Being that I drink champagne (or sparkling wine if you wanna get technical) like it's my job, I couldn't wait to try this place!

My girlfriends and I met here just prior to the yelp event at Exhale, and were not disappointed.  Besides the fact that it always looks closed (which is likely why I haven't been before), it actually has a very cool vibe going on inside.  If I could have a room in my house like this, I would - comfy seats, gorgeous chandeliers, a lot of mirrored surfaces and ceiling to floor champagne bottles in every color!

We were brought menus that highlighted the choices of the day, and the list was pretty long, actually. Since there were 3 of us we each ordered a different glass to have a variety.  Two were good, one was amazing, and all were inexpensive.

We didnt stay long, as there was a surprise party going on that was pretty much filling up the room...it's actually a great space for a good gathering, not too small but cozy - and we had somewhere to be - but all 3 of us agreed we'd come back soon.

The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is they dont have a patio.  It's not in a  great location for sitting outside anyway - but I love to sip champagne in the sun on a spring day!

OK... so I went for the free tasting because I'm cheap like that, but if you're going to offer it up, then I'm going to take it.

Sadly, due to the holidays they cancelled their free tasting that they supposedly have EVERY Friday. Umm, yeah... if that's the case, maybe mention it on your website. I had a sneaking suspicion that there wasn't going to be anything free, so I should have called ahead and asked, my bad.

Regardless, the place is small, modern, yet booooooooooring. I don't even remember what, if any, music was playing in the background, and for being a champagne place, they really didn't have that much to offer on the menu. And it was super whack that they had a glass of Chandon on the menu for $8. You can totally buy a whole bottle for practically that price at Costco. If I'm going to a champagne store, I expect a little more of a fancy variety.

Dear Brut,
Thanks for the overpriced champagne and the way too strong incense (seriously, in a wine/champagne atmosphere???) smell. I won't be back. Ever.

Cheers,
Kristen G.

Visited Brut with a friend for her birthday with high expectations because as the Rickster pointed out in his review, Brut allegedly had the largest selection in town. Now this may be the case, but they only uncork a handful for consumption by the glass. The night we went we had a choice from 5 selections: that we could sample by the glass: 3 that were not really champagnes but sparkling wines.

Now I am bubbly-challenged so I don't know any better, but I enjoyed the bluberry-esque  concoction I ordered but my friend was disappointed with the choices. Of course, we could have always ordered an entire bottle from their stock but I don't want to give myself a coronary figuring out the price considering that most glasses that were available ran $8-$14 a piece.

It is a nice space, however, located adjacent to Trader Vic's at the Hotel Palomar. Sure it's small and can become crowded but if it's not busy it is a comfortable place to hang if you're not a champagne snob.

I am giving an additional star for the adorable girl who was working there. She looked just like one of my favorite actresses, Lindsay Price, who places Victory on Lipstick Jungle (ugh!) and had a sparking smile. She did spend more time talking to her boyfriend that waiting on the few customers but she was friendly every time she came over.

In summation, Brut works if you want a cool, classy place to hang but aren't picky about your bubbly.
