The sandwiches are delicious and are packed with ultimate goodness!!
After a beach photo session with Enrique of Mezaflicks, my husband and I ate were famished and craved an awesome sandwich. We found it at Bruno's.
We ordered a turkey sandwich from the deli (6.49) and a tritip sandwich from the grill outside ($7 w/soda).
The market itself was incredible. The shelves were neat and organized. They also carry a variety of desserts and chips. Everything you would need for a picnic. No 5 stars because there is no seating to devour your sandwich. We walked across the street and ate at the park.
They sell an assortment of Lula's Chocolates (located in Ryan Ranch) and they make cute little gifts. They have a solid wine selection and located next to Surf & Sand so you have more adult beverage selections there if you so desire.
Love their deli. Picked up some sausages to grill on my way to Bocci Ball Tourney at a friends in the valley. Also some Tzatski and Roasted Onion & Gruyere Cheese dips!. We drank so much that I don't think anyone played Bocci but we did get to see our friends renew their vows by Master Pee aka Pee Wee aka the Masta of Disasta... he's ordained.
It was quite a show.
So anyways, Bruno's has it all. Was in with another friend a few weeks back and picked up some lovely cuts of meat. Best homemade dinner in a long time. Love this place!

They grill their meats daily. Shared the Tri Tip sandwich with my sisters today at our picnic on… Read more »
A deli with awesome corned beef and pastrami sliced to order.
Happy tummy.
We picked up a bunch of sandwiches here before heading down to Big Sur. They were big and the ingredients were good.
The store has a big selection of snacks and desserts as well, and if we were staying closer by we would have tried the barbecue and clam chowder (the sample was delicious).
This place is off the beaten path in Carmel-by-the Sea but its walking distance from Ocean and the perfect place to pick up food and snacks if you are making your way to the beach or the park.
Prices are more then what you would pay for at Safeway or any other large market but they also carry some more unique items and make it convenient if you don't feel like hauling food in your car.
The sandwiches here are awesome!! Check it out sometime!
How can so many delicious things be packed into such a small space?? There is most definitely something for everyone at Bruno's. Drool-worthy BBQ, a nice variety of wines, sodas of every stripe, baked goods ranging from local-made to more standard fair, candy galore - I'm having a hard time thinking of what ISN'T sold at Bruno's.
And it's all wrapped up in the guise of a sweet, unassuming little corner store. No pretenses here and the staff is just as down to earth. Flashy tourists need not apply - this is straight up, local Carmel (before local Carmel became a bedrock of fancy schmancy stores). Charming, friendly and laid back.
Years ago, when I lived in Monterey, we would go to the Mediterranean Market to get sandwiches and picnic supplies before heading down to Carmel beach. Sadly, Mediterranean Market is gone, but Bruno's is more than a worthy replacement.
Tried the tri-tip sandwich and my friend got the meatball sandwich and all we have to say is outstanding! The tri-tip was so frigging good.
They also have a great selection of wines and wrapped-ready-to-go desserts. Stop here before heading to the beach for all your picnic needs.
Tried the bbq sandwich and it was good, but too much sauce. The tuna sandwich was not good (my lettuce was kinda brown in some spots)...this is a good pit stop if you need a quick bite, but it wasn't the best sandwiches ever....The market itself was pretty good.
I love Bruno's! We go there frequently when in Carmel (a couple times a month). They have everything you need - including some great prepared salads in the deli, super deli sandwiches, excellent BBQ, decent wine selection, locally made candies (so yummy), and the basics (milk, cheese, etc.). It's on the expensive side (what do you expect for convenience in Carmel?), but for quick runs and immediate satisfaction, you can't beat it.
Last Thanksgiving, we ordered a Prime Rib (actual Prime cut of meat, not easy to find nowadays). It was superb!
They also deliver - and have excellent service.
The tri-tip sandwich was great! The meat was sliced thin, they weren't stingy with the cheese, and the bread was soft; a great sandwich! For $6.95 + tax it wasn't an awesome deal, but not bad for the quality you get.
This is Carmel. Period. A very nice market with good selection of general goods. But the 5 star push is all about the deli. Choices abound, and the service is amazing. The trick is not to act like an impatient tourist in this town, and this rule applies double here.
Lunchtime here is a bit hectic. So please be patient and you will be treated to a hand-crafted sandwich that will leave you craving more if you even have room for it! The wine selection here is also impressive.
A great place to stop before heading to the Forest Theatre for a matinee, or for a picnic on the beach with your sweetheart.
My husband and I were staying in Carmel and wanted to get a deli sandwich at 9:00 in the morning. Thanks to Yelp, we found Brunos, called them and they were open.
We walked over there, and were amazed at what the store contained even though it is not very large. The aisles were very clean, and the shelves were stocked. The products they carry tend to be of the more gourmet variety, but the prices were consistent with the same items we buy at our local store in Sacramento.
We got a huge deli sandwich, made to order--roast beef with swiss, for only $4.99. The deli also offers salads--we got some pasta salad. One nice thing is that they offer plastic utensils with the deli food which was great. The sandwich and salad were both pretty tasty.
We also got a breakfast burrito for only $3.49, and went back to our inn and microwaved it. It was cheap and very tasty.
The market offers a large selection of standard and specialty sodas.
What a great place to stop for a sandwich, or just to pick up that special item you can't find at your local Safeway.
Delicious, solid, community minded little store where you can get a snack, a meal, or treats for your hotel room.
Great selection, interesting finds... you will not be disappointed here.
enjoy!
I would constantly curse Bruno if I lived near his deli. Why? Every day Bruno and his cohorts fire up the bbq grill and cook up meats for their deli. If I noted even the slightest whiff of smoke in the air, I would feel compelled to visit the deli daily for another delicious tri tip sandwich (think cheese and bbq sauce slathered on freshly grilled meat; mmmmm). No 5 stars due to only having the tri tip sandwich (as opposed to a more thorough sampling of items) but definitely a strong start for Bruno and company. Conveniently located in the middle of town and, while I didn't notice prices, a large selection of wines is available.
The trick is to get there before the pie sells out. I hope they still sell them, 'cus they were fabulous.
The market is a little expensive for my taste, but what isn't in Carmel? Everything here is jacked up a couple of dollars, but I feel like I'm paying to NOT shop at a chain supermarket where the stepford workers look like they've all been botoxed up the ass.
The people are super friendly and know pretty much everyone by name. If you live in Carmel and you don't feel like driving to Safeway, this is your trusty neighborhood market.
What a great store!
We stay for several days each time we go to Carmel. Most of our time is spent walking our dogs and letting them run on the beach.
We've gone to the Cheese Shop for cheese and sausage and we've picked up snack items at Nielsen Brothers but Bruno's is the place to go. Their friendly staff made us 2 large, fresh deli sandwiches, then dished up some cole slaw to go with the sandwiches. I grabbed a couple of candy bars and we were good to go for dinner one night. All for only $16.40 no tax no tip! You can't beat that for an expensive place like Carmel!!
This is our new favorite food spot!
They also have a good wine selection and the people were very friendly.
Oh yeah, my kind of place!
Bruno's is THE place to go get a sandwich in Carmel, and have lunch that won't break your pocketbook. I always love to get a turkey, a bag of chips and maybe a cupcake to take to the park across the street. So next to the Grove Market, this would be a close second as far as the sandwiches go!
I asked the guy at The Cheese Shop for the best deli in town and he told me to go here. Very nice market with a great selection of wine. The deli has a big selection of prepared foods. We enjoyed the artichoke, crab salad, and a ham sandwich.
Oh...try the butcher shop...or the deli sandwiches...this place is yum! Also, they have a private parking lot, so it is easy to come/go.
Also, the grocery store portion has well stocked produce section and easy to find grocery items. Ran by a local family, and a must stop place to grab great things for a homemade dinner or a quick sandwich to eat at the park.
Four stars for the tri tip sandwich alone. It's nice that this deli has a a parking lot to get in and out easily. Nice to pick up something quick without it being greasy and unhealthy.
good quality of foods in a small space. Upscale and homade variety of small portion meals. Very friendly service!
Their deli sandwiches are made to order and delish! They do not skimp on the portions either-- to me it is worth paying the 5-6 dollars for a huge mouthful of goodness. There is a wide variety of salads and sides--- their section is stocked with take and bake goodies like meatballs, enchiladas and pastas. Try their tri tip and BBQ, it is perfect on a rainy or summer day (marinaded meats are readily available for sale-- WOOT!!)
The only reason I went to Bruno's was to buy some medicine (to get rid of a fever) for what I thought was the flu (turns out it wasn't even the flu) that I suddenly acquired while on a road trip. Bruno's is just down the street from Best Western, where I was staying.
