Washington, DC
My favorite friendly neighborhood bagel establishment. The employees are efficient and polite, the service is speedy, and the smoked salmon on rosemary/olive oil bagel sandwich is the most delectable lox concoction I've tasted. It's truly out-of-this-world for such a simple dish as a bagel with cream cheese, salmon, capers, red onions, and tomato. The ingredients all taste fresh and like they're good quality. The "everything" bagel is also great, as are the cream cheese options. I know Bruegger's isn't considered a titan of the bagel world, but this location definitely gets the job done.

It's pretty sad when Bruegger's is the best place around for bagels; but hey - this is DC, and until someone can manage to replicate a good NY bagel locally, this is what we've got.
To be fair, this is a better-than-average Bruegger's. The line moves fast, even when it's long, and the employees are (usually) friendly. Prices are reasonable on some items, but high on others. Choose carefully. Half-price dozens on Wednesdays are an especially good deal. -

I'm write this review with understand that in Boston, we had much better bagels than anyplace I've found DC to date. With that in your mind, Bruegger's is the best bagel place in DC!
The staff are friendly and move the line through quickly.
This location is usually nice and clean. The also have a basket of "last night's bagels" which they sell really cheap. I like to buy them and freeze them. When you toast it at home, it taste just as fresh. A good value. -

I bought some bagels here to bring to a friend's house for breakfast. They were really good. The person at the counter also didn't get angry at me for being indecisive about which bagels I wanted (they had a good selection). =D
I haven't had a chance to try other stuff, though, so that's not included in my stars. -

Good (fresh) bagels. Good coffee. Friendly service. Fast. Cheap. For what it is, Bruegger's is a great place for studying, reading or just catching up with a friend. Much better than Starbucks.
What more can you ask for, really? -

Consistently good bagels. You can get breakfast bagels all day. Yes I said all day. Friendly staff. And just around the corner from K Street. Pretty clean and fast service. This Brueggers is a solid cheap choice for the area when you're tired of deli sandwhiches and salads. Sorry Subway and Potebelly's but I can only handle so much of you.
My only real complaint. Sometimes staff can be a bit off and they don't carry the chocolate chip bagel. Mon dieu... sacrilege I know. And, yes they maybe horrible for you but sometimes I just crave one) -

Was wandering around this part of DC in the morning and needed something I knew would taste good and be hot. They make it right in front of you so you know it's good to go (unlike other restaurants, McDonald's).
The staff was friendly, making small talk with the customers. They greeted me as I walked in (very surprised). Overall, great experience and recommend if you find yourself needing a little something to eat but won't break the bank. -

First I went to the Burbon coffee place next door (their website suggested that they have a lunch menu as well as wonderful coffee). Unfortunately they had no food so I ended up at Brueggers Bagels instead... and what a wonderful mistake it was!
I got the classic breakfast wrap, which is reasonably priced, seemingly fresh and has really great taste. The wifi was foolproof - no annoying "click here for free wifi" pages, albeit a little on the slow side. Plenty of tables to sit and chat or a couple sofas to lounge.
Overall, this place was exactly what I was looking for. It may not have the character of the place next door, but it's a worthwhile stop. -

Food/Cost: (3/5) I made a lunch stop here for the upteenth time yesterday. I ordered a Bagel w/Cream Cheese, Chai Tea Latte ($1.97 w/tax for a S), and Everything Cookie ($1.49 w/tax). The coffee beverages here are not good. Their Chai Latte had an overwhelming sweetness that hid any hint of spice - I don't recommend it. The Everything Cookie was actually quite delightful -- very chewy soft with chocolate, butterscotch, coconut bits, and oats throughout. I've tried countless varieties of bagels (~$1.50 average), wraps, and sandwiches (~$7 average) and they've all been enjoyable. They offer both breakfast bagel sandwiches and regular savory sandwiches, with a good varied selection for each. Soups and salads are also available, but I can't speak to those as I haven't tried them before. Food-wise, Bruegger's is nothing particularly noteworthy, but it is a solid choice.
Ambiance: (3/5) I come here to study frequently because they have free wifi, large tables, a good number of outlets along the walls, and there's usually space (unless its a weekend during students' exam season). There's nothing special in terms of decor -- its a bit commercial -- but its casual and cohesive. My only complaint is that there are often small houseflies that perch along the western wall here (though never in the food area -- weird), especially in the spring and summer. They need to do something about that.
Location: (4/5) This Bruegger's is located near the Foggy Bottom metro stop and is an easy stroll for students and workers in the area.
Service: (4/5) The staff have been consistently friendly; even though you only interact with them while ordering and paying for your food, they manage to make a very good impression during that short time. You're suppose to bus your own tables, but if you've been sitting there awhile and they are straightening up, they'll clear your table for you.
Overall: (3.25/5) There's no need to make a special trip here unless you're in the area and are in need of a quick breakfast or lunch. Just a note: Currently, on Wednesdays they offer a special deal of 12 bagels for $5.99. In addition, they have pre-bagged, day-old bagels for a lower price of $2.99 for 6(?). -

It's around the corner from my office. It's cheap. I eat here a lot.
Bruegger's is a chain, there isn't anything overly special about the place other than the staff. They are SO DAMN FRIENDLY. I really appreciate that they refer to you by name, are super polite and like to joke around with customers. The restaurant is very clean and tidy (a good sign when food is around).
Most sandwiches are about $5-7, par for the course in this area. I really love the ham and cheddar panini and tomato soup, yum! -

Washington, DC
I want to give Bruegger's 5 stars for taste--I really do--because it's one of the best bagel places in a city nearly devoid of bagelries. But if you factor in wait time and service, this Bruegger's drops a staggering 2 stars.
I've been in this location plenty of times, and have had to wait a minimum of 5 minutes each time to get a toasted bagel with cream cheese. Seriously, that should take no more than 2 minutes, even if there's a bit of a line. The kicker occurred this past Sunday: I went in around noon to grab a dozen bagels for my house and waited a good 10 minutes before anyone took my order. I would understand this if it was a weekday morning, or if one person was working---but there were three people behind the counter, one of whom was doing nothing. Service fail, Bruegger's!
The bagels are SO good though, for DC--I keep coming back and waiting in the line even though I know I shouldn't. But the everything bagels with bacon scallion cream cheese are too good to pass up. I'd wait for them for an hour if I had to! -

My girlfriend and I stopped by on a Sunday morning on our monthly pilgrimage to the cheap hooch heaven that is Trader Joes.... and it was very pleasant.
The wait was short, the people were pleasant, the food was good (jalapeno cream cheese on whole wheat bagel)....
But the star of the show.... the Pumpkin Spice Coffee.... not as good as Dunkin's but pretty damn good. -
Review from Jules A.
Columbia Heights, Washington, DC
People often say "how hard is it to screw up a bagel?" and I have to think "you're adorable!". If these wonderfully naive people have ever been to NYC you ponder if they've ever managed to escape the gravity of Times Square in search of non-chain chow. It's downright easy to mess up a bagel and once you've had something truly yummy you'll go straight to the freezer and throw that rascally Lenders crap out for the birds.
If you can't stand chains walk a block towards K Street and give independent and aptly named K Street Bagel a spin. When I need a bagel fix it's a toss up between the two.
Bruegger's does a pretty good job and they have some nifty spins on the norm. You can always get sesame, everything, and the like, but you can also get lovely odd things like cheddar jalapeno or baked apple. The latter is perfect by itself, no cream cheese required, and it is sweet, doughy and chewy all at the same time. Yum.
Downsides of this place are few. When I go the usual morning cashier spends a lot of time on the phone talking to friends so the line moves rather slowly. Type A DC sorts tend to bust a blood vessel over this wanton disregard for their valuable time so the vibe in the line can wander towards tense. Not to worry, sleepy GW students balance it all out.
The staff are usually friendly even when it's rush hour, remember what you ask for and actually make it, and at the time of writing the place is pretty new and kept very clean. -

Washington, DC
I've long searched for a place to go when I want to just hang out and do some light computer work...
Today's visit to Bruegger's has pretty much sealed the deal for me that this is the place I have been looking for. Here's what's won me over:
- The store itself is spacious and airy. You never feel like you're sitting "on top" of another table of guests.
- They have free wi-fi. They also have three sets of outlets throughout the store.
- They play great music. (I've heard Bob Dylan, John Mayer, Indigo Girls among others today. This is the music I'd be playing in my apartment for this sort of thing anyway so it's perfect.)
- They do their best to keep everything clean. I've seen the workers come around wiping down the tables and straigthening up the coffee table several times during my visit.
- They are friendly, deal with my order customizations/requests well, and have even remembered my order. I like light cream cheese. I want extra ingredients on my bagel. I appreciate an extra pickle slice. None of these are a problem at Bruegger's.
- I had been long enough today that I considered going up and ordering another cup of coffee. As if someone had read my mind, one of the workers came over to offer me a free refill and ensured me that I could stay as long as I wanted.
A few other things to know:
- They take GWorld Colonial Cash which works out well for GW students.
- Be sure to ask for a frequent visitor card. If you buy enough bagels and/or cups of coffee and get your cards punched you will get a free bagel and/or coffee during your next visit.
It doesn't get much better than all this! I plan on coming back here frequently. :) -

I have only had good experiences the 10 or so times I grabbed breakfast here -- the staff is pretty darn happy when I roll in at 7am, and if you can be happy (or fake it) at 7am, that's saying something.
I usually get something kinda particular, as I'm one of those people who never want things the way they appear on the menu (e.g. no mayo, extra cream cheese, lots of tomato, cut it in half, don't cut it in half, etc -- don't hate me, I'm picky!). Usually I get dirty looks from DC's less-than-customer-service-friendly workers, but the people at Bruegger's have been really, really nice every time.
Their blueberry bagels are so yum -- I think it's because they put dried blueberries in as well as regular, so the flavor is different. It's a little richer and less berry tasting, which might not be everyone's cup of tea, but to me, it's something I could eat every darn day. Seriously, I think I may have to spend more time in the gym in the near future because of my love for them.
This place would normally rate about a 4, but the amazingness of the blueberry bagels gets them that extra star. -

Washington, DC
As I've barely eaten at Brueggers save for an office breakfast with their bagels - I can't provide adequate input on the food, but consider this: while most the other neighborhood bodegas offer coffee at a similar price, they don't offer any perks beyond the pep of the caffeine. At Brueggers, every 6th cup is free. That's pretty much incentive to make this your morning coffee stop with almost one free cup a week (and any size free cup, I might add).
Typically having 2, maybe 3, people on staff, things can get pretty slow for the right-at-nine crowd looking for breakfast, but staff are friendly. In a quiet business district with a smattering of breakfast/coffee shops, this is a fairly nice, clean option. -

This location is near my office, and I pick up breakfast there on a fairly regular basis. The food is consistently good, and the service is always fantastic. They seem to know that most people are in a hurry, so they get you in and out quickly, but without making you feel like they are rushing you through the door. Everyone who works there seems friendly and genuinely interested in doing a good job. I wish that more restaurants in the area had employees like the ones here.

My boyfriend and I LOVE Bruegger's. It is our go-to breakfast spot. The staff is extremely friendly and the soups are delicious. We recently ventured out of our egg and cheese bagel lunches and tried the Tomato soup which is absolutely delicious. Overall, Bruegger's is a great place, if you are in the mood for a bagel, it will hit the spot!

Tasty breakfast sandwiches and beverages at a reasonable price. I had breakfast here two days this past week and found both visits enjoyable and worth the price.

Service and cleanliness are excellent, but the bagels are very small and the quality of the bagels is just okay. If you like Noah's Bagels in CA, you'll probably like Bruegger's better than I did.

Review from Ningxi X.
Fresh bread, great bagels and sandwiches, okay coffee, and good service. I've become a regular at Bruegger's for almost two years now, and still prefer it over its two newcomer neighbors. The bagel sandwiches and paninis are always good, and if you get occasional email coupons if you sign up online. The music isn't loud, and when you sit down to savor a bagel or sip a cup of coffee you usually can hear the friendly exchange between a server and a customer over the counter (compared to some cafes where pop songs play nonstop in an obtrusively loud volume, this is nice). There's free wifi, and a large selection of foods and beverages (bagels, sandwiches, paninis, soups, salads, coffees, juices, cream cheeses for retail, etc). Good ambiance, and they recently pushed the booths more to the side to create more space for the line and checkout area. They sell bagels from the night before for a lower price, and store merchandise like mugs is also available for purchase.

i went here to grab a quick bite after my lunch meeting ran out of veggie sandwiches (another story, but no lunch for me).
i ordered the 'leonardo da veggie' as a wrap. despite the large glowing sign that advertises filling wraps, my wrap equated to elf food. i watched in dismay as the manager put exactly 2 tomato slices, 2 red pepper strips, 1 lettuce leaf, a handful of red onions and a slice of cheese on the wrap. after he finished rolling it, it wasn't even twice the size of my blackberry. now the only thing i can taste is onion since there was more of that than anything else.
there are simply better lunch places downtown, along K, L and M streets. i did have a coupon, but even that did not make this a good deal.
my co-worker also complained about a salad she had from here. she ordered caesar, it tasted like asian something. the management gave her a free meal, but her second salad was wilted and still didnt taste quite right. maybe it's their dressing.
my advice is to stick to casey's until this place works out the kinks. -

So a disclaimer is in order here--I work literally across the street from this place, so if I want take-out lunch in a hurry, it's the easiest spot to run on over to.
My office get its Monday morning meeting bagels and cream cheese from Bruegger's as well--the honey wheat or cinnamon raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese is a frequent Monday-morning guilty pleasure. The bagels are chewy and tasty, and the cream cheese is decent. It's a bagel..how hard can it be to screw up?
I've ordered their Leanardo di Veggie on a softwich (square bagel) twice--it's tasty and filling...though watch those calories, if you care about that. Otherwise, my lunch mainstay is a cup of their soup--the chili is great, spicy and filling, and you get a mini-cheese roll to dip in it. For less than $4, it's a quick, cheap, and tasty lunch option. I wouldn't travel far to come eat here, but with the convenience factor added in, it's a lunch-time mainstay for me for the time being. -

I was staying at the marriott nearby and was looking for a bagel. The reviews were really good, but when I got here I realized this was just another corporate bagel place.
Bagels were acceptable, at least the cream cheese wasn't whipped (I'm looking at your Einstein's), but the only reason this gets 3 stars instead of 2 is because the cashier was so damn friendly. Not just to me, but every person who came in. It didn't seem fake or forced and it wasn't obtrusive.
She genuinely looked like she was enjoying her job and trying to brighten other people's days.
This would be a place to go if you were nearby and craving a bagel, not worth going out of your way for. -

Washington, DC
I'm from the North East and I've been to NYC quite a few times and I know good bagels - these aren't bad, but certainly not the best, they don't have the gluteny chew and weight of a really great bagel. Having said that, they aren't bad, and I've always gotten great service there - it's not chain like service, but much more personal, the staff takes a bit getting used to, but, hey, welcome to DC, that's just how it is here. Once you get to know the people in the store, the experience is totally different.

Washington, DC
For me, Bruegger's was a weekly routine when I was little: Go to dance class, get a bagel. It's amazing that I wasn't huge. Ok, maybe I was just a tiny bit. When I moved out to DC and realized that there was nary an acceptable bagel ANYWHERE in the city, I made a point to always stop for a bagel when I went home for a visit. But this Jewish girl is now thanking her lucky stars that Bruegger's has finally come to DC. Whether or not you think I was indoctrinated from an early age, the fact of the matter is that I simply cannot eat a bagel from anywhere else. The bagels are just so chewy, the cream cheese is just so creamy, the chicken spaetzle is just so spaetzle-y? And since I am someone that actually budgets time into my day-to-day life for relaxing and taking it a little slow, I don't mind having to wait a few minutes. I'm just happy to have my bagel back.

This place has THE best bagels in all of the Washington D.C. area and also the most amazing hazelnut coffee. Be sure to try the light herb garlic cream cheese. The staff is extremely friendly. I can't tell you how happy I am that Bruegger's has come to Washington at long last!

Review from KJ D.
Arlington, VA
I frequently go to Bruegger's because it is so close to my office. The bagels themselves are great and the sandwiches are pretty good for the price. However, the cream cheese tastes like it has preservatives in it. Also, it always takes forever to get through the line...even if there are only 2 other people in front of you. I don't think it is the employees (who are all friendly and appear to work quickly), but an issue with the system used by the company. Other nearby sandwich/bagel shops move much more quickly with even longer lines. Nonetheless, I'll keep coming back for the bagels...but will leave off the cream cheese.
