Well I've heard about this place for awhile now and it's been bookmarked on my Yelp app just as long. The last time I heard about this place I had just finished a run with my buddy (who celebrates his birthdays here all the time), and two other girls.

I am sure that the friend who suggested this place to one of those girls, that one being the my lovely Austrian running counterpart who I mentioned in another review. This goes out to the my friend, "Hi man, this place was delicious!" :)

Head to the bar and whatever the chef says is good. Warning: Act cool, calm, and collect once the check comes because every delicious morsel has a price and some are PRICEY.

This isn't your typical strip mall sushi joint with the faded banner saying 'Grand Opening' even though they have been open years or the sign on the front window that reads 'New Management' but it's still the very same people from the old management.

I went with a friend's recommendation of goro, kampachi, and otoro sashimi(if you are willing to throw down some money). Also, looking through the reviews of this place, using the Yelp app, I noticed this Linda roll that a lot of people were raving about. So I got it. Omg it's big! That's what she said! (I hang out with Laura S. too much).

    Would I be back?
Yes but damn that drive is a mission! It wasn't too bad when I was staying in the dreaded GH. If I had known of this, I would have come here more often. Although I am sure I would need the bariatric rig to haul my fat ass to the hospital after I fall and can't get up after tripping over my gut.

I am hypercritical of sushi restaurants, most likely because my mother was born and raised in Japan. Brother's is my favorite sushi spot and I feel like it's been a huge part of my life (my mother's baby shower was held here). Everything is wonderful: the food, the staff. It's tiny and there's usually a wait, but it's worth it.

My picks: halibut cilantro sashimi & garlic seared ahi tuna with jalapeño

I was referred by a stylist to go to Brothers Sushi on Ventura.  One night, while driving on Ventura Blvd searching with a friend, we saw Little Brother Sushi and thought we found it.

Well, we kind of found it.  Apparently there are at least two: Brothers Sushi and Little Brothers Sushi.  That night, we ate at Little Brothers Sushi.  I came home, wrote a review on Yelp, and discovered today that I reviewed the wrong location.  So, a little cutting and pasting moved the original review from this spot to the other spot.

Today, with new company, I tried Brother Sushi (which I am tempted to call Big Brother Sushi or Double Brother Sushi so I don't mix them up again.)

The good news is that both locations have amazingly fresh fish, fantastic service, clean environments, and a magnetism that makes me want to return to both locations because I just cannot choose between them.

Summary: Go to Either Brother Sushi and prepare to feel comfortable, cared for, and delighted.

(P.S. The compulsory sprout salad which serves as the sushi preface is ridiculously perfect...like Ratatouille-movie-food-critic perfect.)

Normally I never come to the valley. But a few nights ago I found myself in the valley and hungry for sushi.  Randomly found this place and Holy S*^T was I surprised.  It is now one of my top 3 favorite sushi places in LA.  High quality sushi and master sushi chefs.  I cant recommend this place enough.  I may even consider making another trip to the valley to eat here.

    Ridiculously Reedonkulous Sushi.

Coming straight outta the mouth of this Matsuhisha, Nobu, Sushi Zo, Kiyokawa fan. Brothers sushi BRINGS IT. Well, they may not bring it when it comes to decor, ambiance or advantageous table placement (ahem, I was literally sat next to the women's restroom door), but as far as phenomenal phish is concerned, Brother's is phucking phresh phantastic.

    Of the following -

    // toro sashimi
// red snapper sushi special with olive oil, lemon and sea salt
    // kampachi sashimi
// halibut sashimi with chili sauce
    // uni nigiri x2
// ikura and quail egg nigiri x4
    // salmon collar maki
// sweet shrimp nigiri (with heads)
// amberjack sushi with ponzu and green onion
    // tamago nigiri

    - there was not a misstep in the bunch. Not even close. Recommendations came frequently from the friendly staff and the sashimi, nigiri and specialty dishes flowed like the Jōganji River until we positively could maki mangia no longer.

It's been a long time since I've had fish so delish.

Brothers, be mine! You're like the brother I never had! Wait. I do have a brother... I just like you better.

Yelp!  It is that good and as fresh as everyone says it is!  Rice was wasting my precious little taste buds from absorbing the ever loving goodness of this place!

They don't carry "fresh" wasabi root so that is the only upgrade they could make!

I went to Brothers with my family for the first time when I was home for spring break.
Our visit started off rough, but once our sushi and sashimi came, it no longer mattered that parking was miserable and the restaurant was hard to spot along ever-busy Ventura Blvd., that we'd waited forever, or that we were crammed into a tiny table right next to the bathroom--the food was that good. Those things did happen, though, so beware.
We ordered sashimi first: salmon, toro, kampachi, and yellowtail. Each order came with 10 small pieces, except the kampachi which had 5 or 6.
The salmon was perfect, with spot-on flavor and texture and beautiful fat marbling. My family is quite picky about its salmon, but this passed my mom's impossible salmon test.
Five of the pieces were true toro, of the delicious and fatty, melt-in-your mouth variety (and some of the best I've had, at that), but the other five were closer to regular tuna with a meatier flavor and texture, which was tasty in its own right--but frankly, if I wanted regular tuna, I would have ordered that instead.
This was my first time trying kampachi, and I guess I expected too much from it given the extra fancy presentation and higher price per piece, but it didn't wow me. Its salty scallion garnish made for a good bite, but it wasn't worth the price.
The yellowtail was pretty standard--not my favorite fish but a family staple.
After sashimi, we moved onto some of Brothers' few special rolls.
The Kerry Roll consists of salmon, tuna, crab, and shrimp in small pieces inside the roll, along with a skosh of some mayonnaise-y California Roll-like sauce. It was tasty and definitely a good counterpoint to all that sashimi, which isn't nearly as filling. You can order this as four super-sized pieces or eight smaller ones. I strongly recommend the smaller pieces, to keep eating manageable. It's hard to taste each individual fish because there are so many, but the sum of the parts is tasty and clearly superior to its more basic corollary, the California Roll. I'd likely order it again.
The JJ Roll (spicy salmon, tuna, and yellowtail), on the other hand, didn't outshine its more standard counterpart, the Spicy Tuna Roll. It tasted good, but the additions of salmon and yellowtail don't elevate the taste noticeably. I might pass on this one next time.
Then we decided to go crazy and order sweet shrimp, which I'd never tried before. I'd seen the fried heads come out to other sushi-goers in the past, so I had a clue of what to expect, or at least thought I did. The HUGE translucent shrimp sat on rice, nigiri style, and were topped with deep maroon roe. Opposite that was the fried head in all its glory, bits of succulent shrimp still inside. A light but flavorful dipping sauce separated the two on the plate. I nursed this baby for a good seven or eight minutes, taking the tiniest of bites to savor everything. Because I ate it so slowly and because there was nothing holding the shrimp and rice together like the nori wrapper often found in eel nigiri, I ended up losing a lot of rice and having the whole structure collapse in my hands. That's what I get for trying to maximize my enjoyment, I guess. In all seriousness, this was so good. You have to try it if you like shrimp/haven't tried raw shrimp/want to give your mouth a treat/have a soul. I will order this every time I go to Brothers and look forward to trying it at my other sushi spots to see how it compares.
We closed out our meal with eel nigiri, as we do wherever we eat, which I couldn't give much criticism to if I tried. The pieces of eel were huge and the whole package was easy to eat because a thin strip of nori held the rice and eel together. One thing to be wary of is that Brothers serves theirs with a little less eel sauce than most places' eel has.
My sister and I also tried some chocolate mochi ice cream, but as Trader Joe's freezer section mochi connoisseurs and little more, I can't say how good it was compared to other mochi ice cream served up by the pros. It was mighty tasty, though, just like our whole meal.
By the time we left, I'd all but forgotten how cramped we'd been at our little table by the bathroom.
The check was steep, so do beware that this is on the more expensive side for sushi. This could not a be a regular haunt of mine back at school on my starving college student budget; it's more of a special occasion, out with parents (or someone else who'll pay for you) kind of place.

We have been to Brothers Sushi more than a handle of times. Each time we have gone, we spend around $200 for the two of us. Much to our disappointment....tonight will be the end of our sushi there. The host "Setska" (sp?) was RUDE! First she tells us that we can't sit at our normal spot with our usual chef at the bar because "A party of four " will be sitting there, so she seats us at the end. Come to find out as we begin eating, its open to parties of two. Then as we are biting into our Toro sushi, she comes over and asks us to move so that she could seat more people. WTF seriously! I told her "she was rude and we were in the middle of eating" She still insisted that she was right in what she asked. Never again will we return . Sushi is great, but the service is not worth the aggravation, nor the money spent

I just returned from one of the yummiest, freshest, best dates I have ever been on. Good boyfriend. But, thank you Brothers for a wonderful evening. My thoughts....

Kerry Roll - Holy moly. My new favorite roll. Ever. Very similar to the Niko Roll @ Niko Sushi, and the Yugi Roll @ Banzai in Calabasas. Delicious in every way. (Very reasonably priced compared to these other establishments, which charge $13 for basically the exact same roll).

Spicy Scallops - Fresh, melt in your mouth kind of deal. I don't consider myself a big risk taker sushi wise, but I absolutely love scallops and highly recommend them at Brothers.

Garlic Shrimp Roll - Who would have thought? A very interesting, and to me, unconventional roll. Order it if you have a little Italian in you, or you just love garlic. Or both.

Spicy Yellowtail - Again, a favorite. Absolutely amazing.

I've heard through some other sushi lovers that Brothers has a temperature problem, but I have no complaints about this place thus far. Service was great, we got in with a 5 minute wait, and our server was kind and attentive. 5 stars.

Best sushi in the valley. Always fresh. I usually do take out and they've never messed up my order. I prefer not to eat in as it seems to never fail that I recognize someone and am forced to chit chat. No. ALL I WANT TO DO IS EAT THIS YUMMY SUSHI! Not cheap, but I'm not willing to get sick on half price or mediocre sushi. Brothers rocks!

It is a great sushi restaurant. The sushis, and sashimis are amazing and the selection is great. The rolls are interesting. It is not a place for simple (but great) rolls for that go to Niko Sushi in Tarzana.
The prices are high. So ask for the price for the specials or it could cost $30 for two pieces. Decide before ordering if it is a special occasion or just a regular sushi night.

If it is a regular sushi night:

Order from the small menu, everything is pretty good, and the price would be reasonable. Mix sushis and rolls. Cannot go wrong

I had the toro, mackerel, yellowtail, ankimo ( monk fish liver pate). The sauces are delicate, not too overpowerful or too spicy.

if it is a special occasion:

Order only the specials that are on the wall, and the special of the day/week. It may be confusing to order as you have: the small sheet, the boards with regular specials, and new specials. You will enjoy a great sushi experience but be ready for a high bill easily over $50 a person.

I wish the rice was warmer with the sushi and a little more vinegary. ( like at Sushi sushi see my review)

The tempura red bean ice cream is good. ( banzai is still my favorite for tempura ice cream see my review)

The place is a little dark. Too bad because the food is beautiful.

If you like fresh sushis ( raw fish on rice), and sashimis and you are in the Valley go to Brothers Sushi.

When my friend first mentioned Brother's Sushi, I thought it sounded like a ghetto sushi place and was daunted about the prospect of traveling to Woodland Hills for it.

I am not a sushi roll fan, but if I wanted to eat rolls, Brother Sushi is as good as it gets!  Anytime you have tuna or cucumber  as a wrapper instead of the usual rice & seaweed, I'll be there.  The sashimi was fresh and good, but I've had better. Come for the rolls!

The Linda Roll (Crab wrapped with Tuna) and the Paul Roll (Salmon, Shrimp, and Tuna wrapped with Cucumber!) were my favorites.

My friend loves the garlic shrimp roll, I was just okay with it.  Sort of expensive, but I think it's worth the price.  I don't mess around with my sushi.  ;)

Top-notch sushi in the west Valley.  I'd definitely recommend this place, with the caveat that there are better-priced sushi options in the Valley, to be sure.

The atmosphere is also great here, and the service is excellent.

Basically, what you get here is great sushi and a great dining experience, and you PAY for it.

Personally, I'm more a fan of great food at great prices, and hole-in-the-wall types of discoveries.  That's why I'm such a fan of Got Sushi (see my other reviews).

But if you want an impressive place to take friends, family or a date, this place fits the bill.  The food is always great, as is the service, and the overall dining experience always lives up to expectations.

I'd give five stars if I were not considering the price.

But holy sh- batman, it is so good.

Go for the house salad and rolls without rice. OMG. I want them NOW.

The wait was long, but understandable because it is so yummy. We sat at the bar and the chefs were attentive and funny. The waiters kept our glasses full, and cleared our plates in a timely manner.

The only problem, is now I feel ruined for other sushi, but I can't wait to go back!

Brothers is more or less a staple of the valley now and has not changed much since I started going there in the '90s.

What keeps me coming back to Brothers is that they don't skimp on the fish portions.  Other sushi places, *cough* Kushiyu *cough*, load up the rice and fluff and give you a little sliver of fish on their nigiri sushi portions.  Not so at Brothers.  You can count on a fat chunk of Flounder or Sebastian on a very reasonable amount of rice.

Admittedly, outside of the bar, the service can be hit or miss.  Also, don't expect there to be any order if you show up during peak hours and have to wait.  Stay inside and hover around the reception area so you don't get jostled out of your spot.

Once you're at the sushi bar though, all of Brothers shortcomings (some people refer to it as charm, but it's the type of charm that a classic Ferrari has when it sits in the shop for weeks on end every 500 miles) are forgotten and you can settle in for a great time.  I'm not going to get into what to order, as that is mostly personal when it comes to sushi, but make sure and get the Kerry cut roll if you like imitation crab.  It's delicious and filling.  I tend to finish my meal off with fresh shrimp + the fried head or freshwater eel, as it puts a sweet taste in my mouth at the end of a meal.  Either way, you can't go wrong at Brothers.

It's the day after Thanksgiving and the Q of R and I are both beat down.  We've been cooking and cleaning for two days in a row, and I'm burnt!  The relatives have all cleared out, Yahhhhhhaaaaa!

After all the over eating and over drinking, I need something nice and light.  If I attempt to eat another greasy cheeseburger I'm surely going to drop dead this afternoon.  Time to treat ourselves to a little Japanese food for lunch today.

Brothers Sushi came to mind.  They don't do lunch on the weekends (what a shame) so we took advantage of this Friday off from work to go there.  Parking in the back was a breeze.  The restaurant was well staffed when we arrived.  Plenty of open tables, and we were seated right away.  Men's bathroom was spotless.

We ordered a "Linda" roll to share.  It was $15.00, but I understood why when it arrived at our table.  It was huge!  Big thick ahi tuna slices, lightly seared and wrapped around a generous amount of fresh crab under a light ponzu sauce.  It was very fresh and most delicious.

I ordered a combo lunch which came with sesame mung beans and cucumber, miso soup, sticky rice, salad, chicken teriyaki, sauteed albacore, and a chilled sliced orange.  Everything was great.

The Queen of Reseda pretty much had the same thing but mixed tempura instead of the sauteed albacore.  Service was attentive and friendly.  Hot green tea was refilled frequently.

Background music was side two of Bob Marley's Exodus album.  Reggae and sushi.  Excellent combination!

I'm giving this place 4 stars because of their parking.  I know, its unfair to judge a restaurants food based on things that don't involve food... but parking is a big deal to me.

food was good. the fish is fresh and its delicious.  they're innovative and they have good combination when it comes down to their rolls.  Their hot sauce is spicier and it kind of burns, but not too much.

Its good.  I was actually craving it again in the same week.

So ... my man and I decide to eat sushi for dinner and we reluctantly decide to try a new place.  We are so hooked on Midori Sushi, we figured we needed to venture off to other sushi spots.  How can you find other fave spots if you don't try them, right??

Well, at the end of the dinner, we were disappointed and still hungry.  We felt it was a waste of $70.  We've tasted better sushi (and not just at Midori's).  The restaurant was small and everyone was packed like sardines.  We purchased 4 different types of rolls and various sashimis - and we were still unimpressed at the end of the night.  We would rather pick up some sushi at Whole Foods before coming back to Brothers.  (And really, the sushi at Whole Foods is actually good for being supermarket sushi.)

SCRUMPTIOUS SUSHI  is what this place should be called.  The service and the food are both phenomenal.  I've eaten sushi in Australia, and I think this place comes pretty close to tasting just as good.  Their rolls are delicious!!  I'm not sure if you need reservations, but  when I went,  there was no wait.  Just make sure you go there with an empty stomach.  You'll eat until you get stuffed, but still want to eat more.  It's THAT good.

Quality & sushi portion has diminished a bit in the past several years...but whenever I'm in this part of the valley with a hankering for some sushi, this is a quick fix for the raw fish hunger pangs.
Their albacore is A-OK but, again I've had better at this very same establishment a few years back.
If there's anything that keeps me coming here, it's the KERRY (hand) ROLL in soy paper.
Polish this down with a Sapporo & I'm good to go.
The sushi chefs are nice enough & will work in pretty much anything you request. Eat & drink well.

I came here for my birthday, and wasn't disapointed.  As other reviewers mentioned, the parking wasn't that great, but once we got inside, the service was excellent.  The toro was expensive, but high quality, and the JJ roll was my favorite.
Overall, it was pricey, but that is to be expected for high quality sushi.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in the valley. The fish is SO fresh and they always have unique and tasty rolls.

Get the ALEC EGINLI roll, it's new!

this is where I had the best UNI of my life 5 years ago, every year I ask the waitress did they sell this place?? they say no, but I think they lie. it's different. the taste is different, I am liking Lil brother's down the street better. the same sushi, you don't have to be turned away because their packed....  but once again, I will drive by, I am there for the UNI.

If you want to eat fresh and well prepared quality sushi this hidden gem in Woodland Hills is the place to go. They know sushi !!!
This hole in the wall ( small shack ) place does not have any fancy tables or decorations but  just perfect sushi. Parking in the back is limited to few cars, but  you can find a space in the front. Call for reservation a head before you go go there..

I hate everyone for recommending this place. Seriously.

So I hear about this place from an instructor and colleague. They were raving that it was the BEST sushi they ever had! I then looked it up on Yelp to find more excellent reviews... I was really excited to try it...

Lets first go over sushi quality. If you rate based on rolls, you shouldnt be rating sushi. Sorry, but amazing rolls can be made with previously frozen fish and you would not know, rolls are like hot dogs in the sushi world - sure, they can taste damn good - but only the lesser quality fish go in them. So let me tell you, the rolls here - they really were delicious, but not something Im going to base this review on.

The Nigiri sushi, the texture of it seemed to be fresh. However, it was some of the FISHIEST raw fish I ever had. Fresh raw fish should have no 'fishy' smell or taste. I was disgusted.

Price: Holy hell. $7 for 2 pcs of Salmon Nigiri that tasted like crap.

The restaurant seats like 15-20 people. Its tiny. Parking is nearly impossible. The quality is horrible. The prices are astronomically high. I should have known better though...... Its in freaking Woodland Hills AND almost everyone rating them were based on rolls. Damn you all.

There is no question that this place is not a cheap sushi restaurant, and no one should want or expect that here!  It is a true pleasure to step foot in a sushi bar with such class and quality.

I can't wait to celebrate my friends birthday here, go brothers!

Cons: a bit pricey, small, average ambiance.
Pros: everything else  you can like about a restaurant. Do not go there if you want ambiance and fancy rolls. Go there for the fish. It is the freshest in the valley. I am a sushi addict and have tried all the 5 star places in town. This is the best. The menu is somewhat limited but do not let it stop you. The sushi chefs are some of the best in town and will make you most of the sushi dishes you like. If you can explain it, there is a great chance they know how to make it.

Do not miss: Steve's cut roll - albacore inside and outside. I tell them not to put wasabi inside. By default it comes with a tiny bit so you can smell but not taste or the other way around.
Do not miss: Rainbow cut roll. I usually order with salmon instead of shrimp for a couple of $$ more. What it means is that the rolls will come with tuna, albacore, avocado, and salmon on top of the roll filled with cut shrimp. By default it comes with tuna, albacore or yellow tail, avocado and shrimp. Also very delicious.
Do not miss: Goro's world famous albacore sashimi. It's spectacular.
Do not miss: Kerry roll - comes in two varieties - small cut and regular. There are 4 oversize pieces of regular - hard to fit in the mouth, so I usually order the small cut - 6 or 8 I can not recall cause I finish them in less than 30 seconds.

Did I mention that the service is very attentive and eager to please?

I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

Like most of my reviews, this one comes with a story....

While in college, I dated this guy.  Turns out, said guy was not such a great guy...in fact, he and Ike Turner had quite a few things in common, if you get my meaning.

However, this guy had one good quality, he liked good food.

In fact, whenever the guy and I would get into what he liked to call "disagreements" he would always treat me to a 5 star dinner to make up for his behavior.

When he was especially bad, we'd drive all the way to Woodland Hills for Brothers Sushi.

I remember this place being amazing.  The first sushi place that made me crave salmon, which I'd never liked before.  A place where the food was so amazing, it was almost worth the previous acts of the week to get there.

So ten years later, whilst in the valley with the new and improved version of a boyfriend who is as sweet as the last one was not, I wanted to see if my memory was accurate, or colored by the past trauma.

My memory was right on the money.

Holy mackerel...it was amazing.  Toro, Salmon, Spanish Mackerel, rolls AND traditional fare, all mouth watering, all better than I remembered, all worth the hour plus drive.

And yes, it was pricey...however, most of the fish I ordered was high end and shipped from Japan and, to be honest, was worth the money.

If you ever are in the valley and want truly exceptional sushi, you must give it a try....I know I won't be waiting ten years to go back again.

This place is awesome.  It's a bit pricey, but sushi places tend to be that way.

The cuts of fish are huge, and the quality of fish is the best I've had in LA.

If you're looking for a posh Hollywood style sushi joint, this isn't the place for you.  It's a cozy little place, and gets a bit crowded, but the service is good and the people are nice.  It's clean, friendly, and quick.

You can't really ask for more than that.
