all!

Went on a Saturday evening a few months back.  Was seated right away.  Sat for maybe 25 minutes with no one coming to take our drink order or acknowledge we were even there. People were being helped/served/attended to around us but it seemed as though our table didn't exist.  A simple, "we will be right with you" or anything along those lines would have kept me from leaving.  After being ignored, we ended up walking out. I will not be coming back to Bubba Gumps at Universal City Walk.

This review is looong over due...

I've been here over a year ago when my mate Kay from the UK came to visit me.
I'm deffo not a fan of sea food (Kosher Baby) but Kay is.. Big time! She checked out the menu when we passed this place and she demanded us checking it out.
I guess I'm writing this on her behalf... lol

I remember how she was glowing to the sight of all those (poor) shrimp dishes available.... They have all these platters and what not....
Shrimp this and shrimp that whatever.... lol

Now I must admit that the only reason I agreed to dine amongst these shirmpers is because I love the movie, Forerst Gump.

I adored the memorabilia of the film, the decor etc etc... So yes that was a nice experience.

i believe I was saved with some pasta or a mushroom pasta dish.. I honestly don't remember... I do know that I ordered something. And yes, despite the lack of information it's still a good thing to know that if you ended up having dinner at Bubba and you DONT like seafood, it's still OK.....

    Service-
Ohh my we had the cutest 16 like year old Waiter. Seriously.
He has a huge smile on his face all the time. ALL. THE. TIME.

I do remember that he (had super white straight teeth. Prob JUST had his braces removed or something) was super informative and tentative. Good combo!!

The RUN FORREST RUN!! and the STOP FORREST ... thing is really cute and I actually really like that idea.

I mean, innit annoying when you're being approached by your Waiter over and over again... So I like the option to tell 'em when to... annoy....

Anyways... This place is cute... Good service... We were seated quickly and I honestly can't think of anything bad to say.

    I hate seafood.

    :)

There's a lot of so-so reviews here, and a lot of them are warranted. But like, come on, there's enough people here saying the Shrimp Po'Boy sucks, so why do people still keep ordering that shit??? This place is definitely good if you know what to get.

3 words. Shrimper's Net Catch. It's steamed shrimp with your choice of garlic sauce or cajun sauce. Get it with rice and you've got a great meal. With the rice it's about $15. I like it with a wheat beer ($6). You have to use your hands to peel the shrimp, but don't be a baby. It's fun, worth it, and there's hand wipes and a full service bathroom for you to wash up in. Man up!

The hush pups and that appetizer sampler is good too. Don't come here on a weekend if you don't like to wait, and by all means, do not show up here with your friends on your birthday if you don't want them to sing for you.

And sure, it's not the cheapest of menus. But what do you expect from an establishment in Universal Studios?? If you want cheap eats don't eat at a restaurant here, simple as that. I hate when yelpers moan about these prices. Duh! Theme Park = Empty Wallets. May I kindly suggest you buy a churro if you don't want to shell out for good food in a fun atmosphere with great service. :)

After going back a second time I was treated much better by the staff. The food was good and the waiter Justin was fast and friendly. I definitive recommend the new mac and cheese dish with shrimp.

It was my son's 8th birthday so we met up with my parents for lunch at Bubba Gumps in Universal City Walk.  We arrived around 11:45 on a weekday and the place was empty. I was totally surprised but that's ok, the staff was super attentive.  Our waiter was adorable and made my son feel special with lots of birthday banter. We placed our orders and everything came out fast. We all thought our picks were very good. I had the coconut shrimp and they were crisp and plentiful. After we had all stuffed ourselves, they brought out a sundae with a candle and sang to my kid. There was a lot of laughter and dancing on our chairs.

The place is campy and fun. Sometimes I am leery about these big, corporate restaurant chains but Bubba delivered.
