Ok, it's a touristy, themed chain. It's not local, nor is it overly cheap. (It doesn't seem like anything on the Lahaina waterfront is). However, this location has amazing ocean sunset views. I'm a sucker for sunsets.
They serve Kona Brewing Company beer... Not quite local, but it comes from the big island - so pretty darn close.
I enjoyed the shrimp tacos. For $11.99, it was a decent deal. The 2 types of salsas that come with it were awesome - homemade, with just enough spice. Without the salsa, the tacos would have been very bland.
2.5 stars for the food, plus 1.5 stars for the view. Come for the sunset, and get a table on the edge of the balcony. You won't be disappointed. -

Very delicious! As all bubba gump's are :)
We started with the shrimp mac and cheese - SO GOOD!!! Breaded and baked, so cheesy, delicious!
For my entree I had the coconut shrimp - very good. I've had better, but still very good.
My husband had the fish sandwich - also very good!
Overall - I liked it! It's a chain of course so you know what you're getting if you have ever been to one before, but it is always good! The view is amazing - the location couldn't be better. -

Yummy Beverages and tasty appetizers!
My First visit to a Bubba Gump Restaurant! Moderately priced, quick friendly service. Excellent Gift Shop!
-1 star for being a chain with zero originality between locations. -

We have went here twice on this trip, it's been ok to good both times Service was great both times. $'8 plus dollar drinks gets old atleast to me. We had two orders of shrimp, saled and one drink apiece last night $80 for meal didn't see why, but location was nice. Just an FYI as well their shrimp are all farmed. I am a commercial fisherman in Ak. So I was diss appointed about that as well.

Very pricey for so so food. The drinks were pretty good but the food was really bland for southern based recipes. You are mainly paying for the Forrest Gump theme and cute trivia from the waiters.

Not bad for a chain restaurant. Great location in Maui right on the ocean... the waves literally crash into the wall of the restaurant. The shrimp tacos were amazing and the chicken salad was pretty good.... large salad.

I'm being generous & rounding up to 4 stars from 3 1/2 because it is in a superb spot in Lahaina, Maui. Great service. And great shrimp!
I had never been to a BG before even though I've seen them everywhere in my travels. We were on Maui in early February with Mom & Dad and looking for an alternative to Moose Mc Gillicuddys. Love Mooses but wanted some variety.
Hubby had the excellent stuffed shrimp. Mom had the shrimp sampler. Dad had fried shrimp and I had the shrimp tacos. All items were cooked to order & served quickly. Took advantage of the "Stop Forrest Stop" sign to flag down a server for a second beer. Fun!
The huge tree in the center of the restaurant as you walk in is amazing!! Try for a window seat.
Tip- Park down at the lot near Hilo Hatties and buy a little souvenir there or at the ABC store & you get free validation. :) -

Still on Maui for work... and yet AGAIN I eat somewhere that we have back on Oahu. WTH Lily?! I know I know... anywho... I just looooove me some Bubba Gump, so the co workes and I hit up this place after work.
We waited about 15 minutes to be seated and ended up chillin at the bar. We ordered a few drinks (fruity "island" drinks) and our bartender was chill, friendly, and fun.
I ordered the "I'm Stuffed" shrimp. Butterfly shrimp stuffed with crab and shrimp filling with jasmine rice and a piece of garlic bread. I always get stuck between choosing this or the fried mahi mahi and fries. It came out fresh and tasted delicious. The drinks were okay; overpriced and not strong enough for me I'm not sure I expected much more from the chain.
The view of the ocean is absolutely beautiful (especially at sunset). I think I spent almost $40 with tip. Fun atmosphere and good food! -

This was my first time eating at a Bubba Gump, and I'd always wanted to try it. Coming from Seattle, we don't have these, and I figure it could be good despite the fact it's a chain. The service was the best we had in Maui. Very friendly, energetic and personable. Fantastic view. We got a ceasar salad, nothing that special but a solid choice. The cajun shrimp was awesome. Loved the heat, not too spicy at all but tons of flavor. The bourbon mahi mahi was wonderful, as well. From the mixed reviews, I think this place may have some hits and misses, but these were definitely big hits at our table.

Review from Joshua B.
Bubba Gumps is okay. I guess I am kind of spoiled in Seattle when it comes to seafood. The hush puppies were good, probably the only thing I actually enjoyed. I also ordered the Run Across America Sampler, that cost $14.99, which had dip and chips, hush puppies, chilly shrimp, spicy chicken strips and mama blue's fried shrimp. Everything but the hush puppies were kind of bland. Not to impressed
Another item off the menu we tried was the Shrimper's Heaven that cost $21.49. It had a variety of different kinds of shrimp and fries. The coconut shrimp wasn't to bad but some of the others could have used a little bit more flavor. Maybe next time I am in Maui I might give it another chance but I doubt it. -

Was it moronic for to come to the beautiful island of Maui...only to dine at a Bubba Gump? No, not necessarily.
We had just arrived and unpacked in the condo we rented and wanted something sit down but nothing that will kill too much time. Lo and behold, Bubba Gump had no wait and it still had a nice spot for us by the window to watch the sunset.
This place gets shrimp done and that's about it. Yea, it may be a tad steep on the prices...it's friggin' shrimp, but the view and the staff here more than makes up for it. Music's not overblaring so we weren't yelling at each other to enjoy our conversation. -

Avoid the Shrimp Mac and Cheese, not very tasty but everything else was pretty good. Hard to review a chain...

I guess it was way too crowded when we came in. We wanted to get some appetizers and some drinks before we go in and watch the show. I ordered fish and chips and a mai tai. Not bad. It was really good. I enjoyed it a lot.
Maybe I need to return and try the dinner. Maybe next time. Our waiter was way too busy to really tend to us for me to say it was AWESOME service.
I still love Maui! Whoo hoo! -

Total tourist trap. It's in a beautiful location by the beach. The food is average and pricey. The service is good. Nothing memorable about the experience. It was walking distance to my hotel. What was I thinking eating at Bubba Gump Shrimp while I should be eating at the local restaurants :)

Quick and dirty review --
Food: overall quite good, but somewhat too heavy of a reliance on frying
Service: good, employees are full of energy and only want to promote a positive atmosphere
Comfort: too tightly packed in restaurant, barely enough space to move when seated
OVERALL: good food and experience, but comfort limitation is significant since this is supposed to be a sit down restaurant, hence the 3 star rating. -
Review from Taylor K.
It's our third time to Bubba Gump. The atmosphere is fun and laid back. And the view is amazing!!! The staff are pretty fun and friendly. Our server Bob, did Forest Gump trivia questions with the patrons during the meal and I thought that was funny.
The food is yummy but I have to mention it's not a five star restaurant quality. I would give 3.5 only because I think it is little bit pricey especially on the shrimp appies. I think the entree is reasonable priced. I had the accidental fish and it was fairly good.
I give 5 stars for the view and the vibe and for being kid friendly. (Being a mom to a toddler, this is an important factor when choosing restaurant.)
And 3.5 stars for the food.
And I love the free cups you get as a souvenir when you order the drinks.
Definitely a place to visit when you are in Maui if you visit Lahaina. -

We did the call-ahead seating and I'm glad we did. I've been to Bubba Gump's in Monterey, CA so I knew they'd be hoppin'. We only had to wait a handful of minutes before being seated. It was LOUD in there. Especially when someone announced a birthday and insisted everyone participate.
Our server talked us into the garlic bread...it was divine buttery cheesy goodness. I've noticed a lot of servers suggest items off the menu like the garlic bread and its not complimentary-I'm learning. They're not overtly aggressive about it, but I guess its how they word it.
Because they were exceptionally busy, we had several of the staff waiting on us. The "run forrest run" and "stop forrest stop" sign came in really handy. You can feel like royalty if you play your cards right. I think more restaurants out there should have this.
We ordered the coconut shrimp with fries and the stuffed shrimp. I've had the stuffed shrimp before-its my favorite. Shrimp and crab with a lovely sauce and rice. It was piping hot and took a while to eat without burning the inside of my mouth.
Total for the garlic bread, coconut shrimp and stuffed shrimp was $45. We just had water. They are pricey, but I think that applies for any Bubba Gump's. Oh, and they have a huge, beautiful monkey pod tree growing in the middle of the restaurant. Take a moment to read the plaque about it. -

I've eaten at Bubba Gump on Maui many times over the years, but I can no longer recommend it. In my opinion, the quality of the food has declined significantly, and is now overpriced for what is served, even taking into consideration the location. In my opinion, the service was also well below par.
We'll start with the service because that set the tone. Bubba Gump is known as a lively, fun place to eat, and the service at least historically has generally been quite good. This time, it was just a downer.
Our server seemed completely disinterested. It was me, my wife, and our two young girls. The waiter asked to take our orders. I know they have kid menus, but I had to ask for kid menus. If I didn't know enough to ask about the kid menus, this guy would have been happy to have my kids trying to order from the adult menu. If you are drinking alcohol with your meal, good waiters usually bring you water, too. I had to ask for water. Kids usually get a kick when the wait staff quiz them on Forrest Gump trivia. Our waiter couldn't be bothered.
It took a long time for our food to hit the table, which was a drag because we were starving and because it wasn't busy at all. I have my suspicions about why it took so long for our food to hit the table (see below).
When the food finally did hit the table, I could tell by looking at the plates it wasn't going to be very good, and indeed it wasn't.
I ordered my favorite, Jenny's accidental fish, which is two pieces of broiled Mahi Mahi, rice, and shrimp. Looking at the plate, the portions seemed smaller than I remember (I eat here at least once a year). The Mahi was not good at all. It tasted frozen and overdone. I suspect it took so long for our plates to hit the table because the cook was waiting for the Mahi to thaw and then cooked it without it being completely thawed. The shrimp were smaller than I remember and were served tails and all, which required me to fish them out of the sauce to eat them with my hands. This entree is $19.95. In my opinion, there is no excuse for serving frozen Mahi on Maui, and certainly not at that price point. Aren't the local waters teeming with Mahi Mahi?
My wife ordered the baja shrimp. She's not picky, and she conceded to me her food was just OK.
My girls both ordered the kids pizzas. Those pizzas looked as thin as they could be and looked to me like they had been sitting. I suspect the pizzas sat on account of the frozen Mahi not being ready to go.
Near the end of the meal, the manager stopped by our table and asked, "is everything tasting great?" I told him, "no." When I explained, for example, that the Mahi tasted frozen and overdone, he told me it is frozen but it always thawed fully before being cooked and told me the cook just probably overcooked it. He offered to get me another piece of fish or a desert as "as an apology," which I declined. How is eating more bad food going to improve the situation? Further, what is my family supposed to do while I wait for the cook to prepare another piece of frozen fish?
The final insult came with the check. When the check arrived, I saw that our waiver charged us for a light up glass for one of the kid drinks without getting an OK first. We've had the light up glasses foisted on us before, so I knew the routine--show the receipt to the cashier at the gift shop on the way out to receive a new glass in the box. Our waiter would have been content to say absolutely nothing about the light up glass we were charged for. I had to ask. When I asked, he told us, you can take the one on the table with you if you want or you can get a new one at the gift shop. I wonder how many people sitting in this guy's station walk out of there without the glass they paid for. Again, the message was disinterest loud and clear.
We go to Maui just about every year, and Bubba Gump has always been one of the places we eat at, usually more than once. I can't say we will be back again in the future. -

Gf never came here before, so she wanted to try it. We ordered a bunch of appetizers from here. The best thing was the shrimper's net catch of Bubba's Garlic Spice, and that is only alright.

I went back & forth between 3 and 4 star... so it is probably actually a 3.5 star for me.
I have eaten at this chain several times and it is usually just "Meh". This was Hubs' first time. We waited about 15 minutes to get waterfront. We sat is PLENTY of time for the sunset on our last night in Maui... that earns some starts right there! (Location and sunset views.)
Our server was wonderful. (Ack! I am forgetting his name now, maybe Jonathan? He was from Washington State, taking a break from college because he didn't love his chosen major.) He was fun, upbeat and at least seemed to enjoy his job and people.
We love that everyone works as a team and when they see the "stop forest, stop" sign, EVERYONE will stop to help you... Sooooo much better than having to wait while your food gets cold to ask your server for more sauce (or whatever).
We got peel & eat shrimp appetizer in garlic salt. They were a bit mushy and flavor was just ok. We shared shrimp & veggie skewers. We both liked them. We also shared the shrimp scampi on linguine. Pretty good. We ALSO got dessert (hey, it was our last night ;) Hubs got mud pie (enormous). It was not coffee ice cream (cho & vanilla) and it had snickers bar in it. So it might not be to everyone's liking... but it could EASILY be shared by 3-4 people. I got the single serving strawberry shortcake which left me wanting more - in a good way. It did not have enough strawberries at all and it had a strange but yummy sauce on it (maybe butterscotch?).
They food was just OK which is why I landed on 3 starts, but the overall experience and location and our festive moods paired with our good server, made the night overall better than the food on its own which is why I could've maybe seen going up to 4 stars. -

Ate here when on vacation in Maui. Fun atomosphere but the seafood is pretty mediocre. Had some shrimp and crab legs. Shrimp was greasy and the fries were pretty blah. Pretty expensive for what you get.

The view itself deserves at least 5 stars, but taking into consideration the food, this place gets 4 stars.
I always come here with my family when we visit Maui and their location is AMAZING! Nothing can beat this view unless you're actually sitting on the beach. I love all the Forrest Gump memorabilia and decorations all over restaurant and the waiters and waitresses are always very attentive.
Foodwise, this place is definitely a place for shrimp lovers. We always order the Shrimper's Net Catch which is basically a bucket of shrimp soaked in either garlic sauce or cajun sauce. My recommendation? Get a mix of both. Other dishes I've tried are the Dumb Luck Coconut Shrimp which is pretty good (my brother's favorite), and the Shrimp Scampi (just average, the last time I had it, it was definitely very disappointing). Otherwise, the drinks are pretty good and you can even get a souvenir cup with some drinks!
Overall, if you're in maui, come here for the view and the drinks and for the Forrest Gump trivia! -

The location is unbeatable, we sat practically on the water on Front Street. Considering the location, prices are reasonable, especially the kids meal. Their popcorn shrimp was battered lightly and quite good. The kids smoothies were made from fresh fruit and cost only $2.95. Service was friendly and attentive despite the full house.
Our Shrimp dish was a massive sodium overload! We got half garlic butter and half cajun. The garlic half was way way too salty. Next time, we would send it back to the kitchen and get a fresh batch. Otherwise, not too bad for a touristy restaurant. -

We love shrimp and had the bucket of garlic butter shrimp..it was so fresh and yummy! We also had the baby back ribs which were amazing and fall off the bone... we also came back for lunch during our trip to have a very laid back and relaxing lunch. Fantastic views during our meals and real friendly staff. Beer battered fish was also excellent.

I feel like in Yelp I write more while on google places I shorten what I write. Google places I wrote:
"A little gimmicky, but the food was good. I still prefer Kimo's, but if shrimp is what you love, you'll love this place."
Here I feel i should elaborate more, especially since I haven't reviewed the other places I have on Places.
Lahaina has a ton of gimmicky places to eat at. I get made fun of by people who look down on Kimo's, since I do like their food.
Bubba Gumps, however, had way too much of a theme. Of course, it makes them a lot of money, so why wouldn't they want to push that? The restaurant was crowded and a little difficult to navigate, but the end result is, people want a place to sit and watch the sunset while eating a meal. Bubba Gumps provides that at a competitive cost! the food isn't terrible, and you do get scenery of the sunsets over the ocean with Lanai in front of you. Hard to beat that. If you love shrimp, you will especially love it. -
Review from Dustin D.
Corona, CA
The views at sunset are spectacular as the whole back side of the dinning area faces the water and the windows are wide open to let in the cool breeze coming off of the water. I love the service concept of having signs to let your server know when you need something. "Run Forest Run" or "Stop Forest Stop", my glass of tea was always full and it took little effort to let the wait staff know I needed something.
Over all the food was satisfying. We started with the peel and eat Cajun shrimp, the had good flavor and the packs were butterflied open so getting them out of the shell took very little effort. As an entree my wife and I split the shrimp scampi. The flavor was good and they brought it to the table already split.
I love it when a restaurant is accommodating to splitting meals and takes the time to put it on two separate plates, rather then bring the full entree and and extra plate making us have to divide it at the table. It's a little thing but its something I appreciate. -

I liked this place a lot. Good food, great service, great atmosphere. Creative restaurant idea, our server even gave us some "Forrest Gump" trivia questions which was cool. It was a little pricy but that's expected for seafood.
Got the crab stuffed shrimp (which is actually just crab meat on top of shrimp) and it was great. Margaritas were also very good and served in large quantities. -

I use to compete in numerous competitions, nationwide, so I've traveled a lot over the years. I can't remember the name of the hotel I stayed at or anywhere else I visited off-hand but one thing I remember perfectly was Bubba Gump Shrimp Co! It was my first time at any of them and they left a lasting impression. My team and I had such a fun dinner here and if I'm ever in Lahaina again, I will definitely come back!

Things started off great..... Took advantage of call ahead seating. Worked like a charm. Walked right up and right in...It was an off nite from then on.....Service was slow and disorganized. Provided free appetizer coupon to waiter upon ordering drinks and we are still waiting for it to arrive. My daughters received their drink orders promptly but our other drinks came out with dinner. Food was ok for the price. Have to give props to the view. Not a great place to unwind after a busy day.

This is my favorite theme chain restaurant, but this particular location edges the others out (the ones we've been to, so far, anyway) because of the oceanfront view and location. We got a great table at the open window- right in splish splash front. It wasn't huge splashes, just enough to remind us of how close we were- we love a good view. My husband thought it was cool. This kind of thing adds to the whole dining experience.
Like I said, before in my previous review of Bubba Gump in Oahu, the food is always very good, the servers are quick (use the license plates), the trivia and the memorabilia is fun- which is why we always come back.Listed in: 808 Trips

Yum, yum, yum. The staff are friendly, the restaurant has a view to die for and delicious food. It's a chain restaurant, but a good one. Try the Yin Yang Shrimp Salad (the size is generous) and the Dumb Luck Coconut Shrimp. (Skip the sample platter appetizer and try something else as an app.)
I know some people are wary of chain restaurants, but I don't think you would be unhappy with your choice of Bubba Gump. -
Review from Diana M.
A fun themed restaurant from the movie Forrest Gump.
The waiters make it a fun place to eat and you can't beat the view: right on top of the ocean.
Let me say, that I'm a total sucker for souvenir glasses. For a reasonable price with an alcoholic drink they offered a free glass that you can pick up in the gift shop after the meal. I ordered an amazing Strawberry lemonade (with lemon vodka) that I could not put down and my husband ordered a blueberry lemonade with a flashing light up cup. For food, my husband had fish and chips and I had the shrimp. The food we weren't as impressed with, it was pretty standard but everything else made up for it.
The only problem is the layout of the place. The tables are very cramped together and our table for two was so tiny that we had trouble holding two plates and our drinks on it along with the condiments already on the table.
They are obviously more known for their shrimp, so if you love shrimp, it's worth checking out this place -

Ok, so we were reluctant to go to a mainland restaurant in Maui, but all the local restaurants we had tried on our other trips have gone way down hill....so we decided to try this one, since it sits right on the water in an awesome location in Lahaina. On our first visit we were not disappointed. We went just after the dinner hour rush, about 8pm, and we were seated in 10 minutes. Our waiter was Brosnan, from Atlanta, and he was awesome, very entertaining, smart, and attentive. The food was out fast, and the quality excellent (for Lahaina).
The trivia time was extremely funny, and the manager stopped by to say hello.
I had my 3 teens with me, and the pricing was very reasonable (again, for Lahaina).
Let me suggest:
- call 30 minutes ahead and get on the list.
- go between 7:30 and 8pm.
- ask to be seated in an area served by Brosnan.
- if you are having desert, order the strawberry shortcake. -

We were SHOCKED to say the least. Allow me to break it down into pros and cons for you...
PROS:
- Incredible location directly on the water in Lahaina-- BEAUTIFUL
- Delicious food, shockingly delicious (BOURBON MAHI MAHI IS SO INCREDIBLE)
- Fantastic wait staff-- very friendly, knowledgable and they WORK FOR THEIR TIPS! They sense when you need something
- Great prices, great VALUE
- One of the ONLY places open late in West Maui, so it's VERY convenient. And you don't feel like you get the evil eye for coming in late, they treat it like a party and you're invited!
CONS:
- I don't know if this counts, but it's a chain, so it's not a TRUE MAUI dining experience, but WHEN we return to Maui we WILL return to Bubba Gump -

Talk about a tourist trap- ick!
What an overpriced joke. The view is great but that's about all this place has to offer.
Our waitress was so cheesy, she reminded me of the movie, "Waiting" (and I'm very sorry to say that because I know she probably tried very hard- but maybe trying too hard is not the right deal for this place).
We ordered our drinks immediately (we all agreed that the booze must have been left out- did they run out of tequila?), and we ordered our appetizers; noting to the staff we didn't want to be rushed. 5 min. later the appetizers came out and we were rushed to order our meals (noting a second time that we didn't want to be rushed).
Not even 10 min later our meals came, we hadn't finished our appetizers yet thus there was no room on our table for our food...hmm...basics of food service. This issue happens to be one of my pet peeves when dining out- time it right people! I've worked in the food service and I know you can do it! Think!
Overall we left unimpressed and in need of a "real" drink!
Shame on us for coming here in the first place.
After all my bantering of this place I will say this- Great view! That is really all this place has going for it, view view view.
