Willow Glen's Lincoln Avenue is alive with artistic forces!
If there's one element in my life that has been a constant source of energy, it's Jazz. Somehow, it has followed me or rather, I the follower, have traced it's web of inspiration wherever it surfaces. I was so happy today to visit the Bruni Gallery during lunch, a much needed visual break in my day.
My dad's record collection that I grew up with has always been accompanied by art inspired by its unique sound, some of which are now a few prints from Bruni Sablan. It was amazing to see actual canvases that she has painted, and even one that was so fresh it was still wet from her brush!
Bruni's style is vibrant with strong colors and textural strokes that have as much expression as be-bop, the blues, the benevolent will to help others and the sorrow of desperation. Whatever the feeling is that her subject portrays, her beautiful portraits sing out to her viewer in melodies that only hues of paint can speak.
Although Bruni was not there today, I had the opportunity to see where she works: a bright, open studio in the back of this newly acquired space on Lincoln Avenue. An acclaimed Smithsonian artist, talent runs in her family. Her daughter, whose work is already shown alongside her mother's, will soon join the gallery upstairs. In addition to this, Mark Gray, who has studied under Bruni for 5 years, also works and displays his work here. His focus is on sports, but is clear that Gray's work is a nod to his teacher.
If the likes of Miles, Dizzy, Sinatra, Mother Teresa, or Che Guevara bring out the creative admirer in you, this is a gallery to get lost in finding.Listed in: A Walk in the Willows, Creative Juice
