    SOME RAMBLING:

    So...I've been a lazy B.
I joined yelp back in October of 2010 telling myself to contribute to a site that I use too often to leave hanging. I wrote it down on my to-do list and everything (swear), but it never came to fruition...

until now...a year err two later.

It was a handful of overwhelmingly positive experiences that finally gave me the last shove, so here I am, ready.

As one might have guessed, my visit to Dr. Kim was one of these 'positive' experiences.

    A LITTLE BACKGROUND/RAMBLING:

I was really hesitant to go here or any dentist to be frank and not because I have a fear of the dentist. In fact, I'm going to toot my own horn here and say I have a pretty good set of chompers. Don't believe me? My sister's a 4th year dental student at USC and she begrudgingly admits so. The best part is I've never had braces.

Anyway, there are a bunch of bad dentists out there (dentists, restaurants, doctors, etc) and my sister has made me even more paranoid about it. She's quite passionate about quality work and is horrified of the shoddy/botched jobs on some of her patients.

The reason I came to Dr. Bryan Kim was to get a second look at a supposed cavity I had. When I was living abroad, I went in for a check-up and was told I had a cavity and I'd need a gold filling (about $600usd)---I then proceeded to have a complete melt down (I DONT WANT TO BE A PIRATE). Anyway, luckily my big sister was visiting me and had accompanied me to the dentist. They had taken a panorama x-ray and in my particular case wouldn't prove that I had a cavity. My sister adamantly demanded a bite wing (or something) and they said it wasn't needed--which it was. We walked out with my sister promising me that she'd personally take care of me once I was back in the states.

She never did. God love her, she's been super busy with 'real' patients and was very willing to pencil me in. However, I'm a pretty simple drill/fill case and would hate for her to waste her clinic time with me when she has bigger cases. Therefore, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I came to yelp and found Dr. Kim. I was still paranoid--even with all the good reviews, because let's face it...some of you would give 5 stars to your local McDonald's.

    THE ACTUAL REVIEW (FINALLY):

I called the day before and was able to come in the following day. I showed up on time with my big sis in tow--ready to keep any shady dentist honest.

Parking wasn't a problem. We parked in the little plaza next door, although I think there is a specific lot. His office is on the 3rd floor of the New Star building at the end of the hall.

If you're looking for a fancy shcmancy office, this isn't for you. The office was clean, bright, cozy, and def. Korean.

English is spoken, so not a problem. The wait was minimal and when I was called they let my sister follow me in to my chair.

When we met Dr. Kim. I was surprised by his warmth. When I read Christian dentist and saw his books, I admit I half expected a preachy dude with a fake smile--bad past experiences, maybe. That simply wasn't the case. He was genuine, kind and completely honest. Before I said anything about my sister being a dental student, he told me that full x-rays weren't necessary.

I introduced him to my sister and he was delighted to see another future dentist. He was joking with her and asking questions about her career goals, etc. We explained the situation to him about my 'cavity.' He then took the appropriate x-ray (BITE WING) and him and my sister both examined it. Afterwards he flat out told me there was no cavity. I had just saved $600 dollars!!! Dr. Kim then turned to my sister and told him how honesty in dental care was so important and that when her time came, to practice it---in a totally non preachy way, btw.

After that was settled, I asked him whether I needed a mouth guard. I've been told by other dentists that I had flat teeth and being a mild hypochondriac I believed them...even when my sister had told me that I didn't, but who wants to listen to their big sister who rather you not spend money?

Anyway, he told me no and that I wasn't a grinder. He then explained what teeth looked like when they were being grinded. My teeth were in great condition and nothing was wrong and that was the end of that.

On our way out he was kind of enough to take my sister's e-mail address and offer to help her network. My reward was my fave kind of floss (glide, baby)!

    THE BOTTOM LINE:

Dr. Kim is a caring, personable and funny healthcare professional who honestly wants to give his patients the best possible experience. This is reflected not only in his attitude, but also his prices. $40 for a check-up! He didn't charge me for my x-ray either! What's also great is that he doesn't try to take advantage of you by recommending unnecessary treatment. I really do believe that he's the best dentist I've ever been to.

    PS-Cash payment is preferred!

    i love this dentist!

i needed a checkup since it's been a few years (i know i'm a terrible person. i hate...HATTTEE going to the dentist and will put it off for years..the longest being a 12 year stretch where i surprisingly didn't get a cavity).

saturday hours... i love them. also, free parking attached...rare in la. love it.

i walked in, had a checkup within 20 minutes of arrival and was on my happy way to clean teeth ville. no cavities again but i do have some fillings for worn enamel. all in all a good day.

he's very thorough and will explain everything to you repeatedly just to make sure you get it. which i appreciate because i'm on fear mode when i'm at the dentist. i don't hear anything except the drills. everyone in this office is super friendly. and this place is PACKED!

also i had no clue but this place is cash or check only.

Dr. Kim is a wonderful dentist. I love that he has Saturday hours - no need to take a day off work just to get a teeth cleaning! You can usually call the day before and still get the appointment time you want. The only thing to watch for is that Dr. Kim occasionally leaves the country to go on mission.

The staff is very kind and professional. No one tries to sell you on procedures you don't need. The other reviewers say that his prices are fair; I wouldn't know, because so far my insurance has covered everything - I haven't paid a cent!  Dr. Kim always explains in detail each procedure before he begins. One time I was in with a nurse to get a quick set of x-rays for my insurance company (they try to avoid popping out the x-ray machine unless they absolutely must - another plus), and Dr. Kim stopped by to ask how I was healing from a previous treatment and gave an on-the-spot follow-up examination!

Truly the best dentist in Koreatown, if not all Los Angeles!

Found him through Yelp and am happy to continue his his 5 star rating!

Nice friendly staff, great procedures......excellent cleaners and top notch check up from the Dentist.

Can't say there was a bad thing about my families visit! Staff helped with our crying year old baby and really made us feel comfortable.

Clean, quiet (apart from my baby girl!) and relaxed office.

We will go there from now on.

Dr. Kim and staff are great! I got some enamel fillings and cavity fillings as well as a cleaning and everything was SO painless. It was incredible. I told Dr. Kim and his assistants that I was nervous so they took extra care of me. In the end, the total cost for 2 fillings, 3 enamel fillings and cleaning was only $50. I have Aetna PPO, but still really decently priced. My boyfriend got an extraction and cavity filling and only paid $40!

Everyone speaks English, although I liked hearing the Korean (kinda felt like my mom was fixin' me up).

They only take cash and check, so make sure you come in prepared.

Everyone is really nice, very professional, and VERY gentle! I found my new dentist!

What an amazing dentist. As a person and as a professional, Dr. Kim is someone that you can definitely rely on. He thoroughly explained the procedures and assured me of what type of treatment and outcome I can expect and what I would need to to in the long run. By letting me know the specific budget I would need, in addition to what service I'd be receiving, it shows that (1) Dr. Kim knows what he's doing, and (2) he offers competitive pricing and isn't worried about giving an honest opinion. His Christian background is also apparent when it comes to integrity and "grace" in terms of cost. He is also passionate about his work and travels abroad to provide dental services in third world country--that should explain something about his character.

Awesome location. Free indoor basement parking, and never had an issue finding a spot. I live in L.A and it's always a pleasure going anywhere where they have free parking.

Friendly atmosphere, and a pleasant visit every time. The only issue I personally have with Dr. Kim's office is that it closes early. For those who work full-time, expect Saturday to be the only option for a visit.

I love Dr.Kim. He's honest about costs and what you can have done versus what you should have done. I seriously hated going to the dentist since I was a kid, but after I went to dr. Kim I'm not sure if all those horrible memories were dreams or if he's just that good. he also does missionary work and helps third world countries with dental issues. He has a nice picture in his office where he's on a mission.

    Free parking with validation.

Easy to make appointments. I usually call the day before I want to come in and always get the time slot I want.

Front staff is super nice. Nancy seems to be the one who deals with English speaking patients. She's super and helps you understand insurance mumbo jumbo.

The office itself isn't fancy with fancy views, but has a welcoming atmosphere to it. Old school tools and drills used.

The procedures are fine the techs are gentle with the cleanings and I had a wisdom tooth pulled out. It was painless.

The cons: some dental offices I've been to have a numbing gel for the gums before the lidocaine shots are given, but dr. Kim doesn't use it. He also doesn't use the mouth guards to keep your mouth open so for long procedures your jaw will really start to cramp up. But instead of paying thousands of dollars for those "service" items I would choose this place over them any dAy. Also this place only takes ppo. I have ppo so I'm not sure of cash prices, but I hear they are fairly reasonable for out of pocket costs.

Dr. Kim is absolutely wonderful. He is so gentle and nice that he made me forget all about my fear of going to dentists. The staff is also accommodating and you get a sense that they genuinely respect Dr. Kim and know exactly what they are doing.

Dr. Kim genuinely cares about his patients and only suggests what is absolutely necessary. Prices are extremely fair and I really appreciate that when I visit Dr. Kim, I am not shoved suggestions for x-rays and cosmetic dental work here.

If you're in the market for a dentist, look no further and go to Dr. Kim. He is the best.

Dr. Bryan is a great dentist. Yeah, it's a bit funny to go to a Korean-run dentistry, but it reminds me of Tokyo in a good way. Everyone is very professional. I love, love, love that Bryan is a dentist that doesn't immediately run for the Xray machine, instead he does a fully manual inspection, and that's a GREAT thing. It's nearly impossible to find a dentist that still does that! I don't want X-rays, i only want them when I need them.

I've been to him twice, and he's been really great both times. I don't have insurance, the first check up I paid $50, the second follow-up I paid $20.

Thanks to Yelp, I found another great dentist in Koreatown! I do have a regular dentist that I go to, but since the prices are too expensive.. I decided to check out another dentist. (I think it's safe for customers to know a couple good doctors and dentists since everyone has their own style and preference. Plus, it's always good to get a second opinion!)

I found Dr. Kim through Yelp (thanks for all the thorough reviews). All the reviews are true. Dr. Kim was nice and took the time to explain what kind of dental treatment I needed. Staff was friendly too. Looking forward to seeing him in another 6 months!

    Prices are fair and reasonable.

Small parking structure can be found on New Hampshire. It's free with validation.

UH-MAZING!!! is one word to describe this dental office. Took my 5 yr old son in for his first dental checkup (with Dr. Kim). After one of Dr Kim's assistans spoke with my son, he was completely relaxed. My son has Dentical, (it's not easy finding a good dentist that accepts it) and Dr Kim will have to clean up after the last horrible dentist my son had. Everyone is very friendly, and they've completely made my day... My son was VERY happy.    :)

    Aaaaahhhh~!! Oooooowwww~!! Boooo Hoooo~!!

You won't be hearing any of that at this dentist's office. I've been going to him since I was 6 years old. Dr. Kim is a friend of my dad's since they were in elementary school. (And no, I'm not giving him a good review just for that reason. He really is a great dentist). He's the best dentist I know. He has a huge number of clientele because he's been in the game for a long time, and he's reasonably priced and excellent at what he does. I've sent a few of my friends to him and they're all his regular clients now. Last year, I had all of my wisdom teeth pulled out and honestly it wasn't fun, but I recovered quickly because of Dr. Kim's TLC. If you are looking for a good dentist, try him out. He has clients of all ages. He's gentle so it won't be an aaaahhhh, oooooowwww experience. Promise.

Rarely do you meet someone who makes you think: this is really how life can be lived. Dr Bryan Kim is one of those people.

Dr Kim is the sweetest, kindest dentist I've ever met. Visiting his offices is a blast. I spent most of my time with him giggling. His jovial good humor is infectious, and you leave feeling like you've gotten a big hug from your favorite uncle.

He's a super-special guy. You know this as soon as you meet him. . . actually, you know this even before, when you start meeting his excellent team.

As a dentist, he's very very gentle. He doesn't try to sell you on procedures you don't need. He saved me from having a root canal by using a temporary filling for a week as a diagnostic. If I felt pain, then I needed a root canal. If not, then I was good to go for a permanent filling. Other dentists I've had would have sold me a root canal right away.

He donates his time to underserved communities overseas. He talked about his work with the Masai. I want to go back just to hear more stories. He's a brilliant storyteller.

His prices are extremely affordable. I don't know how he manages to keep such an immaculate office, devoted staff and excellent equipment with such low prices. I would love to have him as an advisor for my own business.

For the brief time that it was my privilege to spend with the good Doctor, I found everything about him to be inspiring, and I left feeling great.

You are not going to get ANY better than Dr. Kim. First of all, I've been going to him since I was five (I'm 26 now), which speaks volumes, I think. Take it from a girl who has a MAJOR sweet tooth, so obviously I frequent the dentist's office. Anyways, you will not find a nicer, more fair, and hardworking man than Dr. Kim. When you meet him, it is so obvious that not only is he good at what he does, he enjoys doing it. He genuinely cares about his patent's well being. His prices are always fair, and he ALWAYS explains what he is doing, which is helpful. They preapprove everything through your insurance you so you DON'T end up footing a major bill you were unaware of. Overall, his business ethics are top notch. These days, the aforementioned qualities are hard to find in a dentist!!

His assistants are amazing too!! They are not only friendly but very diligent and experienced. His office is warm and calming. Definitely nothing like those Bev Hills offices that charge an arm and a leg. All in all, I LOVE DR. KIM and I'm confident you will too.

The Cliff's note version? - he is fairly priced and does great work.  Trust me, I know, I've been going to him for 21 years now...

So I went to Dr. Kim based off of the good Yelp reviews.  I usually use Yelp for restaurants, but choosing a place to get your teeth worked on is a big decision, and I didn't know who else to look to but Yelp!

I must say, the reviews are true.  Dr. Kim was really awesome.

The staff was super helpful, friendly, and efficient.  The waiting room had a nice view and decor, and relaxing atmosphere.  The whole thing was done in no time, and with no pain or tension.

Dr. Kim explained what he was doing as he was doing it, which calmed my nerves.  They play calm and relaxing music, and put a towel over your eyes to protect you from the bright exam lights.  So nice!!

I was referred here and I love this dentist.  The staff is very organized, friendly, and efficient.  I recommend this dental office to anyone who's sick of getting ripped off from other dentists.   His pricing is very reasonable, unlike other places that mess up on your teeth and you end up having to pay more to fix it when the dentist just didn't do it right the 1st time.  The dental office is located on the 3rd floor of the New Star building.  On your 1st visit, he checks out all the problems that need to be fixed and gives you an overview.I recommended this dentist to all my friends too because I was very impressed and feel comfortable that my teeth are in good hands.

Dr. Kim kicks a@@!! I recently had a bit of a toothache so based on Caroline's review I decided to give Dr. Kim a call. Everyone on his staff was very friendly and helpful. I was a first time patient and not only was the receptionist very friendly over the phone, she was also very patient in explaining payment and insurance options (I am uninsured but found out I do have some options!). The super cute dental tech that gave me my cleaning was very attentive and checked in with me frequently to make sure I was ok. Finally it was Dr. Kim that sealed the deal. He was very patient and really sat and listened to my concerns when I explained to him why I was there. He said we'd start off with and xray and a cleaning and go from there. He was very present, and made sure not to keep me waiting too long for anything. There was no sales pitch. Too often I have been to dentists that start with all the recommendations like whitening, braces, training wheels, gold caps, etc. etc. but Dr. Kim wasn't trying to sell me anything. In the end all I had was a cleaning and he sent me on my way, said I had healthy teeth, and come back in 6 months for another one. On top of all that the bill was very very affordable which is a primary concern for someone like me without insurance. Thanks Dr. Kim!!
