If you have a real hankering for a Dean & Deluca-type experience in the middle of your trip to Berlin, then you should make a stop at Brot und Butter, which is a gourmet food store that definitely offers more than bread and butter. I was looking for a quick bite before taking the U-Bahn to the airport, so I stopped here hoping I could grab and go. Instead, I found myself lingering over all their tempting baked goods.
Because the server spoke no English, I merely pointed to the quiche in the window and said "Cappuccino!". For 7.80 Euros, I got two mini-slices of a Bacon and Fennel Quiche that was quite delectable with a butter lettuce side salad (see photo). My 3-Euro Cappuccino came with one of their house-made butter cookies (see photo). It was the perfect starter for my journey to Copenhagen that morning. Located in Charlottenburg near Ernst-Reuter Platz, this shop also features a separate bakery featuring their fresh bread by the loaf.
