I love this place, the owners are very friendly and I always have a great experience when I go. They have great specialty cupcakes ( Muscato, Limoncello, Maple Bacon, Blue Hawaiian, Pink Lemonade, Sweet Potato Blondies, Oreo Pie, Strawberry tarts) The list goes on, there is a catch though...they close @ 6 so if you're showing up at 5:45 looking for the specialties you will be disappointed. (Especially when they tweet a BOGO) I've arrived 10 minutes after a BOGO post and they were wiped out. But one thing you can be assured of you'll never get a day old anything!!!
First, they announce their daily fare on facebook if you're not a fan & don't get there early the good stuff WILL BE GONE. Second, they also cater also which means they must make executive decsions on quantities for the store vs. the catering jobs. I've left without what I REALLY wanted I cannot always make it in time because I work two jobs , flip side same coin, they do have scheduled dates on the weekends to give the opportunity for those of us who can't always make it during the week to get the specialties.
Not everyday is a perfect day for any of us. And if you're a cook then you know it is an art that has its good days and bad days. And I find more days of good than bad. Ultimately its your decison where you spend your dollars... but dollars to donuts... I'll take Brown Sugar Bakeshop. -

We showed up shortly before closing and basically had to pick from the last little bit that was left. What we got was good, if not great (though, really, now that the cupcake market is saturated, can we all just admit that a literally great cupcake is a rare entity?). Service was a little frumpy, but that could've been because it was the end of a long day and we were probably delaying last minute cleaning.

Best cupcake place so far in Little Rock that I've tried. I got the strawberry, chocolate chip, and Oreo cookies & cream. The cupcakes were not AS moist as i preferred, but it was pretty good. It survived many hours in the car! I felt the frosting was a tab bit too sweet. I think I could just wipe off a layer of frosting so it would have an equal amount of sweet and cake. I did pop it in the microwave for a few seconds to make everything soft after the long car ride. I will definitely go back and try different flavors! I wish they had some cool/different flavors on the day I went! I can only go on the weekends.
Although I would like to note, I went a few weeks ago one weekend a FEW minutes before closing, and the door was locked. I saw people inside, but it seemed that they were packing up. Now I understand it's a Saturday and the store closes at 5pm. But I arrived before 5pm, and the door was closed. I was very upset! I almost didn't want to bring my business there, but I love cupcakes so much I wanted to give the bakery another change.
It is a very small shop, so it can be difficult to spot. Driver's beware!!! The staff were very friendly though and I didn't think the cupcakes were too overpriced. -

It's located a few blocks away from the river market, got lucky and found a parking spot right in front, still had 20 min left on the meter even.
Didn't have much of a selection, ended up getting 4 cupcakes, strawberry, peanutbutter, vanilla, and chocolate to take home, however, they didn't survive the trip, got mushed together despite I took extra care with the box. They were way too dry and frosting was too sweet.
I also bought 2 peanut butter, and 2 chocolate chip cookies, the peanut butter were amazing! But he chocolate chips were also too dry. -

Go often and get there early! Love this place - the Cupcakes are amazing but they go fast. The only thing they need is MORE and maybe some coffee.

I really want to give this place a better review...but I am big on customer service & it's lacking in this place..BUT if you can get past that the cupcakes are good...
I moved here from STL and was told not to expect much as far as customer service from various businesses...oookkkaaayyy but I feel if I am paying money..u should be friendly..here are my experiences from 3 different trips....
1) first trip..different flavors (3) were avail..what if I want more of 1 flavor???
2) 2nd trip.....no variety of cupcakes just choc/vanilla
3) 3rd try.....they adverstised a shop full of goodies would be avail for Valentine's day...got there & was told everything was for pre orders only but I could feel free to buy a damn cookie or red velvet cupcake which both I can make at home....
If your going to sell cupcakes have a variety(maybe 5) of them...and not just 2 of each....all the time & appreciate the customers who patronize your business...
If you like Delicious Cupcakes w/ bad customer service...definitely visit here!!!Comment from Kristi W. of Brown Sugar Bakeshop 3/4/2011

Went in to get two dozen cupcakes, however when I arrived at 10:30 they had only standard flavors of red velvet and vanilla which had been made that day. They also had Oreo and some fruit topped number and chocolate chip from the day before. Over all very poor selection. Since I was there I did purchase one dozen (paid for 11, got two free) but was dissappointed. Service was very friendly though, and maybe they save the more adventurous flavors for the weekend? I wound up going to Cupcakes on Kavanaugh to get another dozen and they were much better.

On a road trip, we stopped in to get some sweet treats for the long ride. The shop is cute in a nice neighborhood. We got rock star parking in front and walked right in to a nice variety of cupcakes. Got the red velvet, strawberry and vanilla with sprinkles (as it was my birthday). My favorite is the Strawberry, a nice balance of sweet and icing. The vanilla with sprinklers is whimsical and good. The red velvet was just okay , but as a cupcake lover I still enjoyed it. Definitely stop by early to get the first selections or call ahead if you have special request. The staff and owners are friendly. Like the previous yelper stated, coffee/espresso offering would be a great addition to the menu.

i have been here a couple times and have not been disappointed. their limoncello cupcakes are perfect and their chocolate chip cookies are delicious as well. you have to get to the shop early though as quantities are sometimes limited since everything is so fresh. looking forward to trying their blueberry loaf! it is nicely located in river market and the employees are very friendly.
Update: They've moved to third street still in downtown near the Rivermarket district and still delicious! -

They are no longer inside the rivermarket, they have moved a few blocks away to East 3rd street... it's a much better location! It's a cute little space! They have like 5 or 6 comfy chairs with cute tables and decor so you can hang out there to enjoy your cupcakes or cookies. Not sure if they sell coffee or not, but it would be a great spot to enjoy a big 'ol chocolate chip cookie and a cup of coffee! I went to get cupcakes for a girls night. I got 6, 2 Chocolate fudge, a red velvet, 1 vanilla, 1 lemoncello, and 1 strawberry. They are pretty, especially the chocolate ones, with fancy icing and all. The strawberry one has a fresh strawberry slice on the top, and the vanilla came with colorful sprinkles on it :-) They were SO MOIST!!! We all loved them! Someone commented that the chocolate fudge cupcakes were too sweet, well, I LOVE sweet stuff and thought it was great! The ladies were nice as can be, and packed my cupcakes in a cute little case, which was also very car friendly. I say.... go get some cupcakes. Right now. Unless it's Monday, because they are closed on Monday :-)

i don't go to the cupcake places around stl because i refuse to pay $5 for a cupcake that is not worth it. i am told by other friends that they are not bigger cupcakes than what i can make at home.
i got a cupcake for $2.25. it was moist and not dried out at all.
we took some cookies back to the hotel with us. they are huge. and very good. more like a muffin top than a cookie.
this is definitely a must go to if you find yourself in downtown little rock. -

Quite possibly the most delicious and unique cupcake I have ever had!! Strawberry cupcake with a lovely light and creamy frosting garnished with a perfect and sweet strawberry half! Great cupcake!
