I was referred by a friend who had a root canal performed by Dr. Jespersen. My initial visit involved getting a new root canal. My appointment was @ 8:40am. The entire process only took an hour (completing paperwork, local anesthesia, root canal, and co-payment). I was literally out the door @ 9:40am. I felt absolutely no pain during or after the procedure.
I had a follow up visit with Dr. Jespersen to "redo" another root canal that was performed incorrectly by a general dentist several years ago. I thought this would be a true testiment to his skills as an Endodontist.. He has to remove the old work and start anew...I thought for sure I would have some kind of pain or discomfort.
To my delight I was proved wrong. Not only did I not have any discomfort or pain the entire process once again only took an hour!!! -

I recently needed a root canal. I read the reviews on Yelp and thought that Dr. Jesperson was the guy for me. I was in excruciating pain and the staff was able to get me in sooner than my appointment time which I was thankful for. The front desk staff seemed nice enough when I arrived.
When I was taken back, the tech wasn't warm or friendly. No smiles or concern over my pain. She had me put on "safety glasses" that were smudged and dirty. She then took an xray and shoved a metal instrument in my mouth onto my sore tooth. No gentleness was given at all, but I was in too much pain to say anything.
A few minutes later the doctor came in. He was friendlier than the tech but not much. I was in so much pain that I guess I was literally squirming in the chair. I was crying from the intense pain as he prepped the tooth. He asked if I was OK and I told him that I was " in pain and freaking out." He told me "You can freak out as much as you want as long as you hold still."( I guess the nitrous I payed $150 out of pocket for wasn't having much affect even after I asked them to turn it up.) He also told me to raise my hand if I experienced pain during the procedure. I raised my hand when he hit a painful spot that wasn't numb enough. He replied with "Is that sore?, OK good to know" and proceeded his work without further numbing the area. He finished his work and told me that the root canal was a success and to let him know if I had any concerns, then left the tech to finish me up.
The procedure as a whole wasn't too too painful after I was (mostly) numb, but I've had a root canal before with a different dentist and literally felt no pain at all and was given plenty of nitrous to relax me. If I was made more comfortable by the attitude of the staff and Dr. Jesperson himself my rating would be higher. I know root canals are never fun, but this was a particularly unpleasant one. -

BEST! I shouldn't be proud to say but I've had 3 root canals done by Dr. Bruce & he is greatest. PAINLESSS! Like everyone says he's fast/ you'll be done in less than 40 minutes. He leaves the room right away, I tried thanking him but it was impossible with the tool that keeps your mouth open inside -_- But we wouldnt have heard it because he left so fast! WHO CARES dones good& fast.
He's literally the only Endodontist I'd go see. -

Dr. Jespersen does great work, however, this office is literally a root canal factory. The appointments are scheduled back to back if not overlapping. They talk on their interoffice headsets during procedures to let the assistants know to prep the patient next door. Dr. Jespersen did not explain any of the procedure while he was working and immediately left the room when he was finished. His work was well done, but don'e expect any personal care.
In addition, when I came in for a consulation before my appointment (which was around $80 I think) he ran 1 1/2 late and made no apology. I spoke to him for about 10 minutes. -

Dr. Jesperson is very clear and helpful. He's a straight shooter. I really liked his energy and his advice. I'd highly recommend him. I think his bedside manner is great. I felt very well taken care of.
I had an infected tooth that I was hoping to save, and came in for a consult. He looked at the xrays, and he saw that there was a real likelihood of a fracture below the gum. He said if it was his, he'd pull it. And I did. The oral surgeon who checked the xrays later agreed it was the right choice. -

3.5 stars
Skill-wise, I think Dr. Jespersen's pretty skillful. Manners-wise, he is rude. Now, I'm not one to care about pointless chit-chat, "bedside" manner or anything like that, but as soon as he was done with the procedure, he bounced on out of there straight to the next person. (I could hear him in the next room).
I would have liked more clarification on post-procedure instructions, chance to ask questions, and an appointment for a follow-up. But it was like as soon as he was done, I didn't exist. When I' m paying an arm and a leg for a procedure, I expect more consideration and better follow-up care. (hence minus some stars) -

He gave me a root canal and it was really quick and easy. He didn't numb me more than necessary and he was so efficient. I had absolutely NO PAIN after the root canal. That's a miracle! I would only go see him from now on for any work I need done.

Dr. Jespersen was quick, confident and efficient. This was my first root canal and I am a huge dental phoebe. My molar ended up being extremely infected and strangely enough I was fine the following day.
Thanks Dr! -

I have no other endodontist experience with which to compare Dr. Jespersen, but between many dentists, an oral surgeon, periodontist, and orthodontist, I have experienced a diverse set of dental care.
Dr. Jespersen's root canal was painless, and seemed quite efficient. As a previous reviewer mentioned, I was warned that Dr. Jespersen was perhaps impersonal ("he's not much with people, but he's a great endodontist.") This was not at all my experience -- I found him friendly and outgoing. Maybe my expectations had just been set low in this department, but he exceeded them.
Frankly, who cares? The office feels a bit dated. Who cares? This was a root canal which didn't hurt (I didn't take the painkillers prescribed) and relieved my tooth pain. Thanks, Dr. J. -

A no nonsense straight to the point Endodontist! I wish all my doctors were as precise as him. I initially came for a consultation for pain in two molars, a root canal tooth and a crowned tooth. Turns out my root canal had to be redone because my general dentist missed a canal and I had an infection.
The crowned tooth apparently was fine. For this one, I had previously gone to another endodontist who told me it would need a root canal, but Dr. Jespersen told me it didn't need a root canal. I guess we'll see with time if the pain gets worse or not.
When I came in for the root canal re-treatment I was out in about an hour. He actually took about 35mins, the rest of the time was just for prepping the room, paperwork and payment processing. I think the receptionist that helped me was Maria and she was awesome and efficient.
I know having a root canal is no fun. But this guy made it seem like it was a walk in the park. He was light on his hands especially when it came to the anesthetic, I barely felt a pinch.
Everyone at the office seemed friendly to me.
The only complaint I have is I had originally scheduled my appt for 4pm since late afternoon works best for me, but I had to have it moved to 8am the same day because the endodontist needed to leave early or something. Yea mornings at no good for me at all. Let's hope next time I can keep the time I want. -

I was a patient of Dr. Bruce Jesperson's wife, Dr. Marilyn Jesperson, and am still a patient of Dr. Alex Kim, who is Dr. Marilyn Jesperson's successor.
I had an experience with Dr. Bruce Jesperson recently that I would like to share.
5 Star Rating Diagnostic Skill
5 Star Rating Technical Skills: Performing Root Canal Efficiently
5 Star Rating Ability to resolve dental problem quickly "real-time"
4 Star Rating Empathy with customer
Probably my biggest objection was that he wouldn't stop his root canal when I was when their was sinus drainage pooling at the back of my throat causing me to gag or feel the desperate need to swallow. I had to wait until he was ready.
It's your decision whether the last rating derails you for selecting this Endodontist. -

Although as stated above, he is not super friendly. He did the job extremely well and very efficiently. I had no sensitivity to temperature right away and no biting sensitivity one week after my root canal. It was awesome!

Extremely efficient and effective. I was referred for a root canal by my regular dentist due to a really bad toothache. I got an appointment the next day. I was in and out of there within about an hour of my appointment time, including the time spent filling out new patient forms before hand and paying for it afterwards. The actual root canal only took about 40 minutes -- I thought he was less than half-way through when Dr. Jespersen said he was just going to put on the sealant and finish up. He was out of there immediately after he wrapped up (which would explain why the waiting times are so short in his office). But I was able to get all my questions answered by his very efficient and competent assistant.
I should also mention that I was nearly 7 months pregnant at the time, and he was well-versed on the limitations regarding which antibiotics to prescribe afterwards and what sort of anesthetic to use. I got the root canal done under carbocaine (not as long-lasting as novocaine) and only needed one top-up shot half-way through. Also, had very little pain afterwards (did not need to take Tylenol or anything). Highly recommended if you want your root canals over-with quickly and done well! -

I have terrible teeth and have spent a liftime at dentists. For root canals, I have been going to Dr. Jespeson for 10 years.
I find everything about the visit, excellent. I like him because he is professional, efficient, and obviously very good judged by the lack of pain and lack of return problems on the same tooth. All this relates to vast and successful experience.
Some of the YELP reviews talk about irrelevant things as if they are Prima Donnas. If you want great "bedside manners", go get a lover.
What do you want, to chit-chat while your mouth is open and with analgesics? Or perhaps have him hold your hand instead of dig into the root? Or maybe tell you a joke or his life story and ask you questions that you wonder how to answer with an arrested mouth, or worse, chit-chat with the nurses? Get real, privileged Americans.
If you want good root canal work, I found Dr. Jesperson to be excellent. -

I went to this doctor twice, both times were emergency visits and although he had a lot of other patients he found the time for the patient in pain. He was very professional (beleive me, I've seen things), but he didn't talk much and some can treat it as being unfriendly. Rest of his office staff is also friendly and professional.

Dr. Jespersen does have a reputation (at my regular dentist's office and by people I know who have seen him) for not having much of a bedside manner. After seeing him, I found that all this means is he has his staff explain things to the patient and he is present only for the parts of the procedure that require him. He is exceedingly competent and performed the least painful root canal I've ever experienced. Others I know who have visited him have said the same thing - they could care less how much the doctor talks to them if they know they are going to experience little or no discomfort from a root canal. I've seen both Bruce Jespersen and his brother James in Santa Clara, and I'll have to give the nod to Bruce Jespersen, though the ease of the procedure may have more to do with the condition and location of the tooth than the relative skill of the two doctors. Anyway, I give Dr. Jespersen five stars because it isn't often you leave the Endodontist thinking, "Gee, that wasn't bad at all."
