Review from Katrina S.
Brooklyn, NY
My first time here I was very impressed!
For an appetizer I started with the shrimp Mac and cheese. Might I say that it was absolutely divine!!! My goodness creamy and delicious I'd absolutely recommend this appetizer to everyone coming here!
FYI the bubbas far out dip was phenomenal!!
I got the feast for my meal, the seafood was nice fresh and crispy and cole slaw was good not too wet, and still crunchy.
I didn't opt for any dessert so I can't comment on that.
Environment is kid friendly, comfortable, cheap, had expedient service , and my party was seated immediately.
I only took off one star because although we had a very friendly waitress she just talked far too much for me , which says a lot because I never shut up!
Hope this review helps! -
Review from John K.
Some downsides, its usually pretty packed, so I'd avoid it on a weeknight and especially, a weekend.
Others:
-kinda pricey for the size of the food you get
-their drinks are weak
But the food is great!
I love their Cajun shrimp appetizer! I've only been here twice, but both times I've ordered that, and it's always so delicious! Its about 16-18 baby shrimp with this amazing garlic sauce that comes with 2 pieces of garlic soaked bread! Only downfall, it's kinda small for the price, but it is an appetizer..
Had the mango salsa fish (I think it was tilapia) with the jasmine rice, which was also good.
Good, family friendly kind of atmosphere and our waitress was very friendly! :)
Brush up on your Forrest Gump trivia before you come here and you may even win a prize! (No idea what it is; didn't pass it lol :( it's probably not that great anyway..)
I'd definitely come here again! -

Came here for a rehearsal dinner with a group of 15.
Shrimp was cold and/or frozen on the inside, absolutely disgraceful. -
Review from Paul W.
Right on times square, provide for some awesome people watching from the window seats. The food was good but the drinks were the best! Had the coronarita which was a Margarita with an upside down Corona. Great and friendly service, would definitely come again!

Just as the name of the place says, it is based off the famous Forrest Gump movie. If you are a shrimp fanatic then this is the place for you. It is in the heart of NYC, right in Times Square so you can't miss it. The ground floor is the souvenir shop and upstairs is the restaurant and bar. The prices are high but thats to be expected in a tourist area of NYC. The food is extremely good but extremely fatty! This is not normal American food by the way! ;-) We only eat this way once or twice a month, ok maybe a week.

Almost everything here is deep fried shrimp.
I never seen the movie before so i know nothing about the place and the decorations were suppose to be from the movie too. It definately looks like a chain restaurant. It is smack in the middle of TIME SQUARE. My friends and I were having trouble find the place because the entrance was a side entrance. Once inside they have a small shop with shirts and stuff that says bubba gump. Then the hostess will escort you upstairs. There's a lot of seating and PERFECT FOR GROUPS.
I'm not a big fan of deep fried shrimp as my entree so i ordered fish and chips which is another deep fried food. Came here because a few of my friends were getting together.
The highlight of my meal was the SOUVENIR cup i ordered. -

Something told me to go to Red lobster, but I wanted to try a new restaurant and stem away from my usual boring routine. I came here thinking a restaurant devoted only to shrimp... My fave! But couldn't resist to review this restaurant right after eating. I had the Mama Blue's Southern Charmed Fried Shrimp for $17.99. I really don't know how cardboard taste, but the shrimp and the fries taste just like it. In fact, it didnt taste fresh. The hand-shaken 22 oz. Margarita didn't do it's job. I don't feel a buzz.... O wait. I think I feel some tingling, but any o' way. Margaritas weren't strong, food was horrendous and service wasn't great. All in all, I left unsatisfied and will not be returning here. The only reason why I gave it an extra star is because I watched Forrest Gump while eating this sorry ass food they call shrimp.

This review is based ONLY on their hush puppies, tortilla chips, and the delicious and 'aptly named Far Out dip.
The hush pups, dear God those things were exquisite and I've only used that word about two other times in my 20 years of living. They were seriously that good.
Now, I've had plenty of tortilla chips in my lifetime and I have come to the conclusion that I was a Mexican in a past life because no other person can consume endless amounts of Mexican cuisine like I can. Personal trivia aside, these tortilla chips were EVERYTHING. I ate about half of my serving without any dip because I was consumed by the orgasmic taste of the chips and forgot that I was in a restaurant, not to be confused with a magical tortilla man's casting couch.
The chips coupled with the dip (see what I did there? genius, I know) and I pretty much fell out of my chair. My reaction: "WHAT IS THIS MADE OF? GOD?!"
Pardon my blasphemous outburst. I tend to get overly excited when I find delicious food which is surprisingly hard to come by in NYC. One less star because the rest of my food wasn't as great. -
Review from Alyssa F.
My boyfriend had always wanted to try this place but I was always against it since I was not a seafood loving girl, but I recently found a love for shrimp which made me suggest we finally come here and try it out. Yes, it is a tourist trap, yes the wait is long, and yes the food is overpriced, but I actually really enjoyed what I had!
We came at an off time so the wait to be seated was not long. We were seated at table by a window so we were able to overlook Times Square as we ate. It was fleet week when we were there and there was a concert going on in Times Square so that was fun to watch while waiting for our food! One thing that was cute were the license plates on our tables that would indicate if you needed your waiter or waitress to come over, very nice touch!
We started out with the Greenbow Tenders. It was a bucket full of spicy chicken strips served with bleu cheese dip. They were so good, not too spicy and just the right amount of crisp to them. My boyfriend and I shared
a huge, strong drink. We were able to take the glass home with us which would definitely be nice for people who are visiting NY (they give you a new glass, not the one you used).
I was so stuffed by the time our entrees came but I was very excited to try my coconut shrimp. It was delicious served with a sweet marmalade sauce and fries. A little high at 20 dollars but it was definitely something I would recommend for people that are not big fish lovers since they are disguised by a such a yummy taste! My boyfriend had the shrimp stuffed with crab meat in a garlic butter sauce and he devoured it! He said it was amazing although it was also priced at 20 dollars.
I really enjoyed my time here, my boyfriend and I left stuffed and we didn't have to eat the rest of the day! -

The food was average & had to wait for a few minutes to be seated. I had shrimp and it was nothing to be excited about. I remember being there during a crazy hot summer and the a/c inside this place was really really cold! Was kinda hard to enjoy your food when you are shivering!!

Review from Mike C.
This place is in the heart of Times Square. You can't miss the big neon sign. Came here for lunch with my cousin's family and not a lot of folks were dining in.
Our server was pretty funny who quizzed us on Forrest Gump, but other than that, that was the only good thing about the service. Despite the low turnout of patrons, the service was extremely slow. Not sure why it took so long to get our food. Also I had to ask twice to get some water.
Oh well, as for the food, I ordered the "I'm stuffed." Comes with large shrimp, stuffed crab, Monterey jack cheese and jasmine rice. I figured since i was dining in a shrimp restaurant, my main dish should have some sort of shrimp in it. I liked the shrimp and rice. The stuffed crab felt fattening and the cheese was hard to eat since it was melted directly on the steel plate. http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Other than that, this is a fun place, kid and tourist friendly. At least now I can say that I've actually ate inside a Bubba Gump Shrimp instead of saying that I passed by it. -
Review from Selene C.
Medford, MA
I enjoyed the service, the decor and the bar drinks. The food was bland and over cooked. I was hoping for some very good seafood but the stuffed shrimp I got were less than desirable; I did not finish them. I did order the bread pudding, again I didn't finish it as it just had no taste. I ate here alone when traveling to NY, the total cost of my bill for shrimp, dessert and one bar drink with tip was $52! (Shock) For an extraordinary meal this may be worth it, but I was devastated at this for one that was barely edible.

Review from Dr L.
Manhattan, NY
The coconut shrimp, the draft beer, the Caesar salad, big for two, no croutons, are the best values, for us, by far.
The prices are Time Square, touristy, there is really no potato besides fries, some drinks are as high as $11, not crazy, the crab legs, steak is almost $30.
Tilapia and some shrimp for $19 is difficult to order.
1,000s of restaurants sell tilapia.
Tilapia is a fish that grows very fast in a pond, they eat a wide variety of foods that cost little, they have no omega and it is the cheapest available protein in many poor countries. South America and especially China sell it to us.
I am happy when I do not see it on the menu of a nice restaurant.
I highly recommend Bubba Gump.
The service is great. I do wish if they ask me twice to refill my beer if they would refill my water.
Find a store to shop at, like Levi's, at sign up for a table, then shop for your 30 minute wait and bingo they have a table when you return. -

Not as great as I hoped. Service was ok. Atmosphere was cool. Food was ok. Felt like fast food restaurant.

Mama always said not to trust haters!
It's the second time I dine in this fine establishment and they don't disappoint.
Decor: Some say it's cheesy but come on people, it's a theme restaurant and for that kind it looks awesome, with movie themed pictures on the walls (besides looking like a shrimpers boat) . You can see Times square from almost every table and the servers are nice and are easy to stop thanks to the "Stop Forrest Stop" sign.
Food: This time I ordered the greasiest food out there "Fish 'n' Chips" but unlike some people claimed it wasn't greasy at all, it was crunchy and succulent inside. I also had their Clam and lobster bisque and it was heavenly! As an appetizer we shared their 1 1/3 lb Shrimpers net catch with half cajun and half garlic spice, it was perfect perfect perfect!!!
I can't wait to find another excuse to visit Manhattan so I can eat here again! -

First time here. Was a great experience. The food and the service were great. Is one of the best places to head to in case you are in NYC and yearning for some good seafood. Tried the Bourbon Street Mahi Mahi and it was excellent.
A tad expensive for the fare offered but overall highly recommended for all seafood aficionados !! -
Review from Phil H.
I ate here once. Just once.
Mediocre food, cheesy Bubba Gump kitschy decor, over the top stupifyingly friendly wait staff, and loaded with annoying tourists. Smack dab in the middle of Times Square tourist hell. Food tasted over salted and is basically a heart attack waiting to happen. Why would real New Yorkers eat here is beyond me.
My soul is still tortured because of this.Listed in: The "MEH" list, Am I here to amuse you?, Cheeseball New York!

Such a tourist trap with extremely greasy food.
The idea and set up of the restaurant are both cool, and all the references are on point, but I don't recommend anything to eat here. I left here hungry and disgusted, and annoyed that I fell for a touristy spot. Forrest Gump is such a good movie that I felt I had to give in, but never again. -
Review from Douglas P.
Stratford, CT
Bubba gets three stars because I get what I expect. I am not expecting to be blown away by the food, I am expecting an average food experience and better than average service.
Bubba's serves up on what you expect, a chain style restaurant hanging on to the coattails of a decade old (and more) movie. -

Queens Village, Queens, NY
The food here is delicious!!! I mean who doesn't love shrimp!!? And Forest Gump stuff everywhere!!
Even though i was already stuffed from going out to eat a mere 3 hours before I scarfed that shrimp down!
Our waitress was lovely. Very polite and and friendly. Also very attentive.
it was my birthday and they made me dance. I was so damn embarrassed lol I don't mean a quick little dance. I danced like a good 3 minutes. Like really!? A whole song! lol it was a good time. Everyone joins in and the whole section started clapping along with the singing. It was great. I'd def come back here to enjoy some food and a good time.
ANDDDD I got a frozen strawberry lemonade in a cup and it lights us! Love that damn cup. -
Review from Joan R.
Usually I'm skeptical of the kitschy chain restaurants on Time Square. They're immense and shiny, with their bright neon lights luring naive tourists like a fly to the flame, or in this case to overpriced mediocre Americana fare.
Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. looked like a shameless restaurant spin-off of the beloved Oscar winning film Forrest Gump.
Does it capitalize and exploit the nostalgic film for every penny? Definitely.
Is it good? Surprisingly yes.
Ambiance: A+
I LOVE Forrest Gump and the relics from the film which is scattered throughout the whole restaurant, which was interesting and it made me really giddy. The place is fun. Pictures from the movie is fun. The novelty of immersing yourself in the world of the film and shamelessly taking pictures of yourself sitting on the familiar bench next to the box of chocolate of life is super fun.
Service:A+
Service was really good. Everyone is really friendly and attentive. There is a little sign on the table which indicates to the waitstaff that you needed assistance. I had the little sign out once by accident and a server immediately showed up.
Every time I've been the host/hostess in the waiting area downstairs are high on sugar and really energetic.
Don't te anyone it's your birthday. They make you stand on top of a chair and sing around you.
Food:A
Not bad. Shrimp was cooked very we and the dishes we've tried were all very tasty. Nothing extraordinary but everything is pretty good.
Overall, it's a fun place to bring your friends and family. Service is great and the food is good. -

I am in love with this place...the food is awesome...but more than the food, it's the lively ambience...it's the best...I love the shrimp cocktail..the crab dishes are also too good...I would rate it more than red lobster when it comes to seafood..may be that's just me....
Thee staff are too good as well... U cd not ask for a more friendly atmosphere..
The margaritas are extremely good...one sd give a try...because the next time u can't wait for it. -

Review from Thomas Z.
Smack dab in the middle of the vortex of kitsch and national brand worship that is Times Square, there stands this monstrous boat of deep fried theme-oriented mediocrity.
It's like an even kitchier, albeit less annoying, version of Applebees. It's somehow 'cajun' themed, but everything is deep-friend frozen fish product.
I'll say that again to let it sink it, Industrial Fish Product. Not Fish.
Everything is probably minimum 3,000 calories, and yet this place is packed out with fat families gobbling down their fish product and "special cajun tartar sauce" with glee.
I'm about to start dry heaving thinking about the memory....
I had fish and chips just because I figured that deep fried anything can't be that bad. It was astonishingly bad and expensive - to pay for the kitch and rent in the center of Hell. -

Live on Long Island and visit the city often.
LOCATION: Right in the heart of Times Square, great location.
DECOR: Nicely decorated, fun and cute.
FOOD/DRINKS: Pretty tasty food. I ordered the spinach artichoke dip and coconut shrimp. Satisified with both. Ordered a Mango Mojito, HIGHLY recommend! It was so delicious.
SERVICE: Great!!! The staff was so friendly, not only our waitor made friendly conversation with us but even the host did. Waitor played a Forest Gump trivia game with our table, we did terrible but still won a handful of peppermints. -

This place is okay, not amazing. We had the Shrimper's Heaven-coconut shrimp, chilly shrimp, and tempura shrimp with fries (this was okay-IMO, it's kinda overpriced) and the Shrimp Snack Mac and Cheese (this was reallyyy good-we ended up getting another order), and strawberry short cake (the cake itself was not that tasty). Service was sort of atrocious and the food took so long to come out. I'd definitely go back for the mac and cheese, though.

I haven't been to Bubba Gump in awhile so I forgot what was on their menu. My fiance and I shared a few things, they were just ok.
What do I expect eating that kind of food in NY anyway?
I have to say we did have a good server. -

This place has seriously gone downhill since the last time I went here which was 2 years ago
My sandwich shrimp o boy was a bit overcooked and the bread was hard as a rock
I'm going somewhere else next time I'm in times square -
Review from Jaimie L.
This restaurant has great service and the food doesn't disappoint, it's good, not fantastic--of course being centered in Times Square it's a major tourist attraction. So, if you are a fan of the movie Forrest Gump or a native New Yorker looking to take your Passport-toting relative to a laid back venue (and to get in some sightseeing) then this is a good place to consider because the menu has something for just about anyone. While you wait for your order you'll be quizzed about the movie by your server and that's usually fun. For drinks, I usually go for their strawberry lemonade or their blue Hawaiian (for a lil somethin' extra).
During my last visit, we ordered a sampler for appetizers. For our meal the Texas Cajun Chicken sandwich with fries, baby back ribs, and the steamed shellfish--after tasting everyone else's food I was, to say the least, stuffed as I waddled my way back to the car. And we get to keep our "Bubba Gump" glasses too (actually you get a new one downstairs on your way out). I've come here about three times, and I've enjoyed each visit. -
Review from Alida H.
Came here for dinner... It was expensive, but good. Had the fish with mango pineapple salsa and it was delicious. I definitely recommend it. Their Bubba's far out dip was also very good, it was just a lot greasier than what I'm used to as far as dips go. Their mixed drinks were also delicious, and whats cool is that you get to "keep" the cup. We didn't know that "keep" the cup meant go downstairs to the gift shop and get a new cup... we thought it was the actual cup we were drinking from... don't embarrass yourself now... :P
I'd definitely come back if I were in town again (: -

SO FLIPPIN' AMAZING!
The waiter we had was INCREDIBLY NICE AND ENTERTAINING. He was so kind and he didn't just speed past us after getting our orders. He actually stayed and conversed.
The service is AMAZING. The food comes quickly and it's good quality too. I mean, I absolutely dislike seafood, but they made me LOVE it now.
The ambiance is nice and casual. No need for dressing up.
And my favourite part, Forrest Gump paraphernalia EVERYWHERE. And they play the music used in the flim.
My favourite restaurant in NYC -

Rego Park, NY
The atmosphere is pretty good here but not the food. I sat at a table overlooking Times Square on the second floor so for the view I feel that the prices was not expensive. Everything is Applebee's quality and taste which is not saying much.
If you are a tourist, you did not come all the way to NYC to eat at Bubba Gump's right? If you insist on eating here then just get a frozen drink, those are not bad. Serivce is good but loud. -

Wallingford Center, CT
Bottom line: This is such a fun place to go -- especially if you are visiting Times Square, NYC. It's obviously a little pricey because it's in the center of times square, but the food is good, the prices aren't outrageous, and if you like the movie, "Forest Gump," you can't beat the ambiance.
I work down the street from Bubba Gumps and I still have gone to this restaurant with friends after work -- so it's not only for tourists! I usually get (plane and simple) the BBQ burger, because I'm not a huge fish person. But if you like ANY seafood..than they definitely have a great menu for you!
Ask to sit near a window -- they have awesome views of Times Square (lots of fun!) -
Review from Dana R.
Its a decent place to get a bite to eat. They have great little memorabillia from the movie such as a model of jenny , pictures , etc. The food was pretty good (not excellent) and the service was pretty fast and friendly. I did feel rushed to make my order but obviously in the middle of times square do you really have a choice to sit around and gawk and oodle over every little thing? no.
The drinks were kind of pricey but they tasted pretty good and were colorful(girly ones) -
Review from Shinko S.
The name Bubba Gump always caught my eye (Thanks Forrest!) so after a show that I saw on Broadway, I decided to check a few things out. Now the service I liked a lot, the hostesses and the waiters are extremely nice (Hi Frank!). The decor is very nice as well.
Now I saw in review to get the hush pups so I ordered them...the sauce was good but I just thought to myself, I can get these shrimp balls at a dim sum joint for $1.50. Then I ordered the "Stuffed" Shrimp. The meal was alright, portion was small, shrimps were overstuffed with "stuffing", rice was fair. I wasn't too fond of the puddle of grease after my plate. -
Review from Patty C.
Clifton, NJ
I went to this restaurant before a show last year after passing by it countless times due to the tourist trap look of it, but I have to say... I was pleasantly surprised! Yes, there is a wait and yes, the prices are up there, but the food was so friggin DELICIOUS and I love me some seafood. They also have a wide variety of drinks.
I ordered the Bourbon Street Mahi Mahi - grilled fish and shrimp with a bourbon sauce over mashed potatoes and let me tell you... it took all I had in me not to lick the plate! Yummy sauce. I also have to add that they have GREAT service here. They have this plaque that you flip over at your table if you need your server, so if you don't need them, they do not harass you to hurry up and leave like a lot of NYC restaurants do.
We were also in and out in an hour which is not as bad as I thought it'd be. I see myself coming back here. -

Really good food and fun environment! I loved the staff. The food did not have the spice I expected but it was good! You can see time square from the windows.
