Glendale, CA
Had some pizza to go, googled the menu, called it in and I was quite surprised to see their prices. They were very reasonable but I was shocked when the guy on the other side of the phone told me that it takes 45mins to an hour for the delivery time.
Lucky for us it did not take 15 mins for them to deliver the pizza. I ordered a large Pizza Supreme, some sandwiches and salads. Everything tasted good and contrary to what some people say here they all were wonderful.
To be honest I really have low expectations about this place but they really proved me wrong. I will be coming back for more and I really am happy to recommend this to anybody within the area. Cheers Brownstone! -
Review from Ellen C.
Holding true to New York, Brownstone Pizzeria delivers a tasty rendition of something quite close to New York style pizza. A crispy thin crust, a savory robust sauce, and a generous amount of cheese is enough to make each bite a mouthwatering experience. The dough can be charred which can alter the taste a bit. It can also be a tad bit salty, especially after cooling down. Due to the thin crust, it can get soggy quite fast and it would be best to gorge yourself as soon as it's order.
Offering a small selection of beers for those dining-in, service is accompanied by young servers. If you plan to order delivery, plan to wait 45-1 hr 30 minutes.Listed in: Pizza Fanatic

I have been driving past this place for months now and I finally made sure to stop in. My guest and I sat in at one of the tables. I don't really have any complaints about the service, but the pizza itself was quite a bit on the greasy, salty side. The crust was thin, bland and floury. Won't make a habit out of eating here.
*Pro Tip: This restaurant offers pizza by the slice, so try ordering that first. -

Ordered for delivery and had the Pizza Di Parma and the veggie salad. They delivered on time and I really loved the salad and would highly recommend it. The pizza however, was just ok. It was a little too salty for me and I swear there was no actual artichoke hearts on it. Each slice maybe had 2 or 3 artichoke heart leafs, giving the illusion of artichoke. It was pretty ridiculous...I would probably give them another shot and try a different pizza, I just thought the pizza was a bit pricey for what you get. More artichokes please!

Best local place for a NY slice!
I haven't had delivery or carry out,
just the dine in slice or two.
They have have combo specials for slices/drinks/etc,
which makes for a very reasonable lunch spot.
Also great for kids!!
The woman (owner?) that works the counter is very friendly,
and remembers my lil guys name every time!
(we've been stopping by since he was 3... he's 6 now!)
They custom make every pizza/slice, so expect to wait 10 or 15 minutes if you walk in, obviously longer for delivery.
The toppings are always fresh, and it's as close as Cali can get to a NY slice!!
Thin crust, crisp on the outside, floppy in the middle,
perfect amount of sauce/cheese with fresh toppings.
Plus, amazing and caring owners!
This isn't pre-made "fast food", so be patient, and enjoy your wait,
and remember they are making your pizza/slice just for you! -

This OUR pizza delivery place. They always get it right, it is good, the driver is super nice, and time has never been an issue. Unlike one of those chain places that makes plastic tasting pizza and argues with us if we are in the delivery limit. Well no more argument. We call Brownstone- good pizza, good salads!

GREAT thin crust pizza - a rarity on the west coast. Order a pie and take it two doors down to Colorado Wine Company and have it with a bottle of wine. Try the pesto with red onions.

Decent facsimile of NY style pizza. Owner's nice, pizza's good, but the service is impossible to deal with. Call for a pizza at 7:00, they quote you a 30 minute wait, you get there at 7:30 and wait past 8:00 for one or two pizzas. So after several such incidents, I call at 7:00, get a 30 minute quote, show up at 8:00, and I still stand around a half-hour waiting. They've never come within a half-hour of the quoted time, and they're rarely very busy (if that's even a legitimate excuse). They've never apologized, offered a free drink, discount, or even acknowledged that we're standing around for a half-hour or more. Won't go there until they sort out these problems.

Love Brownstone. Order the pizza extra crispy for non-droopy pizza. Also their spaghetti and meatballs is always perfectly al dente. Bertha and the staff are always really friendly. Best part is that you don't have to wait 45 minutes like that other place down the block!

Review from James S.
Well, it's another rave, so there ya go. Pass it on. We were in the area, looking for something exactly like this and, surprise, we scored. Thanks, of course, in part to Yelp.
Great food, nice beverages, fun vibe of the place. The only thing I'd fault Brownstone is: What's with the A/C cranked in December? I'm fairly sure we got the start of some sort of cough as we had wind blowing on us. And staff couldn't do anything about it. (Locked room or something.)
To the pluses, and there are many: The pizza is delicious -- light yet substantial. NY-esque thin crust. Nice House salad to start things off for two adults. And, really, the bonus was when we ordered penne pasta. We wanted to get the sausage and peppers to the side. And that was awesome. I put that on my cheese pizza; I ate it also straight out of the bowl. Still had plenty left to take home where I had a great omelet a day later. Mmm. This sausage/peppers dish reminded me of the Chicago food I love and miss. Also had a side of meatballs, and they were very good.
Top if off that they serve Moretti, plus the prices are reasonable = I want to come back, and soon.
Grazie. -

Aww man, I love finding new pizza places, but I was definitely underwhelmed.
What Brownstone has going on for it is great prices, clean restaurant, pleasant staff. (cheap beer!)
But when it comes to the taste of the food, I was just left feeling "so what" and wishing I went to any of the other billion pizza places in Pasadena or Eagle Rock.
If you're going to blow calories eating pizza, you want to make sure it's going to tickle your pickle. -

Good pizza, good sausage sandwich, fresh ingredients, slow service, and I would walk in and order or eat in since I've tried to order online many times and have been left on hold so opted for the garlicy place on the next block Corner pizzeria for delivery.

This is the best pizza in the Glen-Bur-Rock area, hands down.
Sure, Casa Bianca is great, but they don't deliver and they only take cash and both of those things are a pain in the arse. Plus, more to the pies themselves, Brownstone has them at the crust.
This is a very traditional, thin crust, fold over slices style pizza.
Best combos for me are the meatball and green pepper and the pepperoni and black olive.
The dine in area is nice and quaint, if you want to get the freshest pie possible. However, delivery to the Rossmoyne area of Glendale was exceptionally fast. The pizza was still too hot to eat when it arrived. That is saying something. -

Oh how I wish this really was a 5 star review. I really do miss the authentic taste of New York pizza. The crust here was close to exact, with a minor problem. The crust was a little burnt, I mean I saw black when I lifted my pizza up. But the sauce and toppings were mediocre. HGD, a loyal customer, even said that my first time visit was his lowest satisfaction warranted here. I guess I'll have to come back again.
Pizza tried- ham and mushroom with artichoke on my side. Crust was a little burnt, so I wasn't that big of a fan already. Tomato sauce had a "tin" flavor to it. Had me worried, but the mushroom was delish and artichoke was scarce.
Really, it's a 2.5. Good outcome? I saw a restaurant nearby I want to try next time I'm over here. -

Wow! I ordered here since I like helping out small businesses and thought I'm going to try something different instead of meh tasting Dominos, and turns out the pizza here is delicious and fresh ingredients you can taste , I will definitely be ordering here in the future . I think this is my new favorite for local delivery! try the Chicken Tomato Basil pizza MANGIA!!

This could be a 4 star, just the price is a bit high for a NY pizza.
Got the 3 topping large at over $22.
For the first try got spinach, garlic & jalapenos. Picked it up to go.
A big part of pizza here in LA is wether your pie will still be ok by the time you get home. The crust held up nicely and was not an oily mess.
Disapointment, the jalapenos were canned.
They are a bit like Mama Brick in Pasadena. Pizza Joe's still has the best crust on this side of town. -

Last night, I had the bleeh. But I was hungry. And I had to take the dog for a walk. And I didn't feel like cooking - that's part of feeling bleeh. So I called hubby and told him to get a pizza from Brownstone. We've gotten a pizza from them before once, and I remember enjoying it.
Now I've never been to New York so I have no idea what a NY pizza is like. The only concept I have of a NY pizza is that of John Travolta as Tony Manero on Saturday Night Fever eating a pizza folded in half. But after having pizza from Brownstone, I think it's the closest I can get to a NY pizza.
Both times we've had their pizza have been to-go. The first one was a sausage and pepperoni. I remember seeing the biggest "large" pizza box I've ever seen in my house. The pizza was 20", that's their large. Last night's pizza was sausage, Canadian bacon, and fresh tomatoes - daiiiim! Here's the deal:
Sauce: only pizza sauce I've ever had that's not acidic, just the right amount slathered.
Toppings: very good quality meats, and so tasty, too!
Cheese and Reheating factor: It reheats extremely well. Unlike all pizzas I've had, the cheese does not develop into this weird consistency after it got cold. A definite big toe and thumbs up.
Crust is thin, and I mean thin, like about 1/8 of an inch thin which makes the slice foldable, just like in Saturday Night Fever!
I did get a nice surprise last night. Hubby also got an Antipasto salad. The rabbit in me was very happy indeed. Of all the antipasto salads I've ever had to-go from all the pizza joints, this was the best!
It had a row of sliced mozzarella and tomatoes (caprese), salami, prosciutto, mortadella, pepperoni, provolone, and kalamata olives on a bed of romaine lettuce. The balsamic vinegar was so good that it's been over 24 hours and I'm still tasting and craving it. The whole salad was good that I skipped my second slice of pizza and killed the salad instead. The only improvement they can do IMO is to use less of the romaine's outer leaves. It's just my personal preference, I like the innermost leaves.
When I declared that Brownstone pizza is better than Casa Bianca, hubby quickly shook his head. So I guess we'll be having Casa Bianca soon for comparison purposes... but I don't think I'll be changing my mind about Brownstone! -

Great NY Style Pizza.
They've read reviews about their pizza and I can tell that they've made changes in accordance to the reviews. From day one and until now, the quality of their pizza has only gotten better. -

I'll keep this one short. Best pizza place in Eagle Rock, and my favorite pizza place in the Greater Los Angeles Area. Legend has it they import water from New York to make the dough. The crust is awesome and the pizza equally awesome. Try to eat in so that the pizza is hot.
Handle it. -

I came here Friday night with my ex Lina, her daughter, and her niece.
The place was pretty packed, but luckily we only waited about 2-5 minutes for a table to open up.
We ordered a caprese salad, one cheese pizza (for the kiddos) and one Pizza Suprema (minus the bell peppers, add fresh tomatoes).
The caprese salad was good, nothing extraordinary.
The pizza was very good though! The Suprema was very cheesy, the toppings were very fresh, and the crust was perfectly done! It was so tasty, that it didn't occur to me to ask for ranch or blue cheese to dip the pizza in.
Service was pretty friendly too. I'd say though, get a soda machine (I've never met someone who preferred canned drinks over fountain drinks) and leave the napkins out somewhere, like on each table.
Oh, and it being where it is, parking isn't super easy to find. Plan on parking a couple blocks away. -

I ate lunch here yesterday. The price is right for the lunch specials and it's enough food without giving you the "after lunch sleepies." I had the two slice special and added pepperoni and sausage. The crust is thin and flavorful, reminding me of the best East Coast style pizza I've had, while not besting it. The toppings were generously applied and flavorful without being overly salty; always a risk with Italian meats. While greasy, it was to be expected given my toppings choice. A couple of napkin dabs and some parm took care of that.
All-in-all I can see why my co-workers frequent Brownstone about once a week and I think I'll be joining them again next week. -

Wow my first review!
My wife has been doing this for us for years (yelp reviews)... and I have yet to feel the urge until tonight...Unfortunately, this evening, I suggested Brownstone Pizzeria....and I am so sorry for bringing her here that I feel it is my obligation to share....ummm.....
...Worst service ever!!! (attitude so bad that the food becomes secondary).
At 8:45, ...that is...8:45pm... the staff were slamming trash, turning chairs onto tables, and slinging to-go boxes in our direction (We were so flustered that we dropped half of our pizza on the floor trying to box it)...
I can't even recommend takeout because of the way we were treated...
Too bad, the pizza is actually good...

They have only 2 vegetarian pizza. I tried the one with 5 veggie toping. They said they only make it thin crust. It was thin crust alright, but not as good as some others I've tried. I have to say it's fairly expensive for the size of pizza that was delivered. $17 for medium size pizza is not economical. It was just enough for two people.
The middle portion of the pizza was kinda falling apart as we took the slices out to eat. I've had veggie thin crust pizzas that wasn't falling apart like that.
The minimum for delivery is $20. When we ordered for delivery, it took them 1 hour - but she did say that the delivery person is on lunch break and did warn us that it wil take an hour. The lady on the phone was nice and friendly though. -

Eagle Rock Pizza WARS!!!!
So the Panda insinuated that i was on crack for thinking Brownstone pizza was better than the pizza at Casa Bianca. After defending my honor by refuting crack use allegations I said, " LETS have a pizza challenge to determine a winner!" The parameters of the challenge were established: A 14" pie topped with artichokes, fresh garlic, and tomato.
Casa Bianca's 14 inch pie starts at $11.95 plus $1.95 for each topping totaling $17.80. The toppings are fresh and very generously mounted onto a not so thin, thin crust pizza. The tomato is cubed, there is garlic in every bite and the artichoke is cut in chunks. Its cheesy and loaded with toppings.
Brownstone's has a 3 topping deal for $13.99. 14" of thin crispy crust pizza. The toppings are fresh but not as liberally dispersed and the tomato is cut in slices rather than cubes. It's not as cheesy yet it's filling and good. And considering the price it's a great value. BUT in this match-up AND very much to my chagrin, the clear winner of this pizza challenge is Casa Bianca.
I still give Brownstone Pizzeria 4 stars because the overall quality is good as is the price. But despite winning this round of pizza wars, Casa Bianca will always only get 4 stars because of the cockroach incident.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Service here is awesome! It's a nice quaint pizza place good for families. There are 2 TV for watching games. -

Randsburg, CA
This is the best pizza in the Pasadena area, hands down.
Ever since moving from Northeast NJ to Pasadena, CA three years ago, I was on a quest for pizza that could stand up to my favorites from back home. I got lost amongst a lot of 'gourmet' places specializing in toppings, chain places specializing in speed and uniformity, and various small family-owned Italian places who put mustard and mayo on Italian subs.
Brownstone stands out as a beacon of quality.
Firstly, the dough is just right. Thin and crisp with a tender chewy texture, often charred in parts lending just the right melody of flavors to satisfy the palate. The sauce isn't an afterthought - it is light and tasty, and compliments the pie rather than just being a brick in the wall. The cheese is a mozzarella blend, so it's really only good just out of the oven. But oh, my - when it is!! Reminds me of Patsy's in East Harlem (if you need a big name) and Coppola's in New Providence, NJ (if you don't).
The owners are from New York via Argentina. Not sure how they ended up in Eagle Rock, but I am so happy they did! -
Review from Ms M.
Los Angeles, CA
How do you phrase this...? Brownstone is good pizza for Los Angeles, but in the bigger universe where you remember inspired flavor pairings, awesome ingredients, and home spun funk... well, Brownstone is what only one would hope for an independent pizza that is sticking to the tried and true basics and not taking any risks. Good enough it is.. great? Well, no.
Thin crust with matching toppings- I find it to be oily (not as much as Casa Bianca's) and salty. Our favorite is the meatball pizza. Its a good place to take loud children, as other people with loud children will also be there.
Pet peeves- Owners don't seem to get the NYC vibe. If you call in a pick up order and arrive when they tell you to- you'll wait up to 25 minutes before getting your pie. It seems that they don't put it in the oven until you pay. This defies logic and good business practices, as we've been ordering from them almost every week since they first opened.
Best way of dealing with this is to pay, go next door and grab a bottle of wine at the Colorado Wine Shop. -

Glendale, CA
I must say that i am completely and utterly disappointed with this place. I live in Glendale and it took them, literally, 3 hours to get my order to my doorstep. I gave them my address correctly and I'm sorry but glendale is like 15 minutes max to go from one end to another. I called them back after an hour of waiting and they said that the driver was coming and it will take another 5 minutes but no it took another 2 hours and 5 phone calls til my cold pizza arived at my place.
I talked to the lady who answered the phone and she said she was sorry and would give me a 20% discount for my next order. I was expecting it to be free but no. So i said ok, i'll take that 20% off just in case i try to order there again. The lady said that she will notate that the next time we ordered we would get our discount. Their pizza was ok so i figured it may be worth another try.
Today, i called again and started to order my pizza and as the lady (sounded like the same one as before) told me my total i told her that they promised me a 20% discount. She proceeds to tell me that she can only give me 10% as "the owner is not in today." I just told her to foget it and that i will never go there again.
To make matters worse while i was talking to her she put me on hold for like 5 minutes and didn't get back on the phone until i called back again and everytime she was on the line she was talking to someone in the background.
TRULY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE. -

Excellent Crust. Great Specialty Pizzas.
Came here after reading the Yelp reviews and came away impressed. The crust is thin and crispy, at least thinner and crispy compared to most of the pizza joints like Domenicos, Big Mamas, or Dominos. We ordered the Pizza di Parma which had Prosciutto and artichokes. Pizza was delicious and the two of us finished a 14" pie in one sitting. The deduction of one star was because I thought the red sauce could have been more flavorful. A bottle of Pellegrino paired well. -

Good NY style pie!! The crust is very good. It is pretty pale, which gives an impression of being bland ; but, it's really flavorful! The bottom is nice and crispy, just as a NY Style crust should be, yet still foldable. Sauce is good. Toppings were good. Cheese was good.
Inside the shop, the ambiance is great! Old-school, NY pizzeria action!
Staff- staff was friendly. Answering the phone was about average.....could be better; but, not terrible.
If you like NY pie.....this is a good place. The pizza isn't "right out of NY"...but it's a reasonable facsimile. This is one of my top pics in LA. -

First time i went i got a pepperoni pizza and it was pretty grub... had been craving to go back and just went back last week. Got the pesto garlic somethin pizza .. it literally was sopping wet with oil. I had one slice and felt like i was going to crap myself with all that oil.
Definitely wasn't a fan, but want to go back and try their pepperoni again to make sure it wasn't just a fluke the first ime. -
Review from Chuck A.
.., I love a good pizza pie. Compared to other NY style pizzerias here in CA, to me, Brownstone is up there. Their pizza is super thin but very flavorful. Toppings are always fresh & tasty.
I've had their sausage & pepperoni pizza as well as their pineapple & canadian bacon. Sandwich wise, I've had their Italian sausage hero & that was very good. Chicken Caesar salad is great as well although they use a vinegary caesar dressing. I prefer my caesar dressing thick. Meatballs are delicious & so are their wings. Friendly service & they also deliver.
The prices are slightly above average for certain things, but I don't mind because I like it here. There's tv's inside so you can catch the game, nice little NY theme. They have bottled Blue Moons, New Castles, & other beers on deck too. Come check em' out. -

Los Angeles, CA
We order from Brownstone pretty often, and I'd say 4 out of 5 times we have a positive experience with their almost-as-good-as- NY style pizza. They have some issues with consistency, though. We always order the same thing, but sometimes it is underdone, other times it is burnt to a crisp. Sometimes the toppings are loaded on, other times they are scarce.
I have gotten pretty frustrated with ordering carryout because - as others have mentioned - its never ready when they say it will be. And not like, 5 minutes - I have waited a up to half an hour AFTER they said it would be ready. It's just not cool to waste people's time like that.
But overall, the pizza is good and they are generally pretty friendly. -

My family and I love this place. We eat here regularly. We get the large supreme pizza. We bring our own wine from Colorado Wine Co and pay no cork fee. The staff is very friendly and kind. Sometimes there is karate class next door and the sound and vibrations tend to be more annoying than enduring. But that is forgivable. Lots of kids and families!

The service is really spotty. Sometimes they're great and other times, you're waiting forever for the pizza. For example, i've been on hold for the last 5 minutes waiting to place an order while being forced to listen to that phony "we're looking forward to serving you" plays on the phone. Really irritating, if Casa Bianca delivered pizza we'd be calling them. Hmmm, maybe the Corner Pizzeria is better than this. Going on 9 minutes on hold.

Los Angeles, CA
I wish I could give this place 4 and a half stars, because it's a little better than 4 stars and not quite 5 stars. While the pizza and salads are delicious and much better than Casa Bianca(!), the service here takes them down a half a star. I have called in to order pizza numerous times and I am ALWAYS put on hold for at least 5 minutes. Also, one time I called at noon to order a pizza (they open at noon on the weekends), and no one answered. I called back every 5 minutes after that, and someone finally picked up at 12:15.
I am writing this now as I am on hold with them yet another time.......
