I live within walking distance so this is one of my favorite places. I grab a little brunch from time to time. They have good green tea (loose leaf) and their bread it amazing.

Their little store is a great addition to the neighborhood. I bought a ton of Christmas gifts here last year. The stock a lot of cute Japanese items for the home as well as some really unique trinkets from around the world. I bought my husband this beautiful french pocket knife and an official petanque set. They had beautiful letter pressed cards and iron tea sets. This place is really perfect for our little community.

I went to the Broome Street General Store for the first time this past Sunday, and I was very impressed. The place was all kinds of adorable and quaint. After ordering my mocha and almond croissant, I proceeded to inspect all the goodies in stock.  After I was done inspecting I made a mental note to come back ASAP.

There's only outdoor seating, so good thing it's sunny 95% of the time here! It was a beautiful day, and it felt amazing to sit out in the sun. While I wouldn't say the coffee was better than Intelligentsia, it was pretty damn good. The almond croissant? Well that was DELICIOUS. I would eat it every day for once a day if I could.

Now that I know this adorable little place exists, I plan to go there to do some of my writing.

I live within walking distance of Broome Street General Store. A real hazard considering the fact that this place sells everything I need that I never thought I needed. From stuff for the home to stuff for your infant to stuff for your belly, this place has it all. Gorgeous walnut cutting board? Check. Beautifully embroidered cotton onesie? Check. Delicious caprese sandwich from Cube + the perfect iced coffee? Check.

Broome Street General Store has it going on. Snag a seat outdoors and come loiter...

The actual store seems full of neat things, though I'm not a big shopper. What was awesome was the blackberry thyme muffin. Dee-licious! Coffee was solid, but seemed a bit pricey. Free wi-fi is always a plus. The patio is nice. The service seemed a little apathetic, but I wasn't particularly bothered by it. Overall a good experience.

The name of this place is deceiving as there is nothing general about this general store!

It's a gift giver's dream come true, as you will truly wow the pants off of any present receiver by wrapping up one of their fantastic finds. Not to mention, the coffee counter portion is dolling out caffeinated favorites, hearty deli sandwiches, and sweet treats like a cream cheese buttermilk scone. Divinity in pastry form, I tell you!

The outdoor picnic table-esque setup is the ideal spot to catch up with a friend, soak up some sun, and feel like you belong to an exclusive community of hip eastside dwellers. They also have free wifi, so you can post up and work from there, too. No indoor seating though, so when the weather turns, don't plan on making this your go-to spot.

I love all the packaged goodies from Swedish fish to those almonds that seem to make their way into every baby/bridal shower known to man.

All in all, I am happy to pay the pricier tag to cafe it up at BSGS, and will absolutely think of it firstish for when I am charged with finding a perfect presi.

This place is like Intelligencia Cafe's cooler little brother who has fewer friends.

The coffee is great. The general store is great. The seating area/patio area is great. The staff is great.... There is still some Silver Lake left in Silver Lake.

Broome Street is not just my current favorite coffee shop, but it's also my current favorite general store. Yes, in a town with more and more coffee shops and general stores popping up, Broome holds its own in both categories with a tastefully curated selection of things you don't need but would look awesome on your mantle, like brass compasses, Opinel knives, and miniature Connect 4 sets from France. It's also exactly the type of coffee shop you can actually relax at, with a front yard of picnic benches. And just when you suspect this place of being too hipster, you see the owner's (?) mom in the front yard planting flowers. The coffee making is not really set up for the kind of high traffic that La Mill and Intelligentsia handles, which is the best reason to come here.

This is a cute little place. Hipster little coffee place/eatery that weirdly happens to be run by the guys from Mumford and Sons. Also has a chintzy Americana-y gift shop. So think Intelligentsia meets Cracker Barrel. Cute!

Pretty cool place.  It would hands down get 5 stars if the staff weren't so grumpy.  Yes its true all the times I've come here there is rarely a smile which is typical of amazing places that know they are great but hey if you had created this unique haven you may have been the same so all good.  Broome St General Store is a Los Angles secret getaway for sure you will love it.

Great coffee (Gimme!) Great pastries (Cake Monkey!) Great shopping (Ooooh pretty Weck Jars!) Great location (5 minutes from home!)

    Great people working there too!!!

This place feels like home. Everyone is so friendly and laid back- it's like a kid that was raised in a Mom and Pop store, and they grew up loving it so much that when they were old enough, they decided to open one of their own.

There are a lot of coffee houses and little shops on the Eastside. There aren't many (any?) that can compete with these guys.

P.S. Can't wait to try the fried chicken soon! :D

This store is Uber-CUTE! I came here today, after randomly discovering it because I had some time before an appointment. It's a very cute little store with a lovely area outside to sit and enjoy some of the goodies you can get inside.

I walked in and was perusing the bakery section when I saw what looked to be a ham and swiss pastie. I love pasties so I ordered one heated up. It was $6 which in my opinion is a bit steep, but hey  - it's Silverlake!  The man at the counter told me it'd take about five minutes to warm up so I was looking all all the other goodies here.

They have jarred honeys, old fashioned candies, and lots of stuff that I presume is for cooking  - but heck, I don't cook. There was plenty of stuff for me to "ooh" and "ahh" over here, although I was more of a "look but don't touch" kind of person because some of the prices weren't marked and those that were scared me (I'm a cheapskate!).

My pastie was ready and I took a seat outside to enjoy it. I love the little patio. It was so cute and although it was on a somewhat busy street you could very easily get lost in a book here, this is NOT the place for loud obnoxious business phone calls you loud obnoxious business-y people! This is a place to chillax!

The pastie was a hit and a bit of a miss for me. Personally, I loved the buttery flakey crust. Any pastie lover will tell you it's all about the crust. It was delicious. The filling was also delicious, although parts of it were still cold and for being heated up for over 5 minutes I expected more of an ooey-gooey cheesy goodness. If it was cooked through a bit more and a bit more melty and gooey it would have totally been a 5 star snack!

All in all this place is very cute. I'm not in the neighborhood often but if I am in the future I will stop by for one of the coffees or teas.

Another Great Find in the lovely town of SilverLake :)

An hour early for last nights Yelp Event, the girls that worked the door suggested we walk down to the "cute little coffee shop" ...

STOP! WAIT! General Store?? where's the coffee shop, eh what the hell :) we have an hour to kill.

First thought *insert valley girl accent* O. M. G. this place is soooooo cute, like totally!!!

Walked in with the "bestie" and first thing we noticed: mustaches & pick up sticks (already 5star worthy).

shoes. jewelry. bowls. baby clothes. stencils. patis?!?! (fish sauce). bihon?!?! (sorry, can't translate that lmao). Japanese chili powder. gummi bears. power tools. chocolate. scones. sandwiches. and many many many more!!!

    my loves:

    * Finally an effin Filipino Owned Shop doing it the white, i mean, the right way!!!!!!!!
    * The owner, Erick. a reason to hang out. chill dude. funny as hell. super nice. i'd work for him. lol
    * the iced coffee. Erick recommended the drink with 'simple syrup' YUMMMY (i had it with soy)
    * the cream cheese scone - mmmm :) now that was mmmm, yeah (insert smile :)* DROOL)
    * Outdoor patio. cute. quaint. peaceful. lots of shade (yay)
    * i thought the place reminded me of my mom's cupboard. in my surprise, it was the theme of the store (job well done)
    * open til 8pm!!! (fri 9pm)

    my dislikes:

    * i live 40 min away :(

i'm definitely returning. again. again. again. and again (til i'm crowned the dutchess pwahahaha)

*bookmark* fried chicken friday! checking it out with my banana ketchup in hand

**** OH OH OH!  you know how i said "we had an hour to kill" ... we ended up lining up 40 min late to the Yelp! event *teehee*

There are stores you need and stores you WANT. This is the latter. One filled with finery that shows a dedication to picking very quality items from a very limited list. SOME shoes but only the really classic keds. SOME candies but those licorice allsorts in reusable tins. Some mens legacy items but if they carry a flask, it's one from the only manufacturer with a lifetime warrant that makes them. It's a flask you'll pass to your son in a touching act of bad parenting.

The Broome Street General Store is the kind of retail that gets a bad rap for being too twee and Silverlake. And most of the time it is. Most of the time it's a place where it's 100 bucks for a not particularly nice vintage shirt and 9 bucks for a "small-batch" chocolate bar that tastes like feet.

    This isn't that place.

The lovely couple (and her brother) that run this place spent some obvious hours putting great thought and attention into every detail of the place. From what it sells to how it's displayed to what the best kinds of food they can realistically serve with that small of a kitchen area.

This is a winner and deserves your local support. Stop in. Wander the aisles and say hello. They're really friendly. And if nothing else, grab that small flask they sell for under 20 bucks. Looks like it'll take a bullet before it gives up your booze .

Hung out here one early summer morning a couple months ago.  I was happy to see that there were only 2 other people enjoying their coffee in the front patio area.  I thought, "Yes!  I can keep this place a secret for a while!"  Well, fast forward to tonight and I see that a lot of people have already discovered this hidden General Store.

I loved all the knick knacks that BSGS sells, but they aren't things I need so I would rather spend my dollars on their coffee.  It was a smallish cup, but did the job of satisfying my coffee craving.  I got my iced coffee with simple syrup and soy milk.  Pretty awesome stuff...will return when I have the time.

You can find plenty of street parking near Broome, some metered, some free.

Oh, how I want to love this place. It's cute and charming and so close to my house. But....it...just...isn't...very...good. First of all, the folks who work there (at least the guys who work there on weekday mornings) are inexplicably unfriendly. They don't smile, exchange pleasantaries, or acknowledge pretty JV mistakes such as forgetting to give you your order. It's like a little bit of bad NYC in Silver Lake. Second of all, the food and coffee are not only overpriced ($7 for a SMALL latte and cold croissant?) but served at ambient temperature (and I include the latte in that). For all the cooing and fussing over their fancy-pants espresso drinks, how about making them hot? Or even a little warm? No dice. With any luck, the owner will shape this place up. Because it is adorable. But it's just attitude-y and, well, strictly medicore...

As I was headed towards the freeway to go to an ever so dreaded family reunion, I stopped at Broome Street General Store.

Well wait! Before I go any further let me just state the fact that I have been a (hot) chai latte drinker for years. It's my go to drink and I've tasted many varieties from all over.

Anyway, back to my story... Naturally I ordered a hot chai latte at Broome St. The staff was very friendly and courteous, explaining that it would take a few minutes because it's not a mix but an actual tea bag they brew.

And once the finished product hit my tongue for the first time, I quickly realized it was THE BEST chai latte I have ever had.

I discovered Broome St. on Thursday morning this week. I had the Kenyan pour-over coffee and the bacon cheddar scone. The Kenyan coffee is amazing, though I wish they offered a smaller size, because it is incredibly rich and an entire cup was more than I could put away at one sitting (which is a pity at $5.50 a cup.) The scone is perfect; buttery and rich but not over the top.

I liked the place so much that I went back Saturday to pick up a couple of sandwiches that someone else had yelped about (see above. or below!) I got the chicken breast and the caprese. These were wonderful, too. The bread was amazing and they were just the right size. These came with my choice of spreads, packaged separately, to keep the bread from getting soggy. I chose a pesto and a balsamic. Both were wonderful.

The guys behind the counter at Broome St. are incredibly friendly and seem to be really excited and enthusiastic about their place. They were willing to humor me and answer all my questions with a smile, which is surely above and beyond the call of duty.

The patio outside is delightful and offers generous seating in shade and in the sun. There was a nice crowd both days I visited. It appears to be dog-friendly, too.

In addition to the really wonderful food, the items for sale in the store are worth a look and run the gambit from gourmet goodies to old-fashioned candy bars to spa products to kitchy toys and knick-knacks. I have my eye on some porcelain strawberry baskets!

Have officially fallen in love with this place.
Had been by many times before actually stopping, and wished I had stopped earlier.
It keeps getting better and better as they add more different supplies!  So it literally gets better!  Last time in they had a bunch of new Bamboo cutting boards and a whole collection of Lodge cookware.  There are herbs and rub mixes.  There is candy and sweets.  There are shoes!  And toys for the little ones.  They have everything.  And the sweets are by Valerie Confections.  Maybe the best stuff in town.

And that is not even including the food and drink.  Friday fried chicken day!?! Get the F&&k out!  And that is only the start.  I've had a couple of the sandwiches and have not had one I've not liked.  And they have. Great little patio out front to sit and relax.

The BIG draw???  The coffee drinks.  I am a coffee fanatic and will travel near and far for a good cup or better yet, a Proper espresso drink.  Anyone thinks they can make a good drink because they have a nice machine. No no no.  Mistake.  But here they Know how to do it!  And the highlight of highlights??? The iced coffee.  It is absolutely to die for. Even if your not an iced fan, try this one out.

Try them out. To eat. To drink. To shop.
    Over and out

What a great little cottage eatery!!! Feels a bit of NY brought out to the west. The general store has great little supplies of beauty products for men and women along with a few of home accents nestled in-between  vintage barber blades.

The cafe part has chips to ahoy about with a handful of different panini sandwiches such as the Chicken and pesto. The bread that they use is so light and fresh with amazing flavor. I was wowed by the bread... Omg!!

Can't wait to come back for the fried chicken that I was told is amazing.

    Great job people!!!

When you hear the term 'general store' - you're not really sure as to what to expect...however, Broome St. General Store is exactly what I thought a 'general store' would be. Nestled on Rowena Ave in Silver Lake - this aesthetically beautiful space carries all the things you need and a lot of what you want. From antiques to spices to the amazing coffee - it is definitely a place I would recommend for all to visit.

I was able to have an incredible Prosciutto sandwich by Heirloom as well as a delicious chicken salad. The service was impeccable and the look and feel of the place is unbelievably inviting.

Can't wait to venture back for an iced coffee and caramel salted croissant. YUM!

Charming little place. Friendly staff.  Great patio space outside, tho that's a bit sullied by the constant Rowena traffic.

Had a latte and a carrot cake muffin.  Both were top-notch. The carrot cake was certainly odd:  it had some sort of crust on top which really amounted to a cookie.  But it was great.

This visit is at noon on a Monday.  I'm the only soul here.  Surprising.

The General Store has added a bit more happiness to my mornings.  I am in love with everything about it-from the amazing coffee, to a fine assortment of pastries, and all of the goodies that make this place a real "general store."

Honestly, the real reason I come back is that they care and take pride in their business.  There's a lot of love that went into this place, and everytime I walk in, I'm greeted by happy owners who love what they do.

Browse the assortment of old time candy, kitchen supplies, food staples, shoes, garden supplies, and personal care products they have on their shelves, engage in friendly banter with Erik, Sophie, and Peter while they pull you a mean shot, then relax on the inviting shade-covered patio.  That's what I call a good morning.

I can get up, walk down the street, purchase a DELICIOUS cup of GIMME Coffee, sit outside, and pretend I live in North Brooklyn.  Thank god, because I was getting tired of crying myself to sleep over missing new york.  A little bit of BK brew and BK style to liven up a socal existence.

Have a deliciously smooth cup of Gimme. Try the bacon cheddar scone.  Try the hand pies.  Try the bread.  Buy yourself a knick knack.  Let all these things remind us that BK/Downtown Manhattan will forever be better than the "Williamsburg West" that we try to pawn off on this coast.

    Sigh.  YAY BROOME STREET.

I read the reviews on yelp and was a bit fooled. I ordered one higher priced coffees on the menu called the 'panama' and it tasted terrible. About comparable to folgers coffee. That was $4.50. I got a blueberry muffin which was another $3.50. Total $7.75 for a flat black coffee and a lousy muffin. They have these $10.00 sandwiches which are bought from a supplier and sold for double. C'mon this is not Urth cafe. The service was horrible too, I had to beg to order. The iPad tablet for payment was also cumbersome. No thanks, I'd rather go to Starbucks and skip the decor of this place. Btw there's no where to sit inside.

I love shops that combine a little bit of everything. Inspired by the charming street in Manhattan {and where I lived for a summer!}, Broome St. General Store in opened in Silver Lake recently and offers a mix of gourmet food, well-curated groceries, home decor, and vintage bits and bobs. It's beautiful, cozy, and feels like a modern update to the corner store where neighbors come by regularly to catch up. Still in their soft opening, edibles include sweets and pastries from Valerie and Cake Monkey. They've just added a slew of sandwiches and Fried Chicken Fridays with fried chicken by Cube (yum!), it's a new neighborhood spot I now frequent often!

This is a perfect place. I wanted one of everything! The cutest home accessories and gourmet items ever. I felt like I was in NY. The coffee is strong and incredible. The baked goods.... sublime. I love their version of an Oreo. The best! Iced coffee is strong and good... probably cold brewed, which I love. The owners are supercool and very sweet. Holy crap, what taste they have! It is an amazing little space... in a little bungalow behind a grouping of gorgeous olive trees. It doesn't get better than this in LA.

I visited Broome Street General Store for the first time yesterday. It is absolutely gorgeous. The outside seating area is tranquil; the building is beautiful and simple; the coffee is excellent; and the rest of the wares range from sophisticated to sweetly nostalgic. But the real kicker was the staff: the two guys behind the counter were so down-to-earth and attitude-free that I briefly questioned whether or not I was still in LA. [No hate mail, please: I'm a native and love my city, but come on. We do pretentious quite well.] I really, really want this place to be successful; one of the friends I met there told me that the space has held 4 businesses in the last 6 years. Go Broome Street!!

I was covered from head to toe in fur and honey after a long night partying in WeHo. I stopped into my favorite post-party retreat of Broome St cause I needed a toothbrush, a pair of suspenders, a dirty mag and a smooth double shot latte to calm my hangover. To my surprise I was greeted with smiles and they even had the honey/fur remover I dearly needed. I left feeling less sticky and less like a feathered bird and more like I was ready for another night dancing with the shortys @ the club.

How great is to walk into a store with an eclectic mix of sundries. Food products. Skin products.Gifts.Candy. Plus great homemade sandwiches made on incredible Italian Rustica bread.Sweet and savory pastries. The coffee selection is wide ranged and delicious! Friendly service and peaceful vibe outside to relax and enjoy the experience. I am from Manhattan and the name brings back memories of Soho NY.

I stepped into Broome St. General Store this past Sunday afternoon and had the best experience! The aesthetic of the store, inside and out is spot on, so perfectly calculated for a most pleasant time. I was instantly drawn to the amazing kitchen accessories and especially in awe of the gorgeous selection of products available. I sampled a mouth watering caramel croissant and drooled over the rest of the pastries. After long debate, I purchased 2 old fashion styled milk bottles and I went with an Iced Coffee, which was DELICIOUS. I enjoyed my coffee with friends in the lovely courtyard in front of the store.

The owners and staff are incredibly sweet & accommodating. I can't wait to go back with my laptop and enjoy some more awesome coffee, company & wifi :)

As a native New Yorker, I feel absolutely qualified to say that if there was a store as great as Broome St. General on the original Broome St., I'd move back!

The store offers: great vibes, caring service, and an incredibly thoughtfully curated collection of food, clothing, kitchenwares, cosmetics, toys, and more. Broome St. shopped the world so we don't have to! And the COFFEE DRINKS...50 stars!
