Miami, FL
To say I was in need of a pedicure would be the understatement of the year. I was way overdue. I wanted a nice place, where I could communicate with the aesthetician (sp?) in English. I chose Brownes and Co because I hadn't been to the Design District outpost before, it was close, it was nice and I needed a break. I had read the reviews on Yelp, some good, some not so good, but decided to check it out for myself. I have to say, it was great.
The place is like beauty product heaven. I walked in amongst the products and someone greeted me from the front desk. I was about 20 minutes early and said I would wait or get something else done if they had any personnel available. They didn't so I waited. The desk staff brought me something to drink and I checked out all the products. The only negative I can say is that there was a woman on her cell phone talking away post pedicure. I felt that was intrusive and rude. But, not Brownes fault.
The pedicure started on time, was thorough, pleasant and efficient. I enjoyed the experience. I would go again. The woman who did my pedicure was very nice, quiet and committed to her job. It was about $40 which is way more than you'd pay in one of those quickie places, but it was worth it. If you're serious about a good pedicure, and don't have two hours to kill, this is the place for you. I'll be back. Thanks... -

I am sooooo disappointed with this place. The first time I went (January 2012), I have an average experience. I had a blow dry, mani & pedi. However, the fact that I made the appointment last minute ON A SATURDAY and finding the place pretty much empty (only one other customer), seems odd. So I left with a 6/10 rate for this place, but I decided to give it a second try. First time blow dry charge was $40, mani $20 and pedi $40.
On my second try, I had the same: blow dry and mani (skipped the pedi). It was again, on a Saturday, and there were only 3 customers in there (ODD). Anyhow, I had my mani and blow dry performed at the same time, but the lady who was giving me the blow dry, OMG, how rude that lady was. She even asked for a chair so she can sit down as she was doing my hair (horrible). Plus, as she was doing my hair, I noticed the careless attitude on making things right! She suddenly stopped blowing my hair and started cleaning, I asked her "are you done?" she said "yes you are thank you" ... when I looked myself on the mirror, OMG... my hair, .. it was HORRIBLE!!! all dry, it looked terrible, THE WORST BLOW DRY I HAVE EVER HAD, and that includes myself drying my own hair. Terrible!!!!!!
I had my mani done, and everything OK, but when I went to pay, the receptionist charged me: BLOW DRY $50!!!! and MANI $40!!!!! PLUS $50 for a powder I cannot believe they over charged me for all these things!!! When I asked the receptionist why the powder was to pricey, she gave a super lame excuse saying that customers come in there just for that powder... yeah, a T Lecrec powder that I couldve got at Macy's... seriously, ridiculous.
This is the first review I make on a Beauty Salon since even though, Ive been on pretty much all the salons in Miami, this is by far the worst of all!!!! This is probably the reason they had to close their salon at Lincoln Rd, and by the amount of customers I saw on both Saturdays, I don't think this business is going to stay longer.. PS: I am posting this on my Twitter (8K followers) and Facebook (1K friends) word of mouth baby. -

SOMETIMES, YOU JUST DON'T GET IT. Customer service, I mean.
I checked out Brownes on Yelp before I pulled the trigger on a http://livingsocial.com coupon deal for 53% off ($35) Dr. Hauschka's Rose Mani/Pedi + Herbal Foot Bath. Although there were some low ratings, some of my most trusted Yelp friends assigned 4 stars, so I went for it.
When I showed up for my appointment, there were 4 employees sitting in the back of the store. No customers. I walked all the way to the back before anyone so much as stood up. A guy asked if I had an appointment, and when I said "yes" and gave my name, he wrinkled his nose and said, "You're early." As if, they couldn't possibly accommodate me before my appointed time?!
So they let me pick my polish, and I'm introduced to my nail tech who speaks almost no English. She gives me a disparaging look and says, "No hab flip flop?" The only reason I chose the Design District location over the Beach is that it's on the way home. I was coming straight from the office, so of course, I was wearing close-toed shoes.
I sit down and I'm offered a beverage.
Me: Do you have wine?
Her: jes. Red or white?
Me: White, please.
Her: *Yells over her should for white wine. Gets a negative reply.* No habee.
Me: Red's ok
Her: *Yells over her should for red wine.*
Her Co-worker: Cafe?
Her: Jes. I so tired. *Yawns* *stretches* *sits down*
Me: *fighting the urge to say, "Are you okay?"*
Her: *co-worker brings coffee for her; nothing for me*
Her: *drinks her coffee*
Me: *parched*
About 5 minutes later, I get my wine, and yes, this review has already been written in my head. Truth be told, the mani/pedi was just fine-- about what I would expect for $35. The Dr. Hauschka's products were nice. However, if I'd paid full price for this service? Um, nevermind, that could never possibly happen. There is absolutely nothing about this salon that says "$40 and up." Sorry.Listed in: Online Discount Deals

I'm a disappointed of this visit. I feel like I wasted my Couptessa coupon.
I wanted to cut a little bit my hair and to dye it. First I was told, that "they didn't have time to dye my hair due to another appointment". - BTW, it was a guy that spent most of his time on the phone outside.- That I can understand, after all I wasn't sure when I booked the appointment that I wanted to do that. But once I got there, I decided I wanted to dye my hair and I couldn't. Then I wanted to get bangs, I was told no because it wasn't appropriate for my face. I respect their opinion, but if that's what I want, why shouldn't I get that?
I knew that I had to pay extra to get my hair done. Having the coupon didn't mean that I wasn't able to pay. I just wanted to try the place and see if I liked it.
I think they noticed I wasn't pleased and "threw in" a manicure - the lady that did the mani did a great job. I won't be visiting the place. A shame because it is super close to my work place. :-( -

Customer service can be a it or miss. If you are able to get past that, my lovely girlfriend and I went in for manicures and pedicures today. The spa offers a great variety of services and is reasonably priced. The cashier that was there today was courteous and all the ladies were professional and worked hard. The salon needs to kick up their marketing strategy since it was dead on a Saturday early afternoon. Get rid of the owner, freshen things up a bit and you won't believe how much more money you will make... word of mouth bites small businesses in the ass.

I am one of the friends mentioned on Olema L's review, dated 9/26. After Olema posted the review she received, in my opinion, a VERY UNPROFESSIONAL message from the Owner, Nikki. I was not going to write a review about my experience, but after reading her message I felt it was necessary
My message to Nikki, the Owner: For you to say that the tip left was "shabby" is just rude! FYI, you pay tip on the service you are provided with (tips are at the discretion of the customer). Even a restaurant doesn't have a right "to come after anyone" for leaving a $5 tip! The service may be priced at $96, but that is NOT what we paid for the service. We bought the Groupon at a discounted price for $40 (manicure/pedicure/eyebrow wax). Nowhere on the Groupon certificate does it say that the "service is actually priced at $96 and that is what you are supposed to tip on", as you stated on the message.
As mentioned on your message, we did bring 2 kids to the spa; however, that should not make any difference to anyone. The smallest one was sleeping most of the time and the little girl, I quote your message, did get a "a little quick polish" that your Receptionist Tatiana was trying to charge $15 for! My friend was kind enough to pay her $10 for the "quick little polish". Again, nowhere on your website or the groupon certificate does it say "NO KIDS ALLOWED"
You are the owner, so I understand why you feel our review is "really unfair", but we are entitled to our opinion and that's what this website is for to allow customers to write reviews and recommendations. Your spa unfortunately is NOT a place we would recommend
I would also HIGHLY suggest that you take some Customer Service classes, I've never read such a rude and unprofessional message from the Owner of a company. Even a fast food restaurant employee knows to make every effort to make the customers next experience a better one... Your message unfortunately just made the whole situation WORST! -

It was my birthday weekend- of course I want to pamper it up. I had a gift certificate so I figured I would use it and spend a lil extra for a fabulous mani-pedi. For $70 I was expecting the works, but what I received instead was sheer disappointment.
Perhaps it was the women who took care of me, but she was god awful. She barely cut my cuticles, she just slapped on the nail polish. It's not smooth at all- its all bumpy and sloppy ( I could have done a better job myself)
The massage was pathetic and short.
It took them FOREVER to offer me something to drink- at one point I thought they never would...
They use good products, but I could care less about the products if they don't do a good job.
I have had way better mani-pedi with great massages, hot towel wraps that last a long time and look great- for A LOT less!
The ambiance is really nice and peaceful, which I enjoyed.
This was my 2nd time coming here- and defiantly my last.
Sorry Brownes & Co - you're not worth it- I'll stick with the Asians! -
Review from Arwen L.
I purchased a Dr Hauschka mani/pedi on Living Social Miami for $35. For $35, yes this mani/pedi was good. But...was it great? Not so much. The glass of wine and glass of water was a nice touch but isn't something out of this world I wouldn't have received at another salon.
The quality of the products may be higher than your average salon where value products are used and the facility itself was clearly in impeccable condition. So if that is what you are paying for at the regular $70+ for both mani/pedi and that is what your expectations are, then you will be satisfied.
However, the nail technician working on me actually missed a whole side of one of my toe nails and didn't give me the stellar kind of manicure that I have had (believe it or not) in a garage from a lady who has been working out of her home for 30 years!
I also think it is important to add that I went with a friend of mine. Her experience was virtually ruined before we even sat down as we chose to pay in advance to avoid ruining our nails rummaging for our wallets later on.
While people may share individual opinions of what is appropriate gratuity, it is still ultimately the customer's choice of what they think is an appropriate tip. My friend felt she was tipping an appropriate amount based on the service. The young woman working the cash register told her she was, however, not leaving enough tip. Yes, the Browne's employee actually urged her to tip more because the tip is for the original cost of the service not to Social Miami coupon rate. I get that. However, my friend is a professional who I assure you has class and is well-educated in the realm of appropriate tipping. If she felt what she was offering was enough that is where it should have ended. However, the woman at the register pushed her again. She ultimately did not say anything to me when I paid as she clearly realized that it was HER faux pas as the service provider to behave so crass.
Talk about leaving a bitter taste in your mouth.
Anyway, I have seen and had all kinds of mani/pedis for more than 15 years (did I really just date myself?) and while, yes the ambiance is nice, I go for a mani/pedi to walk out of there looking great...I'll pass on the wine and fluff, if it means I can get nails filed straight and have a clean look on the way out. -
Review from Jaclyn G.
So I kinda, sorta cheated on my eyebrow lady...sigh.
Ladies, you *know* how this story goes. It's almost an LTR we have with our beauticians...and they KNOW when we've strayed. It's alot like finding a g-string in your boyfriend's backseat when you know damn well that your ass hasn't seen a that kind of undergarment since you first started dating (besides, he TOLD you that boyshorts were way sexier - friggin' liar).
Anywho, I took the risk of being caught because Groupon had a deal I just couldn't pass up. $40 for a mani/pedi/eyebrow shaping at Brownes & Co. - who in their right mind could resist?!? It's like it was right there just BEGGING me to cheat....I was powerless. Helpless, even.
I booked my appointment for a Thursday after work. Located in a little store front in the Design District, I snagged a spot right in front of the shop - street parking is plentiful and a snap to find.
The space is on the small size, but it's bright, cozy, uncluttered and extremely welcoming. The waxing/facial room is a little haven of peace and serenity with it's blue walls and dimmed starlight lighting. As for the eyebrow waxing itself? I can't believe I'm about to actually say this, but there was zero pain! None! Non-existent! For a second I actually questioned if any hair had been pulled at all...but indeed, a neatly shaped, perfectly groomed brow emerged from the aesthetician's hands (I believe her name was Karina...I wish I remembered because I would love to book the always frightening Brazilian with her). She was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable...one of the best waxes I've had in *years*.
My mani/pedi was equally as incredible...perfect technique and application of polish. Every manicure I've had makes my cuticles peel and shred after a day, but I can safely say there has been NONE of that this go-round. I'm in awe at how gorgeous, soft and shiny my nails look. The soft cushions and couch area made the experience all the more comfortable.
The only reason I'm holding back a 5 star rating is because of the prices. After looking at their price menu, I realized that with my Groupon I score one helluva deal...without it? Yikes. $70 for a mani/pedi? Gulp. Probably not anytime soon. The waxes were a bit more reasonable - in fact, I may have to break up with my eyebrow lady and move on to greener and uhhh...grazed pastures.
This little outpost of the Lincoln Road establishment does it's big sister proud. Wonderful experience...am already planning my next dalliance.Listed in: Places To Get Your Hurr and…

Ridgecrest, CA
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! Do not waste your time going here. Overpriced and terrible service.
Even after I read all the bad reviews I still wanted to give this place a try. I made a reservation before I left California to have my hair blow dried and flat ironed straight. This is a simple procedure that I have had done all over the United States for over 15 years without any problem.
First of all the stylist was half an hour late getting to me. Then when she looked at my hair and told me she had no idea how to blow dry "my kind of hair" She told me she would need over two hours to do my hair and asked that I come back in another three hours.
She told me I should try and maybe go check out another salon across the street. Well, I demanded that my hair be worked on after I had spent 30 minuted driving down there and was only in town for 4 days. She finally decided that she would work on my hair.
She spent the entire time complaining that she is only used to working with already relaxed or straight hair. She spent a big part of the time basically insulting my hair. When I suggested that maybe she just stop and I would go find some place else to do my hair, she insisted that I let here continue and let her try.
Well three hours later my hair was a big FREAKING MESS!!!. My hair was as hard as a brillo pad, sticky from this crap she put in my hair. My hair was lifeless and just a big mess. I was horrified. The only reason I paid for this service was because she kept telling me how she needed the money.
After I walked downstairs to the apothecary the owner came down and asked me what happend. So I explained. He told me he was going to get someone to come and do my hair over for me before I left Miami. Well as some as I got back to my hotel I got a message that he could not find any one to come in. Yeah ok, whatever.
Also, before I let the salon, I tried to purchase some cosmetics, the young lady that was working attempted to assist me with some cosmetics but ALL five items I wanted were out of stock.
I then went over to ask an older guy working there about his opinion on some of the shades of foundation, he quickly told me he had no idea about the cosmetics and that I should come back at 4pm when there might be someone that could help me.
So there you go folks. This was the most miserable experience I have EVER had at a professional salon. These people need to just close up for business and find new line of business to be in.
P.S. The two ladies at the front desk were pleasant and gave me a nice cup of tea. -

Brownes now does the Design District. The new locale is a little smaller, a little cuter and a little closer to those of us who don't live on the Beach. Offering up manis, pedis, waxing and an apothecary full of products, it's a little sister to its big sister on Lincoln Road.
I went early in the morning, found a parking spot easily, had a manicurist from the other location (no new folks, just a rotating shift of the ones you've grown to love) and was on my merry way in an hour.
I'm personally thrilled about the new locale. Yes, they still charge and arm and a leg for a mani/pedi, but when it's this close to home, it's totally worth it.Listed in: Me First!

I had high hopes for the salon, after speaking to a helpful and chipper receptionist but I left the place very, very annoyed. I'll probably never stop by this place unless I'm in a huge squeeze for time (like today). To my waxer's credit, she was nice and calm. But at the end of the day, you gotta make sure the job is done. I had to ask multiple times for her to go back and clean up any hairs that she had left. This should not have to be a request, especially at a nice salon like Brownes. UGH. uber frustration.
I wandered downstairs to check out their wares, and had to summon an unhelpful sales boy to ask a few questions about a sunscreen. I understand if there aren't any testers for products, but his resistance to even open a bottle was strike number 2.
Brownes, I hope this was an off day. Your vibe and location are so great, but you left me in a very un-zen like mood. -

Great place with not so great prices!!!
I went for a no frills pedicure and an eyebrow threading and walked out paying $70 + tips. UGH!!! I am used to paying $30 for a magnificent pedi with lots of color choices. I paid $40 for crap!!!This place had pinks and reds, some browns and purples. Boring!!! And the paint job was not that great.
The lady that threaded my eyebrows did an amazing job. But $30 for a threading. I have never paid over $10 in my life. Not even in Cali!!! -

After going once to the Design District and Lincoln Road locations on groupons, my conclusion is that they can do a decent mani and pedi - although nothing special, the massage was outstanding - although that was more about the masseuse than the place, their eyebrow wax was terrible - I broke out the next day and their service is average at best. I appreciate their attempt to do things online, however I found that it took me five attempts to book two appts with groupons and only after sending some email complaints. Not sure if I'd go back for any services, however their Beauty product selection was quite varied and unique, but there is really no one to help you if you have any Qs about them.

Although considerably smaller than the South Beach location this new DD Brownes is a welcome to the neighborhood.
Still a good place to pick up make-up or beauty products or just get a mani, pedi, or your eyebrows done.
Parking is a cinch especially on Saturdays.
Although not as busy as the Lincoln Road original call ahead and schedule an appointment as space and technicians are limited.Listed in: South Beach Spots, Lincoln Road Livin, Get Yo GLAM on, Salons in Miami

Review from Ashley M.
This is the first "upscale" salon that I have been to in Miami for nails and waxing, so I may be a bit jaded. The salon was much smaller than I expected, but it is artfully decorated.
It is right on 2nd Ave in the heart of the design district, a great location especially since it is only a five minute drive from my house. Parking is easy and cheap, just a couple of dollars will grant you a few hours on the meters. Make sure to pay, though. I watched another patron at the salon run out in the middle of her pedicure because her car was being ticketed.
There is a small area in the front offering makeup and other spa items for sale. I have heard that the location on Lincoln Road is huge for these types of items, but they have a few items here for purchase.
The service overall was 4 stars - the waxing specialist (Sue) gave amazing service, definitely 5 stars. The nail technicians took a while to warm up to me, and I would have given them 3 stars except they were quite friendly towards the end.
I made the appointment a few days in advance on their website. The receptionist called back within a couple of hours to confirm the appointment. I received a call the day before confirming, and then a call about five hours before my appointment asking if I could come an hour earlier. I told her that I would try as hard as I could.
I ended up arriving about an hour and fifteen minutes early for the appointment. They were very nice and started my waxing right away. After Sue was done, I waited just a minute to start my nails and pedicure. As I mentioned before the technician who did my gel nails was a bit aloof at first. She kept checking her watch as if I was late or that she had something better to do. It made me a little angry at first, because I came over an hour early for my appointment at their request, yet she still seemed to be rushing through my appointment.
Once she calmed down (about half-way through the appointment), she was very nice and redeemed herself. The pedicure technician was also very nice - they both did a wonderful job on my nails. I don't know their names, as neither introduced themselves to me, though.
Overall, this salon is quite pricey (the prices are listed on their website http://www.brownesbeau...) but a good treat when you feel like being pampered. -

I was stunned when I got the bill for my bikini wax....$26!! As a NYer I was expecting $75+ so you can imagine my excitement. This is def my new go-to place for bikini waxes. The manis and pedis on the other hand are regularly priced. When I went the day after Thanksgiving, I saw Uli, the fashion designer from Project Runway from a few years ago and I said hello. Was pretty cool:) The staff doing my nails were very sweet but I also think you need to know who to ask for (I went with a regular and she hooked us up with her favorite girls to do our nails).

Despite the fact that my friend had a horrible experience here, the manicurist that I got was great! The foot massage was relaxing and she did a nice job shaping my nails. Although the mani/pedi was waaaaay more than I'd EVER pay in Chicago ($60!), I figured that everything in South Beach is overpriced anyway.
I also got a facial from a woman who kept talking about how she hated cold weather and felt bad that I was from Chicago. I got an add-on treatment for underneath the eyes. I felt pretty relaxed afterwards. Afterwards, you're led into a 'waiting area' where you can sip tea, hang out, and relax.
The staff was semi-friendly. I think I'll try another spa next time I'm here.

I was initially attracted to the store display. http://static.px.yelp....
I thought a funky place like that needed a funky person like me to visit! I had no idea it was actually an "apothecary." I saw these lotions and potions to test. Hm, what part of my arms haven't I lotioned up yet?
Then of course, I saw my beloved NARS section but no one was around. Actually, there seemed to be only one counter guy and he never acknowledged us not that he looked particularly busy. He did his best to avoid all eye contact.
I started testing perfumes and even though no glimmer of trying to make a sale.
Well, I suppose I don't need to give my business to such nonchalance.Listed in: Miami Heat

The salon is located in the Miami design district, which makes it a little hard to find if you're not familiar with the area. I scheduled an appointment for me and my two friends after buying a $40 discounted service package from http://Groupon.com (manicure/pedicure/eyebrow wax). To make a long story short, this salon is extremely over priced. My friends and I had to wait a while for our turn even though we had an appointment and were told we would all be done at the same time.
The technician who worked on my manicure/pedicure did not say a word to me the entire time, I don't even think she looked at me or said hello when I sat on the chair. Her hand and foot massage were very poor. I do have to say that the technician who shaped my eyebrows was wonderful. She was very detailed and did a great job all around. When it was time to pay (we only had to pay the tip because we bought the certificate from http://Groupon.com) the hostess gave me a hard time about how much I was going to tip. I made the mistake of giving her my tip money as I thought she would just pass the money along to the techs. Boy was I wrong! She held the money in her hand and literally asked me "is this how much you're going to tip". I'm not cheap, but I thought tipping was based on the service you received and the price you paid for the service. Anyhow, she rolled her eyes at me when I responded, "yes, that is correct, that is how much I will be tipping".
Not so good experience, except for the eyebrow tech. -

This morning I had my best facial with a lady named Catherine at Brownes in the DD. The room is very cozy and relaxing, and Catherine was very sweet, and proffesional, she used some great products, and did a great job with the extractions, it didn't hurt as much as a lot of places I have been. She used wonderful products such as Yonka.. and she gave me a relaxing scalp and footsy massage. She takes her time and is very thorough. I will def be going back and seriously dont think twice about getting a facial by her.. just do it!!!
I love the smaller version of Brownes.. -

Nikki, the salon owner, has taken to privately messaging and publicly commenting on everyone's reviews, so I feel the need to update my review. Because I would not give Nikki my last name, she has commented that I'm a liar. Unfortunately, Nikki, I'm telling the truth... and I hope my private message to you regarding the technicians/stylists/colorists/etc that I have seen helps you in some way. I really hope you start spending less time harassing former clients on Yelp and spend more time improving your salon.

Do not go to this spa. I went for the deluxe mani/pedi with my friend and the women who work there spend more time gossiping in Spanish than working on your nails. I was supposed to receive an extended foot massage instead I got a weak foot rub. I also got a facial and they scarred my face. I am still trying to get my money back but the owner does not communicate over the phone just by email. She does not even have enough respect for her customers to use proper grammar or punctuation.

Sure, manicures and pedicures are pricey here (60 bucks a pop!) but it's well worth it. For the past 6 years, I've been a Brownes buff and here's why: their manucurists rock (ask for Mercy or Diana), it's clean, ice tea is free, and did I mention the chairs are uber soft and comfy?? 'Nuff said.

Brownes used to be my go-to for eyebrows when I moved back to Miami from DC. Unfortunately, after having my son, my trips there have been few and far between but I still pink, puffy, glitter heart Brownes and everytime I go there, I'm reminded why...
PRODUCTS: They are one of the only places in Miami that carry Skinceuticals which became my new favorite line after visiting their spa last summer. I had had a horrible experience using Dr. Haushkca products and my face had broken out horribly. The facialist, gave me an awesome facial and recommeded using Skinceutical's clay masque which they sold downstairs. I was a believer after my skin cleared up within the week. They carry more of the "obscurer" lines that Sephora etc don't carry, i.e. Molton Brown, the ENTIRE Bumble and Bumble hair care line, the Art of Shaving for men as well as Jurlique and of course, Skinceuticals.
CUSTOMER SERVICE: I've been here many, many times throughout the last 8 years and have yet to have a negative customer service experience. Employees will help you if you need it, but don't hover, which I appreciate, since I love to just open, try, smell and read all on my own. Last summer we had a mini baby shower for my cousin here and they set up a table with a cute table cloth for us and they didn't mind that we brought our own cupcakes, champagne and juices. They were very accomodating to our large group and everyone had a great experience with their masseuses, facialists and nail techs.
If anything I would take away one star for the prices (of the products, not the services which are on par with anything else in Miami) but honestly, I just love this place so much, I'll pay. :) -

Went back but this time to the beach to have my color done for my birthday. They did a perfect color correction and loved the end result. Price was perfect and cheaper then Aveda. Look forward to going again.

Awesome store for everything beauty product related! I haven't had the pleasure of experiencing their yoga studio or spa salon, but the store itself is worth a trip. I LOVE products - a total Product Junkie! So this store has everything to satisfy the cravings of a product junkie, including travel/sample sizes (for purchase)! :) It's pricey (hence the 3 stars), definitely doesn't fit into my every day price range, however a perfect place for a special treat!

Browne's Apothecary is a premium beauty shop that's chock-filled with products that you won't be able to find in most places, even at Sephora (which I love, love, love. There's one at Collins/6th). Browne's Apothecary shop was on Lincoln Road before the big chains, Gap, Pottery Barn, and Banana Republic homogenized the strip--so its character shines through. The place is a quiet, cool refuge from the Miami heat and you can spend time looking over the luxe products, lets name drop here: Aveda, Bumble & Bumble, Molton Brown, etc. etc. in a low-sales-pressure environment. They kinda leave you alone here to browse which I like. Alot of its specialized products tend to specialize with skincare/bath/haircare with testers around. There are brand names and obscure ones.
Still, for make up, I would go to Sephora.
Upstairs, Brown's also has a day spa and hair salon (Some Like It Hot is its name). It's actually the ONLY place you can get a mani/pedi on Lincoln Rd. Also listed are day spa service and yoga lessons. Prices are posted on their website. -

We walked in here while taking a stroll down Lincoln after lunching. We did not make it to the spa or yoga studio, so this is only for the apothocary. The selection that they have is amazingly diverse, if expensive. There was a plethora of products I have never heard of before. These ranged after shave lotions and gels to candles to make up and costmetics and cologne and perfume. If you want to impress a date with looking and smelling good, this is definitely the place. Be prepared to drop down at least a few Jackson's while shopping here.

I like walking in here to peruse the walls of products. I don't really ever buy anything. I just usually try the samples and sniff sniff.
I do like to come here during the holidays to buy gifts. They have an elaborate bagging of the gift that makes it look chic and expensive. Much better than the cheap-o gift wrapping paper I would use at home. -

Brownes was the first place in South Beach that I fell in love with. I had a hard time finding a lot of products that I use in Miami and they carry my favorite lines, Jurlique and Ren, as well as my favorite candles Diptyque. But what makes Brownes a great place is that they offer pedicures that last a month and yoga classes taught by experienced instructors. This gem was the last thing I expected to find on Lincoln Road, but I'm glad I did.

ELIZABETH... Hair Stylist... Ah-Mazing! At first I was hesitant...thinking this girl's too young.. how many years of experience could she possibly have under her apron? ...but then... I walked out praising her for doing such a quick & beautiful job on my hair! I wish I could've brought her back to Cali with me... I'll need my roots touched up!
She wrote down the exact formula and procedure for me on a business card... so I can take it to someone in California. Now that was above & beyone her call of duty! THANK YOU ELIZABETH! I hope your good karma comes back to you soon.
My friend loved her bikini wax...said the woman was excellent & very professional. We couldn't get manis or pedis, since they were all booked... but we both walked out beyond happy!! -

Came to Brownes' yesterday in hopes of getting some make up. When I walked into this tiny shop, I instantly took in the sweet aroma of Patchouli or maybe it was Chamomile...I'm not sure. Whatever it was it made me want to linger and peruse through the shelves. Rows of candles, skin products like Dr. Hauschka and my favorite MD Skincare were lined up, an itty bitty section for make up and some perfume. Shopping for make up here stinks! They have zilch of the brands I use and in fact, all I noticed was lip glosses. I feel like the Lincoln Road location has a bigger variety. And lastly, whoever was working the floor that day needs to stop sampling all the BOND 9 perfumes by the cash register and at least acknowledge when clients walk in, smile and say hello. She just stared at me with a blank expression that carried just a note of arrogance and went back to spraying herself. Stuck up salespeople make me laugh which is exactly what I did in my head. Will I be back? Unless, I'm in the area and desperately need my MD Skincare liquid moisturizer other than that....Heck no...Maybe the beach location, but I rather take my biz to corporate run Sephora and Ulta.

I had a good experience at their Lincoln Road location; I was in a rush so couldn't go to my regular salon so used this in a fill in. The staff was friendly and the gentleman that did my hair was great. He asked all the right questions, really listened to me and was super nice. It was very quiet compared to times I've come before. But after watching Tabitha's Salon Takeover I understand why. The price was a little higher than off the beach but I live here and it's a fact of life; plus the convenience makes it worth it. But I didn't feel like I was ripped off by what I received. While I hesitate to put a penny in the rude owner's pocket, the staff was great and did a good job so why punish them.

this is a neutral review ... i couldn't give it a solid 5 star even though i wanted to because i haven't really experienced the whole works...
if anything, this is a girl's secret getaway... one stop to everything.
the main floor is a make up store, not flashy and crazy like sephora, more mellow... the 2nd floor has a lounge for those who like to gab, and if you make it up a few more steps, you will be in Heaven.
*hair salon (check)
*mani // pedi salon (check)
*yoga studio (check)
*day spa for your body and face (check)
can it get any more better than this? nah really.
i swear, if you were just aimlessly walking down lincoln, you will for surely pass by this place. don't be fooled ... pay attention..
planning a trip? you a planner like i am? well, do yourself a favor, and book an appointment online! -

I have been to Brownes on the beach on two separate occasions now, once for color and once for a facial. I was generally satisfied but not overjoyed with my treatments. While I usually build a rapport with a hairdresser or esthetician, I feel absolutely no desire to see any of the employees again. The customer experience is unremarkable at best. In fact, the receptionist had such a poor attitude I felt like walking out before I even got started. I have had contact with several Brownes receptionists in person and over the phone -each time I found myself feeling as if I were a nuisance- as if my patronage was an inconvenience and my presence was merely tolerated. I arrived early for my facial in hopes of using the spa facilities which frankly don't exist. There is no sauna, steam room or formal locker room so I recommend showing up exactly at your appointment time. I'm accustomed to paying similar prices for my services but usually a little customer service is included.
