Cool, funky, friendly, traditional, unique an enigma wrapped in bacon.  Low impact on the wallet as well.

(on the down low, this is almost a 5 star)

So a lot of the less than rave reviews are about very specific items.  This is not really going to be much different other than to say I visit a lot of diners around New England and this one has made it into my heart.

Why you might be asking given the other reviews?  Well, my family and I don't mind sitting at the counter, the staff was fantastic. The food, well what I ate, was heavenly. Please, keep in mind it is a diner.  It even has 'diner' in it's name just in case you forget.

So, here is the deal.  We went for breakfast.  Their menu is full of stuff like, "The Elvis" the "Little Richard" which is what I had and the "Chubby Checker."  So I am only going to speak for the Little Richard, all though everyone in my party loved what they got as well.

The Little Richard is nothing more than chipped beef in cream gravy on Texas Toast with home fries (I added a couple of eggs).  It has been a long time since I have have had this.  Where I come from this is "S.O.S.".  I guess in the NE S.O.S. has hamburger in it, which by the way is the Elvis.  So I had my childhood flash back moment and almost cried, it was that good.  The homemade grave was perfect.  I know, how silly am I.  But I have to tell you, go there, order it, and while you are about to dig in, get centered, let your mind clear and then savor the flavor.

On a side note, the Pancakes are huge "Chubby Checker" and you can get them with blueberry.  I would have liked to have tasted them, but once the fog lifted from my head and I looked over, there was nothing left on the pancake plate but a blue smear from the berries.

So I can not speak for the lunches, but for the breakfast, I am heard pressed to find much better from a Diner.

This place is cute, tasty Diner food, but VERY small and cramped.  I came with a group of about six and we were very uncomfortably smashed in - so I definitely don't recommend for groups.

The food itself was great, and the smallness of the place actually makes it quite cozy if you are not with a huge group.  They serve nice big delicious omelettes and the prices are cheaper than comparable breakfast places.

Lastly, it does get crowded on weekend mornings so also be prepared to wait for a bit outside before you can be seated.  Dress appropriately!

Found the lobster roll as well as the clam roll disappointing. The grilled haddock sandwich on the other hand was worth the trip.

They do let you substitute hash browns for fries, this is why Diner's rock.

The place is small and filled with regulars. Love that the regulars have their mugs hanging.

Cool diner. Good food and typical inexpensive Maine pricing. I wouldn't come here for fried seafood, I would come for breakfast food. I was in a group of 5, any bigger groups aren't a good idea. Insiders tip-try the blueberry oatmeal, its not on the menu.

I persuaded my brother to come meet me at the Brunswick Diner for breakfast as I was passing through town, ("Do we have to?  Why don't you just come here and we'll MAKE breakfast for you?), and since that time they've gone to the Brunswick Diner sans me for Mother's Day, one birthday breakfast, one impromptu day off mini-celebration, and to shake off one of those lingering Friday night's out - if you know what I mean.  So I guess the place made an impression.

Breakfast really is a lot of fun there.  They'll make fries for you with your eggs instead of hash browns if you want.  They'll put all sorts of yummy things in your omelet.  You'll have a hard time deciding what you want, even though the menu isn't that big.  And everyone at the table will be happy with their breakfast (and won't need to eat again for a couple of days).  Cute little place.  Sassy waitress who is willing to chat.  And an extra star for converting my loathe-to-leave-the-house brother.

I had been here long ago, and completely forgotten about it.  I think my memory was supressing the fact that I was in MAINE.  But recently, I was again, up here in the middle-of-nowhere against my will.  The only highlight of the entire event was that I got to have breakfast here on my way home.  Sausage gravy & biscuits.  Decent.  The sausage is in giant chunks and the gravy has a little heat to it.  The biscuits - I can't tell if they're fresh or processed - I want to say they were pre-made but whatever.  I liked my breakfast and I liked the inside of the place.  It wasn't even all that crowded and this was Sunday morning - prime time for a diner like this one!

As the rollover star text says, Meh, I've had better.
Greasy and tasty diner food, decent service, and crappy diner coffee. Nothing to write home about, but not a bad place to stop in for your fried eggs and french toast.

While driving from Boston to Southport, ME at 3am this vintage rail car caught.  On the way back, at a more appropriate hour, I stopped off for a quick bite for lunch.  There isn't a ton of seating so I'm sure lines can be a problem at peak hours.  Breakfast is served all day and there are a few tables outdoors.  I also saw a sign posted that they are open 24 hours Friday & Saturday.

My wife and I grabbed a spot at the bar and were quickly served a decent cup of coffee; about what you would expect from a diner.  We started with the soup of the day - seafood (which had huge bits of lobster meat).  It was really great and my personal highlight of the meal.  We both had lobster rolls for our entree and while my wife thought it was great, I didn't think it was spectacular.

Looking around at other tables all the breakfasts looked pretty great, including the pancakes and the tuna melt looked amazing.  All in all, I think this is a great spot to hit.  The service was good, very friendly, and the food was pretty tasty.

Note that its cash only.  Not a huge deal as there is an ATM just outside the door.

Great crusty diner atmosphere. One waitress handling all patrons (mix of regulars and tourists); considering that, service is cheerful and efficient - she refers to everyone as "Dahlin'." Chatty, but not intrusive. Good oldies playing on jukebox. Decent food, doesn't knock my socks off, but hey, it's eggs and toast in a diner -- sure beats fast food fare from a chain. Worth the slight detour on our trip home from Maine. Hope to return some day to test restaurant's and reviewers' claims about having the best lobster roll.

Long wait on the weekends, but yummy.  You can get pretty much anything you want.  Go for the pancakes.

I went back in late July '08 for a roll. The price for a lobster roll was $16.95, so I opted for a crab roll.  The market price for a crab roll was not on the board, but generally they are $3-4 cheaper than a lobster roll. I was shocked to learn the crab roll was $14.95.   It wasn't that good.

Brusnwick Diner is off the list.

    Poor service, cold food, dirty.
We ordered standard breakfast meals that took over 35 minutes.   At one point, the waitress came to our table to deliver the bill and realized that we hadn't received our food yet!  After being served pancakes, there was no butter on the table.  She returned with a huge bowl of butter so much later that the pancakes were cold.   Bacon was terrible.   Music boxes at the the table don't work but take your quarters.  We left a 5% tip and honestly felt like that was way too much.

The sign on the outside says Best Lobster Roll in Maine. I wasn't convinced. Not awful, but not the best by a long shot.
