Ok, I admit it.  I'm absolutely addicted to this place.  The bf and I came to bend for three days and we ate there THREE TIMES.  We would have eaten every meal here over those three days if I had my way.

The bf tried a couple of the beers that they had on tap.  Squatters Hop Rising Double IPA was just OK - it just didn't taste very IPA-y.  The Hopworks Urban Brewery IPA is definitely a good pick but next time we'll try the Boneyard RPM IPA!

Now onto the food - HUMUNGOUS portions at a VERY FAIR price!  They use high quality fresh ingredients and really season their food well!  We tried the following menu items:

    - Buffalo Macaroni:  4 stars - I loved this because it brought back a bit of nostalgia.  It reminded me of an adult version of Hamburger Helper.  A word of caution - pop your antacids before you eat this dish because the chef is very heavy-handed with the cheese.  This comes with a side salad which we downed with a side of their house-made Dill Ranch dressing.  I'm a HUGE sauce connoisseur, especially when it comes to Ranch and their version is among the best I've had!

    - Hickory Smoked 1/2 Rack of Ribs: 5 stars (but I'd give it a 10 out of 5 if I could).  These were SO delicious and I'm not even a huge fan of BBQ.  They were tender, fall-off-the-bone, cooked perfectly, VERY MEATY ribs w/ just the right amount of char, sauce and fat.  These were SO delicious that we actually ordered them two days in a row!  The fresh hand-cut fries with sea salt were RIDICULOUS.  I swear by McDonald's fries but these gave them a run for their money.  Ask for a side of their dill ranch to dip them in and that'll put them over-the-top.

    - Ranch Burger w/ Hand Cut Fries: 5 stars - Wow, honestly....I think this is the best burger I've ever had.  If you're trying to decide on which burger to order, you can't go wrong with this one!  I believe their buns are made by Sparrow Bakery and are a nice soft complement to the delicious burger.

    - Brother Jon's Chicken Sandwich: 3.5 stars - The bf LOVED this but I tend to like my food smothered in sauce and fat so this was a little too "healthy" for me!  Definitely worth ordering if you're looking for a lighter meal.  The chicken breast was moist and grilled well and it comes on that stellar Sparrow Bakery bun!  We opted to order this with veggies but definitely upgrade to the fries for an extra $1.50 if you can afford the splurge!

    - Full Cobb Salad:  5 stars of PURE WOW!  This is the most awesome salad I have ever had IN MY LIFE.  Get it with the dill ranch instead of the blue cheese dressing.  Since the salad already comes with a huge scoop of blue cheese, sub-ing ranch makes it less overwhelming.  This salad is HUGE enough to feed two.

Everything about this place is awesome.  It's filled with friendly locals who all seem to know each other!  The place is buzzing with energy!  The only downside is that the wait can be 45+ minutes during busy times!

We can't wait to come back here!

I was a little disappointed. We shared the Reuben and the bread was totally soggy on the bottom half and it was not heated all the way through. A good Reuben should have toasty bread and hot pastrami, mine had neither. I think it would have been good, though, if it were prepared correctly.

I like the fries, my wife was not a big fan, depends on your taste I guess. But they were fresh and a large portion for sure. We didn't care for "the bomb" sauce by itself, but I seriously loved it when I mixed it up with some ketchup.

The beer list was very good, plenty of good options.

Service was a little slow, but they knew it and were apologetic and comped a brownie for us, even though we weren't complaining about anything - so that was nice.

Great place to eat.  Got there for an early dinner on a Sunday and not crowded, YET.  The service is excellent there.  The waitresses are very attentive and very congenial too.  That's always one thing I need to keep going back to a place.  I live in LA but go to Bend a lot because I love the area.  The burger I got was a little too char broiled thus the 4 star.  The bacon in it was excellent.  The fresh veggies that come with it were great too.  I will definitely go there again.

Since my last review Brother Jon's has definitely won me over.  I can't say that I ever tried the nachos again, but the rest of their food has been consistently great.  I can honestly say that two of their specials (their daily specials are better than their regular menu most of the time) have been the best meals I have had in Bend since I arrived in 2004.  I will continue to go.

Is it just me or has the quality of the food at Bro Jon's gone downhill since they opened up their second location? Normally, I am pretty wowed by their food- quality and portion for the price. The last couple times I have gone in and eaten, it has just been okay. Hopefully this is not a new trend.  Either way, I still love this place. Cozy, warm, and lively atmosphere. Definitely more of a locals' hangout-I run into at least one or two people I know every time!  Great beers on tap, knowledgeable and friendly servers, reasonable pricing, and decent food. Sometimes great food!  I have been a fan of their monster-sized salads (even the small is huge!), burgers (all double patties. you have been warned.), Reuben is tasty, and if you happen to be there on a night they are serving meatloaf- do it. You will not be sorry. The only thing I was not crazy about was the Captain Jack Sparrow sandwich-the pulled pork smelled like feet! But this was recently. I read other very positive reviews of this sandwich, maybe I will give it another shot? Anyway.  Best of all is the fact that they serve dinner late-open until 10 or 11 depending on the night (Why do so many places stop serving at 9 around here? Even on the weekend?! ) My honey and I are generally later eaters so this works out quite nicely for us. All of the above, combined with a convenient location makes Brother Jon's grrrreeaat!

Passing through Bend on vacation we found this place through Yelp and we were not dissapointed. My husband had the half rack of ribs and I had the Mac and Cheese. Everything we had was delicious, and the servings large enough that I even had leftovers.
The service was exceptional! Even though we obviously weren't regulars they treated us like we were.
I agree with other reviewers that parking is minimal; we were lucky to get one of the two parking spaces in front.

Great Food and Beer selection.  The Captain Jack Sparrow has taken over as my favorite sandwich in Bend (sorry BBQ pit sandwich at Cascade Lakes).  How can you go wrong with sweet pulled pork stacked on top of more pork, smothered with cheese and immersed with sauce? And it's healthy because it has fruit - a grilled pineapple.

    Pulled porkgasim!

Great local spot with wonderful food and an assortment of local beers on tap with even more in bottle.

The service was friendly and attentive.  Brother Jon's was busy at 2:00 PM on a Thursday and for a reason.  They are a great local joint with a casual feel that serves up really delicious food.

We had their pulled pork ("Captain Jack Sparrow") sandwich with fresh house-made kettle chips.  Between my wife and I the sandwich was enough food to enjoy, but not enough to stuff us.  We opted to top off our meal with their multi-berry cobbler Ala mode and were happily surprised.

If you're looking for a relaxed place with a whole host of regional beers and awesome food in a relaxed environment with affordable, but not cheap, food then Brother Jon's Public House is the place to be.

We were in and out for under $20 after tip.

Great local beers, even better locals to chill with, and enough amazing food that I always had leftovers.

Being in town for about 10 days on business, my hours at work were often late, and Brother Jon's kitchen was always there when I needed them.  I'd intended to do take-out my first night there, and just loved the vibe enough I stayed for dinner instead.  Chill enough people that one guy let me sit at his table so I could watch the hockey game on TV without twisting around after every bite of my food at the bar.

Buffalo Mac & Cheese (with bacon - thumbs-up to Wrong D for the tip!) was extraordinary.  I know I ate something else there at least once...but it paled in comparison.  Can't wait to go back.

This was my second outing to Brother Jon's. I played it safe and ordered the macaroni and cheese again and it was just as fabulous as the first time. It comes with a salad, which could be a meal by itself, and 2 pieces of bread. The mac and cheese is very gooey and cheesey and you could easily feed 2 people with this dish.

My only complaint is the noise level. The place was only half full and I could barely hear my lunchmates and had to repeat myself or ask someone to repeat themselves often.

Usually when I love a restaurant it's because there is something on the menu that I love. One thing. And usually in those cases if I get crazy and order anything but the one thing I love, I'm disappointed to have lost the opportunity to eat the thing I really like. At Brother Jon's I've had five different things from the menu and I have yet to establish a favorite. The toughest thing looking over the menu is deciding which ones NOT to get.  I don't know of any other place with so many things that I absolutely love. I no longer live in Bend and brother Jon's is one of the things I miss the most.
    The things I love:
    Buffalo Mac
    Eggless Carbonara
    Captain Jack Sparrow Sandwich
    Club Sandwich
and.. I can't think of the other thing.

Mind you, these are just the things I've had. I hesitate to try another new thing, because it's already hard enough to choose from the list of favorites such as it is...

Good job Brother Jon's! Best place in bend for great food/beer/service/time!

I've only eaten here once and it was while waiting for a tattoo appointment to Mum's next door. I thought the food was fine. I was a little underwhelmed at the time (and this was about a year and half ago) by the fact that it looks basically like a deli inside. I was really expecting more of a pub feel or even sports bar. It was quite empty and felt like the staff was just waiting for us to ask for something more, which means they were attentive, but also can feel overbearing.
Since I don't live in Bend anymore, I won't be going there anytime soon, but I do feel like I would try them again to get a better feel or maybe on a night where there was something going on at the restaurant or around the neighborhood.

Oh Bro-Jo, you do me good.
This is a locals-catering restaurant on Bend's westside, offering a ton of great microbrews and a nice publike food menu. A few signature items like the buffalo mac aren't epic, but they grow on you. The potions are large and the prices are very good.

The atmosphere is minimal, just an old westside house converted, with some posters and paintings on the walls, a few televisions, and a small bar that seats five or six. They play Phish and the Dead on occasion, a nice touch, but usually the crowd is way loud, especially at peak dinner hours. There's only a dozen tables (and outside in summer), and not really room to wait, so just make sure you go sometime other than 6-730 any night.
The service is impeccable, especially with the place being so small and the same staff has been there since opening. They'll recognize you by your third visit.

Just like the famous old potato chip tag line  "I betcha can't eat just one just one ", I imagine it would be impossible to go to Brother Jon's once and not want to go back again. Four stars for Brother Jon's! Here's why:

The whole charmingly funky  vibe says "welcome".

That greeting is continued by the very friendly service.

Plus it smells so darned good as you walk in (they were making ribs today which contributed to the "aaaaaahhhhhh-roma") that you want to eat.

And the sandwiches, salads, soups, and daily specials (like those ribs) on the regular menu and specialty blackboard are so affordable. The reasonable prices are particularly noteworthy when it is evident they use quality products. (As in Carlton pork .)

Three of us enjoyed a succulent and savory pulled pork sandwich, that came on a good bun and with delicious coleslaw ($9), a grilled portobello mushroom, spinach, roasted red bell pepper and cheese sandwich ($9) and a generous half size Cobb salad ($7). Sandwiches came with a nice side of raw veggies - our choice and very good - or chips.

The restaurant has some outdoor seating on a patio right outside the rear door.

For friends who think of accessiblity, a note that there is accessible parking with a navigable ramp up to the patio dining and door.  But I imagine it would be a tight squeeze for a wheelchair (or stroller) given the tight positioning of outdoor (picnic style) tables along the path that also look too heavy to be easily moved out of the way..

The cozy interior can feel tight on evenings when the place is hopping with customers, especially in winter months when the patio isn't open for overflow seating. But at lunch time, when it was full but not packed, Brother Jon's had a sense of pleasant crowding, not sardine can seating.

    All good!

Great food and service. Had half a Cobb that was about the best I've ever had with apple smoked bacon and pulled chicken and the Jack Sparrow sandwich is going to be a favorite. The combo of the grilled onions, melted cheese, pulled pork and sweet, rum pineapple is to die for. Best hand cut french fries too. The waitress was super helpful in suggesting beer for my husband and I had an Arnold Palmer that she mixed table side. Needless to say we won't be needing any dinner.

We went at 4:30 just after work and to avoid the dinner rush. Great food, made from scratch. Portions were huge. You can get by with the half portions on the salads. Prices were cheap.  The mac and cheese was better than Mom's (sorry Mom!). Soups and salads were great as well. Great choice of beers.

I see others have written about poor service. I went for lunch once and service was slow. But for dinner the waitstaff was prompt and very helpful in telling us about different items on the menu and letting us sample different items.

First, I wish Yelp offered 2-1/2 stars.  That's what I would give Brother Jon's (BJ).  We just returned and I have to say, "Meh, I've had better.".

Second, you will not go away hungry.  The portions are big enough to satisfy an all-day outdoor activity.  We just rode our mountain bikes for five hours today, with lot's of climbing and technical stuff (that's work).

I had the Brother Jon Burger with fries, and my wife had the pulled-pork sandwich.  The fries were mostly crispy, but had too many soggy ones (psst, the trick is called twice-fried - look it up).  The burger was decent enough, but nothing special.  My wife's pulled-pork was too sweet, and much too much sauce.  We were both in agreement on that.

We will return.  Well, frankly, I will head to Ten Barrels (TB) first since it is a block away.  If I have to wait (there's always a wait at TB) more than 1/2 hour, I could see coming over here again.

BJ is a 3 block walk, and TB is 4, so that's sweet for us.  So my recommendation is try TB, if your wait is too long, come to BJ's.

Okay so this place is next to 10 Barrel and in my opinion it way better food wise.  They are not a brewery but you can get 10 barrel beers on tap here.  It is smallish like 10 barrel and fills up fast but I have not been dissapointed by the fare ever.  I have eaten here more than 5 times and loved every meal.  Again, if you have a big party go some where else.  If you are tow or three or even four you can make this a treat.

If I lived in Bend I think this would be my go-to place for a pint and some grub. The prices are SO reasonable...$3.50 for a pint of frothy goodness? Sandwiches well under $10? I think the most expensive thing are a couple of the entrees and they are still under $12 or so.

JP and I first checked this place out in early August...I had read it had recently opened and we were renting a house in the hood so we strolled down. The food was tasty and we walked out of there spending $30 or so for 4 pints, a BBQ pork and Portabella....and it was all good! Staff was great even though it was a busy Saturday night. There is a nice patio space out back too for any spillover or simply to enjoy a nice evening outside.

The interior is a bit awkward since it was once a bungalow, but they make it work to the best of their ability.  Plus you've got to like the TVs for sports viewing and the dart board (for real darts, not horrible plastic tipped ones).

Went back for trip #2 this past week. After the long drive from Seattle I was HUNGRY! They no longer had the Twilight on draft so I had to settle for the Green Lakes Organic, which I don't like as much (that's just my opinion you can have yours!). JP ordered the enchiladas, which were ho-hum, but I went big and selected the buffalo mac....oh cheesy goodness...it was giant portion of elbow mac, cheese, ground buffalo, more cheese, peas, cheese, tomatoes and jalapenos some more cheese. I COULD have probably eaten the entire thing if I didn't have to fit into a wedding dress in a few days...it was damn good!  The jalapenos add such a nice kick too!

We will be back when we are down for some skiing/snowboarding this winter. And for the rest of you...stick to what they do right...the sandwiches or the buffalo mac...just make sure you leave some for me!

The Captain Jack Sparrow sandwich had my husband practically in tears - "This is the best sandwich I've ever eaten. Ever." Said the man who is not prone to hyperbole. We really enjoyed the spinach salad, too.

It gets crowded and very, very loud during a game or Fridays after work, but everyone feels like friends, which just adds to the authenticity of the "Public House" title.

When travelling we don't like to eat out a lot. We usually do a late lunch and, hopefully, take leftovers back with us.

I have to say that Brother Jon's is well worth the money and gives you plenty.

From the Buffalo Mac (which you HAVE to get) to the Captain Sparrow to the Portobello sandwich, all are well worth the price and will leave you full. We were able to take the Mac with us and have it for two more meals as a side.

The ONLY bad thing I would say about the restaurant is its small size and very limited parking. We ended up having to hike it a few blocks, and this was at 2:00 in the afternoon, not the usual lunch crowd size! Be forewarned that at busy times of the day, you may end up working off your meal with where you end up parking.

Other than that, it is definitely a great place for cheap, but very good, eats.

We ate here while we were in town for the beard & mustache nationals. Some of our local friends recommended it, and it did not disappoint!
The buffalo mac & Cheese was delicious, so was the a sandwich i had. Good service, good food and drinks, what more could you want?

Great beer selection and top notch food. Staff was friendly and food was served fast. The seating is a little tight, but food and drinks make up for it.

I came out to Bend to mountain bike and stopped by this place on Yelp recommendation.  The menu was somewhat limited, but I had a delicious sandwich of pulled pork and the beers were awesome.  I love when you go to a place like this and the waitress describes the beer as "aromatic, light, with a touch of hops and citrus".  My buddy got the mac and cheese which was just okay in my opinion.  We split some wings which though maybe not freshly made on the premises were quite good.
