I want to be very careful about writing this, because I read other Yelp posts before trying new businesses, restaurants, etc.  I hope they are honest and fair: I will try do likewise in this review.

First, if it were possible, I would have opted for a 3 and 1/2 star rating, but I have to pick either three or four, so I went for 3.

I purchased my Mazda3 at Brown's after checking out four other dealerships.  Brown's gave me the best price, did so without a lot of haggling, and did so over the phone via their Internet guy/department.  For this, I would give them the full 5-star rating.  Were I to buy another Mazda, I would go nowhere else.  This is their strong suit, IMHO.

I have had my car serviced at Brown's Mazda for the first three years, while it was still under warranty.  I always made an appointment ahead of time.  Compared to my experiences with other dealerships, specifically Subaru and BMW, my waiting time at Brown's was ALWAYS less.  I was VERY pleased on that score.

The only complaint about the service department is, like just about all dealership service departments these days. their schedule of what they suggest you have routinely done on your car does not always accord with the suggested routine maintenance schedule in your Drivers Handbook.

I feel that sometimes they are a just a bit too pushy in this regard.  You should look at your Driver's Handbook, under Maintenance, see what the book calls for, then politely turn down any other services which the dealership may suggest.

In summary, they are good people with whom to do business and I will continue to use their service dept. and, if I get another Mazda, it will definitely be from Brown's

came in today at 10am to service dealer to do alignment 69.99 and change cabin air filter for $85. I think they are overcharged me and I asked to change air filter not the cabin which i changed myself not to long ago. I've waited for TWO hours for nothing. I've overheard there was only ONE service technician today which in my mind not acceptable...I rather go to Tyson's Mazda than this place. very disappointed.

Poor Salesmen I haven't seen any productivity beside sitting at their desk and goofing around like they don't care.

Sold me a lemon a couple years ago but I don't know what happened to the review I posted then.

Cheated my boss recently by lying about the Carfax report to her.  Her telling me about her experience is what prompted to look up my old review.

I would be suspicious about the 5 star ratings I see for Brown's.

    Buyers Beware!!!!

I concur with others statements, I would not trust 5 star ratings.
I would have given 0 stars if possible

    4.11.2012--contacted Brown's to test drive 2007 Mazda 6

4.11.2012--was told that it was in the shop getting serviced, set up test drive

4.13.2012--test drove Mazda with Mike Rafaie.  Interior of car did not look detailed.

4.14.2012--test drove 2009 Mazda 6, interior of car did not look detailed, but was still interested in looking at other cars.

4.14.2012--told Mike that I wanted to test drive a Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.  Test drove 2010 Honda Accord xe l--interior did not look detailed.    Met Dean the manager, and was quoted that the price of the car was $19,260 and they would pay the taxes, fees, and PDI

I looked on Brown's website and the 2010 Honda was listed at $18,879.

4.14.2012--I test drove the 2010 Honda.  The Toyota had sold.  2010 Honda's interior still was not detailed.  When we both sat down with Dean and Mike, the issue of PDI came into play that that would be another $700.  He explained that all the cars have this included in the price.  And broke it down that it was based upon the cars on the lot and the cost to maintain the quality of the cars. $19260 plus $400 taxes, $400 processing fee $700 PDI.

He told us that the car could sell any day because of the price.  The carfax shows that it was offered for sale September 2011 and again in December.  There were receipts for gas dating October and November 2011 in the console of the car.  He explained that the managers sometimes get to drive the cars around until it is sold.  The odometer reading was approximately 2K higher than on the website.

Dean said that the website price was a mistake.  The car should be $19,260 and I misunderstood to whom would be paying the taxes.    I declined.

They lie and cheat you for your money.
They shift blame and don't accept responsibility.
They bate and switch on prices and cars.
Totally irresponsible and illegal to run business in this way.

This review is for their service dept.

Issue: 2004 Mazda vehicle with 70k miles. Just had a P0421 and P0431 (cat failure or O2 failure), the service "advisor" Christian states (while chewing his gum) the car may not be under the 8yr/80k emission warranty b/c the plugs were not done. However, the manual clearly states plugs are to be done at 100k. When I stated this fact, he says my car is under Schedule 2 b/c we are next to a city, now which car is not next to a city? The manual clearly lays out what is mandated schedule 2. 1) short distance driving, 2) extensive low idle, 3) drive in cold or extreme condition, 4) towing a trailer.  I would not place my trust in this service department, to me, they are out to make a dishonest buck.

The sales department was good back in 2005. I had no interactions with them since then.

This review of the service department, that I have been going to since 2005 and yesterday was the last time I placed foot in their door.

    PLEASE AVOID THEIR SERVICE CENTER!

I will list the reasons here:

    1. good customer service ONLY when up-selling you services you DON'T need.

    2. No follow up. If I left my car there and was told it would be ready in approximately two hours and I would receive a call to come pick it up NO follow up call was received. I always had to call and find out the status. This is standard so if you want your car back, keep checking in.

    3. Diagnostics is so incompetently done that a customer is forced to spend more money. None of the problems with my car was diagnosed properly.

For example, my car was making noise, the service department advised me it was a problem with suspension and they are not sure what parts were damaged so they would have to replace several of them to see if that fixes the problem (for the price of over $1200.00). I went to NTB by my house was told that arm controls were damaged and had them replaces for ~ $600.00 (including labor), my Mazda drives just fine now and makes no noise.

Check engine light: Same with the check engine light: no idea what is causing the problem I was told at Fairfax Mazda Service department. Replaced PVC hose, got new battery (which I will come back to later). Check engine light would still come on. Went back to NTB...muffler on my car was broken inside from an accident a couple of years ago and was barely hanging in there. Got the muffler replaced...problem fixed!

Battery: had the battery replaced in December of 2010. April 2011, my car won't start...Battery drained withing 2.5 hours. Called tow truck, paid a royal fee of $150.00. Took it to Brown's Fairfax Mazda as I had the warranty on the battery. Battery checked out no problem...went grocery shopping...car won't start again. Called Brown's again was told that the car was PROBABLY checked out properly. That I could bring the car back (when I already went there earlier that day for diagnostic). Called another tow truck, waited for it for two hours in the rain, paid another $100.00, took it to NTB...THE BATTERY WIRE WAS NOT TIGHTENED! So proper diagnostic in Brown's Fairfax Mazda apparently doesn't include checking connections on the battery.

Absolutely incompetent team of service men who are only interested in up-selling unnecessary services and repairs and making money.

Absolutely incompetent team of mechanics who cannot diagnose the problem or get the repairs done properly.

PLEASE AVOID GETTING YOUR CAR REPAIRED HERE if you value your time, money and the quality of the work and don't want to come back at least three times to get the issue fixed.

I've been a loyal customer for six years at this place, but these incidents were the last straw and I will never be returning there.

The review is only in regard to their auto body shop. I don't know anything about their auto sales.

If you like rolling the dice, then go here. Hope you don't roll craps like I did.

I bought my 3 at Brown's in January 2010, and I will trust only the Brown's service department team for maintenance and repairs. They offer fast, friendly, professional service at a fair price.

This is the WORST Mazda dealership ever!!! They "did" a 30000 mile check up and charged me for it but in reality did none of what I paid for...I ended up paying for the service twice to just get it done! This dealer ship has been nothing but rude and caused so much trouble! Do not go here!

We bought an SUV there and had great service and a really competitive price.  We contacted 9 other Mazda dealerships in the VA/DC/MD area and none could match the price.  The only down side about them is that the loan officer tried to tack on an extra charge for delivery that the sales manager included in the price.  As soon as we pointed it out, the loan officer immediately took it off, but I couldn't help but be suspicious that he "accidentally" left that charge on. --  I haven't taken my car to be serviced there, so I don't know anything about the service department.

They're great if you're buying a car (who would have thought??? =P)... But if you're using their body shop or service center... Good luck. It's incredibly hit or miss. Sometimes you're in and out within an hour, other times you wait three hours. Most times it's been more towards the three- even when you wait there. The people aren't especially friendly or helpful. They talk to you like you have no idea what's going on. I don't get my car serviced here anymore.

My family is on our second Mazda from this location and we coulnd't be happier with the level of personalized care that we received from the initial purchase to scheduled maintenance and repairs.  The team at Brown's really has their stuff together and it never feels like sharks circling when you enter the building nor do they treat you dismissively in the repair department.  In every case they take the time to answer all your questions to your satisfaction; something rarely experienced in my past.  I would recommend Brown's Fairfax Mazda for your first, next, and every vehicle purchase and their staff to keep your vehicle running worry free.  Perhaps hyperbolic to some, but this has honestly been my experience thus far and they have earned the 5 star rating I gave them.  :-)
