I can't believe my favorite wing shop in NYC is closed, well at least this location.  Glad I found out before making the trek our next trip. I guess I'll have to try another Jimmy's.

This was my favorite eat spot when I lived in NYC.  Even when returning for a visit, my wife insisted that we eat there at least twice a visit.

I suppose there's no since really reviewing it then.  R.I.P. Brother Jimmy's upper east side

Walked by here yesterday on the way to the gym and saw that it is now closed! Wow -when did that happen? Must have been recently. The whole place is gutted and emptied out. Signs are on all the windows telling people to take a picture of it and visit the 2nd Ave and 77th street location for a 20% discount.

Before my current diet and self imposed bad food exile I used to like visiting this place for a quick BBQ fix as it was close by. Their White Trash Wednesday deal put on the pounds, and will be missed, but at least my waist line is happier now!

No biggie, as the location on 77th and 2nd is a bit livelier anyway and not too far from my street if I ever get the hankering for some ribs, brisket, and Natty Lights.

    Listed in: Yes, I have a drinking…, UES eats above 86th Street, DIVE-TASTIC!!!, What's in a name? Surely you…, Steak & Ribs & BBQ - Oh My!

New to the UES, the live music here is great. That said, the people working here, especially a guy named "Scotty", don't understand common courtesy when speaking to people. He was the rudest person ever, putting words into my mouth about an inquiry I made regarding music and singing. When I tried to remediate the situation by apologising for my misunderstanding, his response was that of a spoiled child ("you were wrong to call and ask me a question, yeah that's right you were wrong" with a sarcastic "goodnight") and totally unprofessional.

Want to be treated poorly? They'll definitely be able to deliver on that front.

Want to hear great live music or catch a game at the bar? This is a good place for that and thus the stars (can't get 5 stars with rude employees, sorry). Scotty's attitude and the whole interaction with him has made me consider ever going back.

My friends and I had a craving for wings one Sunday afternoon while watching football, so we ordered delivery from here. We ordered buffalo wings with a side of mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. The prices were fairly decent (not super cheap, but not too pricey). The delivery was relatively quick as well.

The wings were pretty good, with the right amount of spiciness. It came with blue cheese dipping sauce and celery sticks (customary of wings in general, of course). The mac and cheese was sub-par. It was so thick that when you tried to break off a piece, the macaroni just stuck together and broke apart wherever you inserted the fork. The macaroni wouldn't separate. The mashed potatoes were pretty good though. The gravy comes already mixed in with the mashed potatoes in the container, which I found interesting.

I definitely enjoyed my meal, though I'm not sure it was worth the price. I'd probably order from here/come here if a BBQ craving hits and I'm feeling too lazy to venture out. Other than that, I could find better elsewhere.

If you're a karaoke enthusiast like myself, you know nothing gets your blood pumping like a live band behind you.  That's why I had to check out Rockstar Karaoke on Saturday night, and it didn't disappoint.

The place is really small and the band plays in this little nook near the entrance and you don't have a lot of room to move about, but the set list is really solid and the band and hostest kind of dominate.  I got a chance to rock out two songs (standard "Faith" and the new "Fuck You") and listen to some fun tunes by everyone else.  Also, the wait staff was super cool (thanks Kelly) and, per usual, the prices were pretty average.

As a Sourthern girl myself I love me some good BBQ.  My company ordered in for us today and I tasted quite a sampler of mac and cheese, bbq chicken, mashed potatoes with white gravy, salad, fish, some kind of hushpuppy, and grilled veggies.  The hushpuppy I could take of leave but I ate me some mashed potatoes and gravy.  YUUUUMMMM.  I hope I can go there for breakfast and get that gravey with biscuits!  I can feel myself getting fatter as I write this.  Gym tonight!  But it was worth it.

Easy & fun place where me and 7 of my coresidents celebrated our last day of hospital slavery!!  We arrived right when it opened at 5 for the Happy Hour special..$2 frozen margaritas (peach, mango, strawberry), $2budlight, $3well drinks, 1/2 off appetizers (only applies at the bar). Since we were the only ones there we tried to convince them to let us sit at the table and order 1/2 off apps there but they denied us so all of us went to the bar.

    Service:
Our bartender seemed very standoffish at first...but when she found out it was our last day she gave us shots on the house, took every shot w us, and gave us a fishbowl on the house. Yes!

    Food:
Try the Frickles!!! Granted anything fried is amazing, these are super duper amazing!
Super humongous Nachos: humongous they are, but beware... This was hard to eat bc the chips get soggy so fast
Ribtips:  just can't go wrong yum!
Wings: salty... But good w beer
Quesadilla: nobody ate this..the cheese inside was all solidified and gross

By 8 the place was packed. Its a nice casual nonglamorous afterwork destination, perfect for large groups!

Didn't love it. The southern style sweet tea was pathetic. It had no ice, it was NOT sweet and no lemon. Brother Jimmy's is like a ChinaTown knock off of southern food, it looks like southern food but lacks the quality.

This place is absolutely awesome, but it only gets four stars for one reason: it's BBQ is absolutely terrible.

The Bait Shack is arguably the best bar in Carnegie Hill and has great service with a smile. Deliveries come quick and sit-down service is equally great. The menu is your standard imagined Southern fare for Yankees, including cocktails served out of fishbowls, mason jars and other such oddities. BBQ appetizers are fantastic, but nothing trumps their cheeseburgers at this location.

However, the real problem here is that there's no smoke pit - an essential for BBQ at any restaurant. Their brisket isn't that great, and their $25 BBQ meal is far overpriced for the quality of food served. Regardless, the Bait Shack is one of my "go-to" places when I'm back home, and I'd tell anyone to hit it up if they were around my old hood.

Of the four that I've been to (this, Upper West, Penn and Murray Hill...are there anymore?), this is probably my favorite Brother Jimmy's and I really don't know why.  Came here on a Friday after work - margaritas were cheap and perfect.  Got pretty crowded as the night went on, but we managed to get a table and the food was good.

People started dancing in the middle of the room, which is always entertaining.  Good music and fun people.  Smaller than the rest of them, but cozy and relaxed.

Great barbecue and fast delivery! Their Mac and cheese is SINFULLY good and their mashed potatoes are also heavenly. I can't talk a whole lot about their barbecue because I don't eat meat but their wings I've heard are really tasty. I had their popcorn shrimp and it was a little spicy which I loved! Their fries are disappointing when you get delivery because they are limp and kind of tasteless so I'll have to see if they are any better when you dine in. Overall really yummy BBQ sides and they're very nice!!

I've been to this particular Brother Jimmy's several times now, since its just around the corner from my apartment.

This place is always fairly busy (not too busy), however, this means that the food can take some time. The bartender mentioned yesterday that they have a small kitchen with one fire, so the food tends to come out a lot slower.

Drinks are always strong enough and the staff is very friendly. I'm a big fan of BBQ - and its not my favorite BBQ - but its decent if you want something fairly fast. They have great daily deals too! I'm glad this place is right aroundt he corner from me.. makes it super easy to visit!

Whether you have a group of 15 people celebrating a huge birthday or are looking for a nice place to just sit and watch a game this is simply the place to be. They have a great happy hour special, $2 bud and bud light and I believe frozen margaritas (the kind that come out of the slushy machine). For those that like it they have a decent selection of bourbon and overly fruity mixed drink specials. They "have" wine (the choices are red or white) and I've seen people order it (friends of mine even) but you really don't want to be "that guy" having wine at Brother Jimmy's.

The food is really great. I'm not an expert in BBQ but I do know what I like and Brother Jimmy's has it. Definitely worth a try are the frickles and the hot wings. I'd also highly recommend the hush puppies because the maple butter they come with is just fantastic. For mains the Northern style ribs (juicy and extremely tender) are my favorite along with the buffalo chicken sandwich. Also of note are the pulled pork dinner and pulled chicken sandwich. Of the 5 types of sauces they give you on the table my personal favorites are the Blazin' and the Chipotle or sometimes a mix of the two.

The staff here are always friendly, starting when you walk through the door the bouncer always greets you with a smile. Bartenders, hostesses and waitresses are always helpful and cheerful and the service is almost always extremely quick.

My college roommate and I "grew up" at the Brother Jimmy's on second ave (I think our record was four times in the same week) but the demographic there has changed a bit recently. The crowd at the Bait Shack is a little more under control and perfect for people who have come to accept the fact that college ended several years ago. This IS the bar of choice for the UES.

Have you ever imagined what a menu would look like if it were to include all of your favorite foods? *
    Now think of the opposite.

I consider the Brother Jimmy's menu akin to the soundtrack of all the movies I wished I hadn't seen.
Quesadillas/nachos/wings/ribs/salad.....all of it. I didn't think it was possible to make a bad quesadilla. It is.
    Service is okay.
Scene is typical UES sports bar.

I originally planned to give BJ's one star. However, they play classic, southern rock - plus one.

My thoughts - if you end up camping at Brother Jimmy's, go for the drinks & the tunes. Skip the food.

Better yet, don't go. The Allman Brothers will forgive you.

My ex-girlfriend wouldn't come here under any circumstances......not even to blow her nose during allergy season. She hates dive bars, it's close to her place so begging her to go in for a drink every time we walked by was an amusing way to cause tension in the relationship (and she's my ex why?).

However, after going to school in Texas for four years, this is a great way to get back to the feel of the ol' college days. Since I hate going back and being "That guy," this is a fun place to hang out with fellow alums when they're in town.

Can't say too much about the food, but it's usually not too crowded (except for about 3 am on a Saturday night when all of the UES kids want another drink before heading home), the drink prices are fair for a dive and the bartenders are very friendly.

Straight from the basement of the frat house to the streets of the Upper East Side, it's Brother Jimmy's Bait Shack!  It originally got its name from the first frat brother who started the bar, Brother Bait.

It's really just not my scene.  It's not really a sports bar, not really a pub, not really a dive, and the clientele doesn't lend itself to a single's night out.  Perhaps it is the close proximity to the New York Sports Club, but whenever I go in there it's like they're having a Tightest Wifebeater competition among area bouncers.

The food is actually quite good, I recommend the pulled pork bbq.

Starving for some BBQ, we headed over to Brother Jimmy's as being the resident known BBQ hot spot within easy walking distance from the apt.

I personally was a bit confused as we walked it, as more dining space can be found towards the back of the establishment, and you are moreso greeted with the vast expanse of the bar upon entering.

We sat down, ordered some drinks (beer for him....Charleston ? iced tea for me) and decided on the hush puppies to tied us over before we passed out. Our waitress was cute, and bubbly, and actually recommended the drink that I had ordered.

Note that I may have listed the drink wrong because the Charleston Iced Tea MAY have been my original drink order.  But regardless of what it is called..if you ask for the iced tea flavored Vodka mixed in lemonade...that's what I got.  And it was pretty damn good.

Despite the length of time it took to actually get our food (tables who arrived noticeably after us received their entrees first before we received our appetizers), once the food hit the table, we weren't complaining.

The hush puppies were pretty decent, but what made it extremely great was the maple butter.  Mmm mmm good.  Would be really great on some pancakes or waffles.

For our entries we got the pulled pork sandwich and the brisket sandwich.  Both definitely to our liking.  And to be honest, the brisket sandwich had quite the ample amount of brisket that I decided to just forgo the bread and enjoy the brisket.

The sweet potato fries were also cooked perfectly, and for an additional 50 cents, couldn't really complain about the cole slaw.

Not sure yet if I would call myself a fan, but Brother Jimmy's surely did not warrant 3-stars.  Darn Yelp, when will you do half star ratings.

Regardless, I know I will be back, and if I don't.  I did pick up the menu as I walked out because they do free delivery!

I really like the fattening food they serve in this kitchy restaurant.  I especially love the pulled pork sandwich topped off with some slaw. You order your sauce based on the area of the Carolinas it's from.  Fun fun!

I usually get pretty drunk at this place, drinking some sort of liqoured up blue stuff out of a mason jar.

The crowd is very "I went to Dwight but want to pretend I grew up in trailer park."

This is usually our post Yankee game stop. Huge portions will definitely fill you up. The Fish Bowl will get you drunk.

Preface: I am a girl.  And I love dive bars (see my review of Jeremy's Ale House: http://www.yelp.com/bi...).  Keep that in mind when you read the rest of this...

Brother Jimmy's does ribs right!  They declare it, underline it, shout it and deliver it.  If I were a pig and I had to go, I would want Brother Jimmy's to be my resting place.

Oh-so-smooth pale arches of rib bones barely support perfectly seasoned hunks of tender, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth animal flesh.  The meat literally falls off the bone, and it's covered in big, dripping goblets of sticky-salty-sweet-tangy-addictive sauce.  I'm a fan of the sweeter ribs, but my husband swears by their spicier dry-rub.  Either way, I promise you meat-heaven.

The sides and the sauces are also done justice here.  Sweet potatoes with walnuts, green bean casserole, mac & cheese, fried okra, collard greens and the cornbread, oh the cornbread...

If all this weren't surrounded by frat-happy twentysomethings, then Brother Jimmy's would easily garner a five-star rating.  Alas, the Abercrombie crowd can grate the nerves, though honestly the food is so good I'll give it 4.5 stars.  Pass the cornbread, please!

Final tip: Sunday afternoons are surprisingly family-friendly, and large groups (up to 20) don't wait very long for seats in the back.

    Food: Southern BBQ
    Ambience: Yes, frat house.
    Worth a Try: YES!

Because they have great BBQ. Great pulled pork sandwiches (North or South Carolina style), brisket dinners (chopped or sliced), bbq chicken, and really good chicken cobb salad. AND even better chili. Smoky, chunky and meaty... with beans. And to die for with the fixin's. I love chili and consider myself bit of a chili expert... And Brother Jimmy's Bait Shack is one of the best places for chili. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. It's not always where I want to eat but definitely want to eat what they serve. And to tell you the truth, it is probably the most happening place on the block. There's not a whole lot going on after 90th St on 3rd Ave! I don't really care to see girls dancing on the bar at dinner but sometimes, it's a good diversion!  So, if you see a place with "Eat/Meat" alternatively flashing in neon... you know you're at the right place to eat lots of good meat!

    Can you say "Hooters?"

Thats what this place reminded  me of...at least in terms of food.  The service was much prettier here so thats why they got the extra star.  Back to the food.  It was pretty mediocre and didn't have enough kick behind their food.  Sure there was hot sauce and 4 types of BBQ sauce, but the ribs themselves weren't up to par even after I drenched them in their sauces.  Still, we came here for cheap eats and thats what we got....which I'm totally fine with, but that day was about having a good meal.

The service was fine and the waitress was very friendly.  The atmosphere was a cross between TGIF's, Hooters and Applebee's.

Not my place, but for cheap eats and all you can eat rib's and beer, I'll definitely stop by to check that out.

What to order: Rib tips, wings, carolina pulled pork, burger, cobb salad, mac and cheese and their version of a long island iced tea.

What not to order: Not a fan of the fried green tomatoes. If you're jewish, you probably won't enjoy the brisket either. It's not exactly grandmas recipe.

I've been looking forward to Brother Jimmy's for awhile now, and last week seemed like the time to try take-out from the Bait Shack.  What a disappointing experience.  Since when do you order BBQ and not get any BBQ sauce with your food?  What the f*ck?!  I'm glad I had my own bottle in the fridge, but seriously.
We ordered the pulled pork which was good, the chopped brisket, which was okay, and the (tiny) sides of mac n cheese, potato salad, and biscuits with gravy - which were all pretty disappointing.  I've had better potato salad at gas stations and I think if you tried to serve that gravy in the South they'd sick Paula Dean on you.

Call me a sucker for a good dive bar.  I really like Brother Jimmy's Bait Shack.  Probably because it doesn't try to pretend that it's something better.  Brother Jimmy's not only knows it's a dive, but actually celebrates the fact. You will love this place as long as you expect that.

I like the BBQ here, especially the dry-rub ribs.  They have a great spicy flavor and aren't drowned in sauce.  The sides and appetizers are great as well.  There are lots of TVs and projectors showing various games at all times.  It's a good place to watch some college ball with a crowd of friends.

I love Brother Jimmy's probably too much for what it is.  But after a 4-year deprivation of dive bars, kitschy Southern-ness, barbecue, and my beloved life below the Mason Dixon line, I am in love.

Their pulled pork sandwiches and hush puppies are nothing short of fabulous...Bar-B-Cutie would be proud.  Throw in PBR cans for $3.50 and put football on every TV and it's a perfect day in my book.  Brother Jimmy's (in most locations) are usually pretty crowded in the evening, and at this location, the front area is pretty much all standing room bar (tables are in the back).  Dinner is reasonably priced (BBQ sandwich with a side is $9-ish).

This is a young, sports-loving crowd.  Don't go with your boyfriend unless you can handle sports and beer, cuz no one wants to hear your high-maintenance bitching.

And for some reason, that I have yet to understand, these are ACC bars...doesn't SEC seem like the obvious conference to support in an establishment whose tagline is "Put Some South In Yo' Mouth"?

Also, cocktails in Mason Jars...genius touch.

If you are looking for a relaxed, "no pressure" atmosphere, are a softball team going out after the game for cheap beers and good food, or if you're like me: a die hard nacho fan, Brother Jimmy's is the place for you.

The nachos are AWESOME. They're nothing short of gooey delicious perfection and always prove to be a real crowd pleaser (based on the fact that the conversation at the table falls silent as soon as they are set down.

My only qualm is that the BBQ sauces are pretty weak. When it comes to BBQ for me, the spicier the better! I tried each sauce on part of my pulled pork sandwich and was pretty disappointed when they all fell short.

The service is excellent, as far as food and drink delivery goes, but if you go to watch a game in the backroom and you need the station turned, don't hold your breath. After asking 4 different people, we finally gave up.

I'd say the place is worth a try and is definitely a "must" if you are craving great nachos.

There are some great nightly specials, especially the Monday and Tuesday.

Haven't had great experience here, though. The first time I went, the bartender ended up giving me the wrong debit card back when I paid my bill. Now, it was my fault too for not checking the card to see if it was mine, but I was drunker than the bartender. On the bright side, the manager of the place had the sense to look me up on Facebook, send me a message that they had my card and then not charge me for the bill.

The other time I ordered rib tips and sweet potato fries for takeout, but they sucked. The fries were limp and watery and the ribs were just sort of nasty. Seemed old and the sauce was too watery.

The bartenders are pretty outgoing, very attentive with the beer. I don't like the front room, though. It's really claustrophobic. Low ceiling beams, dark wood, lots of memorabilia and stuff. I just prefer open spaces, like The Backpage.

Had the nachos once and sad to say I finished 'em by myself. They were just okay. There are many better bbq places, specifically in Harlem.

So Tuesday night I'm gonna help a friend (who lives around the corner from here) pick a bbq place for his party next week.  Dinosaur in Harlem?  Rub in Chelsea?  Daisy Mae's in Hell's Kitchen?

Screw it, lets just get brother jimmy's delivered.

And you know what?  It hit the spot.

I've eaten at the bar before, and the food was just as good on delivery.  Very good, not great, but priced to satisfy.

I'm not a southerner, I'm not a snob, but I know when bbq does what it's supposed to.  So...45 minutes later, after the itis started to wear off, we realized massive amounts of bbq was no way to get a birthday party started.

So now we're back to square one for the party...But the food was still pretty good.

If there were ever a place to sing Bon Jovi's Living on a Prayer at the top of your lungs (outside of a Bon Jovi concert, that is), then Brother Jimmy's is that place. And yeah, that actually happened. This was the absolute closest drinking establishment to my temporary summer residence (the 92nd St Y), making it a very appealing place to go.

It's a small place and fit a lot of people. In the summer, it was absolutely packed with other college students staying at the Y, perhaps lending credence to that frat house feel. I've heard the food is good, but having only been when the sun goes down, I can't speak to that. But as a drinking establishment, it served my needs just fine.

    PBR in a can, check.
    Fish bowls, check.
    80's hair band music, check.
Frat guys in popped-collars, check. (thats where only 4 stars came from)
    Awesome bbq, check.

This place is fun if you are with a group of people. The music is loud and it's a smaller place, but its soo much fun!

They always have a great selection of beers as well.

We get delivery once in a while and have never been disappointed.  The pulled pork platters are enough for 2, or a lunch and a dinner.  The Hush puppies are decent, the yams are divine, most of the sides are great.  Haven't had any of the ribs or many of the other appetizers.

I have never eaten in, next time I pick-up I will take a look at the facilities.
