One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
I am an absolute sideshow when it comes to hotel cleanliness. I do not usually enjoy staying in hotels because they freak me out. (Damn 20/20, 60 minutes exposes ruin everything) I did not feel like this at all at the Bryant Park. This was, by far, the cleanest hotel I have stayed at. The decor was very cool, modern, chic and simple. (to me, simplicity= less things to get dusty, so woo-hoo!)The outside of the hotel is majestic and lovely. The inside is decorated in red and black, there was also a stunning flower arrangement in the lobby. The staff was wonderful, doormen, bellhop and front desk staff were all upbeat, personable and right on point. For a trendy place, there was absolutely no pretentious bullshit. We arrived 2 hours before check in. We popped in and asked if we could check in early and they stated they were planning on putting us on the 9th floor but we could check in early if we didn't mind the 6th floor. We did not mind at all. They then proceeded to upgrade our room, for free. The location of the hotel is awesome; you are only a few blocks away from Times Square, the subway, the Theater District, 5th avenue and lots of shopping.
The room was immaculate. You could have eaten off the floor. There was a large bed with stark white linens covering it. None of that swirly floral bedspread crap that you get at most hotels which is designed to cover up god knows what. The bed was very comfortable, the pillows were heavenly. There is an area set up in the room where you can set up your laptop. It has a comfy little seating area and a workspace. There is also a fax in the closet should you need it. There are flat screen TVs in every room, Bose radios with complimentary CDs to check out, Klipsch speakers. There is also a well stocked mini bar with premium liquors, interesting snacks like gourmet chocolates and nuts. The bathroom was huge, and absolutely spotless. It had a separate soaking tub and large shower.
There is a Koi restaurant in the hotel which does room service until all hours. There is also a Cellar bar. The fitness center is open 24 hours, not that my fat ass set foot in there, but it was good to know. I was very impressed with this hotel. They did not leave out a single detail. Seriously, there is an umbrella in the closet if you need it, and a white noise machine by the bed if you want to use it... A heads up, they do housekeeping services twice a day, the second time between 5:30 and 10, so if you don't want it, make sure you hit the privacy button next to the bed.
Also, another tip, I booked the Hotel on Expedia and got a great deal. Yahoo travel and a few other sites had "deals" for more than it would have cost for booking it directly through the hotel! Yahoo was $100 more!
I would, without a doubt stay here again.
Although the red elevators are a bit creepy, i have to say the rooms are very clean & neat. Furniture wise, nothing really fancy just a couple pieces of very nice furniture. As for the bed, having a comfy bed is so important especially on long trips, this place definitely makes sure their guests get good ZzzzZ's. And it's right across from the park! the location is perfect for people to who want to be in the middle of it all w/out having to deal w/ the crowds of Times Square.
Cellar Bar is the bar in the hotel, and quite a treat. Although in the basement of the hotel, it still feels very welcoming and warm. Hotel guests get complimentary drinks from 5-7pm Monday - Friday (I think those are correct times?)
Would I come back? In a heartbeat! :)
The Bryant Park hotel wont blow everyone away, but if you're into fashion, or just like the feel of fashion, its a great choice. It definitely has its own feel from the minute you walk in the doors of the beautiful building, through their red lobby and even walking around their uniquely lit hallways.
The rooms have a kind of european feel. They feel sparse, i guess, but you're not missing anything. Its just kind of open and light and minamalist. The rooms are very cool-ly lit, with lots of dimmers and lightswitches for moods, an ipod dock, a great flat screen tv, and a kick ass minibar (AND a kick ass honor bar full of decadent bath products). The bathroom is roomy and luxurious too.
Locationwise, if you're into fashion, you cant really beat it. (or even if you're not) You're right across from Bryant Park, and a short walk to Times Square, PennStation, Grand Central, so you can get virtually anywhere in the city without trouble, and you're a short walk to the ICP, great shopping, and a great magazine store.
Skip the breakfast in the hotel restaurant unless money is no object. Its decent but very pricey. $30 for eggs and bacon and toast, with another 7 for a glass of OJ is just too much.
The Bryant Park Hotel is my current favorite hotel in NYC. I've stayed at way too many of the cute little boutique and trendy hotels around the city, and have enjoyed the BPH the most so far ..
When we checked in we were lucky to be bumped up to a mini-suite (it was my birthday! woohoo) and the suite was very nice - a view 20+ floors up of Byrant Park to one side, and the empire state building on the other side. The room was big - one of the largest I have had in NYC at a "reasonable" price .. the bathtub was also HUGE. Shortly after we settled in they stopped by with a snack, and then a little later some chocolates.
Bryant Park is a decent location if you have business or plans midtown, and its not too far from downtown or uptown. a nice central location.
Part of the good deal we got here is the free valet parking - we checked in friday afternoon and stayed til late saturday and parking was free - this could have set us back 40-80$ elsewhere .. not bad.
The staff at BPH was all very nice and friendly, the hotel was clean and quiet for being in the middle of Manhattan.
The only things i didnt like - the bathtub only had hot water - and it was scalding .. had to run the handheld shower into the tub to cool it down... and we asked for a late check out and that was no problem, but when we returned from brunch we were locked out of our room :( we weren't told the doors all lock at 12.. also, having to pay $10 for wifi feels like 1995.. how do NYC hotels still get away with this?? these minor things aside, BPH is #1 on my list for NYC lodging..
Though I have not had the pleasure of staying here, I have had a chance to host a fashion presentation here during the most recent Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. I must say the staff is amazing! Chris Cestari, The Director of Sales, bends over backwards to ensure that his clients are happy. We definitely appreciated that. He is meticulous and very detailed oriented. He also never forgets a name and face. He remember all kinds of details about my client including that she had a son and made a little gift for him to take home (how sweet is that?!). I definitely will do more events (and make sure I spend at least one night) with at the Bryant Park Hotel.
I stayed here on business and have to say I loved this hotel and would stay here again on my next trip. All the details are clean/modern but warm and earthy, not too cold. The room was big compared to other rooms I've had in NY. The bathroom was nice/clean and to my delight they had Molten Brown travel toiletries - my favorite! We had a party in the cellar bar at night too and that was a great space and good cocktails. All in all great place and fairly reasonable - highly recommended.
Dig it.
Location: OK, midtown-ish, right across from subway stop, near Times Square (not that you want to hang out there, but it is central). Nice that Bryant Park is across the street, so you don't walk out into a dark shadowed street and actually have some green space. And the Cellar Bar downstairs is pretty cool. They had a 5-6pm free cocktails deal M-F for hotel guests - nice!
Room/Facilities: we asked for an upgrade and got one - not to a suite, but to a larger room with a King. It was surprisingly spacious, corner room with decent closets, a sitting area, and good-sized bathroom. These are Manhattan standards of course, but it was fine. Decor is sparse, and I hate those giant decorative vinyl pillows, but the bed and sheets were comfy. One issue - the hot water took forever to get going in the morning.
Service: Totally upbeat and cordial and helpful. They got us a room reasonably quickly after a red-eye flight (we had to wait until about 9am, but normally check-in is later) and were always helpful at the front desk.
Overall, a good place. I'd go back, especially if room rates stay low.
The good: Great location.
The bad: Small room and layout not well handled.
In short: Got totally shafted in the room dept. when I had to visit NYC for work. My co-workers and I were down for the same room category but they each had much more space for the same category/price.
For the money, go to the London NYC to get more room.
This is a good location if you need to be in Midtown, but perhaps also want to go to the Village or downtown. On 40th you can avoid the heavy traffic you hit a few blocks up. It is also a good location it you want to visit Times Square - as it is near the sites but not as congested as the hotels that surround the square. The hotel tries a little too hard to be hip - sort of Ian Schrager circa 2002. Lots of red and black that seems a little dated now. The rooms are simple and clean - all white - very nice bathrooms, comfy beds, flat screen television. The concierge was very mediocre - didn't return my call and then disappeared. There is a free happy hour for guests in the very hip bar. I prefer The Tuscany W, or if I am staying higher The London, but this is a good choice if the location suits you.
Pros:
Softest Bed and Sheets OF MY LIFE! (I wish I wrote down model numbers and brands)
Chic modern look
No really, its very trendy
Super nice rooms
Cons:
Bryant Park? Where the hell is that? Its far from everywhere you'd want to go.
Glitzy, Ritzy, fashionista hangout, The Bryant Park is a trip (what's with the blood red elevator lighting?!?). I fell happily asleep, only to be woken at 8am by Christina Aguilera singing outside my window (for some morning TV show).
Nice big bathrooms though.
It does feel rather glamorous to have to fight off the paparazzi as you make your way out of the hotel though....I think they mistook me for Brad Pitt's little brother.
Having worked with several luxury hotels, I am a hotel snob. We had a great stay at the Bryant Park Hotel. Location is perfect and the rooms are clean, modern and luxurious.
Upon arrival, we were taken to our room, where all of the hotel and room amenities were explained to us. I especially liked the privacy button next to the bed that turns on a red light outside the door. There were two closets, a large flat screen television, Bose radio system and internet access (with a charge). The hotel was very accommodating. We needed extra towels, and they gave us six!
My favorite part of the room was the bathroom! It was GINORMOUS. We had a separate shower and a huge bathtub perfect for two. Hotel puts different Molton Brown bath products so you can test their various lines.
The staff was friendly and very welcoming. I highly recommend this property to business and leisure travelers!
The highlights of our room were the large well equipped bathroom and a large balcony with a great view! The BOSE wave radio and wide screen TV made spending time in the room enjoyable. Overall the decor, housekeeping, front desk, and bell staff added to a very positive experience!
All deluxe view rooms and Junior Suites are both nicely sized and provide views of Bryant Park. On site Dining is KOI Restaurant, featuring Japanese inspired cuisine with California accents. The Cellar Bar is the 3,000 square foot cavernous lounge for nightlife. In room private dining is available 24 hours-a-day. Bryant Park is adjacent to the hotel and Central Park is about 1 mile away. The hotel is around the corner from 5Th Avenue shopping! The Theater District and Times Square are just a few blocks away!
The lobby of the Bryant Park Hotel is decorated with red leather-upholstered walls, lots of black, simple lines...while the very clean room we stayed in was almost entirely in white and beige with strips of lighting in the walls and a large bathroom entirely lined in peachy marble. The bed was more comfortable than the Waldorf-Astoria's. And ladies, listen up, the amenities are cool Molton Brown products. You can even purchase full-sized items off a shelf in the bathroom.
There was a line out the door every night for the popular Cellar Bar. If you're staying in the hotel, you just flash your room key to the bouncer and he lets you right in. So, if you're just dying to hang out at the Cellar Bar...get a room!
We did eat at Koi our first night there, since we arrived from JFK at around 10:00 pm. It was convenient to have a good restaurant in the hotel for dinner.
We found a reasonable deal on http://Expedia.com and the cost to stay here was no more than the cost to stay at any other great hotel in NYC. It is located right across the street from the beautiful New York Public Library and Bryant Park, where you can get excellent breakfast and lunch items from the three 'wichcraft stands, and there is a Pax Wholesome Foods down the street on the corner -- as well as a subway station. Times Square / Theatre District and Grand Central Station are also within easy walking distance from the hotel. Highly recommended!
I stayed there this past weekend for my birthday. We had a double room on the 7th floor. The hotel has a relaxed jazzy hip vibe to it. From the red light, red-padded elevators (very sassy) to the dimly lit sheik rooms. I didn't get a chance to go to the Cellar Bar but I hear it's incredible. The service was friendly and humble, considering the atmosphere of the place. The 5 stars really belong to the concierge who saved my weekend, by booking dinner reservations for a party of 15 t with 10 minutes notice!
I've stayed here three times now, and each time enjoyed it. I loved the location, but if visiting NYC I'd recommend you always check your hotel location relative to the places you want to visit.
The lobby is decorated really trendy, I liked it but my husband thought it was a little over the top. He joked the padding on the walls was to protect people who walked into them by mistake due to the nightclub like lighting. The techno music 24/7 is a bit much too.
The rooms are immaculate, and really nice. I've always been happy with my rooms, and one time one of my coworkers didn't like hers and had them move her, no problem. The bathrooms are awesome, a HUGE soaking tub and separate shower. I like the noise machines, it helps if you are on a lower floor to drown out the street traffic noise.
Room service from the KOI is really good, I recommend the sushi, and stay away from the White Castle burgers late at night! Also, if you need an iron and board you have to ask for it but they bring it right up for you.
I was immediately somewhat disappointed with the Bryant Park hotel. The lobby was not very fabulous and the doorman and bellhops not as attentive as Id like. (although I later found out my boyfriend had excused the bellhop from taking our bags to our room, but that doesn't make up for the majority of times an employee was standing at the door and made no effort to open the door for me). We went to our room - which was a Bryant Park Suite - and I was again somewhat disappointed, but the place did grow on me the longer we stayed. It just did not seem as sumptuous and well-appointed as I was hoping for, or in comparison to other NYC hotels I have stayed at. The view we had from our multitude of windows was excellent though. Especially at night, you could see Times Square lighting up the sky just a couple blocks away. The bathroom was my favorite part. It was HUGE. HUGE bath, large separate shower, mirrors everywhere, and I thought the very square sink was a really cool design. The Bose speakers and iPod hook-up through-out the suite was pretty nice and handy too.
I really liked Bryant Park itself. It was a very cute park. And it looked like they were beginning to prepare for the upcoming fashion week. The hotel though, I was very surprised its the hub for fashion week. It just did not seem outstandingly chic enough to me at all, especially after all I had heard about it.
There was really nothing terribly wrong with the hotel, but I personally have no interest in staying there again. I don't love staying in Midtown for one thing so I suppose in that respect I'm biased, and I've preferred my prior stays in hotels Downtown.
I would however, definitely recommend it for others wanting to stay in a convenient Midtown location and who are looking for a somewhat chic environment.
OMG, I looooove this place. Housed inside a beautiful Gothic Art Deco building is one of the trendiest hotels in NY. My stay here overlapped with part of fashion week and the staff did not miss a beat. Not a thing is overlooked at the Bryant Park Hotel. Take a ride in their orgasmatrons...errr, their elevators, open up the door to your suite, and the world is your oyster. You have got to experience this place. Bravo!
Trendy, modern, simple, and elegant
Wonderful hotel--this is the first time that I have been satisfied with my experience at a hotel in NYC. Chic design, with a great restaurant (Koi) embedded in the hotel, a sweet bar in basemement (cellar bar) and SPACIOUS rooms!!! The staff even deigned to smile, once in a while. The subtle nuances to the design of the room and the amenities were perfect. Stay here (of course, you may need a decent budget or wallet to afford it).
super small rooms - typical boutique hotel
A fine balance of minimalistic simplicity and decadence! I know, it's a bit of an oxymoron but when you're faced with the cool and hip Bryant Park Hotel, that's the description that comes to me. I've been to the Cellar Bar and Koi before so it was exciting to have a mini-getway at BPH. We were upgraded to a junior suite with a view of the park upon checking in, which was great! Our spacious room was sparsely but elegantly furnished with an ambiance sound machine, iPod docking station (which does not charge your iPod), Bose stereo, privacy button (no signs to hang on the door knob!) and the luxurious Molton Brown products! Oh and they also offer Pleasure Chest "toys" that you can order and discreetly delivered to your room! So fun! We loved that our ice bucket was already filled with ice in our room when we arrived, the turn down service, fluffy towels and of course, the impeccable service! The concierge was helpful, front desk staff super friendly and just about everyone was professional. On Saturday night, we were practically ushered into the Cellar Bar when we told them we were guests of the hotel. What I didn't appreciate was the the shower door that had a half an inch gap, which flooded the bathroom floor everytime we showered. The bed was not the comfiest and the walls were really thin. Also, the closet in our room was pretty small and had just a few hangers. But overall, I give it 4 stars because it was a great experience staying at the ultra sexy Bryant Park Hotel.
