Sherman Oaks, CA
I just love this place!
It's tiny, yes, but the food is divine!
Not to miss: Papaya Salad, Panang Curry, and the Garlic Spare Ribs....
The service is always attentive, and the prices are amazingly low. -

Tofu Pad Thai = ick
The tofu was pretty much raw, there was almost no peanut flavor in the noodles, and the mung bean sprouts were pretty wilted.
Tofu Panang Curry = "never again!"
Made me feel sick to my stomach...
Why does cheap delivery have to be bad food?! -
Review from Jewel L.
North Hollywood, CA
After being a pretty big fan of this place, eating here, having it delivered, referring many friends, taking friends and family here, I got sick from their food last night.
My nephews were visiting, and i haven't seen one of them in 9 months (he was out of the country), and the other one in about a month. The only thing we shared was dinner. We each drank different things.
They got sick as well.
Stomach ache to vomiting.
I called this morning, when they opened. I wanted to let them know we got sick, and look into what it may have been, and toss whatever it was out. Or all the things we had...we had Chicken satay, Tom yung soup with Shrimp, Shrimp Pad Thai, Pineapple Shrimp Curry, and Squid salad. Papaya salad in refrigerator will be tossed today.
The person on the phone asked me why I didn't call last night.
It was about 10-11 pm when we got sick. They are closed.
She asked what I wanted...so I suggested a refund since we all got sick.
She said all she would offer is 15-20% off next order, and argued with me that I have only been a customer since 2010. Well, maybe that was when I started having ti delivered, but i have been going there for years, paying in cash in person, so no online account for delivery.
Wow....not going back. Lots of other Thai places to go to.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I work right next to this place and had it delivered this past week for lunch. I ordered the pad thai, my collegaue the pad see ew, and my other colleauge the ginger mushroom chicken, considering the price i thought it was more than worthwhile (lunch special 4.99 for an entree plus salad!) however, the actual quality of the food was not amazing. My pad thai lacked flavor and the noodles were too cooked. For 4.99 though, you can't really expect too much.

Review from Traci Y.
Glendale, CA
Are you ready for some home cooking? This tiny restaurant located in a small mini mall on the corner of Coldwater and Sherman Way was a delight. I was very intrigued after reading posts about thai style tapas dishes. My GF and I had to try it. Food is especially good when you see little old thai ladies in the kitchen.
We ordered an appetizer, fried rice cakes with shrimp sauce, Yum. Recommended by many we ordered the papaya salad with fried catfish, Delish! Tom yum with sole, excellent. 2 small tapas dishes, thai spaghetti with green curry, and pork hocks over rice, little small delights. To finish it off we tried their spicy pork pad kee mao, and spicy shrimp fried rice. We were so full we could not even finish either of them. We decided to pack them up and eat them the next day for my late night Thanksgiving snack.
All in all with all the food we ordered out bill was barely $53. What a great meal. If I am ever in the area again, I will come back to try their other house specialties. I've got my heart set on the spicy duck with morning glory! -

Los Angeles, CA
Me and some friends were in the North Hollywood area and were hanckering some good thai food. So I check the YELP and found Bua Siam Thai in N.H. All I can say is the food was INCREDIBLE!!! We ordered the following:
Fried Rice with Tofu: when you order this dish in most thai restaurants they serve you fried rice with big blocks of hard tofu but Bua Siam gives you small crumbled pieces of tofu which make the Fried Rice dish more
presentable and edible. So A+ on the rice!
Pad Thai with Shrimp: The dish was not greasy or oily like some thai places. The pad thai was full of good sized shrimp and full of natural flavors from the sauce, cilantro, peanuts, and sweet rice noodles. A+!!!
Pad See Eew with Tofu: Again, the dish was not oily or greasy but had a great consistency. The taste of the rice noodles is complimented with the sweet soy sauce and fresh broccoli they use. A for the pad see eew!
Tom Yum Soup with Fish Fillet: we ordered this soup simply to try the fish and we were happily surprised with all the different flavors of the soup. The flavor of lemongrass, lime juice, mushrooms, chili, seasoning, and fish all hit you at different times to make for a tasty soup! On a cold day or if your sick I would recommend the Tom Yum Soup with Fish and for only $9 bucks it's a GREAT Deal!!!
Restaurant: The restaurant is a cozy casual restaurant with wooden chairs and tables nothing special but fits perfect for those casual meals. Also, their friendly and attentive staff is a plus!
Overall, I would highly recommend Bua Siam Thai in North Hollywood
for a savory and flavorful thai dishes.
Cheap Eats Under $10: Lunch Specials for $4.99 include a house salad and any dish on their lunch menu. You gotta love that deal. -

I've been coming to Bua Siam for at least 4 years ever since they opened. It is a hole in the wall find, but the place rock and it's great to have such a special place to go that isn't too popular yet.
If you like Wonton Soup, they have the best Thai Style Wonton Soup I have ever had. They also have delicious Tom Yom Soup. I don't care for spicy so I always ask for it to be mild and it comes PERFECT in taste. What I like the most about Bua Siam is the lunch special menu. For less than $5 you can get a filling meal.
Bua Siam is a little hard to spot in the shopping center, but if you are persistent, you will be a true gem hidden in the corner! -

Thought this place was a good find! Delivers on Sunday. We ordered Shrimp Pad Thai (comes with tofu which was not listed on the menu), the crispy calamari (the breading is sort of thicker than I imagined it would be, but they are large, thick pieces of calamari) and garlic spare ribs. Everything was delicious and it didn't take long for the order to arrive. Accept credit cards and the driver was nice. They even included a free thai tea! YUM

North Hollywood, CA
I read a rave review of this place from the LA Times, and can say that the LA Times is now dead to me.
Service - Bullshit. Complete bullshit. We were seated at a dirty table (there was only 1 other patron in the restaurant, there were several other tables available), I had to ask to have the sticky red crap wiped off the table. Then I had to ask to have the sticky food crap swept from my foot area (after some of the rather large amount was already on my shoe). Then I had to ask for a spoon for my tea. She brought all of my food (app and entree at the same time) out before any of my companions...which brings me to the food...
Food - Salty. Salty, salty, salty entree. App of fried tofu was VERY overcooked. I asked for a side of peanut sauce and never received it. This food was really sub-par.
Price - The price was fine. The food is cheap. I would be willing to pay double what they charge for a better experience.
Misc - The place was freeeeeezing. Uncomfortably air conditioned. I had a sweater on and was still cold.
Why is it so hard to find consistently good Thai food in the Valley? -
Review from Shay A.
Van Nuys, CA
This is my favorite spot to get Thai food, hands down. I go to this restaurant at least once a month if not more.
The food is spectacular and they make it exactly how you like it. My boyfriend his a huge spice nut, so when he asked them to make his Pad See Yew as spicy as it can get, they certainly delivered! I'm a fan of their Garlic Pepper chicken. They use fresh garlic and stir fry it with broccoli. It is a garlic lovers dream. Don't forget an order of sticky rice to mop up the sauce! Their egg rolls are perfectly cooked every time and never greasy. Their coconut chicken soup is rich and has a bit of a kick. Any of their curries are a must try though I'm partial to the Yellow Curry.
The only down fall of this place, and the reason why I only gave it four stars, is that if you go late in the evening (About an hour or two before they close) the service is lacking quite a bit which is confusing since it -is- a small venue. I would say visit between the hours of 12pm and 8pm. -
Review from Sandy S.
I usually order the papaya salad topped with fried catfish. It's one of their specials and it's delicious. I've also had their noodle dishes like the pad see ewe and pad thai and I loved it. It's a small restaurant and it's so cute inside...
The service is great! -

This is my favorite Thai place in America, hands down! I live in Connecticut so whenever I get to California, I make it a point to get there. The fact that they are halal is a huge plus for me, being Muslim. I had a very long conversation with the owner who explain how strict they are about cleanliness in their kitchen - they really go to extremes. She also explained how strict they are about the freshness of the meat. They carefully inspect even meat delivery and if there's any doubt they reject the delivery and will not order from that vendor again!! Their Pad Thai and Mussel Soup are my favorites. I've tried other dishes and have never been even slightly disappointed. I just hope they'll be there for years to come!

I love Bua! My husband and I have been eating here for about a year now. We go there or have it delivered. I like if we have it delivered that I just give them my phone number and they know where we are, tech savvy I like it.
Anyway, to the food. The food is GREAT and actually made by Thai people, always seems like a little old Thai lady is in the kitchen when we go. The fried rice is the BEST I've ever had. I usually get the yellow chicken curry which is fantastic, and get it to varying spiciness depending on my mood. My husband varies with his duck selections. The Sweet Roti is great and the eggs rolls are sometimes hit or miss. The glass noodle soup is GREAT for when you're not feeling well. Pad Thai is good as well as everything else we've had. We've never really had a bad food from here. The price is also great too. Also, if you order a certain amount of take out, you get a free Thai ice tea or coffee. The lunch deal is great too!!!! -
Review from William S.
Santa Clarita, CA
After leaving this place, my heart sang a traditional Thai folk song, with the graceful tenor of a Luciano Pavarotti. Sounds kind of odd, doesn't it? Well, not if you consider that my feet moved with the ease of a Brian Boitano as I glided out of there. The food? Ah, yes, the food. This, afterall, is what I came here for. Well, let's just say I felt like Kobayashi -- the "competitive eater" and hot dog-eating champ -- in the manner that the food was consumed.
I came here with a friend, and we had sat by the koi pond, with the trickling waterfall. I don't mean to profess overly-romantic notions, but it felt as if the whole place existed just for our short dining experience in Phuket. In actuality, this is just the part of North Hollywood that might as well be renamed East Thailand. I'm talking 3,000 miles east of Thailand, but enough to be considered an extension, based on the prevalence of Thai restaurants found on Sherman Way.
What makes me hold this place in such a high regard? It's that fact that it's so clean and austere that one wouldn't think to make such an ado about the place, yet it's comfortable enough to feel like you're eating at home. Or, maybe someone else's home. A nice, cozy one, with simple Ikea-like furniture.
I usually like to try more exotic fare when going out for Thai, but on this occasion I simplified things with an order of chicken pad thai, and duck. It was the most basic of dishes, but they did it right. And I can't find a reason not to give them 5 stars based on this experience.
The duck was flavorful and, most importantly, moist. I've found that duck at some places -- Toi, on Sunset, comes quickly to mind -- can taste pretty dry. The pad thai noodles were soft, and the dish was seasoned just right. The chicken was tender breast meat. And when you put the words "tender" and "breast," you're in for a smooth ride.
Alright, so perhaps that wasn't the best way to put it, but one thing usually leads to another, right? And, well, just know that a visit to Bua will lead to a satisfying evening, one in which you may find yourself literally singing its praises. Just make sure to go a little easier on the diners when you're belting out those arias on the way out. -

This place is awesome! Yum yum yum yum yum!!!
The Pad Thai was awesome. The Duck with Hot Basil Leaves was awesome. The rice was awesome. Even the water had a bit of awesomeness.
It's a small place with maybe 6 or 7 tables and its decor is nice. There is even a small fountain in the front with some great fish. I named the large gold one Trish the Fish. Hope it really is a girl.
Oh! And watch out for the spicy dishes!!! The first time I went we asked for MILD for the Duck and it was still quite spicy. Next time I went I said "Could you make it just a teenie-weenie bit spicy??? And I mean just a smidgen of spice!!" but then it didn't really have any spice to it. Next time I'l say half-mild. Oh boy, they aren't gonna like me there!Listed in: I Love to Eat!, Lunch Lovers, Thai Time, Thai me up, baby!!

I LOVE it!! It's an unexpected little gem! The flavor is really authentic, not your average American-style Thai taste.
Just try the most basic dishes like hot & sour soup, and you'll be able to tell.
Thanks to my Thai friend to steer me to this place, otherwise I'd never even notice it. -

Studio City, CA
We have been on the hunt for great, authentic Thai food and I think we've found it. It's a bit deceiving...the restaurant is this tiny little thing in a strip mall (good thing - plenty of parking) and on a busy street in NoHo. We found this place just 2 weeks ago and I've already been there four times. Each meal has been absolutely delicious -- my favorite dishes are chicken fried rice (careful, it's spicy!!), roasted duck over rice, sticky rice with pork jerky, and marinated grilled pork over egg noodles.
The coolest thing about the menu is that there is a tapas-like section where you can order smaller versions of popular dishes for $2.99 and taste a bunch of different dishes at once.
Highly recommended. -

North Hollywood, CA
There are a number of great Thai places in North Hollywood and I aim to try them all, but this is the only one I have been to that has this Tapas like tasting menu, which would be great for a group of friends or just a person who has not tried Thai...and wants to get a wide/varied introduction...My waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable of the food and we talked for a good while about Thailand itself, very amicable and informative.
There are something like 15 items that you can order for 3-4 dollars and you get sharable portions.
Mind you the place is inexpensive even if you are not ordering the smaller plates...but again the smaller potions would be a great social thing...
I tried "Larb" (Nothing to do with Bua Siam, but they do need to rename this dish for America as it is so close to an unappetizing American word) here for the first time, it's an odd Thai salad, and pretty darn good.
They have a $4.95 lunch special...and it's sweet Thai food for $4.95, why not?
And check out Taron bakery across the street, new Armenian bakery, get the spicy spinach boereks...
Other great NoHo Thai places...

Review from Tai F.
I was arrived a bit earlier than Ted but they seated me anyway. The inside is super tiny and really cute. The decorations are nice and it's clean; very well managed. Plus, there were adorable little fishes in a fountain by the door. We talked and I named them so don't get too attached if you see them.
The waitress was super attentive when I was by myself (refilled my water regularly) but after Ted arrived and we placed are crazy-large-for-two-people order she sort of tapered off. I eventually had to ask her to refill our waters and she never offered me another Thai Iced Tea. ::sigh::
We ordered tons of food (I did take tons home). Ted said his vegetable fried rice was okay but couldn't understand why they had put pepper throughout the entire dish. The mee krob was good. The northern Thai spaghetti was not so good. The pad thai was okay. The papaya salad with crispy catfish was good (curiously so) even though it looked like a giant sponge.
I think our ultimate distress is that I prefer Americanized Thai food. And this is just too authentic (which is awesome) for me.
The prices were very reasonable. The next time someone visits me from Thailand I will feel very comfortable bringing them here for some super authentic Thai food but until then I think I will have to stay away. :(
(PS. mostly Thai clientele=good sign) -

you're fucking hot! sooo hot, sooo delicious. you make me sweat, you taste great, smell fantastic, and you're quick. i don't have to sit around waiting for you for hours. you've got variety, and you're cheap. if i want a small bowl of noodles so that i can try the rest of you, then i can order a small bowl of noodles. if i want it all, you'll give it to me. you give me the option of choice and it's great!
tom yum noodles, god damn. boat noodles, oh god. green curry, fuck! beef jerky, jesus. sticky rice, give it to me!
dessert? oh hell yeah. thai style pancakes with condensed milk? so crispy yet so flaky...are you serious? is this a dream? -
Review from Maian T.
Their lunch special is $4.99 and covers all the standards - a small salad and noodles, or meat and vegetables stir fry. I got the pad kee mao. Not very spicy but I have a high spice tolerance. The greens were crunchy and fresh, and the noodles were not too salty. A taaad bit too oily for me though. A nice portion of food for only $5.
I also got one of their $3 bowls of noodles. SUPER TASTY! I got the egg noodles with pork and greens. Rich, flavorful, and the noodles were perfectly cooked.
Thai iced tea is strong and not too sweet @ $1.99.
I love the bright interior and friendly service. The food takes a little while to come out, so I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're in a hurry.
They have delivery (free with $15 min order) and pick up is available from a limited menu. I will definitely be taking advantage of this in the future.
In regards to the hainam chicken dish, the chicken itself is a little bland in that it is just boiled chicken, but I actually LIKE the fact that that it's less salty than Sananluang's and shredded into smaller pieces. The chicken dish I typically order here is the one with garlic rice, and their garlic rice is fantastic, and most likely much healthier than getting hainam-chicken style rice. It's fluffy and delicious and only $5 for a small lunch portion. 2nd favorite dish on the menu is their deep fried spare ribs. Don't forget the sweet and sour sauce if you're taking it to go. -

This is my preliminary review for Bua Siam after picking up a meal to go for a group of six:
1. Tom Yum Soup w/ chicken
Excellent soup, though I wish the chicken was slightly more tender. Still, I was thrilled that it was all white breast meat without a hint of gristle.
2. Beef Curry
Very nice mild curry, not too rich or sweet, with tender beef.
3. Mee-Krob
Probably the BEST Mee-Krob I've had ever, or at least as long as I can remember!
4. Thai Spaghetti w/ Bayleaf Stew
This was our Wild Card dish, since we wanted to try something authentic and unusual. It has a very distinct flavor that is probably an acquired taste. I would recommend this dish for adventurous foodies...
Though our initial sample of Bua Siam's cuisine was more than positive, I'm not giving it 5 stars because the food was too spicy for 3 out of our party of 6, and the restaurant forgot our order of Papaya Salad (though we weren't charged, and they apologized profusely over the phone).
SUMMARY:
I'm very excited about returning to Bua Siam, and am anticipating a positive update to this preliminary review!
Just keep in mind that these dishes are authentically spicy! If spice isn't a problem, this place is for you, especially if you're inclined to be adventurous (and for those who aren't, the chicken meat here is SAFE! :) -

Los Angeles, CA
Had to come back and write more. First off, I didn't think Bua could improve, but during these tough economic times, they have dropped the price of their lunch special to 4.95. $4.95!! I wish there was a way to caps-lock numbers. You simply can't beat that.
They also introduced discount cards that you get with your meal, offering money off your next visit.
AND THEN they just introduced a stamp-card... every time you spend over $10 you get a stamp, and then you start to get free stuff, like a free thai iced tea, etc.
All this alone would earn this restaurant praise anywhere else, but the food is really delicious, as others here have noted.
Lastly, you all have made me a celebrity there. They've got a "People Love Us On Yelp" stick on the front door, so one evening I told them that I was the Michael that wrote their first yelp review, and everyone came out of the kitchen to... well, look at me and smile. It was fun. I think it's a family that runs the place, and I've seen Dad buying fresh produce at El Super (which has great prices on produce, by the way) across the street before.
Can I say it any louder? I LOVE THIS RESTAURANT. Oh, and they've improved their delivery. We get that regularly too now. Got nothin' but love for this place.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I stopped coming here about a year ago because the server was extremely rude to us and made us wait for 10 minutes before he came over to give us our menu (it would be different had he been busy or had at least knowledge that we were there). Mind you there was one other table there beside us.
I'm totally disappointed, now I remember why I stopped coming to this place to begin with.
I ordered the grilled beef salad and I hated it, it was overly salty. And I never hate any Thai food I've ever eaten!!! I'm giving them one star because the the guy who helped with my to-go order was actually nice. -

I'm a huge fan of hainam chicken and my friend told me I ought to try the food here because it was better than Sanamluang But really... it sucks! I'll admit, I am basing this off of only2 dishes: Hainame Chicken and Garlic Beef. Both were super bland and the chicken was very dry. I don't know what kind of taste buds my friend has, but this place was horrible. I did like the fact that they deliver, but thats nothing if the food sucks.
I'm only getting Thai food from Sanamluang. Thanks -

Awesome, authentic Northern Thai food. Go to their website menu, it has stuff the take out menu does not, like Num Prik Ong (ground pork dip) which you eat with balls of sticky rice (insert testicle joke here), slices of cucumber and cabbage leaves. It's awesome in a way that only sweet, hot, sour and salty Thai food can be. The kind family that owns the place looked at me when I ordered this like one would look at horse with a cigarette. Cute but kind of dangerous. Good times. I also tried the Dynamite Wings which are both sweet and spicy, not to be confused with Aaron Spelling's Sweet and Spicy, two female cops, one's blonde and privileged, the other, latina and street smart. Together they're sexing up the mean streets of my fevered imagination.
But I digest. Now. Go. To Bua Siam. -

Let me begin by saying that I'm very particular with Asian food. That being said, Bua Siam is DELICIOUS...almost like home cooking! They have such a nice variety of dishes.
My favorites are the duck fried rice, Chinese broccoli w crispy pork, shrimp cakes and fried rice with sausage.
You must try it when you are craving for GOOD THAI food! Very reasonable prices too.

Bua Siam is a little shop that's ultra compact with a modern style design. Nothing out of the ordinary in Thai cuisine. It's kind of rare to order Thai food extra spicy or extremely hot and have it served as specified. Because it's almost never close too spicy. I ordered the Pa Nang and Pad See Ew, which are typical. The Pa Nang was exceptional by comparison, but had a tad too much coconut flavor to it.
I would have given them a "4 Star" rating, but their "Take Out" service was lethal. I waited over 40 minutes for take out. Honestly, for a 1st impression, I was highly disappointed. I expected more quality for the wait. -

Really adorable place to eat. Nice ambiance, good service, relatively fast.. but nothing really stood out. Except for the really small parking lot. And when I say small, I mean I have a very small car and trying to fit in those narrow parking spaces was a challenge. And they gave us our food but no extra dishes for us to put them on since we were obviously doing it family style. Aaaand the Tom Kah was really really spicy when we asked for a 5/10 spicy level, and the eggplant was not spicy when we asked for a 7/10. Hmm. It was good thai food but I probably wouldn't come back.

After being taken here for dinner by a friend who loves this place, came back with a group of girlfriends for lunch yesterday. We loved it...nearly had the place to ourselves, so the service issues others have mentioned never materialized. The papaya salad is as wonderful as advertised, and we all enjoyed the fried tofu and the simple Chinese broccoli with chilis. The price was beyond reasonable, and we will definitely be back. Skip dessert, though...

Awesome Thai Food. I try to get something different every time I go, and I've never been disappointed. It's a great place to be adventurous and order a few things you've never had before. They have a huge menu, I don't know how they have room in their kitchen for all those ingredients.
They recently re-did the interior with a new coat of paint so it's much nicer inside. The service is good and the food comes fast. Maybe too fast, if you've ordered soup to start, so maybe next time I'll ask them to hold off on the entrees till my date and I have finished enjoying their delicious Tom Kha soup. -

Toluca Terrace, CA
I'm a frequent customer here, most of the time I call for delivery. I've eaten here long enough that I've seen 3 different owners. I usually get the same things here. The place is quite small but comfortable enough. Parking is not a problem. I usually go with Boat noodles as Thai people call it, fried catfish with papaya salad, green curry with rice noodles known as kha nom jean khang kai and bbq pork with rice. The menu offers decent selections but what I like the most about this place is that they offer a lot of
thai dishes that you might not find at other thai restaurants in town. A lot of people knows pad thai and pad see ew as thai food, but there's so much more. I cant really comment on the service since I call in for delivery most of the time but delivery usually take about 45 mins or more. There's no reason for me not to come back to this place. It's a great place to go to once in awhile. -

I go here for lunch usually. I can get a great Lunch for under $6.00. I've tried other places in the area and have been disappointed. Love there pad see uw, yellow curry and pad thai.

Little Thai cafe in a quaint location. It's a small joint with great lunch prices. The Thai BBQ chicken is pretty good.

The decor of this place has dramatically changed since the last time I was here. Its now very cute and full of Ikea tables and decor. The service is fast and the food is pretty good. I always come here for the papaya salad with the fried catfish. I've had better papaya salad but the catfish is awesome. I've also had the chicken and rice which was not so good. The chicken seemed old and dry. The rice a bit overcooked. The pad kee mew was basically just pad see ew with some peppers in it, which is not the correct way to make it. Overall great papaya salad with catfish. Bad chicken and rice, and incorrect pad kee mew. Its not expensive, the decor is cute, and the food is good. The parking isn't bad also.
