Bro's was fantastic! Chef Breaux is great. The restaurant is homey, and a nice place to sit and have a drink. The crawfish were surprisingly good. I was expecting really bland over cooked crawfish, but they were great. Nice and spicy, with excellent potatoes and corn. They were hot, cooked just right, and huge.

Turns out Chef Breaux has a driver that runs to Lafayette every week to pick up crawfish and bring them to Bro's. So yes, they are Louisiana crawfish and yes, they are cooked by a Lafayette native.

It was good, not too expensive, and a good time.

We had a very memorable and borderline-strange lunch experience here.

I was a little nervous based on the appearance of the restaurant, both inside and out, but the food made for up for any negative first impressions I had.

The restaurant is a little house in an interesting area, to put it gently.
We were helped right away and directed to a back room with a few mismatched tables and chairs in it.  There seemed to be several seating areas upstairs and down, all ummm.... eclectically decorated?

The waiter was clearly truly Cajun, as it was sort of hard to understand him most of the time. Is that bad to say?  I'm not hating, I'm French Canadian, we talk funny too.

The food was all really good! We ordered an appetizer that came out after the meals, and water refills were few and far between, but it was generally a good experience.

    Now for the memorable parts:

1: The gumbo is served in shallow, very full bowls... Do you see where I'm going with this...? Let's just say that because of the way the bowl was placed on the table, my boyfriend opted to work from home for the rest of the day due to the now infamous "gumbo pants."

2: On our way out we chatted with Chef Breaux for a few minutes.  He told us about his experience with Guy Fieri when Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives was there and told us about the restaurant's history, etc, which was all really interesting.  Then he asks us what part of town we live in.  When I say West Nashville he immediately asks me, in all seriousness, "Who's your daddy??"
It took everything I had to hold back my laughter as I realized that he was just honestly asking if he knew my family.  Call me immature, but it was hilarious.

I will not return, but you might like it &  Here is why:

I was looking forward to this place, it came highly recommended.  I have been to New Orleans, many many times, as well at Lafayette and Houma.

For "Cajun" food in Tennessee, it is the best I've eaten.
However, I will not be returning.

As a restaurant the food is good.  I was just hoping for authentic Louisiana cuisine .  Their cook, as so many other do, makes the mistake of assuming that a key element of "Cajun" equates to "Spicy" it does not.  Cajun simply means "FLAVOR".

The gumbo, looked the part, the roux was dark.  I thought I was borderline burnt, however my "down-da-bayou BF said, that was okay...it was just too spicy; Also the portion size was good, but not enough rice to equal the wateriness of the gumbo (no file was at the table to thicken either. I did miss 'regular' crystal sauce at the table too.

The oysters were not from Louisiana, so I missed that sweet/ salty taste.
They were overly breaded, similar to clams at Quincy Marketplace in Boston.
Sadly, if you are going to over bread...use some seasoning here.
    They were cooked perfectly;

But for $10 on a 10" Po-boy I would have liked to have more than 5 oysters.

Also, they seem to think that "dressed' included onions.    The bread was very good, and knowing how they make real French bread, it is most likely the best they could get.  I do give * star just for that.

The cornbread dressing was just bad,
I am sorry the cook never went to a good Xmas dinner in the big easy!

If you do not know what Cajun is, definitely GO.  As a restaurant it is great.
Very nice local crowd and some of the table are 'communal" just like some of the best joins in La.

Also, the decor was wacky, NO Louisiana stuff & NOT good music.
That was a real bummer too.  We went for lunch on Wed around 1pm.

If you have seen this place on "Diners Drive-ins and Dives or Tennessee Crossroads" and think thats what you're getting.....think again! Everything was shockingly bad. The place is a dive and thats cool buts its DIRTY......thats different from "dive-y".

The food was horribly dry/old/reheated and totally lackluster. Always ask before you spend 10 minutes looking at the menu because half the stuff is not available! This place is not what you see on TV. It was sooo disappointing......I was literally shocked at the quality.

Dont expect the "chef" to be "cooking" your food.....someone else will be reheating your food.

The attitudes from the staff at this place did not come across as "characters" but more like "We dont care and we dont need your business".

You WILL need to check your bill!

Ah yes.  My former Friday Lunch Lover.  For a good part of a year and a half, my bosses and I would go here EVERY Friday.   We would literally ALL only order 1 thing off of the menu (I have since tried a few different things since then).   But before Darrell Breaux (he is the owner...great guy) made it on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives on Food Network this was my local place.

Things to keep in mind.  You don't want to sit down stairs because from my experience the service tends to suffer down there, depending on the time you go obviously.   So if planning on eating at Bro's for lunch it's best to get there at 11 or 1pmish.    If the entire table is intent on ordering something different for each of you...tack on time of staying there MUCH longer for lunch.   If like me you know you are going to order a bowl of LARGE Red Beans and Rice with the best Sweet Tea in town then you are better suited to eat and go, otherwise the experience could become a full on event called "waiting".  Though service has gotten better over the years I will admit.

If you take the time to get to know Chad (one of Darrell's sons) you will find his gruff humor hilarious over time.

Darrell too has a great sense of humor and loves to come around and ask everyone how their meal is today.   My favorite line he ever said to me was "What do you mean you didn't get onions on your Beans (short for red beans and rice)?   I like my women like I like my onions, because they both make me cry."

Prices are great.  Atmosphere is divey, but fun.  I know it's on Charlotte Pike and knife fights are common, but don't worry, this place is only open past 330pm on 1 day every week, Friday, so you don't have to worry about gun shots during the mid part of the day.

Went to Bro's on 1/14/2012 at opening (4:00pm). The food was very good, the service was another story.

Food is traditional Cajun and plentiful. Large portions and a nice "dive" atmosphere. However, the waiter was not very attentive and be careful when ordering on the menu, as prices don't accurately reflect what you'll be charged at the register.

I ordered a full slab of ribs. I wanted 1/2 on my plate and the other 1/2 to go. This was after the waiter suggest I do that because I couldn't decide between the 1/2 slab or a full slab. Price for a 1/2 slab on the menu: $14.99. Full slab price: $20.95. I figured if I ate the 1/2 and wanted more, I already had it on tap. If not, lunch tomorrow.

Imagine my surprise when I got to the register and saw they had upped the price of a full slab to $25.99.  This was shown on a post-it note, at the register, and had been covered by some knick-knack.  The waiter failed to mention that the price of a full slab had gone up.  Furthermore, imagine my shock when I was charged $14.99 TWICE on my bill.  That's right.  They charged me $29.98 for a full slab, not the $25.99 the post it note had said.

My card had been ran at this time when my wife noticed the discrepancy in price.  She brought it to the attention of the cashier who said she would get it worked out.  Out came the owner and said "well, it's a heat up fee".  Not really sure what that meant, as I was taking my leftovers home anyway.  The lady hastily tried to explain to me that there's some sort of unwritten "warm up fee" attached to ribs.  She said "since its only a couple of dollars difference, how about we let this slide for the confusion?"  I responded by telling her I didn't appreciate the "miscommunication" of their menu's, post-it's, and "fee's" that aren't on the menu.  In the end, my card had already been charged and the fee will stand.  I just know this was my second and last time at bro's because of this.

So to sum it up:  food is good, service is lousy.  Make sure you get the current prices before you order and scrutinize your bill.

Best Cajan food in Nashville! It's a small hole in the wall, hard to find but well worth it. Went there for lunch with 2 co-workers. Greeted as we walked in (door is a little hard to find) and sat down at a clean and comfortable table. The waitress was very helpful and friendly. She made some excellent suggestions. Food came up quick and hot...and tasted out of this world. Looking around on the inside I felt like I was in a small town Louisiana cafe. I highly recommend this restaurant and plan on returning very soon and often.

Their crawfish's boil were freshly cooked, firm, spicy, and not too salty. This place WILL GIVE any Louisiana restaurants a run for there money.  That's how great the food at Bro's are. It was so good that my wife and I ordered 3 more pounds TO GO after eating 6 pounds together for dinner. That's how good it is!!!!

We also tried the fried boudin sausage balls and crawfish etouffee, it was all very good and flavorful.

Great job Bro's for giving an authentic taste of Louisiana in Nashville:))

Having just moved from New Orleans a few months ago, I am always skeptical of cajun restaurants so far away from NOLA. Boy, was I surprised with the quality at Bro's.

I went with a few people from my office for lunch a few weeks ago and it just so happened that it was the day before Thanksgiving. The place was packed, and I soon found out why. Not only do they have delicious cajun food, they sell deep friend cajun turkeys for Thanksgiving. As soon as I saw those turkeys, I knew they were legit.

You can tell a lot about a cajun restaurant by the flavor of their gumbo. My huge bowl of gumbo, was awesome. The flavors were all spot on. The roux was dark and flavorful and it was accompanied by house made sausage.

For around $10 I got giant bowl of gumbo and two sides. What a great deal! If you are looking for some authentic New Orleans style food, Bro's is your place.

I have a thing for Cajun food. I just love it, since New Orleans is my favorite city to visit. Good Cajun food always reminds me of being there.

Bro's is an awesome find, and is kind of a hidden little joint off Charlotte. The first time I drove by and saw it, I was like NO WAY a Cajun place, I have to try it. Unfortunately, it took me about a year to actually make it there. Why did it take me so long?

I came here for lunch and ordered the jambalaya with a side of beans. The jambalaya was amazingly good, just spicy enough but not too much to make you sweat. The fried green tomatoes were really good, too. There was just so much food on the plate that I barely finished half of it and I was done. But oh my, it was good. And I will be back to try more of this awesome Cajun cooking. If you are thrown off by this dive of a restaurant, don't be. Once you try the food, you'll understand why Bro's is so awesome.

Yum, Yum, Yum! 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives' got this one right! We heard about Bro's through the show, and what a wonderful experience it was!

From the jambalaya we got as an appetizer to my fried catfish, the food was delicious and oh-so authentic New Orleans. The seasoning was just right, and for the amount of food we got, it was a steal!

My catfish lunch plate was $10, and that included 3 to 5 strips of catfish and rice, two additional sides, and these delicious potato slices!!

To top off our greasy but AMAZING meal, the service was most excellent! The owners themselves (the Breauxs) greeted us when we came in and made sure to ask about our experience before we left! And you can't miss their accents anywhere. They are as authentic Louisiana as it gets here in Nashville, Tennessee!

After seeing this place on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, I stopped with my parents on a recent family roadtrip. If you've never had Cajun cuisine in Louisiana, the food was great. If you have, the food could be potentially disappointing.

I liked the crawfish etoufee, but have been spoiled on super-spicy, super-delicious crawfish from my family. I loved the muffaletta, but if you like your muffaletta dry, you won't share my warm and fuzzy feelings. It was a gooey-cheesy calzone-ish creation, rather than a buttoned-up, crisp deli sandwich. My mom, who had the chopped brisket sandwich, said that BBQ in this place is "an after thought", and rightly so, it's a Cajun place!

Probably the best part of the experience was Chef Darrell Breaux. My parents and I sat at the back of the house, essentially in the kitchen. Breaux didn't just give the standard "How was your lunch?", he joked around with my dad and teased me about Houston. Breaux is the kind of guy who makes me remember why I visit places like Bros as often as possible. The "soul" in this place is 40% in the food, and 60% radiating from the staff.

The red beans were terrific and I adored the chef and the woman I think  was the manager.  The smoked beef was good, but the sauce was more of a standout.  The greens, well, they were spicy, but didn't have any meat flavoring.  Strange to think that I automatically think greens=meat, but that's how it is.

I have to go back and try the bread pudding, even though it has raisins.

This place truly is a dive, but thats not why I didnt like it. After we found a seat our waitress came to take our order, however much of what was on the menu, they did not actually have. My friend got the shrimp po boy, which she liked because the bread was good. She did however feel as though they couldve put more shrimp on it.  I got a plate of bland food. The greens were decent after I added salt, pepper and hot sauce, the fried potatoes were just that. Salt and ketchup needed. Over all, i would never go back.

Bro's Cajun on Fat Tuesday, hell yeah.  I have ridden past this joint multiple times, but never had the chance to give it a try until today.

First off, a bit of an embarissing confession.  I actually enjoy Diner's, Drive-ins and Dives quite a bit and when I saw that Bro's makes and smokes all their own sausages on the show then it was really just a matter of time before I made a trip.

The place definitely qualifies as a bit of a dive.  It is tucked away next to the interstate in a pretty commercial stretch of Charlotte ave and interior is extremely basic.

If you are going to Bro's you are going for the food and it does not disappoint.  This is not an upscale New Orleans type restaurant.  Bro's is Cajun soul food, red beans and rice, jambolaya, crawfish, po-boys.  Food that is simple and delicious.  I had the red beans and rice and the sausage lived up to my high expectations.  Best red beans and rice that I have had in Nashville.  The rest of the menu looked excellent and I have to try the stuffed (with sausage) porkchop sometime soon.

Good stuff, I will be back.

For the life of me I can't understand the praise Nashvillians continue to heap on this restaurant. I've eaten here three times, and the food is just not good.

I've had the etouffee, jambalaya, po boy, boudin balls, and red beans and rice. The are just "meh" at best. My better half used to live in NOLA and she is in agreement. We wanted to love this place soooo badly. Our third try was our last. We won't be back for another.

I was very disappointed with my visit to this place. I called ahead of my visit to check to make sure they were selling crawfish that evening since the location was out of my way. I drove there after work so there crowd wasn't heavy.

The wait for the crawfish was at least 45 minutes. The crawfish when I finally got it was cold, small, and not spicy. I even requested extra it to be spicy. As a person being used to actual folks in Louisiana cooking my crawfish, I was extremely disappointed. I would never go again. Sorry.

I saw this place on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and just had to try it.  I've been there twice now.  I have mixed feelings about it honestly, but it's good southern cooking anyway you look at it.  The reason I have some negative feelings is that 1.they're only open on Friday nights for dinner and not at all on Sat and Sun, 2.because they're not open on the weekend and the only night is Fridays, if they run out of something Friday they're not making anymore of it for the rest of the evening.  I still haven't been able to try the boudin balls as a result.  Also, they had no desert the second time I went which was disappointing because I had a really good carrot cake the first time that I was looking forward to having again.

The positives are many.  The place is cozy, the service is excellent.  The food is authentic home cooking.  I've tried the catfish bites, the sampler, and the fried catfish.  The catfish, the gumbo, and the shrimp creole are probably my favorite.  The crawfish etouffee I didn't care for and I will agree with a lot of the other posts on here though that I expected all of these items to be spicer given the cajun nature of cooking.

I think there are some negative posts on here because trying to compare someone else's version of what you've grown up with is a hard thing to do because of bias.  However, if you don't really have a background in cajun food and just looking to give your palate something different to savor, you won't go wrong with Bro's.

Wife, two year old daughter and I were downtown in Nashville and decided to try Bros after seeing it featured on TV's Diners Drive Ins and Dives.

I tried to order the Crawfish out of season, not their fault.

Wait staff was friendly and quick.  I ordered shrimp Po Boy, we ordered red beans and rice for my 2 year old and the wife ordered a plain cheese burger after she tried to order chicken fricassee.  We were told after we tried to order that the menu was being changed and some things on the menu where not available.

My 2 year old and I did enjoy the thin cut potato chip style fries.

The red beans and rice was well received.  My Po Boy had 6 small, dried, over fried tasteless shrimp.  The shrimp were small enough that the giant bun it came on looked empty and sad.   The french bread that made up the bun was decent.....

Evidently the waitress did not hear "Plain" when my wife ordered.  My wife's plain burger came decked with everything.  She does not do lettuce and just ate the red beans and rice dish.  The cheese burger was taken off our bill and the server was apologetic.

The reason I gave it a second star was the Boudin Sausage I had as an appetizer.  Just the right amount of spice and aromatic from the fresh herbs in it.  The Boudin was 4 star, wish the rest of my visit had been.

Would like to try it again when crawfish are in season and give them another chance.

Had lunch at one of my favorite places in Nashville today,  Bro's!  Not much on atmosphere but if you want some good cookin then it's your place!  I ordered the Gumbo which had both chicken & Andouille sausage over rice.  The "rue" was dark and full of flavor.  The chicken was tender and the Andouille has a slight amount of heat!  Very good, very filling!  I also had a 1 lb, side of Crawfish.  Tons of flavor!  I wanted to stay and order more and make an afternoon of it but you know....gotta bet back to the Grind!  As always it was full at lunch time.  The layout is crazy and as I said the decor is bare minimum.  Darrell Breaux is always there with a quick joke and a smile.  The service is sometimes slow but today it was quick (except for the Crawfish)...but they arrived shortly behind the Gumbo.  I left with a full stomach and an empty pocketbook!  It's a bit pricy for lunch but well worth it IMHO!  I can't wait to return.  Hope to see you there!

An incredibly hidden Cajun experience. I've seriously driven by this place hundreds of times, but until was looking for it I missed it.

All in all a good experience with a few strange hitches.

Our waiter was apparently so Cajun it almost made it difficult to understand what he was saying.  He also had a strange tendency to make me uncomfortable. Case in point:  Apparently too much Gumbo was made for another party and another waitress was kind enough to give me a cup (not a full size bowl) of Gumbo on the house.  As this was my first visit I was enthusiastic to try some.  When my waiter (Who must be one of the owners) discovered this he became very inquisitive, to the point of interrogating ME about how I got this cup of gumbo.  I tried to explain as best as I could, but he continued to quiz staff members until finally he just said something to the effect of "Well, okay".  The better half of the Yelp couple and I came up with several humorous situations as to how I could have nefariously obtained this gumbo.

The second problem was that since the cooking is done right there in the same room with the customers and it did have a tendency to overpower the senses, including making both of our eyes water.

The Gumbo, and my Po Boy were quite delicious though, and I would happily return.

Sadly I do not get to this eatery as much as I would like.  When I first moved here in 1993 it was at another location but great none the less.  Being in Nashville it is in that local tradition of a meat n three for many orders but it still has a great menu.  Lunches can be busy and there are seats inside and out.  The fare is simple home style with lots of friendly people.

Bro's has all the Cajun staples.  Nothing here stands out as my fave as I vary my choice on every visit.  The food is very good, service can slow a little at peaks but the wait is worth it.  Prices are fair and the portions good.  A great place showing some stand out Nashville grub.  If you are missing that home cooked meal from LA this is a place to fill it.

During the holidays they do an incredible Cajun deep fried turkey you can purchase for home.  Order early, it is insanely good!

Large shrimp, yummy  boudin, bread for the sandwiches is crusty outside and soft inside.  The sweet tea is SWEET!  Catfish has a nice spicy kick.  Will go back soon to sample the smoked sausage.
Dad has a BBQ sauce and so does Junior...I prefer Dad's.
Place is tiny...really tiny.  I don't usually wait for a table, but if I'm not in the mood to take it home, I'll definitely wait.

The place isn't flashy like a more upscale 'cajun' place in Cool Springs but the food more than makes up for it.  This is true, down home country, old fashioned Cajun cooking.  I'm not sure what some of the other reviewers here thought they were coming to but it's a whole in the wall, a joint, a dive but a great mom and pop place.  Chef Darrel Breaux and his wife Linda and sons are the main characters aound here.

I've been going to Bro's since it started in a gas station over on Murphy Road.  Yeah - that long.  I've never had a bad meal.  This place isn't perfect, remember that it's a family run restaurant and there are days the help doesn't show up or someone works a double shift and they don't have the extra staff of other places.  But he food is prepred with love and pride.

Tonight I had crawfish, four pounds of them.  For this early in the season and compared to what I got a couple of weeks ago elsewhere, these crawfish were incredibly nice sized.  Cooked perfectly - unlike the facny cajun resturant who ket sending me out leftover crawfish that had been 'reheated' and were mushy, these crawfish were freshly boiled and nice and firm.

On other trips I've had just about everything on the menu.  Chicken fricassee.  Gumbo.  Red beans and rice.  You name it.

The po-boys - OMG the po-boys.   These are like the po-boys of my childhood.  The home fries - to me they are wonderful.  Yeah they might be a little greasy but they are like homemade from my grandmother's kitchen.

The cornbread is the best in town hands down and you get this great big tall square of it.  The vegetagbles have always been good, cooked low and slow like my grandmother did.  My husbandusually just gets a vegetable plate.  And the catfish, besides when they have crawfish, that's probably my favorite thing on the menu.

As for the fried turkey, we've gotten them for years from Bro's and never had a problem like the one other place that we got one that honestly wasn't edible.  My daughter even whined this past Thanksgiving when I roasted a turkey insted of getting one from Bro's.  And one year because I was just so tired, I decidedto get a pan of their dressing and gravy since they still had some.  It's probably the only dressing and gravy I have ever had from a restaurant that I would use instead of my own.

I'm not sure what the others that reviewed Bro's expected but it's good food.  Fried food is well fried food.  I don't think their food is greasy for fried food.

As a native Louisianian, I'm always searching for good cajun food.  Breaux is from Lafayette, and he knows how to do it right!  The boudin and gumbo are fantastic! The hours are a little weird, I wish they would be open on weekends.

Only 1 of 2 places with crawfish. Owners are awesome and trying their best to meet the needs of their customers.

Crawfish had good spice and very hot even an hour after we picked it up. They packaged the crawfish in bags normally found at fairs/carnivals with popcorn. The potatoes complement the crawfish very well and I loved it.

Neighborhood looks shady but definitely worth the visit.

They will also appear on the Food Network in July 2010.

No one makes food this good. This is the be all end all place for red beans and rice, corn bread, the *BEST* gumbo anywhere on the planet (i've tried them all to my knowledge), jambalaya. best damn soul food ever. Period. No remote comparison. It's the spices. Plain and simple.
the ambiance: paper towels and ripped booth seating adds a little something to the charm of the down-home feeling of the place. You will see far beyond all of that once you taste the food. I order it and have it shipped out on helicopters to important events. it's that good. you will be thinking to yourself "this is the first time i've ever tasted real food." no foolin'

Three days after our first visit she was jonesin' for a shrimp po-boy so I called in an order to go.
Also got the catfish bites (just to try their catfish) and a full slab of ribs.
The catfish was delicious and a definite re-order.
Now to the ribs: These are pork spare ribs, not silly little baby-backs. And you do indeed get the entire rack. I have had my fill twice and still have a couple left for a snack. The deal is that they do not cook ribs everyday. I guess they refrigerate them and heat them up when ordered. Still, they were very good. If one was lucky enough to get the strait off the smoker I imagine they would be excellent. Do not doubt me. I am not the guy who has never met a rib I didn't like. I'm very particular about what makes a good rib. Good ribs DO NOT fall off the bone. You actually take bites while holding them, caveman style. These ribs had just enough pull to them, even warmed over. They are not Memphis or Kansas City style. They are slightly different, but just as tasty.  If you are a rib fan I highly recommend you pick some up.

For Thaksgiving we got a deep fried turkey and some of their andouille dressing.  The pale carcass they presented me with didn't hardly look cooked, much less deep fried, but I figured looks could be deceiving so I took it.  It was the worst turkey I have ever tasted and was as under cooked as it appeared. The dressing was made with what tasted like Jiffy cornbread mix and no sage at all.  I understand that recipes differ but now I know why all my Baton Rouge/NOLA relatives love my dressing so much!! I think the sweet cornbread must be a Cajun thing cause my Cajun husband says he never had good cornbread till he moved to Nashville.  I also bought some tasso for seasoning and it was very good though frozen at the time of purchase.  With tax, my total was just over $80 which I feel all but the tasso was wasted.  Never again, sorry.

The boudin balls are awesome, as is the catfish and red beans. They have smoked meats that they smoke out back in their own smoker, all of which are delicious. It's a great lunch spot and it is fairly reasonably priced.

Feels like your hanging out in their house.  Pretty awesome. I talked to the family.  They are fom "Cajun Country" Lafayette, LA.  Food was excellent!!!  Crawfish Etouffee!!  Po- Boys!!!  Place is small.  I think weekdays they are open for lunch.  Weekends they close pretty early so hitthem up when you get some time.  It will be worth it.  They had a guy playing an accordian, and a guitar.  Fun family owned place.  Razz's here in Smyrna is great to.  Bro's has that feeling in the atmosphere

ok, ok i was reminiscin' about my years in cashville and whether or not they were a total waste of my life, and ya know the real deal is that even if most of it was lame, just going to Breaux's and Rotier's a couple hundred times made it worth anything else that i can remember.

The other reviews are surprisingly pro-hater for a spot like this, i mean come on guys if you even bother checking this place out there's a pretty good chance you'll like it. I guess all the OG's don't want to review it and blow up the spot for all the yuppies. maybe they're writing bad reviews to throw you a curve.

All i gotta say is this is the best lunch spot in town, and it makes going back to work a big decision every time. My old spot on Illinois next to the baseheads sounded like a pretty sweet option after pounding a massive plate of fried catfish or jambalaya, but i'll let you make the call. Sure it's not a place for bettys watching their calories, but i think that's kinda obvious by the time you see the building, which is also awesome.

Anyways if you make it here you're stoked, period. Don't believe the anti-hype, this is the real deal, and that dude talking about heart-blackening stuff is a total wuss, don't even let that fade ya. Not to mention Breaux himself, one of the coolest peeps around. Let me know if yall get an export biz going, i'll support you. Buck Buck!

I really did enjoy my food at Bro's, when I finally got to eat there. Bro's does have posted hours, but don't bank on them too much. I think they are more like suggestions, or perhaps just a guide to when they may or may not be open. I know it's an idiosyncrasy typical of such places, but after diligently trying to eat there for the past year or so, I now just find it annoying.
During the week, Bro's is only open until three, so if you work, just plan to go on a Friday when they are (mostly) open until seven.
That issue aside, the gumbo was great, served with probably the best cornbread I've ever had. The rice is served on the side, so you add it yourself. Bro's has daily specials, but their fixed menu is limited, so if you're not keen on what they have that day, just try the gumbo. The night I went this happened to me, but five minutes after I ordered, the waitress added a crab and shrimp stew to the specials and I was a little miffed because I would have ordered that. I was even more miffed when someone else did and it looked fabulous. So before you order, ask if they have anything that's not listed on the board. Bro's might be better on my second visit when I know how to order there and I'm more used to their menu. The staff are really friendly and the cook will talk to you while he's cooking.

We bought a fried Turkey for Thanksgiving. It was easily the worst Turkey we ever had. The people that work there dont say hello when you enter and acted very confused as to why I was there. I love cajun food and this place was subpar.

Excellent down home cajun food. Not quite NOLA but close enough for Tennessee. Shrimp po boys are great and the catfish dinner is enough food for two days. Service is sometimes a little slow but friendly.

Buckle up for a wacky adventure, because this ain't no average trip out to dinner.  Upon entering, you may find a couple of dudes with their paper napkins tucked in their shirt collars like bibs as they wrassle a giant mountain of crawfish.  If it's packed, you and your friends might get put downstairs, and it might take an elderly waitress many many trips up and down the stairs to distribute the appropriate amount of cutlery and water glasses.  It will take a while to order, and a while longer for the food to arrive.  You will be drooling, and demanding grease!  And the grease, it will come.  I advise you to spread out the fried potatoes on the table, there is a big roll of paper towels there to help with the grease absorption.  While you wait for them to air out, dig in to that piece of golden fried catfish.  Yeeeaooow!  The veggies, they will be from some unknown frozen origin, but can also be useful in helping absorb grease.  You will eat till you can eat no more, and probably wipe your hands on your pants because you used the whole roll of paper towels to extract oil from your potatoes.  If you were drunk it might be hilarious.
