A couple years ago, we found ourselves hungry and in downtown Brenham looking for a place to eat on a Sunday afternoon. This place seemed to be the only place open. What a great find! We ordered burgers and it was one of the best burgers I've had in years. Ever since then, we've been talking about going to BT's again, however, we live in Austin so the place is not exactly close to us.

Today, however, we found ourselves on a road trip to see the wildflowers in the Brenham area. There was no question where we would stop to eat lunch. Again, the burgers were amazing. I order the 'BT Ultimate Burger' and my partner ordered a 'Longhorn Burger'.  Both were delicious. Yum, yum!

Other plates of food that came out of the kitchen looked delicious. Two ladies sitting at the table next to us commented that their salads were quite tasty. They looked spectacular ... that is, the salads ... although the old ladies were quite lovely too.

I also like the energy of the place. Whoever is responsible for decorating the joint did a fantastic job. The place is called a saloon and that's exactly what it looks like. It features heavy wood chairs and tables with good Texas flair. It is very well appointed.

I saw other reviews complaining about the service ... but we've had good experiences, albeit we have only been there twice. I will agree with a couple other reviews that said that the draft beer was a bit flat. The Shiner I ordered was acceptable ... but nothing more.

This place will definitely get our business again, should we find ourselves back in Brenham. And, we may just take a road trip from Austin just for the burgers.

First, this place is way over priced.

    Second, the customer service sucks.

We came in right when they opened, and the waitress was already in a bad mood. She gave off a very cold vibe and seemed annoyed that we needed a few minutes to look at the menu.

We were the only people there for the majority of our meal so we didn't have to wait long for the food.  I thought the steak was a little undercooked but I rather it bleed than be burnt to a crisp.

We will probably not eat here again.  There are other restaurants in town where I don't feel like a burden on the staff.

This was one of the only places open in the town square after 7 oclock. Blah. The hostess was absent-minded, both of the draft beers that my girlfriend and I ordered were flat (Shiner Bock and Stella Artois). They graciously swapped us our glasses for a couple of bottles, but they acted as if it was a common complaint. The food was decent but sort of forgettable. The waiter kept telling me I couldn't finish a full rack of ribs, and that I would be the first customer in history to do so. I did finish them, without ceremony (they were kind of fatty and quite honestly not that much food). My girlfriend got grilled fish, rice, vegetables, typical fare.

    Ho hum

    Meh. I've experienced better.
For a greasy burger and a beer, Its a great place.  Fried pickles...... Need I say more, yes, delicious.  But that's the beauty of this place, bar food is good dinner food is poor.  If you are in the mood for drinks and food, sit at the bar, or it could take you 15 min to get a drink.  Speaking of sitting at the bar, the bartenders are super cool and talkative.  If you want to go where everybody knows your name, and there always glad you came, go to The Longhorn..... Just don't get the ribs ;)

Let me start by saying the Longhorn is in a cool location on the old town square, near lots of walkable shops, etc. It is a cool, old style saloon.
The service here was really BAD. The waiter was..just inept. Friendly, polite but lacking in common knowledge.  We had to ask for EVERYTHING....literaly. My filet mignon was lukewarm/cool...probaly due to the inattentive college student/waiter who just didn,t go back and check on the food.
Others at the table liked their catfish, tilapia, but the filet was extremely salty. Oh and the waiter "forgot" our Spinach and Artichoke dip after he told me, "yum, that is my favorite" when I ordered it.

If I ever return here, it will be because of 1) Lack of options, and 2) just to have a drink or maybe some bar food. I will not be bringing the family back here. It tries the patience of the most generous of patrons.
AND they sat us in the back room where the a/c was not even the best.
    Pitiful!

Enjoyed a nice dinner in this casual, interesting and hospitable bar and restaurant.  We ordered the chicken fried steak and it was cooked exactly how we like it - medium well with crisp breading and tasty gravy. Our salad and sides were fresh and flavorful.  We received prompt, attentive service throughout the meal.   The antique bar and back bar and much of the interior and exterior architecture spelled "historical" and after dinner we took a walk through the quiet, interesting streets of Historical Downtown Brenham.  Ample on street parking.  A great place for a dinner break if you are driving between Houston and Austin (or anyplace).
    No complaints.

I ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad, when it arrived I noticed the chicken was not steamy.  In fact is was lukewarm and tasted very dry from a probably a previous overcooking.  The salad was in huge chunks and had many old wilted pieces.  The chicken on the menu might not have said grilled, but serving it overcooked and dry was kinda not appetizing.

My husband ordered a Dirty Martini.  It was watered down, not from to much dirty, but it really tasted like dishwater was in the drink.  It was hard pressed to taste any alcohol and even the olive juice.  This is a strong drink that is mostly alcohol in the drink.

The only reason this place is getting 2 stars was that the place was very clean and the staff was very pleasant and efficient.

I would suggest just ordering the usual things such as burgers/steaks and not out of the ordinary drinks and you should get good food at this establishment.

Traveling through town and it was the only downtown restaurant open on sunday.  Pleasantly surprised.   Flatiron steak tasty and cooked perfEctly.  Tilapia was also good and cooked right on the money.   Italian chocolate cake was good. The only negative was the undercooked dirty rice.   Our server was very nice too

After a failed attempt to dine at Must Be Heaven (the sandwich line was absolutely insane!) we headed over to our backup restaurant - BT Longhorn Saloon & Steakhouse.  I'd read a little about BT online; the food was supposed to be good, and the service was reportedly spotty.  All in all BT was exactly what I was expecting.

The restaurant itself is pretty cool.  The room off the entry is dominated by an awesome bar with a few high tables and chairs.  This would be a great place to hang out and have a beer or watch a game.  The back room contains a variety of tables and chairs, all very rustic and many looked antique.  There are also beautiful western paintings hanging on the walls, and a few token animal heads.

We were a party of six and we were seated at a great big table in a private corner of the back room.  The only bummer about the table is that it was bordered by windows, which is normally a good thing, but in this case I think it's what made our little area so warm.  There was a ceiling fan above us, but the waitress didn't know how to turn it on and didn't care to figure it out.

The restaurant had a decent crowd on this particular Saturday afternoon, but nothing too crazy.  The menu is mostly grilled items; steaks, chicken, seafood, etc. and seemed a little pricey, but there is also a nice selection of burgers and sandwiches at decent prices - around $8.  Between the six of us we ordered four sandwiches, two burgers and two pulled pork sandwiches.  The real problems started after we ordered.  We probably waited about 45 minutes for our food.  I was darn near ready to eat the table by the time our food came out.  It was really ridiculous.  Our waitress also got huffy with my dad when he asked for napkins and silverware.  Not cool.

The food was definitely tasty though, and that's mainly why this review gets 3 stars.  My mom and I shared the BT Burger - a half pound patty dressed with BBQ sauce, grilled onions, melted cheese, and fried jalapeno chips.  Honestly, it was one of the best burgers I've ever had...I think.  I may have just been starving because the food took so long to come out, but it was really amazing.  All of the burgers and sandwiches were served with fries or onion rings and my mom and I ordered a combo of both.  The fries were lightly dusted with Cajun spices and super tasty, and the onion rings were lightly battered and perfectly crisp.  Drool...  Everyone scarfed up their meals, and even though the wait was eternal we were all satisfied customers.

I'll probably go back for the BT burger one day.  But I'll make sure and go when I'm not totally starving because the wait was brutal to my starving tummy.  The bar area off the main entrance of the restaurant is also awesome, and I'd like to hang out there some time for a drink or two

I was on my way back to Austin from a political event in Houston with a couple of coworkers when we used Yelp to find this place. Gold mine.
The food was great, the beer was cold, the TVs nice and clear (the Super Bowl was on), and the decor very old-school Texas.
I would definitely return to the BT Longhorn: my BT Burger was great & my friends' steaks were tender. One of them almost passed out from joy over the quality of the wedge salad (he gets a little excited about a good wedge). Put this on your list of great places and return frequently.

Nice place. Conveniently located downtown. I wanted to go to Inn at Dos Brisas but they were having a private party and were closed for lunch. Bummer!

This was a pretty nice substitute. It has cool, old style saloon decor. The menu is diverse. I don't know if that is a good thing. You know how a place that has great burgers may not necessarily have a great anything else? That may be the case here but, then again, it may not.

I had the Bleu's burger (bleu cheese, applewood bacon and sauteed onions) and it was excellent. My wife had the ultimate BT burger (bbq sauce, jalapenos and extra cheddar cheese) and she loved it. My daughter had a chicken sandwich on ciabatta bread and she woofed it down. Onion rings were okay. Fries were okay.

Service was fine. Our server was a little unsure of things but he was accommodating. I completely understand average service in a small town.

Cheesecake was good. We asked what flavor ice cream they had and our waiter goes "Everybody asks that...we don't serve ice cream". No ice cream at a restaurant in Brenham, Texas - home of Blue Bell ice cream??? Can you say DUH!

This is a good place in a small town (at least for the burgers). Smiley face

Stopped in on way to Austin from Houston for a quick dinner and left very satisified.

I had the BT Burger and my wife had the Southwest.  Both were good but the BT was better - had a sweet bun reminiscent of Alamo Springs Cafe (top 3 burger in TX per Texas Monthly), but not as messy.  The roasted peppers on the Southwest and the fried jalapenos on the BT provided just enough tang w/out being overpowering.  The onion rings were very good as well; better than the fries.  They weren't very busy when we came in so our service was quick and very attentive/accommodating.

A huge plus (for me) was the fact that they had 4 large flat screens so I could watch all 3 of the late NFL games (including Vince Young's awesome comeback against the Cardinals).  This aspect put the place over the 4-star threshold (for $8-9 I'd like a slightly larger burger and/or more onion rings but that's nit-picking).  Also, the chipotle mayo on the Southwest didn't do it for me, but that's a minor quibble, and next time we'll probably try the Bleu cheese along w/ another BT.

BT's has a very good bar and bar service. I've had lunch and dinner here and find the food to be good for the price. I'm not a big fan of the dining room decor. It's a little too basic and maybe I should have expected that. It's a saloon after all. BT's isn't my first choice, but is a good option when you're looking for a satisfying meal and adult beverage.

We were driving down 290, popping into antique stores on a lazy Sunday afternoon. We stumbled upon this restaurant.

Excellent service & yummy, fresh food. Best fried shrimp I've had in years! I highly recommend it.

The burgers were good, that's for sure.  Hubby and I had the Longhorn and the Bleu and both were yummy and cooked correctly.  The buns are, as previously said, GREAT!

However, in previous reviews, it was said that the restaurant is 'good for kids'.  Not so much.  Kid's meals are expensive and too much food.  It's a little more upscale than kid-friendly.

So, if you love a good burger, it's a great spot to stop, but if you've got the kids in tow, (especially young ones), this may not be the place for you.

Really nice find while we were tooling around the countryside looking at wildflowers.  Nice old building, lots of stone and wood, apparently was once a hotel, along with several other uses over the years.  Got big salads, mom got jambalaya, which I think was a special...  She was really pleased with her dish, and the hubby and I both got enormous, tasty salads.  It was a nice, cool, inviting place after a hot day outside.  Good food, friendly service, recommend to anyone who finds themselves near Brenham.
