We ate here twice while in telluride. It was a totally nice break from $15-$20 entrees. It was also quite good. One night we had the Detroit style Rocket Pizza, the other the normal style White Pizza. I'd probably give the Detroit style 3 stars but the white pizza definitely gets 4.

It was really busy the first time we went. Rather than have people wait in their very tiny area in the front they were taking down phone numbers and calling when a table was ready. That was so great, it gave us time to do some shopping and before we knew it they were calling us with a table.

If you're looking for a less fancy meal while in telluride this is the place to go.

Cute little local place.  It was totally packed on a Wednesday due to sports games & trivia night.  Long wait to even order a pitcher & an equally long wait for them to arrive.  Server was good humored, but when our two pizzas arrived, one was totally incorrect:  double meat instead of veggie.  Sad trombone for this vegetarian.  Another 15-20 later, the veggie arrived triumphantly with apologies from our server.

Bonus points:  I liked that I could get 'my' half of the pizza without cheese.

    Awesome Detroit-style pizza(square)!
Best part is you can get all "corner" pieces if you like the crispy edges like I do.
It was the only place in town open (off-season,obviously) but I was glad I found it.
PBR on tap, the place was packed with locals, lots of TVs.

An ok pizza place in Telluride. Nothing special but nothing bad about it. It is hard to mess up pizza and the other bar foods. We were told by a local that 'there are no good pizza places in Telluride'... so we didn't have our hopes up very much going there. The prices were reasonable, service was decent.

Pizza was good but the service was awful.  If we were to return, I'd probably order to-go.
Our server had taken so long to get to us that someone else had got our drinks, so when she approached our table and didn't introduce herself or even say hello, we were a bit confused.  And it was downhill from there.

Hubs and I had a great time here and you can tell a lot of locals hang out here too. It has a nice, low key vibe. We stopped in twice. First time we just wanted a slice of pizza- which they have! It's NY-style, big slice - cheese or pepperoni for less than $3. Awesome deal. Pizza was pretty good. They have a nice selection of beers on tap and run about $5 for a pint.
Second time we decided we had to try the Detroit style pizza. We had the Prospector one with green chiles, mushrooms, and sausage. The combo was pretty good but it didn't have enough sauce for me to hold up to the thick crust. But I do prefer thinner crusts anyway. I definitely think you would love it if this is your style of pizza.
I saw someone order an italian hot sub and it looked amazing. I think I'd come back and order one of those! and another pizza- ny style.

We strolled into Brown Dog Pizza on a lazy summer Friday afternoon and took a seat at one of their large, comfy booths.  The place is decorated in sports memorabilia, however the owners of the establishment don't appear to be fans of the Colorado teams!  What's up with that?  ;)

We started out with a Greek salad that everyone at the table shared.   It was pretty tasty and your average, run of the mill, Greek salad.  Next, came the wings which were very spicy, but the sauce was a bit grainy as if they had used a lot of powdered spices while making the sauce.  I liked them, but they were not the best wings I've ever had.  For the main course, we split a supreme pizza.  It was great!  Well baked, evenly topped, and the perfect amount of cheese.  I really enjoyed it!

For a place to grab a slice and a beer, Brown Dog is GREAT!  I had a great time while I was here and the service was good.  Brown Dog Pizza is A-OK!

Not bad pizza. What was weird was that our server actually UNDER sold us. We asked if one pizza would feed our party of 6. She says, oh yeah, no problem. Well... not the case, if you're hungry. There's only 8 slices. Eight slices for six people? WTF!?!?!

Anyway, prices are decent and the pizza was pretty good, not great.

Excellent spot for watching a game!  TV's everywhere!!

I had the fish and chips--- which was an amazingly HUGE portion and completely yummy.  My friend had a hamburger which looked fantastic.

The service was 'eh', but overall it was a nice meal and I would recommend it.

Detroit-style pizza is not something with which many non-Michiganders are familiar, so it's cool to find it 2,000 miles away in the only pizzeria on the lower portion of the city (one of the only sports bars, too).

Thicker than most crusts though smaller than a Chicago pie, the Detroit-style crust is about an inch high, pillow-y, and with less chew. This runs counter to my personal preferences - I'm always looking for the thinness of a nice NY- or Midwestern tavern-style pizza - but the Detroit benefits from the square pan in which it's cooked. Like a brownie, the edges brown quicker, creating a crispy perimeter to the soft crust on the inside of the slice. Plus, there's cheese that builds up in the corners and also gets browned something nice.

I had the simple tomato pie, and it was simply very good. The inherent nature of the large amount of crust in the Detroit-style pizza means that I got full 3/4 of the way through my personal-sized pie,but the sweet and herbal sauce was pleasant to spend an afternoon with.

From what I know about Detroit, I'm not looking to take a vacation there anytime soon, but the next time in Telluride, it's definitely worth stopping for a visit.

Seriously the best pizza I've EVER had in my life.  Went to Telluride for the first time a few months ago and was in awe of this quaint litte town.  The resort I stayed at recommended Brown Dog since we wanted to watch football and have a beer.  It was really busy but the service was on point.  We ordered their deep dish pizza and it was AMAZING.  I'm kind of glad that we don't have one of these in Albuquerque because I would probably put on 100 in a month.  It is THAT good.  Whenever we order pizza when we are back home - we always compare it to Brown Dog and -- well it just doesn't compare.  Sadly.  If you are in Telluride - you MUST stop here.  Yum!

This place really hits the spot after a long day on the slopes. First off, if you're a sports fan, they have TVs everywhere, and they have pretty much every sports package you could want. We came here a couple nights ago to watch the Lakers dominate the Celtics. GO LAKE SHOW!

The atmosphere is great - very casual. They have a lot of beers, and the price is really reasonable. There were two of us, and we went there and had buffalo chicken strips as an appetizer (which was awesome). I had a stromboli, and my girlfriend had a burger. The stromboli was amazing, and the burger was definitely above average. Our bill was under $40, which is great, considering that this is an upscale mountain town.

Fine dining is great, but if you're in the mood to just get some good food, watch some sports, and relax after a good day on the mountain, check out Brown Dog Pizza.

I flew into Montrose from Philadelphia, drove to Telluride, fell asleep, showered and came here after circling the main drag looking for a good place for a bite to eat. Good decision.

I sat down to a $2.50 PBR and almost instantly fell into conversation with some locals who told me all the good places to hike, take pictures, have a drink - much appreciated advice! I got a burger, despite the pizzeria orientation and was not disappointed. The bun really made it - not too big, but crusty and yummy. Ordered rare and served rare (a rarity! ha!) with very yummy fries. I'm reserving the 5th star because I feel like I should try the epynonomous pizza, but I would highly recommend.

Meaty pizza was excellent. Great place to stop for lunch. Good service, neat atmosphere.   We (there was a group of 24 riders from AR) pulled into Telluride looking for a good location for lunch. Yelp to the rescue and based on the reviews, we walked to the Brown Dog. Nobody was disappointed, pizza was excellent, service was friendly and the atmosphere was perfect. Plus the ride up through Lizard head pass from Durango was wonderful. Lunch was so good, my wife and I now sport around Arkansas with official Brown Dog Pizza t-shirts!  Very fashionable and our Chocolate Labs highly approve!  Don't miss the opportunity to have great pizza in a neat place downtown Telluride.

Great Bloody Marys.  I think we paid extra for the horseradish infused vodka but it was totally, totally worth it. The pizza was good - they avoid the typical mountain-town, soggy flour-y crust by making a very light (hi-egg base?) crust with good quality toppings.

    Atmosphere laid back and friendly.

You can 'park' your dog outside with a bowl of water no problem. Large windows and doors allow you to keep an eye on the people stopping to pet your dog. Telluride is a dog-friendly town, don't hesitate to take them down for a walk and pop in for a drink at a local bar / restaurant (where dog parking is noted).

I am partial to the Brown Dog because I have a brown dog... Otis the chocolate Lab! We enjoyed our dinner that Brown Dog - where I had a calzone and my husband ate a burger. We've had better bites of both - but the crowd at the Brown Dog was unpretentious and there were great sports on the TV which made it kind of fun (ultimate fighting, anyone?!?)

    Enjoy!

Brown Dog is one of just a few affordable places to sit down to eat and drink in Telluride. Nothing is that great about this place, it's cramped, the pizza is decent, beer selection is okay, and the wait staff is seemingly always high.

Despite the setbacks, I keep coming back though, because when you just spent $100 to ski that day, you don't always feel like spending another $100+ to eat that night.

I'm a complete pizza snob and this is by far the best "American style" (their description) pizza I have ever eaten anywhere. The crust is slightly thicker than "European style" but is simply out of this world. They offer thin crust pizza upon request. I had planned to ask for thin then forgot, but soon thereafter asked the waiter to have the kitchen cook the pizza a bit longer to ensure a crispy crust. It was just perfect, I would never order it any other way. The toppings were of highest quality and just outstanding. Another positive: they have Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on tap (along with a large selection of others). Although we didn't make it to every bar and restaurant in Telluride (despite working at it pretty hard) we never found much of anything but local-to-Colorado craft brews on tap anywhere else. Which is fine if you like them, which we didn't.

Brown Dog has a nice clean sports bar type atmosphere, a great vibe, and friendly efficient service. When we were there probably 80% of the patrons were locals. That tells you something. They are working on opening a second location in Denver; those of you that live near Denver need to keep your ears on for the opening date.

Anyone coming to Telluride that likes pizza is well-advised to put Brown Dog at the top of your "must do" list. We were in town for five days, Brown Dog and La Marmotte were the best places in town (although at opposite ends of the style and expense spectrum!)

Been on the road for 2 days and we both just wanted a good pizza, drink a beer and have a salad while watching Monday night football.  Brown Dog in Telluride fit the bill perfectly.  My gal and I split a tasty dinner salad with bleu cheese dressing and had a Detroit Style deep dish Parma Italia (parmigiano reggiano, mozzarella,  roasted eggplant, sweet piquant peppers... yum!!!) pizza for two, WOW!  Tasty and just right.  Watched the game on multiple screens where we could even hear the game commentary even though the place was packed on a Monday night.  There were other Baseball games on too, so we were in sports heaven.  Service was good and pretty fast.  Took home the 4th piece (we were full) in a doggy box for breakfast in the morning.  Would we go again, absolutely!

4 stars for an excellent veggie pizza -- especially enjoyed the crust.  A small 10" with a side salad was plenty for the two of us.  It was 3 slices each.  Apparently our waitress thought we needed to eat more because she seemed in disbelief when we assured her that was all we wanted.

2 star for sports coverage.  With nearly 10 TVs visible to the majority of the tables in the restaurant, they had over half of them showing the same game.  WTF.  It was March Madness weekend and there were lots of games on as well as other sports.  Maybe on other weekends their coverage is a little bit better, but the two times that we stopped in it wasn't so great.

Needless to say ... I think it's one of the best sports bars in town and I'm sure I'll be back to give it a 3rd try this summer maybe :)

Just got back from here and in off season there isn't a lot of choices but the food is typical sports bar stuff. I had a buffalo chicken sandwich which was good and tasty, friend has the lasagna which was ok too.

Pizza pub fare has been served here for years.  However, it looks like they may be breaking some child labour laws, but who cares cause the beer smells like kind bud (guess which one). It's not new York pizza, but rather the doughy stuff that red necks prefer to fill up the gut.  If I had a brown dog to tie outside and flirt with the other dog owners, especially that bue eyed man with the mustache, I would have definitely given the place another star.

The service and food was terrible! We were rained in, so we ordered take-out from this spot. The food was really awful and the service was unbelieveably bad!

My daughter and I walked into the spot with a sign that immediatly says "please wait to be seated", so we waited and waited....the two bartenders to our left, male and female, saw us but continued what they were doing, a waitress also passed by us and continued to serve her tables, so finally the bus-girl saw us and started looking around for someone, don't know who she was looking for, but she finally asked how she could help, and I told her I was there to pick up an order. She sent me to the bar, so of course, both bartenders continued to ignore me, after almost 5 minutes, the male bartender addressed me from afar, so I screamed across the bar that I needed to pick up an order, he asked for my name and pulled up my receipt. I then handed him my card, and after he rang the bill up, he tossed my card back to me from afar. The last people he checked out didn't get their card thrown back at them. I believe that was very rude and disrespectful to me, since I handed him my card, he should have done the same!

Hope others have a better experience, but I've never in my life experienced such awful service along with bad food.

So you are all cozy in your 10,000-foot-high mountain retreat and you don't want to go out, but (sigh) you must eat: Order a pizza from what must surely be a favorite among locals. You can eat at the restaurant, too, of course. But the night we were there the sports channels were blaring, almost all the tables and bar stools were occupied and the waitress was a bit surly. But, hey, the four of us went to town with pasta, stromboli, salads, pizza and wine and were so satisfied that we left a big tip anyway.
