I absolutely love this place. Some of the best Korean BBQ in the City. The bulgogi and spicy pork are very tasty. I definitely try to stop in whenever I'm in town.

This is the place regarded as best Korean food in SF, which I am not sure I can dispute. I think that speaks more to the competition of Korean food in SF vs. the quality of this restaurant.
I do love how they often give some small dish 'on the house'. -

All my friends in SF told me this is THE K-bbq place. Maybe the expectation was too high, but it was more like a whatever food experience. The hostess was super nice and friendly. I actually the food was kind of bland for a k restaurant.

3.5 stars. We found a space in front of Brother's but the place was empty so we walked down to Clement and see if there were better alternatives. We ended back on Geary and passed by Brother II and it was fairly packed so we walked in. On a cold stormy night, Korean food sounds perfect.
The tables to either side have the grilling option while the tables in the middle do not. We didn't feel like grilling our own food so we were sat at the far end middle table.
We were initially served with just the bean sprouts and cucumber...I was not too happy and wondering why we don't get the selection of banchan others get...turns out we do get it, they bring them with our food. It was a good selection: bean sprouts, cucumber, kimchee, slices of seaweed, anchovies w/ pepper, fishcake, seaweed...
What we had:
sauteed squid with vegetables in spicy sauce - $15.95 - adding rice cake at $1 - this was very tasty, not spicy and a little sweet
chop chae - $15.95 - the portion is very small comparing to other places and considering the price but it was very good. It also has more beef than other places, which we don't care for...we would have liked more noodles
pan fried green onions with shrimps, squids, and minced oysters in flour and egg batter - $17.95 - this was very good, hubby's favorite dish of the evening. it was good plain but you can also use the spicy soy sauce that was served with it
There are two older gentlemen - one behind the counter and one in front - both were friendly observant and attentive.Listed in: All things Korean

Brothers has quite established themselves with a reputation. Many of my friends recommends me this place. This place gets neglected in the shadow of the original location. However I feel that this secondary location is better.
The ceiling is higher giving more room for the smoke streaming from the hot bbq grills on your table. The tables are spaced out more giving a less crowded feel and there is a walled off room in the back if you prefer more privacy. In general, this place is more quiet and chill compared to the other one.
Food is the same as the other place. They use fresh hot charcoal for your bbq. They have a standard selection of meats and they are all pretty good. They surround your grill with at least a dozen side dishes which range from good to mediocre quality. I was quite disappointed that their kimchi didn't taste as fresh. The tofu in the stew was weak. The tea is always hot and compliments the heat radiating off the grill in front of your face. Nice to have that during a cold San Francisco day. The clear noodle dish had a distinct sesame taste and was delicious. their combination
Their service is great. They come around and help manage the grill. There a hint of entertainment watching the meat sizzle in front of you. Their proportions are quite large. We ordered a dinner set meant for 4 people, but I think it could have feed 6 people pretty well.
Parking is a pain thought. Goes for all the businesses on Geary. -

I love Korean food (being a Korean gal with a "healthy appetite" as my bf says). My bf and I were craving Korean, and we drove all the day to the Richmond to get some savory galbi. We ordered a galbi dish for two people, a seafood pancake and a denjang soup. At a regular Korean restaurant, this should provide more than enough food for two. Instead we got very little beef, and the soup was very bad ( I could make much better). The seafood pancake was very pricey and wasn't very tasty. We were very disappointed with the amount of beef, and the waitress said that we would have to pay another $30 to get more beef. Really?! In hindsight, I should have known to order more beef, but overall it was pretty expensive for mediocre food and very little galbi. I won't be going near this place again.

Review from Maria B.
We had a very large party (17) and they were quite accommodating. 2/3 of the table had ordered the big 6-person meat deal. Instead of cooking it in front of us - we had them cook it in the back since our tables were already so full.
They were attentive, not rude, and gave us free beer and spicy squid!
Would definitely want to come back if I'm in the area. -
Review from Nish N.
I'm not quite sure why the other Brothers down the street is perpetually packed, but we ended up trying Brothers II and were very happy we did. While there isn't any real ambiance, the mom and pop service made up for it.
For first timers to the place, we ordered the Dinner for Four, and were nearly overwhelmed with beef, pork, tempura, noodles, and all sorts of exotic yet familiar side dishes.
There is nothing quite like having your meats grilled right before you, and that interaction definitely adds to the experience. Next time around, I think we'd order more specifically off the menu but Brothers II is most certainly a fun place to come out with a group.
Be warned, though, your clothes will smell like gas and good Korean food. -
Review from Beth W.
We stopped by here for dinner because the other spot we wanted to try was simply packed (a Japanese sushi/sashimi mom & pop). In thinking of where to go at 7:40PM, I said "how about Brother's 2?" Fortunately the guys were in agreement and we drove over.
Warmly greeted by the ladies who work there, we were seated at one of the BBQ grills. We decided to order ala carte versus the family dinners since it was only three of us (the family dinners are good for 4 or more folks). We settled on our favorites: spicy pork, bulgogi (boneless beef) and shrimp tempura (also comes with veggie tempura). I also asked for another small plate of go-chu-jang (a red paste) for us to use on the bbq meats.
Hot charcoals in two steel rectangular boxes were lowered gently into the middle and the grill placed on top. The ban-chan (assorted small dishes to go with the bbq) showed up immediately followed by the tofu soup. Our waitress brought out the large platter of spicy pork and boneless meat which she promptly placed on the grill for us.
In the very back (we were seated mid-section of the restaurant) were a very large group (nine guys) of young college aged men who were obviously having a great time. The restaurant was half full when we arrived and by the time we left, it was full with one table available.
We have always had great service with a smile at this spot and rarely have to wait for a table. In getting here, we saw the lines of folks at the original spot Brothers 1....why wait so long with so-so service when the second spot offers little to no waiting and the same menu? We like this one best and had a great dinner and fun times together!Listed in: The City (that's San Francisco…

Review from Andrew C.
I prefer Brothers 2 vs Brothers 1 because there's always less of a wait, the food's pretty much the same, and the service seems a little better.
The Korean name translates to Brothers Galbi so stick with the BBQ and you should be fine . . . wait, don't get the shrimp BBQ because the portion is dinky, but the rest are good, though occasionally fatty. I really like the wood charcoal vs. the gas grills you see at most Korean places.
The stews (chi gae) are OK, though my mom thinks they are too salty, but I think my mom's soups are too bland so they are perfect for me (sorry mom!!!). The broiled fish is consistenly over-cooked so avoid that too. They have good broiled fish at that place in Japantown who's name I can't remember (was that helpful? [edit] ok, it was Seoul Garden in the Japantown building where we got the tasty broiled fish)
The service is quick and nice enough. The owner is always smiling and I always get a "service" (i.e. on the house) item when I'm there. Chigae, japchae, or squid bokkum.
I haven't been here in awhile, but with my many visits in the past I'm giving 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up today to 4! Sue me!Listed in: Korean Restaurants

Not for vegetarians!
I had never had REAL Korean BBQ, so I convinced a group of friends to show me the ropes. I must thank Hen A. and Euge L. for doing a fantastic job with the ordering, and showing me how everything is eaten. We had a delicious feast... I honestly don't know the name of half the things we had, but it was all wonderful! I loved the beef and a spicy tofu dish we ordered (came bubbling in a ceramic pot). The kimchi was also extremely tasty.
The meat is grilled over smoldering charcoal briquets which give it an amazing flavor. Make sure to be prepared to smell like barbeque the rest of the evening, and don't wear any clothes/posessions that you don't want smelling like BBQ! :) Also, come hungry!
FYI, Brother's II is all about the food, not the decor. Enjoy!Listed in: I found it on Yelp!

Review from Fannie S.
I prefer this location a few doors down, from the first one. Why? Because I'm not waiting for a seat and it's just better service!
Food is just as good! I am a fan of their short ribs...omnomnom. I also order their noodles too...the bean-thread ones...
Yeah, it's never cheap for Korean BBQ here, but it's worth it. We only go like two times a year, at most...just a lot of meat! :-D
As is the norm for this area, parking is a real pain!Listed in: Koreanophile.

Review from Pia V.
This location is much bigger then the other one, but the service is lacking at this location.
First walking into the place you can smell the great food. We had to wait 30+ minutes for a table, and not because there was a lack ... but because the tables weren't being bussed quick enough. There were about 4 tables that had dirty silverware on it ... and a few groups just waiting.
After we finally got sat, we ordered, and received our coal. Their sides are great just as the other Brothers down the street and the prices are the same. For some reason they did not give us the same lychee dessert that they gave at the other Brothers at the end of our meal. Even though we saw them give it to the other tables as well ... I guess they ran out? But we did get a complementary soup, just as we did at the other Brothers for our table BBQ dinner. This location gave us more meat, which we did love.
I love that this place is bigger and that they give a bit more meat for my BBQ, but as far as service goes ... I'd go to the other location.
So if service is important to you, then you are better off at the other location. If you just want the same quality food and would rather not have to wait AS long, then this location is best for you.
To be honest I would rather go to the other location, only because the amount of serving this location gives could variate, but service at the other location has always been up to par -- and to me, service is key.
Also, try to make reservations ... although you'll still have to wait at both location reservation or not, your wait will be shorter then usual.Listed in: Korea has Seoul

In re: to brother's (actual email text):
Person #1: I veto Korean BBQ. It's gonna be just like that Asian hot pot place you took us to. I pay for other people to cook my food, not for me to cook it myself.
Person #2: So is that an absolute, pocket or line-item veto?
Person #1: If you all insist on the cook your food yourself and
pay for it restaurant business model, then I will
accept the decision of the group.
Person #3: have you not had Korean BBQ? Deprived child. If you want, we can have them cook everything and bring them out.
*******************
In reality - it was a little of both. They did bring out tasty pre-marinated meat and cooked a bit themselves but for the most part let us cook it.
I actually don't mind it - I think it makes it a more interesting meal.
We had a nice bottle of La Crema that we brought in and I don't believe they charged a corkage fee. Actually, I think the woman couldn't open it so we opened it ourselves.
Basically - the food was tasty, though apparently some of the people in our party didn't feel it was enough. That may have been because I was in front of the grill and I downed all the chicken.
They brought out all this stuff that everyone else recognized and ate but I just pretended to not see it. I believe there was seaweed and other things like that. My loss, I suppose.
We had our own table in the back of the restaurant that looked like a conference room (see pictures). It was REALLY cold back there and they brought out a heater for us, but I was still freezing despite having a sweater.
I have a feeling some of their employees didn't speak english. I asked for water a couple of times and don't think they caught on until I pointed to my cup. On another occasion I asked the guy to leave the water pitcher on the table and we would refill it. He said "ok" and took off and never came back.
I've never been a hard one to please when it comes to food.
This place gets 3 stars for meat, and it lost 2 for the lack of heat and lack of understanding.
The cost per person was $20. I thought it was worth it.
I wouldn't go across the city to go back, but if I was in the neighborhood I would consider going back. -

This place is great :)
It was pretty packed when we got there, which is a good sign. The wait staff was super sweet and attentive. The food is a-maz-ing! And so much! I was stuffed after eating a third of my stone pot rice and seafood.
If you want to do BBQ it is a two person minimum. I went with a vegetarian friend, which is why we ordered off the menu, but her veggie dish was delish as well. I hear the BBQ here is to die for. I want to go back and try it, its a must.
The decor lacks (non-existent really), so if you're looking for some posh eatery, this isn't it. This is a great family run, non-pretentious restaurant that gives you good food to converse over.Listed in: Top Restaurants

I found myself in the mood for some fine Korean Barbecue on Friday night but almost retreated at seeing the line outside Brothers. Luckily, I discovered Brothers II. For some reason, people continue to line up at Brothers when they could walk down just a block and be seated at Brothers II.
There was a short wait for a table where we could barbecue. We ordered the beef and the pork and the feast began. The Kim Chi is excellent, we got the customary "on the house" soup, and dug in. This was all washed down with Ob - a nice Korean beer.
If you're ever in the mood for a feast, this place is it. -

If you like standing around and waiting for a table go to Brothers, if you'd rather be seated and served the kimchi and a beverage in half the time as Brothers go to Brothers II.
The waitresses are far nicer here and the owner is a kind older gentleman. My tip is to forego the "cooking table" and to have the kitchen cook my Bulgolgi and Kalbi. This way I smell less of smoke, I get seated in a fraction of the time, and my hand and face don't end up lobster red had I cooked the meat myself.
Their spicy Pork or Daeji Bulgogi rocks. Slightly spicy and always tender.
When yer hankerin for some good 'ol barbecued meat- this is my watering hole!Listed in: Top Restaurants

IMHO this is the best galbi place! (and this is coming from a fobby korean carnivore.) the marination, the charcoal, and the cut...skip the other stuff...just order the galbi!
they also hook u up with freebies like kimchee stew, sauteed squid, drinks, etc.
oh, always ask if they could grill the bones for u. THIS IS THE BEST PART! don't throw it away. it is so chewy and yummy.
also try grilling the kimchee on the grill. yum-o.
i know some ppl will only go the brother's rest #1 but why? it's the same food and #1 is always more crowded. the service is usu better at #2 anyways.
only negative is that parking is a bee-atch and the rest could use an upgrade. -

Come hungry because the food is good, you will eat a lot, and you will be completely stuffed after. But don't come TOO hungry because although we had a reservation, we still had to wait ~one hour. Starving + having to wait = grouchy. Service is fast in bringing out the food & lighting the grill, however, I had to ask three times before I got water. Two stars less. You get the gist.
Oh and PS: Don't shower & wear "workout" clothes because you will stink after. But I don't blame them for that. -

I never realized there is a cluster of Korean BBQ places on Geary, but I don't live SF so I have a good excuse.
This place was recommended to get a group together for a send off for a friend who's moving away for a few months. It was nice that we had a table in back that was separated from the rest of the restaurant so we could make some noise and we were able to bring in our own wine.
With your order of items to set up on the BBQ in the center of the table, you get a lot of different side dishes, which is nice, however the amount of meat set up for the group was totally inadequate. Additionally the waitress came by and tried to serve the food with the tongs that were sitting on the raw chicken, I'm pretty sure that's a good way to get salmonella in your diet, and I'd rather pass.
Korean BBQ usually means lots of decent meat + rice + kim chee, something I'm always up for, however I just wasn't satisfied with the amount of food here, and while the service staff can not be criticized for a lack of effort, the overall experience fell short. -

Best tasting Korean BBQ you can find in SF.
14 side dishes and a free soup if you order BBQ.
A little problem with the ventilation, but it is neglible.
Recommend it highly.

I love this food - I know you can be lazy and not want to cook and have they do it for you but then that pretty much defeats the point of coming here. You have to cook your own food to experience it all. Charcoal is by far superior to gas and they have a superior supply here.
Again, when I usually go here it's late and busy - but that's all apart of it and it's worth it to say the least. It's a great place for group eating - very communal.
I remember the last time I was there...I was eating with my cousin and her friends. One of her guy friends was sitting right across from me and I caught him staring at me.....I looked back and said "hello" - his reply was "you have very curly eye lashes." Mind you at that moment the world had gone silent to witness said exchange...."thanks." And then the world exploded fast forward back into the noise, smell of cooking. Always an experience at brothers. I do however think their other branch down the street is a more energetic crowd if that your scene. -

I had such a good time at this restaurant - go with a group of friends of at least 4 before you come here, and it usually helps with at least one friend is familiar with the Korean BBQ process and the food names.
We had the BBQ beef and pork and we (well, my 2 friends) cooked it up on a coal bbq. We got all of the delicious side dishes like kimchee, vegetables, bean sprouts, plus we also ordered dumplings and mung bean egg patties - yum! You have to try this place at least once! -

I came here on the Fourth of July to celebrate our great nation's birthday with BBQ that I didn't have to cook.
I want to remember all the little side dishes that we got. And all the seconds that came out without asking for them. And the fresh, crispy lettuce. And the salty seaweed. And the top notch meats. And the cool wood coals that came out white hot. Mmm. -
Review from Marco M.
Well, if you don't mind the blast furnace style heat of the table BBQ's, then you're in for a treat! Traditional Korean BBQ done right. Nothing fancy, just yummy meat and all the accoutrement.
If you're seeking something fancy schmancy, this will not be the spot for you - but if you have that craving for charry, tasty, yummy meat products, and you have no issues keeping it casual - Brothers is an SF institution! -

The food is good and there are plenty of side dishes. Great for big groups especially since there are two locations within the next block. It is however pretty pricey for Korean BBQ.

I've become familiar with Korean restaurants over the last couple years. Last nite while at dinner we wondered aloud what really makes one Korean restaurant better than another? The question is still open.
Growing up Mexican and eating home cooked Mexican food gives me a non-verbal "feel" for good Mexican food. I would reason that maybe Korean food works the same way?
The first visit to Brothers II was about a month ago and we decided to go there based on a few factors: 1) Yelp review, ) Brothers I was packed and we were hungry as hell, and 3) Brothers II was hella close to Brothers I, so we went with the place with no wait ;-)
So after having been there twice I would say the food is consistent. We had a squid dish with veggies and Bo go ki(BBQ beef) both times and it is as good as I've had any place else. We also tried a noodle dish this time which I really like. I believe they were glass noodles mixed with some veggies. I love the tea and tried the OB beer this time around. I found the OB beer to be tastier than the usual Hite lager.
Staff is very friendly, place is clean and service is quick. Since it's in my gurl's new hood, we'll be back for sure. -

I usually go to Korean restaurants in the San Jose area so this was new territory for me! I asked my Korean co-workers about some restaurants they would recommend and this was on the list.
We saw there was a very long line at Brothers 1 so we luckily got a parking spot near Brothers 2 and decided to give it a try instead. (Too hungry to wait in line and the other yelpers said this one was equally good)
We were not disappointed. Kalbi was very good and tender. The ban chan was excellent and we even got this great Korean soup on the house. I can't remember the name, but will try to describe it to my Korean co-workers and then update this review.
Dinner was followed by this sweet rice drink (googling this brings up the name Shik Hae) which was delicious! Service was excellent as well but they seemed to be a little amused by the amount of refills we wanted for certain banchan dishes we really loved. -

AGAIN people need to remember this is a true Asian restaurant. People complain about lack of service but thats just how it is. Once you get your food your good. They aren't going to wait on you hand and foot.
I have NEVER had a problem getting anything once I signaled a server and asked.
Only 4 stars, because it is a bit pricey. BUT it is one of the few places left in the whole bay area that still uses wood charcoal.
We only go to Brothers 2... way less busy and crowded and only a 1.5 blocks away.
A great place to take visiting people and experience something other than white food. -

We decided to come here on the recommendation of some Korean friends. And when we saw the reviews, we decided that we had to try it! We drove by Brothers Original but there was a packed line and happened to park in front of Brothers II. It was busy but still had available tables, and based on reviews, decided that there wouldn't really be any difference. So, in we went to Brothers II.
The service was quick and efficient, and at the end of the meal, the register lady was super nice, telling us the name of various dishes.
We got Kalbi which came with 10 banchan dishes, the usual stuff (fish cakes, kim chee, bean sprouts, seaweed, and they also had a yummy preserved daikon dish). They also brought out a pot of this bubbling stew, which I couldn't touch because of my soy allergy (lots of tofu in it and likely soy based soup), on the house. It was too bad, because it looked and smelled delicious and according to my sister, it was. Oh well! The kalbi itself was tasty, but I do admit that I have a different restaurant which I do prefer taste-wise.
Don't wear anything fancy because you will smell of Korean food upon departure. When we walked in, I could actually see the smoke billowing through the restaurant.
This place is good. I would definitely recommend it! -

I really did love this place at one point, and correction it is owned by Korean and not Chinese. I could have sworn the meats were marinated a lot better and portions were bigger, not so much anymore. However it does receive a 4 instead of 3 star because (1) good variety of ban chan, but I do wish they had the rice noodle papers like LA, (2) freebies like jap chae and (3) charcoal fire instead of regular gas.

Daly City, CA
It was okay, I was there for dinner.
Like everyone here has noted, the decor is less than appealing. It looks like they just bought the place and put in new carpets without repainting the place.
The food was decent, and they kept serving us rice and side dishes, which was cool. While most of the side dishes were good, the kim chee was bad, really bad.
We had the noodles which were nice and chewy, beef, chicken, and pork. I didn't like the seasoning on the pork, but it wasn't bad. I don't know about the smell, but it's been drafty lately, so it was cold and they had heat lamps up (which wasn't necessary after the grill had been started up.
I am a meat-eater, so it was a good night, especially since we got to use the big back room.
My cousin was saying this place was good, and to be honest, #1 is better. -

So you're telling me there is a restaurant where I can cook my own delicious marinated pork AND smell and feel like I'm at a bonfire? Score!
Even my dad, who is about the least worldly person I know when it comes to food, absolutely loved Brothers II.
The service is quick and friendly. The servers help you cut up the meat and make sure you are making the most of the grill surface area.
I'm not a big fan of all that pickled god knows what they bring you for appetizers, but the main course makes up for it.
Added bonus: There was a long wait at Brothers I and we got seated immediately at Brothers II.
If you love eating animals you will love Brothers II. -

A vegetarian eating at a Korean BBQ place... you've got to be kidding right?
I have a lot of meat-loving friends, and they decided that a Korean BBQ place would be the perfect place for a huge pre-Graduation get-together. Not wanting to miss out on all the fun, I decided to go too.
I tried looking online for a menu to see what my options would be, but I couldn't find anything. I walked into the restaurant not knowing what to expect at all. Would I be forced to subsist on hot tea and ice cubes for the night?
Luckily, when I asked our super nice waitress about vegetarian options, she said they could make me a special vegetarian chop chae and add some tofu to it. If you see something else you like on the menu that you want to make vegetarian, just ask and they'll accommodate!
There is a small room in the back of the restaurant with a big table that is perfect for group get-togethers. The restaurant looks pretty shabby and blah, but the waitstaff was friendly and they didn't get mad at our big group for sitting in the restaurant for three hours talking and laughing loudly and basically acting like super annoying jerks. They even gave us complimentary cans of coke!
Be sure to call ahead to reserve the big table for groups because all the other tables in the restaurant are tiny.
My carnivorous friends enjoyed their meat fest like savages, and my vegetarian chop chae was pretty tasty! Overall, we all had a great time and dinner Brother's II gave us some pretty amazing pre-Graduation week memories! -

So I asked my Korean friends where to eat good Korean food. They ALL said BROTHERS...so I tried it.
Pros:
SUPER good food.
Quick service
Quick eats, since it's raw (you cook it yourself)
Cons:
kinda pricey at $20 a person (no drinks)
