I'm not sure what the big deal is with this place. I was quite excited to find out a supposedly authentic New York deli was somewhere on the peninsula. It wasn't terribly authentic, and it wasn't terribly good.
I had a half pastrami sandwich. The pastrami was kind of bland. It certainly could have used more fat. I tried my wife's brisket sandwich and there was a kind of odd sweet taste to it. The fries were the frozen kind, but not too bad.
All in all, if you're jonesing for some good deli stuff, this place will come about as close as it gets to decent east coast deli. But if you want that real authentic stuff, keep looking. -

I've been going to Brother's Deli since 1983 when it was in Burlingame. I remember the matzo ball soup, the blintzes, pastrami and corned beef sandwiches. The potato salad...yum!
Something happened between then and the late 90's. The food got more and more mediocre. The last time I dined there was 2002. Since then the B'game location shut down and I find them on Broadway in Millbrae.
I'm thinking, what the heck, I'm hungry...and the call of corned beef hash and eggs call to me like the sirens to Titan. I go in, there are only 4 other tables filled amongst the 20 or so booths in place. Well, it took about 15 minutes for the wait person to take my order and only because I shot her the death glare. I was thinking I should have left like the old woman by the window who got tired of waiting and decided her time was worth more than shoddy service.
Anyway, I ordered the corned beef hash and eggs (poached). The eggs were perfect. Not many places know how to poach eggs properly, they did an awesome job. The corned beef hash was house made and good. A bit on the dry side but at least it didn't come out of a can all mushy and ...Listed in: Restaurants

Too Bad Brother's Deli is not what it used to be. Whenever I visited Burlingame, I would go to lunch at Brother's. They had the best fresh homemade hash. It was made from corned beef and pastrami. Delicious!
But that was some years ago. Things change. -

So I'm a JAP at heart. I even know some of the readings from the Torah-kosher ;) I have to say that this place has the best Jew food out of NYC. The matzoh ball soup is tasty-better than anywhere in SF! The potato latke's are delicious and not over fried. Ask for both apple sauce and sour cream to shmear allover them-mmmmmmmmm! I also ordered the Onion Roll Special with ALL pastrami meat-its a healthy pastrami sandwich. Lots of meat piled high! I actually like the pastrami to be fattier = tastier! I didn't see any fresh Halvah for sale (maybe they were sold out), but overall go get your KOSHER fix here!
One complaint: I miss the old location-the new one is too diner-ish and the hours of operation seemed longer at the OG location :( -

We were seated immediately - this place is never packed (for good reason i'm sure...). Our waitress hastily took our order and never once smiled. She did her job, but with total disdain. I hate service ppl like that - why face the public if your going to be like that? Get a job in the back or be an assembly line worker. I dont know. It's YOUR problem- don't make it MINE!
In anycase, I got the corned beef hash and eggs (over easy) & have to agree with Maggie K. I ate the whole thing & it satisfied my taste buds but I found it a tad drier than I'd normally like it. Good thing I got my eggs over easy to balance it out. The portions were good and the prices were fair. However, given the overall mediocrity of the place... i'll go elsewhere. -

My Mom and I used to enjoy going to the Brother's Deli in Burlingame. I particularly loved their Home Made Chicken-Vegetable Soup and their Huge Sandwiches. They closed and .................
One night as I was traveling to Solo Mio, one of my favorite Italian Restaurants located on Broadway, Millbrae, I noticed that the Brother's Deli had re-opened on Broadway.
I had a bowl of Chicken Soup and it was nothing like it was in Burlingame. Not at all Home Made, more like some sort of Frankenstein Canned Soup....so damn salty, noodles were like Chinese Noodles and mushy... NO Chicken in the soup.
It was so salty, you could float a piece of cement in it.
The waitress tried to tell me that nothing had changed as far as the ownership and cook. But I noted a Chinese Cook I didn't recognize talking fluent Cantonese... never heard that in the Burlingame location.... how things have changed for the worse. The Sandwich, a Pastrami was thick but it was lacking in flavor and condiments.
Service was unprofessional and indifferent.
Stay away for health's sake.
UPDATE 5/1/2008 While trying to find a parking place to grab a delicious hot dog from the Famous Frankfooter, noticed that the Brothers Deli is now PETER's Cafe. Don't know who the owner is or the identity of the cook. I'll stay away until someone yelps it with over 3 stars. -

meaty beefy sandwiches packed tight with over an inch of thin deli sliced meats...half pickle with choice of potato salad or coleslaw...(optional french fries at an additional $1.50)....whole sandwiches served on standard choices of sliced breads....halves available at reduced prices...about $10 for a whole...$6 for half
shrimp louis salad...half order seemed like a full serving...loaded with shrimp....served with 1000 island...i'm scared to know how big a full serving is...$9 for half....$12 for full....Listed in: peninsula eats

There was some legend that the original proprietors of this place no longer owned it, but their former cooks had taken it over and had maintained the "quality." Barf! I've spent way too much of my time driving around the Bay Area looking for a quality deli and I have yet to find one.

Recently went here for lunch with friend before heading out to the Haight :) and walked out being satisfied and full. Friend and I shared a Reuben and a large Chinese Chicken salad. The Reuben was REALLY good and it wasn't too overwhelming...the fries were regular whatever, but the Chicken salad was HUGE, and the dressing was super yummy. Sorry, HUGE HUGE Chicken salad, friend and I split and that already got me 80% full...thank god we were shopping that day otherwise i think my jeans would have split. :D Thankfully they didn't. Not particularly good or bad, just a place with good food and okay prices! :) Your regular friendly neighboorhood deli!
